I am working on a website for a technology scholarship I am applying for. I need to upload my iWeb site, so I am going to use Cyberduck. I need a web host that is ad free (it is a requirement of the scholarship) and offers free FTP uploading (so I can upload using Cyberduck). Thanks for your help!

Who is your ISP? Normally ISP's offer their subscribers a certain (smallish) amount of free ftp accessible web space. That would probably be your best bet, because others are unlikely to meet your criteria.
Or perhaps a school you have a relationship with.

Leopard (10.5) is not available as a download or as a disk purchase from Apple. You may find copies on e-bay for sale.
If your iMac can accept Snow Leopard (10.6), a disk can be purchased from the Apple online store.

I recently discovered the existence of Business Catalyst and I read that this solution was passing by and dedicated hosting provided by Adobe (MyDomainName / businesscatalyst.com). I wanted to know if it is possible to work with this solution on specific servers (shared or dedicated)?
In fact, is it possible to design and manage BC sites hosted on their own space hérgement (mydomainname.com)?

I understand you can not host a website made with BC on a server other than Adobe. I think it is a weakness because customers like to know exactly where their site is located. In addition, Adobe is not really recognized in France as host ... not to mention SEO (French website + hoster French = best SEO). It's a pity because I think BC really promising ... However, I will like you've shown me look at the different documentation.

Iweb with Lion: Umlaute after ftp-upload on linux-Server are not correct - but worked with Leopard!

Hi from Germany. I used iweb 3.04 and OS X 10.6+ and everything worked fine on different websites, including German Umlaute ä, ö, ü, ß.
After upgrading to Lion all Umlaute are not correct spelled (strange letters) after ftp-upload on a linux-server (which is the same as before). Before upload these Umlaute are spelled correctly, but not after upload.
Trials were a) upload htaccess file b) use older iWeb 3.03 c) asking server administrator (answer: "use ae, oe, ue instead"), but nothing worked.
Any ideas or help?

The problem lies in the uploading of the files or the server itself. If the umlautes looked good on the server before then we have to think it's the uploading process. Try using the free FTP client Cyberduck to upload your site folder to your server. Then check to see if the rendering is correct.
What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?

The title basically says it all. I want to make a website. back in the day i use to use GeoCities but i dint really like and i still dont like it. I just want to publish my iWeb materials not using .Mac.

You might find that your ISP offers you a bit of web hosting as part of your package...
As for free, I have looked around and tried a couple, but decided that there is no such thing as a free lunch! I use .Mac!

Index problems with iweb 09 and ftp uploads

Hi,
after several issues with the site i eventually re-built and published with iweb 09's built in ftp.
The problem i have is that the published site goes in a folder called Site on my server but the index page that redirects to the welcome.html file doesn't direct it to inside the site folder. This means when i navigate to the site it comes up as welcome.html not found on this server.
I've resorted to filezilla again as when i publish to a local folder and upload it works ok.
I still want to resolve this as the iweb ftp will publish just the canges so is loads quicker.
I imagine the only way to resolve this is to change the settings in the iweb site settings page.
does anyone know if i need to tell iweb a different path other than the server url.
EG; my url is www.thepaddyproject.co.uk
iweb put the site on the server ok (www.thepaddyproject.co.uk/Site
the index page needs to redirect to www.thepaddyproject.co.uk/Site/Welcome.html
any help appreciated

Better chance with html transfer or ftp upload?

Back to the same old freeze/stalling when trying to upload (anywhere from 40% to 80% complete). Made changes to six pages (not master pg) and Muse wanting to export entire site - which I try to avoid anymore because of locking up during transfer. Broke site into micro sites, optimized images, now what? HELP?

It is "passive", I've checked that box.
Also, I don't know if it makes any difference but I still
can't see any of my pages on the web site. I'v e contacted the
server folks and asked them to expain why. All the files are
visible in my remote window, and he says his FTP is working and
that he can see some files, but right now it is their standard
placeholder that comes up and not my index page.

Upgrading one of the free websites to upgrade, but only paying the difference

Hi there, my question is in relation to my adobe creative cloud subscription allowance for 5 free websites hosted as web basics, under my creative cloud subscription rate, these web basics sites are normally $7.77AUS/month. I would like to utilize one of the five free sites, but then upgrade to web basics + as i need email accounts with it. My question is, when I upgrade a free hosted site to a paid plan. Will the site hosting charge be only the difference between a webbasics hosted site ($7.77AUS/month) and the web basics + ($16.10AUS/month)? so I would only pay $8.33AUS/month for my website. Or do I pay full price?
If I pay full price, why? Can i not use one of my free websites as part of this payment? So I'd have 4 free sites left, and one web basics + hosted site, that I'm only paying $8.33 instead of $16.10 because I decided to use my free webbasics hosting for this.

How many websites hosted?

There doesn't seem to be a clear explanation of this anywhere, so here is my question:
I am a Creative Cloud member, so my understanding is that I have 5 free websites hosted in the BC basics. If I upgrade BC to say, webCommerce, how many websites will be working within that WebCommerce platform? If I want to add more websites, how do I do that?
Please don't link me to the webpage advertising this stuff, as I have already looked high and low to no avail, unless you can link me to somewhere that answers my specific question.

Let's take a step back. Each site plan is on a per site basis.
You have five free basic sites with creative cloud membership. If you upgrade a site to the webCommerce package you would pay the standard rate of $38.88 per month (US Pricing) for one website. Want a second website on the webCommerce package? Then you would pay another $S38.88 for that site and so on. If you upgrade a Creative Cloud site to a paid site that site will then again become available for another free site.

You can use their BC login details and use them , which on publish the site will be under their account.
Please change the BC login from Edit > Preferences > Publish > Switch Accounts , for Mac it would Adobe Muse > Preferences

Possibly because dropbox is not really a proper webhost - it might be better if you went and signed up for proper web hosting from somewhere like http://www.godaddy.com or http://www.hostexcellence.com.
Have you told Google that you site exists? If not, then you need to do so - http://www.google.com/addurl.

SItes with free midlet hosting.

Does anyone know of any sites that have free midlet hosting (allowing them to be downloaded to your phone) other than www.midlethosting.co.uk which is very basic.
Does Sun have something like this to help developers? (are you listening, Sun?)

You could try www.getjar.com. I've found their site to be really good. If you register your midlet with them then you could provide a link to your applet within thier repository - they provide a direct download capability.

How do you publish a website to the free Cloud hosting?

Adobe Cloud states that you can have up to 5 websites hosted on the Cloud. when you search for info on this it says it is on the right panel on the Cloud. When you click on the learn more it tells you nothing more. Is this feature not available yet?

You'll be hosting your website through Adobe Business Catalyst, which is an online hosting platform. You can publish your website directly from either Muse or Dreamweaver, and then manage and push it live from the online Business Catalyst Platform. However, to host a live site, you'll need to purchase your own domain name.
