Freehand MX reinstallation & updating

Hi,
I occasionally experience Freehand hanging, due to memory handling problems.
I'm considering to install Freehand MX to a new computer because of it's unique features!
Is it still possible to get support (ie. update) to 11.0.2 for original Freehand MX ie 11.0 version?

I'm new to this forum but have a very important issue that I desperately need help with. I had to do an archive install recently as my machine wasn't opening any programs as a result of a crash during a software update. The computer has since been in many ways better and faster than before, all except a font issue with freehand mx (11.0.2). The problem is this: whenever I open a document it tells me that several of the fonts are not installed. I use 'font book' as a type manager and all the fonts are active within the program. Illustrator and Photoshop have no problem reading the same fonts that Freehand tells me are not installed. I've tried reloading Freehand a few times and reloading the fonts too. I downloaded the freehand update which didn't help either. I have quite a few fonts active but for some reason it tells me that about 30 or so are not installed which they obviously are. This is the first time I've ever had an issue like this with freehand having used this version and it's predecessors for a number of years. I run leopard 10.5.8 on my machine. I use illustrator and freehand a lot however most of my work is still in freehand so this potentially posses a very large problem.
Please can anyone offer me some light on this matter.

Unfortunately freehand itself is telling me several fonts, some new ones but even very straight forward ones like verdana, Trebuchet ms, windings etc. aren't installed. If I open about 70% of previous work it says the same thing. This also happens if it's a new document entirely (some fonts are not in the list). All the fonts show up in Photoshop and Illustrator however. I tried reloading the fonts again and reloading Freehand and the update just to make sure.
I'm still very stumped

So, create a new Freehand document and type in some text and choose the problem fonts from the font list. If these show up OK in the new FH file, than there is a corruption in your old file somewhere. If not, try these fonts in other applications to make sure they indeed work.
What I would do is create a new FH file at the same size and specs as your old file. Then copy/paste the art from the old one onto the new one and see if the fonts show up.
If not, then try the non-text elements only along with the text blocks that do show up correctly. The worst that can happen is copy paste the old text into the new file and reformat it to the fonts that wouldn't show up before. Basically using a clean, uncorrupted file.
Let me know what happens.

Toshiba All-in-One DX1210 - remote stopped working

Hi,
I have a DX1210 (PQQ09A-02900G), and I have an issue where the remote works fine when I start the machine for about 15-20 mins, then it just stops working.
There are no errors and can't find anything in the event logs.
Only way to get it to work again is reboot or put it to sleep and wake it up again.
Still only lasts another 15 mins or so again.
Anyone come across this before? Running Win7 64bit.

Big Friday's New Software Has Made My iTouch Useless!!!!!!!

I purchased an my 16GB iTouch when they were first released (I was one of the first ones on the waiting list). I have had my iTouch all of this time and never had a problem. Then I read about the new iTunes software and the new Apple iTouch software that was released on Friday, Sept. 12th and was excited about the new features that I read about. Well I downloaded and installed the software and ever since my iTouch is not recognized by my Windows XP Dell. I have not made any changes to my PC nor have I added any new software for months. But now if I plug in my iTouch, the iTunes software will automatically launch but it will never recognize my iTouch. I have spent the entire day today reading through forums and trying ridiculously long uninstalls/reinstalls, updated drivers, working with device manager, stopping and starting services, etc. I have completely uninstalled every Apple application from my PC including Safari and Apple Mobile Device and then I reinstall Itunes (I have done this entire process twice). My iTouch is still not recognized. I have spent 25 years in the IT department of my company and I have never ran into something as frustrating as this which was obviously caused by the new iTunes 8.0 software installation. I guess I should have waited until Apple allowed all of their users to debug their software instead of doing it themselves before they released it to the public. If anyone has any idea at all about how to get my iTouch recognized in iTunes I would greatly appreciate it. Please note that I have already tried most everything that I have read as a possible solution. The only thing I have not tried is to uninstall iTunes and then try to find a copy of an older version of iTunes to install. I cannot believe I have wasted an entire day and made a $300+ piece of hardward useless due to a installation of the latest version of iTunes. And to think I was on the verge of buying the newest 32GB version of the iTouch!

I had a similar issue with a new iPod Touch 2G, so I am spreading a very general message to a couple of threads to help whomever I can. My iPod Touch wasn't detected in iTunes, but Windows was detecting it as a Digital Camera, it seems to be a driver problem. First search in Windows for the driver USBAAPPL.SYS you may need to enable searching for hidden files and folders. Most likely you have a driver dated at the time of an iTunes 7.x upgrade so it should say July, August, or whatever. This needs to be the upgraded to the driver produced in September, therefore most of your Apple Apps should come out. I went to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and took out iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, MobileMe (don't know how that got on there) and Bonjour. Afterwards I did a reboot to lose any temporary files and then did another search for the USBAAPL.SYS driver. After all instances were gone from iTunes and the windows/system32 directories I did an iTunes reinstall. Search for the driver again and the date should be something like September 10th

Lenovo Thinkpad E530 - USB 3.0 Ports Not Working Code 10

Hi everyone, so I own a Lenovo E530 with Windows 7 and just earlier today I plugged in my optical mouse into it, about 10 minutes in, Windows gave me a "not enough power message" for my USB 3.0 ports on the left side and they just stopped working. I have 3 USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the laptop, and one USB 2.0 on the right which works just fine.
From there it gave me Code 10 for Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface in the Network Adapter section (which I was able to fix via a registry change) and now what is left to fix is the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller which I cannot seem to fix. I have tried the uninstall/reinstall processes, with Intel's own drivers and Lenovo drivers which were just older version of the Intel USB 3.0 drivers, over and over yet it is still stuck on Code 10, where it will not start.
I never really overused the USB ports either, aside from plugging in a portable USB fan and portable hard drive here and there, and a USB dongle for a wireless mouse and keyboard (Logitech all-in-ones), that is pretty much all I have done with it. I do not believe the ports are not bad or anything, although it may be a hardware problem, but all 3 USB ports still give power on my fan and external HDs when I plug it in, it is just that Windows does not recognize it and nothing happens when I plug something into. But on the other hand, the USB 2.0 port reads just fine and recognizes everything. I have also tried the Troubleshooter multiple times, but everytime it tries to reinstall I get the "Failed" message.

I have tried reinstalling and uninstalling the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for W7 using the ones listed on the drivers page through Lenovo and using the newest version fround on Intel's webpage as well. Having done these I still could not get it working, so I did a full reformat of the Hard Drive, from there I am able to get the USB 2.0 and 1 of the 3 USB 3.0 ports to work (the very top one above/left of the HDMI port) and recognize devices when I plug them into Windows. But this is working through not having the USB 3.0 Driver installed and just the basic one without having any updates/drivers installed on. Once I install the USB 3.0 Driver back it, it goes back to the original problem.
The problem still persists even though I have done multiple reformats, uninstall/reinstalls, updating to newest drivers and BIOS, etc. I have owned and still own a whole family of Lenovo laptops which still work perfectly fine, but this is the first time I have seen anything like this go wrong in a laptop. Is there anything else I can try to fix this problem? The laptop just went out of warranty a few months ago, and if I were to send it in and get it repaired would it cost me a lot?

CS5.5 crashing all the time

Flash CS5.5 has suddenly started crashing all the time. It's ridiculous.
It's always about 2 seconds after:
- Minimizing/Bringing forward another window.
- Testing a movie
- Opening/closing another fla in CS5.5
This is with any fla file. It's incredibly frustrating.
The window just tints white and I get a "____________ has stopped working", and my only choice is to close program.
I am using Windows 7.
I am really shocked at how progressively unreliable EVERY Flash Pro has been since CS3, despite being an industry standard.
It's been incredibly useful to me since I first started using it in 2004 (MX 2004 that is). However, considering all my other development software, it is clear that it is by far the most unreliable.
It is unacceptable.

This answer resolved my issue.. WITH OUT HAVING TO REINSTALL ANY ADOBE PRODUCTS, I would give it a try FIRST (to avoid reinstallation/updates)
The process that screwed up everything, I am ALMOST sure of it is....
I just installed MySQL Workbench and tools package & WAMPserver (APACHIE Server & PHPmyADMIN, SQL Buddy) exc....
It must have corrupted the JAVA VM so reinstallation of JVM and I also decided to go in to the FLASH.exe (CS5.5) "Properties" and clicked on to make the progrm to run as ADMIN and "Run in Compatibility mode" Win Xp SP3 just to cover my bases.
I also jacked up my JVM.ini [C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\Common\First Run\ActionScript 3.0]
FROM (-Xmx128m) *default* TO.....
-Xmx256m
In order to do it though Windows wouldn't allow me to just edit/save to the origional directory so I had to copy the JVM.ini file to the desk top/edit then copy it back to the origionating directory
So my current configuration is this:
INTEL P4 Duel core 3.2Ghz
Win 7 (Up to date completely)
4GB RAM
6 HDD's consisteing in 4+/- TB's in space
Adobe CS4^, CS5^*, CS5.5* ([*]Design Premium & [^]Production Premium) [Had to split the difference due to me not having the 64bit processor in my tower]
Just figured I would actually post on here so other users may find my system specs and the resolution helpful if they are having related issues.

Welcome to iPhone. Posted below are some nice links for new iPhone customers. And to answer your question. No it is not normal to have to reset and restore your iPhone when updating to iPhone 1.1.3 As long as you chose Check for Updates, Download and Install. Then you should be Ok. If you chose Restore. Then Restore downloads the update. Then wipes out your iPhone and reinstalls update and new OS.

Nokia 6280 backlight always on.

Hi i got a problem with my nokia 6280. The blacklight is always on. Even when i turn it off the black light stills on.Frimeware version is v06.43. any got any ide whate i could be?

the fact that the back light is on even with the phone turned off is disturbing. anyway, remove the battery, that should turn the backlight off, wait for few seconds and then replace the battery back,don't turn te phone on, check to see if the backlight turns on again, if it did , then it's most propaly a hardware defect that should be checked by a nokia care point. if on the other hand the backlight stayed off, and the problem appeared only after you turned on the device for the first time, then i think you should reinstall your firmware and check again, if problem persisted after firmware reinstallation/update then take the phone to the nearest nokia care point.

Volume changes by its

Ever since I installed SP2 for Windows XP I've had this problem.
When I listen to a song in Winamp, I press play, the volume would start off low, then when I click the seeking bar (to scroll to any particular point in a song) the volume would change to very high by itself. By the time the next song starts the volume will be back to low again. If I don't touch anything the volume wouldn't change. It only happens when I try to scroll through a song.
It also happens in Windows Media Play when I watch a movie, or listen to any music file. It also happens in games, in which case the volume just changes from soundbyte to soundbyte.
This is SB Audigy BTW. I've tried a reinstall of driver and clean reboot to no avail. Can anyone help me please?

? Then, because of not liking to test if it's the driver w/ using rest of the possible driver modes, why not try w/ reinstallation/updating the codecs? -

W/ WDM/KS and ASIO driver, you could just test if
- there is some driver issues w/ basic drivers (MME, DirectSound w/ or w/o WDM and WDM) which ones you're using w/ std audio players mentioned here, and
- the windows audio system is OK too
ASIO driver allows your playback software communicate directly w/ the HW so there should be nothing else between your player and soundcard but the source selection part of the mixer and the main volume knob.

Jagged fonts after compiling for FP10

Has anyone else seen this problem? I upgraded to FB 3.0.2 w/
the 3.2 SDK and everything was fine. Then I started playing around
with the new text engine, and in order to enable it I had to add
the "-target-player=10.0.0" compiler option. Once I did that, all
the fonts which previously looked great, started looking very
jagged. Its like flash player has lost the ability to anti-alias
system fonts.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Well you kind of answered your question already.
1) OpenType uses the underlying and now native text-smoothing of OS X.
2) Actually, Adobe has been pushing us all to move to OT fonts (as well as Apple). Rather unfortunate for the many people that have spent years and mucho-$$$$ collecting PS-Type 1 fonts. But I expect the day will eventually come where you wont be able to use PS-1 fonts any more either.
You haven't mentioned which OS systems you're comparing.
Which OS on the Mac? Leopard? Snow Leopard?.... and on the PC? XP? Win7?
I found FreeHand to work the best with Panther on a G5... and on a PC using WinXP-SP2. However, that's also because FreeHand was last updated with those OS's in mind, and tested with each... although I could be wrong about Panther. It could have last been tested with OS9 on G3 or G4.
You gotta realize... the underlying OSes have moved on, and due to Adobe's stubborness, FreeHand hasn't been updated since ca. February, 2004.
Putting it another way, we should consider it lucky that FreeHand works at all with any of the modern (i.e. Leopard and SL, Win7) OSes.

HP Touchpad Backup

It is interesting to see there is no forum or board specific to the HP Touchpad. Yes yes it a dead product, but there is a niche group of those who still utilize the tablet.
It has survived in part due to the Cyanogen group who provided a custom rom.
My question is what option(s) is there for those who still use the webOS or want to retain the webOS system and have the option for backup or restoration? More specifically I would like to have a backup program, image or executable where I can save my current copy or reformat to a fresh install. Similiar to a backup CD for desktops/laptops.
I imagine having a backup executable/image is not possible as, after one would "reinstalls" updates to the drivers/programs/apps for the webOS would be needed. And how would one update that if the webOS support is gone.
Any help to have a full and current backup (as of XYZ date) is desired.

I'd suggest you head over to webosnation.com and look into their TouchPad section for suggestions how to survive without HP's support and still use webOS.
There are a few options available.
With the possibility of webOS/Palm being sold to another tech company, who knows what the future will hold?!
Your other option is to simply install Android on the TouchPad and presto! You have a brand-new (almost) tablet that works very well! I've done this to two different TouchPads.

I have a new IMAC with a Maverick platform (I can update to Yosemite). I did all graphics on a G5 Power PC (very old), in Freehand (very old)... How can I open old Freehand files on this new Mac? Can I still open and work in Freehand on this new Mac?

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

One possibility, is a strange occurence when applying the big 10.5.8 combo, most people have to Repair Permissions twice in a row, then reboot.

Your plugins list in "more system details" shows Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_31 for Mozilla browsers so Java should not be blocked.
Could you post a link to a webpage where Java isn't working for you? YouTube uses Flash, not Java. Here is a list of Java test pages you can try, to confirm that Java is working, from http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Testing_Java

By the way, I see in your plugins list that you also have the VLC media player Web Plugin 2.0.0 so, it's possible that the VLC plugin is causing a conflict if YouTube or other videos don't work. See [[Video or audio does not play]] (you may need to disable the VLC Media Player plugin in the Add-ons -> Plugins list for some media to play).

Did latest Mac 10.5.8 update kill Freehand?

Long time FH user, didn't upgrade to Snow Leopard specifically to keep FH running. It's been humming along on my MacBook Pro for 2 years. Yesterday I allowed an automatic Apple system update as I do all the time and now Freehand will no longer start. The icon bounces around in the dock as if it's starting, settles, but never opens on the desktop. Right click on the icon shows 'application not responding.' So I uninstalled/reinstalled, repaired permissions, tried to open on another user account. No luck. Anyone have any ideas? I'm seriously going to have to find an old Tiger Mac just to open my files and convert to Illustrator if I can't get this resolved.

What is this "combo update" to 10.5.8 you are referring to if I reinstall Leopard?
Will reinstalling OS require reinstalling all of my others apps?
Do you know if FH will run on 10.6? Thinking of buying a new Mac just to run FH.
Is there any way to open a FH file not saved as .eps in Illustrator?
I am running 10.5.8 on my Mac Pro Quad and FreeHand runs fine but that was because I cloned my main hard drive onto another drive before I erased the main drive. I installed Leopard and ran the combo update for 10.5.8. (Basically the combo update is all previous 10.5 updates in one installer.)
The old apps can be brought back to the "fresh" main drive through Migration Assistant but I chose to reinstall them by hand including FreeHand just in case. A bit of a hassle but at least everything is running smoothly and I discovered online updates to my graphics software that I hadn't installed before. Plus it feels good to have a clean system.
A big YES on running FreeHand on 10.6! The only catch is you need to download Adobe's patch to the registration problem: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/504/cpsid_50468.html
If you have illustrator CS4 or 5 you can open a native FreeHand file but it won't always be the same. If you have editable text or gradients or type-on-a-path, these will come out garbled and broken. Look at what happened to my artwork: http://freefreehand.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8#p25
