Free video game imbedded in Final Cut Pro 5

The game is called "Guess the appropriatre video/audio settings for you video files" and I'm losing every time.
Panasonic GS-500 camera, standard 16:9 DV PAL video/16-bit 44.1KHz audio. Can ANYONE provide the FCP audio/video, capture and sequence settings for GS-500 16:9 footage?
Importing direct from tape, video is OK (although I have to hit play on the camera itself to get FCP to import, rewind and play etc can be controlled from FCP), but I get a message saying the audio is a different format to what's on the tape. Video imported from files (previously imported in iMovie) are OK, but the audio requires rendering! It's all very frustrating, given iMovie just works it's sh*t out on the fly and you can get on with it.
If you are a successful GS-500+FCP user, I would REALLY appreciate some feedback - screen shots (or otherwise) of your settings would be ideal, so I can have a win!
Thanks

This is a question of knowing how to operate your camera, not figuring out how FCP works. Although reading the manuals for FCP will end the other frustration. If you are set up to capture for 48k and your audio is 41k, you will receive an error. Once you understand how things work, and it's not easy, you will be appreciate this warning system.
The specs say 16-bit 48KHz sound, but I did use a Rode videomic for this footage which might have resulted in the weird sample rate...Whatever I do I can't seem to get FCP to like the audio of any of my clips, with either Rode or built-in mic (as I said video seems to be OK)... < </div>
Never heard of that thing but the mic should not have had nothing to do with it. The mic can't automatically tell the camera to change recording settings, can it? That would cool, come to think of it. No, I'd say you had to make a deliberate change to the audio sampling settings on your camcorder. Time to get out the manual and determine either how you did that or if the mic is capable.
In FCP you can easily create a sequence setting that will use 41k audio natively without processing. Open the FCP help system or the manuals and look for how to create a custom sequence setting. This is generally not recommended because you can't do anything with the 41k audio except use it for other 41k apps or 41k delivery and there aren't many. You would need to transcode the audio to 48k to give it to anyone else or to hand it off to another conventional application.

  • How do you get more free effects to use in Final Cut pro x?

I am looking for a safe free place to download more effects that I can use on my videos in Final cut pro x that include effects that aren't just limited to the colors of the video. I also hope that the place will have clear instructions on how to download them onto final cut pro x. If you know of a place like this let me know, thank you!

fcp.co is my go to place for transitions and effects. Most are between $20 and $50 and because they have many effect in each are well worth the money spent. My favorites are Pixel Studios and Lucas, both purchased through FX Factory. Look at the examples and demo videos before you buy.
    Good luck!

  • Video walkthrough online for Final Cut Pro X when approaching it from a Never Been Used Before scenario?

    Hi there
I've used iMovie a few times and been quiet successful with it, but I was thinking of getting Final Cut Pro X as I want to do some more advanced video editing now (I really dont know the terms for what I want to be able to do are, but things like be able to stack say 10 different camera angles up on top of each other and decide which part of each one I want to use).
My problem is that I cant find many videos online (youtube etc) if I were to approach it as if I've never used it before.
Most of them go on about how things have changed from one version to the next and whats new in this edition.
I dont want WHATS NEW though, I want WHAT IT CAN DO.
So some kind of walkthrough (It can be an 90 minutewalk plus through for all I care) that shows off most of the things you can do with it.
    Any suggestions of ACTUAL links?
    Thanks in advance.

What you described isn't really multi-cam editing.
I think FCP X is idea for what you want because you can AUDITION as many clips as you want then you simply select this or that angle and play it through in the timeline - it's a fabulous feature in FCP X.
I strongly recommend you watch some good (PROPER) tutorials on FCP X.
I've tried a number of FCP X Tutorials and in my experience, Ripple Trainingis clearly the best.
There is a small fee, but it's more than worth it.
I just read your follow-up post.

  • Why don't these videos show up in Final Cut Pro X?

Okay so I am very new to my iMac and to using final cut pro for editing. I have been using Premiere Pro for a while so im not new to this type of software. However i cannot work out why Final Cut Pro won't show me the video to these clips. It plays the clip fine and the Audio works so i can hear it playing, Just nothing gets displayed on the icon, or in the preview screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!!

Your screen shot didn't load. Not sure what you were trying to show but you need to give the exact specs of the media as they appear in the movie inspector of the QuickTime player.

  • How to access videos from iPhoto in Final Cut Pro X

    Hi,
is it possible to access all the videos stored in iPhoto directly from Final Cut Pro X, compareable to iMovie?
    Any idea?
    Thanks for any help.
    rob

iPhoto and Aperture videos don't show up in the Photos browser in FCP X. Apple's directions (can't recall where I saw them) state to open both programs (FCP X and iPhoto) next to each other and then drag and drop the videos from iPhoto (or Aperture) to an event in FCP X.
Not how you'd hope it worked, but it works nontheless.

  • MP4 video looks blurry in Final Cut pro

So im recording screen captures from Jing Pro into final cut pro and when i view the captures NOT in fcp they look fine but when I view them in FCP and when i export them from FCP, the quality looks terrible, even when I put it at the highest possible quality (1280x1080).
    any fixes?
    please help

Open up Compressor, add your video, in the presets type in ProRes, it should narrow it down. Choose the prores LT preset, make sure in the audio that it is enabled and set to Linear PCM 48K...
Submit, and the resulting video should now look appropriate in FCP.
In FCP, add your video to a clean timeline, FCP should ask if you want to change your sequence setting to match, click YES.

  • Converting Nokia N95 video for editing in Final Cut Pro?

I have some .mpeg4 videos shot with a Nokia N95 mobile phone that I want to edit in Final Cut Pro.
I read everywhere that .mpeg4 is not an "editing format".
I want to use Quicktime Pro (or Mpeg Streamclip) to convert the footage to something I can use in FCP *without degrading the original quality* but I am completely lost as to what settings I should use.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have done some test conversions but a side by side comparison in Quicktime of the original and converted footage showed the latter to be softer, less contrasty and with different colours. Not at all what I wanted.
I've posted this question on th eFCP and iMovie forums but haven't had any definitive replies. Is this really so complicated?
    Thanks in advance!

I've been using iMovie 09 with these files but because the image quality is pretty poor I need the image correction functions of FCP. I can import the .mpeg4 files to FCP OK and work with them but I seem to spend all my time rendering. This is why I began to wonder if my initial file format and sequence settings were what they should be (and I am completely lost here).
The edited film will be uploaded to blip.tv and then embedded in websites. My concern is not to degrade the quality during my workflow.

  • Best Video format for Aperture, Final Cut Pro, iPad, and iPhones

I am moving all of my photos and video into Aperture and notice that only .MOV video form my iPhone 4 and .MP4 video from my go pro camera are displayed in Aperture browser mode. The .MPG files form my old Sony Powershot do not show up in the browser or in "Video" searches. I also have a set of very large (13GB)  .AVI video files that I cannot import into Final Cut Pro.
    My first question is:
If I want all of my videos to be completely compatible with all of my Apple products, should I convert everthing to .MOV format, and if so; whcih converter should I use?
    My second question is:
My ten big (13gb) sets of vacation video are still on mini DV cassettes. I have already imported them into a PC as .AVI files. What should I convert them to, in order to edit them in Final Cut Pro; or should I import them again directly into Final Cut Pro? If so, which format is best?
    Thank you for your advice,

    "Is this even possible?."
    No.
First, you don't need any additional software.
Second, every time video is processed it will change in some way. It will never be exactly the same as the original. It may in fact look better. However, you are not dealing with a top of the line camera. There are many compromises in it to make it affordable. These compromises in lens, chip size and quality and so on will be exacerbated as the media is processed. If the shooting conditions are not optimal, light, camera support, content, format, all of these will make reproducing the exact original more difficult and more improbable. That said AVCHD is inherently an excellent format and you should get excellent results. There is a great deal you can do in color correction and effects to improve the image and make it even more pleasing than the original, but this requires work and is not sonething achieved by clicking a button. It is also not something achieved by simply plugging in the camera and running the software. That is not how to get the best out of it. It's complex, professional software that's going to take time to learn, and video production is a complex process that takes time and effort to do really well.
My opinion which is worth what you paid for it.

  • Export videos with metadata to Final Cut Pro?

I would like to use Aperture 3 for reviewing video footage from my SLR and adding notes, ratings, etc. Has anyone come up with a way to get this metadata exported from Aperture and imported into Final Cut Pro? I can export a simple tab-delimited file from Aperture, but is there a way to get that in a form where it can become a bin in Final Cut Pro. (I think Batch List import in FCP will only work for capturing stuff from tape -- my clips already exist on the hard drive.)

Do you want to reedit them or do you just want to work with material generated in imovie. Not sure about the first, but for the second, export a quicktime movie. IMovie works with DVstreams which can cause problems in fcp.

  • Exporting Video from Avid to Final Cut Pro

I saved video clips from Avid Adrenaline as .mov files and burned to disc. When I try to open disc, I have audio but no video. This may be a Quick Time issue, but I am out of time. Does anyone know an easy way for me to get the video out of Avid into my system?

additionally, you might want to export some sample color bars along with your media. I have found there is a rather drastic color shift, that took two CC filters to correct for, when following this workflow.

  • Final Cut Pro - Two Video Cards - Display Turns White

    MacPro Xeon 2.0GHz
    3 Gig Ram
    Two nVidia 7300 Video Cards
Two CRT Monitors and One HDTV
I have two CRT monitors attached to my original nVidia card. I recently installed a second video card and attached a third monitor to my DVI output (on the second video card)
I tell Final Cut Pro to display video on third monitor as full screen output. I can see my 720p (or 480p) display. When I press play, the entire screen turns White. (I've tried a CRT monitor, and my LCD HDTV via HDMI to DVI).
If I remove my Right CRT monitor from my graphics card and attach my HDTV (giving me one monitor and one HDTV) I can get full screen 720p play back. But I don't want to edit with one monitor! I am wanting to have my two monitor editing setup with the third monitor as my full screen display (720p).
Why does three monitors result in a white frame for playback? Do I need to configure something?

    @daguerratype
The Spatial Conform is one of the things I tried. Unfortunately none of its settings fixed the aspect ratio. When I choose "Fit", it simply shows it as 4:3 and leaves left and right black borders on a 16:9 timeline. When I choose "Fill", it zooms the 4:3 video and chops off the top and bottom parts.
    @Thomas Emmerich
This is a decent workaround. Fortunately my clips are named in such a way that I can easily drop them all in the timeline and do a Command-F (Find) to search by clip name, highlight all of them in the search results, then use the Inspector to modify the properties of all the clips at once. I have to change X-scale to 133% and Spatial Conform to "Fit", and now at least it fits the 16:9 timeline properly.
Thanks to both replies. I still hope Apple adds a way to fix the clip in the Event browser so that I don't have to do this workaround.
