Freehand quits when printing on new iMac

When printing out of Freehand 10, it processes to the printer then immediately quits. I'm printing to a Canon Pixma iP4200. I can print with no problems from Quark Photoshop, Acrobat and others. Just not Freehand. I've posted on this before and tried suggestion of reinstalling print drivers from iMac install disks and downloading driver from Canon web site. Still won't print from Freehand. Any suggestions?
Kristi

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Priter Setup Utility.
Also try downloading the 10.4.7 Combo Updater from Apple and re-Update.

• Can't select paper type or output quality when printing from new imac....

Not sure if I'm in the right place to post this question....
When I try to print (from ANY app; Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) to my hp business jet inkjet printer, I get a print menu, but no where on the print menu (or any pulldown tabs) do I have an opportunity to select paper type or output quality. I am unable to print photos, for example.
The printer worked fine with the old PC; there is no driver to d/l for mac.
Only from iPhoto can I select paper type (from a limited number of choices), but not from any other app on my imac. I mostly use InDesign and print flyers and brochures, many with photos, and can't select anything other than plain paper. Do I need a new printer? Genius bar 'help' said they had no idea why it wasn't working....
HELP!!!
Thanks!

Hi Duane,
Yes, I opened the Printer Driver package, and then pulled up my test InDesign file and selected File>Print, and here's the screen i get: (hope this works, I'm trying Skitch for the first time)...

Click for full size - Uploaded with plasq's Skitch
when I click on "Setup" in the print menu box, I get this screen:

Click for full size - Uploaded with plasq's Skitch
I've clicked on each topic on the left on the Print menu, and still there is no where to select paper type or output resolution.
The same thing happens when I print from Photoshop.
Thanks.

• Adobe Apps Quit when printing

I am running 16 24' Imac core duo computers in my lab. Printing is managed by my G5 Server. All apple software is updated We are currently using Adobe CS, (waiting for CS3). Adobe products with exception of acrobat quit when printing. In my Imac G5 lab this is not occuring. All users must have accounts, home directeries are located on the server, each user has 2 gigs of space. Server has 6 gigs of RAM each Imac has 3 gigs of RAM. If you login as admin on workstation, printing is fine. Adobe apps quit when printing, project will print but apps quit. Already depressed cause my Packers did not make the playoffs
Could use some help (both me and my Packers:))
thanks

Hi
I think I have a solution to your problem – stop supporting the Packers and start supporting the Steelers. Once that happens you’ll find that all Adobe apps wont quit and will print OK.

• CS 5.5 quits unexpectedly on a new iMac

My CS 5.5 quits unexpectedly on my new iMac after transferring it via time machine. I transferred all the data from my old iMac and the indesign cs 5.5 doesn't work well - it can't export to pdf, gives a notice that the pdf.indesignplugin is missing, quits when trying to place a file, quits when trying to access the pdf export menu from the file menu.
I uninstalled all my creative suite from the old iMac so I need a solution ASAP. any ideas how to help me please?

Uninstall, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3 ) and reinstall clean from the original installer, then run the updates again.

• Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion a gray bar sometimes appears when loading software?

Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion, sometimes a gray bar appears under the Apple that begins to shade to dark as it loads OS?  It does this on occasion.  One time the system loaded was VERY slow and terrible colors.  Pulled the plug, re-started the computer and it did not do this.  As I say, its only on occasion, not every time.  I noticed in the discussion page there were problems listed for 10.6 nothing for Lion.
Please advise, if possible.

You should see this 4 option menu.  Click on Disk Utility:
In Disk Utility, Select FIRST AID and then VERIFY and then REPAIR the disk.
Ciao.

• Applications run slowly and quit when printing on a G5

I recently migrated applications, documents, and accounts from a G4 to a G5., both running OS X Tiger 10.4.9. Since migrating, many times a day there have been problems with it.
Applications (mostly FileMaker and Microsoft Word 2004) run a little more slowly than they should. Of more concern is how these applications will unexpectedly quit when printing. They will quit just before the print dialogue box is supposed to appear. It doesn't happen every time, but it shouldn't be happening at all. The printers used are all shared printers but not postscript-based printers.
I've tried a number of things (deleting the printers and adding them again, repaired permissions, updated software, deleted corrupt fonts, uninstalled MS Office & reinstalled, zapped PRAM) and nothing has helped.
I thought I'd ask here for any suggestions (since this looks like it might be a common enough problem) before I resort to reinstalling everything! Thanks!

Reinstall if deleting .plist files doesn't help. Seems that crashing on launch is common enough after the recent update http://www.macfixit.com
Backup. And whenever you do a clean install, back that up there and then, sparseimage works fine, and keep it handy if you need to restore.
I'd run First Aid and Disk Warrior.
I thought my printing problems began with the Security Update 2007-004 and went back to earlier image. Have not yet reapplied to test whether it would or not.
After spending a couple full morning trying various fixes, a restore or reinstall did the trick. I'd suggest the same.

• When is the new imac coming out?

When is the new imac coming out?

I heard that it is this Friday (21.5 ")  But who knows for sure.  I am really dying to see it and see if it is truly 75% less reflective.  The only reason I don't have a mac is because of the reflective/mirror screens. I just cannot work on them. I am praying that the claim of 75% reflective is very obvious.

• Share printer to new iMac

Hello. I just ordered my first Apple computer today. I am a long time PC owner, but have used Macs at work for the past few years to run apps like FInal Cut/DVD Studio etc.
I have an HP Inkjet copy, scan, fax and printer hooked up to my HP computer. The printer is not networked, but it is shared, so I can print from my laptop. Obviously I can't use the scanner unless I drectly hook it up to my iMac, but I would like the option to be able to print to it. With my laptop, I just conneted to the desktop over my network, and dragged the printer icon into my laptops' printer control panel folder. Can I do something similar to share my printer to my iMac for printing? Thank you very much for any help.

There are also many resources available right on your new iMac that answer questions such as this. In the Finder Help menu is an app called Mac Help. The following is from Mac Help;
Setting up to print to a printer shared by a Windows computer via SMB/CIFS
You can print to a printer connected to a Windows computer, if it supports SMB/CIFS and has been set up to be shared. You need to ask the printer's owner for the printer's workgroup and for any necessary user name and password.
1. Open the document to print, and choose File > Print.
2. Choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu, and then click More Printers.
3. Choose Windows Printing from the top pop-up menu, choose a network workgroup from the pop-up menu that appears directly below it, select a workgroup from the list, and click Choose.
4. Any Windows printers in the network you've chosen appear in the Printer List.
5. Select the printer, choose its model from the Printer Model pop-up menu, and then click Choose. Enter the user name and password for the printer when prompted.
6. IMPORTANT: Be sure to choose the correct printer model for the printer you're using. For more information, see the documentation that came with the printer. If you have an HP PCL compatible printer that is not listed in the Printer Model pop-up menu, choose the printer model that most closely matches your printer. See the link below for a list of printers and the models they most closely resemble. (You may need to scroll down part way to see the table.)
If your computer cannot determine the options that are installed on your printer, a dialog appears that lets you choose those options. Make sure the settings in that dialog accurately reflect your printer's installed options so you can take full advantage of them. Then click Continue.
If you are trying to add a Windows printer that is not available, contact your network administrator for assistance.

• Odd characters when printing PDFs from iMac (10.6.3)

When printing a PDF from the iMac (new 27") above, we get odd characters printed down the right margin of the page. These characters do not appear when viewing in either Acrobat Reader or Preview. This also does not happen when printing from Parallels. The printer is an HP Officejet 6000. Just to throw an added wrench into this, the problem does not happen when printing from a new Mac Mini (also 10.6.3) to the same printer. Any solutions?

Check whether the fonts installed and active are the same. In particular, look for font conflicts in Font Book, and resolve them so both computers are using the same versions.

• CS 5 quits when print is selected

Photoshop CS 5 quits when the print button is selected on the print page.   Print works OK with all other applications.  I am using Mac OS 10.9.2.  I have already trashed photoshop plist in Library, but no help.  Any other suggestions?

Try resetting Photoshop's preferences, and check with your printer maker for updated drivers.

• 77 songs not transferred when synching to new iMac

I synched my video ipod to the newly purchased iMac after copying the library over on firewire to iTunes. I do not see a 'purchased music' file on the new iTunes. 77 songs and a purchased video did not load on the ipod. Do I need the 'purchased file' as proof for the iMac to synch? If so, anyone know where it is and how I transfer it?
iMac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

There is no Music folder.
Perhaps I should try to start from a clean slate again. Do you think it will make sense to wipe out all the data and re-install OSX, re-migrate? There will not be any lost data (compared to what I have now..)
When I re-installed OSX, I had to state a name. I chose the name on the previous computer, which led to a conflict when I tried to migrate. I had to choose another name for the new iMac. Could this have led to the inability to restore properly? (am I making sense?)

• When do the new imacs come out?

I am fixing to purchase a new mac, but want to know when the new imacs come out so I won't make a purchase and the new ones drop the nest week.

The new iMacs come out when Apple announces a release date, which they haven't yet, and no one has anyway of knowing until said announcement is made.
