Freehand access in Illustrator 6

I am in a production environment and have YEARS of Freehand files that need to be accessed. I just read that Illustrator 6 will no longer open old Freehand files. If that is true, I will have to stick with Illustrator 5 because it is imperative that I be able to access those files as customers request. Please help us out with this problem. I would like to upgrade...but can't if no Freehand access. Thank you!

As i can see from your records, you have purchased Single app subscription for Photoshop CC and not for Illustrator CC.
So, that's the reason your Illustrator CC still shows as trial.
In case you need to use Illustrator CC only, I would recommend you to contact our Chat support http://adobe.ly/yxj0t6 and ask them to cancel your Photoshop CC subscription and place a new order for Illustrator CC.

Easy access to Illustrator, and others

It ought to be possible to access the Illustrator General Discussion forum from the main forum page just like other main applications, rather than having to scroll through a dropdown list after wasting time looking for it elsewhere, such as Design forums. Complaints are being made by users, after they have finally found their way (back) to it.
There may be other product forums deserving the same prominence. GoLive could be one of them.

Holy hell, widgets are the bees knees and whatnot!
I just built a couple of "Recent Activity"-based widgets and they make it about 10x easier to follow a forum than any of the other methods I've tried so far.
Drag down a Recent Activty widget.
Rename it whatever your Activity will be for (eg, InDesign Recent).
Change the pop-up menu to whatever forum you're going to track and the amount of entries to whatever you want.
Now you can see who replied and when to all conversations. Clicking each entry takes you directly there so you can get closer to your last reading too.
I also tore the whole layout down. I'm in 3-column view with Private msgs and all forums in the left column, Recent InDesign in the middle and Recent Forum Comments in the far right.

These are my findings:
Access through CC goes no further back than CS6, and there seems to be no plan to change that.
This means that it is necessary to have or acquire a licence to get access to an older version.
Adobe has started setting up a set of pages for downloading older versions (requiring a licence) here, so far covering CS6 and CS5.5:

No HTTP access through Illustrator?

So is there no way to access HTTP through Illustrator scripting? I've tried the one trick I found searching the forums of copying over webaccesslib.dll/netio.dll/coretypes.dll from Bridge but can't get it to work (I just get an 'Error 53: I/O error' when I try to load webaccesslib with the ExternalObject) and according to the Javascript toolkit docs Illustrator doesn't support the Socket object so I can't even write it myself.
I need to make a request to a URL to pull in some custom information but so far am at a loss as to how else to do this.

Text along path from freehand to illustrator problem

Does anyone know a workaround for text along path conversion from freehand to illustrator?
The problem is text along path in freehand which is slightly moved along path.
The result after conversion to illustrator is an invissible (exept a red+ where the text should be)text. Sometimes you can't even correct the problemtext so you had to place hundreds/thousends of text (streetmaps) again after conversion.
Exporting the Freehand file as illustrator 7 gives a much better result for the text part. (the art works is in this case seperated into lines and fills)
The message I get opening the illustrator file in CS3 is that legacy text should be updated, clicking the update button and text is looking way better and there is less text to replace.
Opening the Feehand file in CS3 doesn't give me this method... I'd like to...

Sorry but the text doesn't contain empty spaces, it's text missing.
The problem to be solved is conversion from Freehand to illustrator text along path which is justified (moved the slider in freehand to adjust the text placed along a path) is after conversion misplaced along the path and text is missing. In some case the text isn't adjustable because I can't crab a handle etc. The only solution is to place the text again. Any solutions?

different than Illustrator. Adobe hasn't put any of FreeHands gems
into Illustrator. So, what's the plan Adobe? When will we see
Illustrator benefit from Adobe's acquisition of FreeHand? Never?

My free trail of Illustrator expired. I subscribed to a membership and recieved confirmation of my order.
How do I now access Illustrator. When I click on the icon, it offers me a free trial but no other way to download the software.

Search for files by ACCESSED dates?

I work in an art department that has a server full of advertisements, thousands of files, which are Illustrator and Photoshop files, TIFF and EPS files, and Freehand files. There hasn't been a good archive system in place here for years, so there's many needless files on the server that need to be archived.
What I'm looking for is a way to search the ads folder on our server for files that haven't been accessed since a specified date (like two years). I don't mean last modified or created date, but accessed, because an ad in Illustrator may have a linked TIFF in it that was created or modified 5 years ago, but is still in use and accessed by Illustrator for ads currently running. I want to be able to archive the items that haven't been touched in a couple years without accidentally breaking links or having to do it manually through thousands of files.
Is there no way in the Finder to do this?

I don't have that many old files to play with it, but you can use the Finder's "Find…" to do a raw query of Spotlight's metadata. In the search terms, add a *Raw Query* type with something like *kMDItemLastUsedDate < $time.this_year(-2)* - this example will search for items with a last used date less than year 2005. The time and query syntax is explained a bit in [this developer document|http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Conceptual/SpotlightQu ery/Concepts/QueryFormat.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40001849-CJBEJBHH].

How can I fit 75 pages into Illustrator?

I'm working on a rulebook for a boardgame. Each page has vector art and text blocks intermixed to explain the rule mechanics. It now exists as 75 individual Illustrator files that need to be combined into a single PDF document.
Obstacle 1: Illustrator doesn't have enough space for 75 artboards
Obstacle 2: Using copy-paste to put each into InDesign doesn't work: Each line of text becomes an individual text block (and therefore uneditable).
Obstacle 3: Using the Place function to put each .ai file into InDesign loads each page as a uneditable picture. I'd have to open each individual page in Illustrator to make a change.
Background: The rulebook was created in a ten-year-old version of Macromedia Freehand, which will not work on my new iMac. Converting it to illustrator resulted in 75 individual .ai files
Is there a way to allow more space in Illustrator to hold more artboards? Can two exported .pdf files be merged together (so the rulebook could be done with two or more .ai files)?

As a longtime FreeHand user, I can offer my 2¢.
I am able to import a multi-page FreeHand MX into Illustrator CC if I first convert the file to PDF. Then using the script: "AI Open MultiPage PDF" http://aiscripts.com/ai-scripts/openmultipagepdf/ I can import the full FreeHand PDF file and it will show up page-by-page. It takes a few minutes to do and does a decent job but ...
Beware the text format limitations between the two programs! FreeHand's block text converts to line text in AI.
The conversion does keep the vector objects editable and fills intact.

Help! How do I upgrade my Photography CC plan to the discounted Complete CC plan? I would like to use Adobe Illustrator, now!

At the end of my trial for Illustrator, I am given this:
So I click that open to the plans page in my browser. Click on the Complete CC discount plan. It loads my account data and spits out this:
So, I click on "See your plan details" and it takes me to my plan area of my CC account. I click on "Manage plan," and then get this:
That's all well and good, but I'm hoping to pay it by month (as I do with the photography plan), since I am but a wee freelancer just starting out...
So, I click on "Upgrade plan," which stops me on the next page due to the information given at the top and then the bottom.

Yeah. Well, I am not ready for such a huge hit to my bank account, and when I run the calculations, it comes down to the $49.99/mo plan (not the discounted plan), anyway. It also doesn't give me the option to ONLY purchase Illustrator to add onto the photography plan, which is generally what I am wanting, anyway.
So, my question is, if I don't qualify for the discount, then why is it being shown on my trial expiration? Since I am a current CC customer, it seems to me that I should qualify, though. And barring that, if I don't qualify, is there any way to purchase access to Illustrator via the Photography plan without paying $50/month?
I suppose if the $50 one is the only route open to me, I will just have to wait until I've gotten enough work to qualify the expenditure, but it would be wonderful to get the $30 discounted one. And yes, right now, $20 is enough of a gap to hit my budget, especially when it adds up month after month.
