Freehand MX activation woe's

I have Freehand MX from the Studio MX2004 suite I bought a
few years back. Since then I've upgraded to Studio 8, and now again
to CS 3 (which is awesome).
I don't normally use freehand, and I used to use it on my PC,
but I've moved across to Mac (Studio 8 and MX2004 worked on both).
Now I can install the Freehand software, but when I try activate it
with the serial number I get told "Too Many Activations", and a
number to call at Macromedia. This number goes through to an Adobe
automated system, but there seems to be no way to talk to a human
about this problem?
Very frustrated, especially since I have paid for this
software and I should be allowed to use it.

That's exactly my point. You do own the software. At this
point, you should
be able to do whatever is easiest to get the damn thing to
run. I had this
very problem the other day. I had FH installed on my own
(non-working)
powerbook and wanted to finally get it on my new MacBook.
Couldn't find the
serial number anywhere, and had no ambition to figure out how
to get the old
PowerBook up and running again. So, I did what was easiest. I
paid for the
damn thing. ;o)
Software activation is one of the more idiotic things
corporate software
companies have done. Yea, let's do nothing to actually
prevent copying of
software...the thing we want to prevent...and instead let's
just make this a
realy pain in the *** for our honest, paying customers.
Brilliant!

  • Freehand 11.02 No Longer Opening Leopard 10.5.8

Hi,  I am hoping you can help me.  I am running Leopard 10.5.8 and in the last few days Freehand 11.02 is refusing to launch.  The icon keeps bouncing in The Dock.  I downloaded the Adobe Fix although I do not think that it is applicable.  I have repaired permissions, reinstalled Freehand, deleted preferences.  I have researched extensively online to no avail..  Any further ideas?  It is such a wonderful programme.  Thank you

Hi, did you recently upgrade to 10.5.8?
If so, this problem has happened off and on to folks over the last year or two after an upgrade. There are two threads here that deal with the problem but I'll make it easy by also quoting the author's quick answer:
Solution #1 OSX 10.5.7 and Freehand
I found a solution that works.
    After
starting Freehand start Activity Monitor and find the process
AuthenticationS (or something like that). You'll find it by sorting by
CPU activity. It'll be the process using the most CPU. If I force quit
it Freehand starts without a problem for me and will keep starting up
without a problem until I reboot.
    For some reason
Freehand will wait for a response to whatever it is that
AuthenticationS wants until hell freezes over. But since there is no
visible panel to respond to force quitting seems the only solution I've
found. Lucky it works at least for me.
    Hope this helps.

    Solution #2 Problems with Leopard 10.5.3 ?
This is on an Intel iMac.
OK! I installed everything new, Leopard 10.5, then the 10.5.3
combo update and finally Freehand with the 11.02 build 92 update
    and IT IS WORKING!
Later I carefully installed all my things in Library and the
moste important Apps and did a check of Freehand running after each
    app I installed.
So I dont know what the problem was, but its definitely
    running now in 10.5.3.
    Thank you all!
    thumahawk
I suggest reading the entire threads linked above as the first solution seems temporary with the second one being permanent but a hassle to reinstall Leopard. As for myself, FreeHand runs just fine on my 10.5.8  Intel MacPro Quad but I had a fresh install of Leopard with update before installing FreeHand MX.
Let us know if you get it to work.

  • Adobe actively killing off Freehand with Flash CS5

    Hi,
We have just upgraded to Flash CS5, wanted CS4 and were told there is now CS5 and it will be that.
We come to open our Freehand maps from our vast database of such and CS5 wont open them. Flash 8 would.
CS5 we are told has dropped support for Freehand. This brings the new map work of a Government body in Flash to a halt.
Freehand is the tool for maps, superior to Illustrator. I have tried out Illustrator and hate it, other Cartographers also stick with Freehand. Its about time Adobe stopped shunning that side of the graphics industry. We have a job to do.
If Adobe host Freehand they should ensure two vector apps work together. No reason why suddenly Flash will not work with the vector file, somebody has simply tweaked it to deny Freehand users the ability to use Flash anymore.
As I type I now learn that Adobe have dropped selling Freehand,  long rude word !!!!!!!!!!!!
How dare they deny cartographers a better tool. We have tried to convert maps in the past, the clipping paths are one aspect that fall over. Line caps another. There is no time to both do a job and mess around battling with Illustrator, no money to employ a second person to be tasked with this. Gov't helped the banks out and now find the money by cutting down on us !
Does anyone know how to work with Freehand and Flash, CS3 I gather will open fh9 files (I still use FH9 as I prefer its interface 3 doesnt look like an 8 etc, data entry windows a decent size. )
    Will CS4 open fh9, ...will it open .fh11 ?
    Envirographics

Sad to hear that. I just began working with CS4 and found that copy paste from FreeHand to Flash CS4 works fine. Hope I never need to badgrade to CS5.

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

  • FreeHand Support Page Still Active

As many of you are probably aware, there are some problems
with the page now. Don't worry...I do have a backup, but I only
have the backup up to May 23. If any of you are able to rescue
comments from the 24th on (maybe it's still in someone's cache?), I
don't know if that's possible but it was worth it to ask!
There is something wrong with the host I am using for the
page. I can't even log on. They are not there today but they will
fix whatever is wrong with the server sometime tomorrow, hopefully.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but it will be back online tomorrow. I
did put a page up (it let me somehow copy a file over) explaining
    the situation.

  • FreeHand installation - New activation procedures

Take note that are new activation procedures for Macromedia software installation.
“When trying to activate your Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, or Macromedia products you may receive an error that the Activation server is unavailable.  As of December 15th [2012] the activation servers for these products will be shut down.”

    Thanks for your fast answer.
I have not been able to run once the program. I installed it and when I lauched it I get a message saying that the Key Code is missing or has expirated (altough I just installed it!). Then I input the one I got in the installation pack and it says it is invalid.
I followed your instructions, but in the register there is no folder "Xcelsius".
On the contrary, I have seen that although I desinstalled the version Crystal Xcelsius Professional, I still have a folder with in the register (Suite 11.5 --> Crystal Xcelsius Professional) with the serial code from the previous version. And I also have a folder in c:\Program files\Business Objects... is this ok? Could it be the reason for the problems? Isnt't it removed when desinstalling Crystal Xcelsius Professional? Should I remove it manually?
Another thing: I already downloaded from your site the SP 1: cx2008_sp1
When running the Setup first it desinstalled Xcelsius Engage and then it installed the SP1, is this also ok? Seems a bit strange...
    Thanks for your help!

  • Old version of FreeHand 5

I had a working version of FreeHand 5 on my XP machine, which I have used to do a great deal of work, mostly newsletters. It has a lot of features which seem to be missing in the MX versions. It stopped working when my backup disk failed. I need a new activation number. I called about it several months ago, but I couldn't find the actual disk. so they couldn't give me the code. Now, I have the disk, and the documentation files, but I cannot contact Adobe again by telephone.

  • Activation server shut down for Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, and Macromedia products

Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers.  While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers.
If your software is affected by the activation server shut down then you will receive an error that the Activation server is unavailable.  The specific affected products are as follows:
    Acrobat 7.0 - Windows
    After Effects 7.0
    Audition 3.0
    Captivate 1.0
    Contribute 2.0
    Contribute 3.0
    Creative Suite 2.0
    Director MX 2004
    Dreamweaver MX 2004
    Fireworks MX 2004
    Flash Paper 2.0
    Freehand MX
    GoLive CS2
    GoLive 9.0
    Illustrator CS2
    InCopy CS2
    InDesign CS2
    Macromedia Studo MX 2004
    Photoshop CS
    Photoshop CS2
    Photoshop Elements 4.0
    Photoshop Elements 5.0
    Premiere Pro 7.0
    Production Studio Premium
The activation server being shut down will not affect currently installed and activated Adobe software.  You will only face this difficulty if you need to reactivate the software.
To remedy this difficulty we have made available a version of these software titles that does not require activation for Users who have previously purchase the affected software.  For additional details and specific links to the software please see:
    Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2 products, Acrobat 7 - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.html

If the software title you have purchased is affected by the activation server being shut down, but is not available for download in the previously referenced pages, then please contact our support team at http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html.  Please be aware our support team will not be able to provide assistance for downloading or installing the Creative Suite 2 software.
    System requirements
Creative Suite 2 software was only designed to run in the following operating environments:
    Mac OS X v.10.2.8–v.10.3.8. PowerPC® G4 or G5 processor
    Microsoft® Windows® 2000/Windows XP. Intel® Pentium® III or 4 processor

    Still facing installation difficulties?
If you are experiencing an installation issue with the software currently available I would recommend creating a new thread in the Downloading, Installing, and Setting up forum - http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup.  If you can please make sure to include the following:
    •          What software are you trying to install?
    •          Which operating system are you using?
    •          Was the software previously installed prior to downloading the non-activating version currently available?
    •          What specific error messages are you receiving when trying to install?
Please also see the original discussion on this topic at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4919014#4919014.

    Hello Jeff.
EN version is not so eaqual in all with CZ version, I have PREMIUM one, not Standard.
So I download these EN versions and Acrobat 7Pro separately.
It look that it works, I have it installed on my presentation laptop. I ussualy work on PC and laptop is for bussines trips mostly.
When I was working on my PC I found in menu one interesting option. I have installed CS2 in 2010 so it works OK, still in CZ. What I found in menu is called "Licence Transfer".
I didnt try it because I dont want to loose my activation on PC, but could you please say to me what does this option means?
Is it possible to copy licence on flash disk and use it on laptop, but it still be in PC also? Or it is only for deactivation, so you will loose it, and after this you can do new activation (which is impossible by server shut down)?
And one question to the end, if I buy some later version like CS4 or CS5 (from some graphic studio which have one licence to sell-transfer) so do Adobe plan to shut down server too, for CS4, CS5 or after this non user/customer friendly solution (I mean for CS2) will Adobe do some application which we can install on our local PC and this app will say to CSxx "Your licence is OK, just continue in work" ?? --- this would be much better, I think if Adobe do this so it will be the same like no-activation versions in EN only but without so many complains and impacts on your customers.
    Thank you for reply me

  • Files made in OSX 10.4.11 crash FreeHand when opening in OSX 10.6.2

I changed computers last fall from one running OSX 10.4.11 to one running OSX 10.6.2 and with the help of this forum and someone at Apple, got FreeHand MX 11.0.2 to open and run without crashing.
Today I tried to open some old files created on the old computer/OS and the app crashes on launch or, after launching, when trying to open one of these older files.  Any thoughts?  Similar experiences?

Just answered my own question after poking some more:
    1. Select the file
    2. Get Info [ -I]
    3. Change "Open with:" drop down selection to FreeHand MX (if it already shows as the drop down selection, actively select it again).
    4. Close the window
    That's it!

  • How do I resize a vector illustration in Freehand

    Hi there,
I hope someone can help me. I downloaded a vector
illustration (that I paid for), into Freehand and I am struggling
to understand how I resize the illustration in Freehand to A5.
Can someone help me? I'm not a major user of the software and
I've managed to do other things with the illustration (like
re-colour), but for some reason I just dont understand the help
    when discussing how to resize.

Transforming include scaling in FreeHand so look it up in the
    help file (or manual)
To start with (copied from the help file).
    Transforming objects
You can transform objects or points by rotating, scaling,
skewing, reflecting, and moving them. You can make transformations
using the transformation tools, the Transform panel, or an object?s
    transform handles.
You can also apply transformations to objects as editable
effects. After a transform effect has been applied, it is always
live, so you can modify the scale and skew percentage, rotation
angle, and move distance at any time. For more information on
applying transformations as live effects, see Using a Transform
    effect attribute.
Note: Extruded objects are rotated differently than other
objects. For more information, see Extruding objects.
    Transforming objects freely
You can use transform handles to freely transform objects,
including text blocks, and to combine a series of transformations.
You can also use transform handles to transform an object within a
group or a paste inside, or to transform a point within a selected
    path.
If transform handles don?t appear when you double-click an
object, you can display them using FreeHand preferences.
Note: Extruded objects are rotated differently than other
objects. For more information, see Extruding objects.
    To display transform handles:
1 Display general preferences by doing one of the following:
In Windows, press Control+U, then click the General tab.
On the Macintosh, press Command+U, then click the General
    category.
2 Select Double-Click Enables Transform Handles, and click
    OK.
    To transform freely:
1 Using the Pointer tool, double-click the object you want to
    transform.
Eight transform handles appear around the selection, and a
circle appears at the selection?s center point. To disable the
transform handles, double-click away from the selection.
Moving the Pointer tool over and around the selection changes
the pointer (cursor) to indicate which transformation function is
    available.
2 Drag the handles to transform the selection, as follows:
To move the selection, position the pointer over the object
within the selection rectangle, and drag the object to a new
position. Do not drag the center point.
To set the center of rotation, drag the center point to a new
    location.
To rotate the selection, position the pointer just outside a
    transform handle and drag.
Shift-drag to rotate in 45° increments.
To scale the selection, position the pointer on a transform
    handle, and drag.
Shift-drag or drag a corner handle to resize proportionally.
To skew the selection, position the pointer on the dotted
outline between the transform handles and drag.
Shift-drag to constrain the skew horizontally or vertically.
3 To copy the selection as you transform it, click and hold a
handle, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Macintosh), and drag the
handle. A plus (+) sign next to the pointer indicates copying.
To transform an object within a group or inside a clipping
    path:
    1 Click the Pointer tool.
2 Double-click the group or clipping path to activate the
transform handles, and drag to transform it.
3 Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Macintosh) to subselect
the object you want to transform. The object?s transform handles
    will be activated.
4 Press Tilde (~) to superselect objects in the group or
clipping path without moving the center point.
To transform selected points within a path:
1 Double-click a point to activate transform handles for the
entire selection, and drag to transform it.
2 Press Tilde (~) to activate transform handles for the
entire path without moving the center point.

  • Freehand 9 Windows install problem

I have received from a client a couple of Freehand files (.FH9) that don't seem to be translating into Illustrator (I tried Illy 8 and Illy CS2) properly. I still have my Freehand 9 CD, so I thought I would try to re-install Freehand and save out the files in EPS format. I haven't used Freehand for a number of years.
But, when I try to install on any of my XP systems, nothing happens. I get the unpacking dialogs, but that's about it. 2 machines are running XP Pro 32 bit, and one XP Pro 64 bit. Same result on all of them. One one system, I got some more unpacking dialogs after about 5 minutres of no activity, but then, no more.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    TIA!

Usually the Next button does not highlight until the install
    program
recognizes the serial number as a valid formated number. It's
    most
likely they are missing a number, used lowercase letters
    instead of
uppercase, did not use dashes when required (or vice versa),
    or
    something else small but wrong.
MX does require product activation but if they are not online
    it should
give them the option to call a toll-free number.

  • Freehand 10 license

I'm finally getting around to updating, my equipment and
software. I currently use Freehand 10 and is licensed on the mac I
use now and a mac I have at home.
Question is I'll need to install it on my new sparkly 24"
imac arriving next week in order to use the Freehand MX updater
that'll be arriving at the same time. What do I need to do to get
it working, do I need to transfer the license to use it on my new
computer, and if so how do I do that?
    Any advice welcome...

All you need is your FH10 serial number, if that. FHMX is the
    only
version that has any kind of product activation, so there is
    nothing to
    transfer from FH10.
