Freehand to Autocad or Archicad

Hello
By any chance, do you know how can I import my Freehand 10 files into Autocad or Archicad
Thanks in advance
Best
Cyril

I'm using FHMX on Windows7 - others may have better methods.
You will need an application that can import  files from FH and export to DXF.
A couple of methods I use:
export each grouped FH layer as an illustrator 88 file and include common registration marks top left/bottom right on each layer
open the individual illustrator files in CorelDraw and rebuild the drawing file layers snapping each layer into place
export the CorelDraw file as DXF
import DXF into AutoCAD
Using Illustrator CS5:
Illustrator CS5 can open FH files directly and then export as DWG or DXF and CS5 preserves the FH layers. I have used this method with simple FH files, but I don’t know how more complicated files react.
Expect some problems with text , bezier curves, fills etc. with both methods - its not perfect.

  • Interface Illustrator / Oracle (or comparable database)

We handle a big amount of huge Illustrator-Files. Some of our drawings have a size of 3.5 x 4.5 meters and contain several hundredthousand objects. We are looking for an interface to store this data on a server and to allow workgroups to load just a part of the drawing, to modify it and to save it back to the server.
We are cartographers. But to make it a bit more clear just imagine an architect drawing a skyscraper with Illustrator in one big file. Imagine this architect would like to allow one workgroup to make changes in the drawing of the the basement and at the same time one workgroup makes changes to the drawing of the penthouse.
There are interfaces available to connect AutoCAD or ArchiCAD-Files to Oracle. We are looking for an interface to connect Illustrator to Oracle (or something comparable).
    Kind regards,

P.S.: Sorry for crossposting to "Illustrator Feature Requests" and "Illustrator Developers SDK" forum, but it seems to me, this forum here is the better place for my topic.

I am working on a project to transfer data from Illustrator to MySQL Database. Give me at [email protected] more detailed info about your Illustrator-Files, then I'll let you know if any breakthrough.

  • MacBook for architecture student going to Singapore

    Hi!
I'm studying architecture in Poland. In august I'm going for one term to Singapore to study. I've got to buy a laptop. Now I'm working with Corel, AutoCAD, sometimes ArchiCAD and 3Dmax. Could you give me some advice on hardware with warranty valid around the world? Does anyone know what architectural software is commonly used in Singapore?
    Thanks in advance for replying.

  • Placing a ArchiCAD DXF into CS4 Illustrator

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to open a DXF file into CS4 Illustrator but it's just not happening. The DXF is being provided by Graphisoft ArchiCAD. I've also been sent DXF files from autoCAD to test on to see if these open which also I'm afraid to say don't open either. The message I got for these was 'The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available', I have checked and there is more than enough memory.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Fi

It worked fine for me…when I first double clicked on the file it opened Illustrator but not the file but when I doubled clicked again after AI was opened the file opened.
You can try File>Place or File Open if Double clicking on the fies icon does not work.
I will post this in the forum as well. You should not have any problems with this file which is AutoCAD 2000 or later.
I see now you are concerned about the lines not being connected perhaps this is not AutoCAD 2000 I think AutoCAD 2002 and after will open in Illustrator as object and not paths I just happen to select one that was connected but I see others are not you might need Concatenate for this if you had Concatenate by Rick Johnson already then you do not need to purchase it you can download the CS 4 version free.

  • Is MacBook 2.2 capable of running AutoCad

    Hi-
Long time Mac owner that knows virtually nothing about how these things work. Need to purchase a new machine and will be running autoCad for interior design work. Also quite cheap. Can I pick a refurb. MacBook, upgrade some memory and run Autocad. Have a friend that seems to do this quite well-but everyone at Apple tells me that its just an impossibility. Any suggestions?

I'm running a ArchiCAD on my mac and it works fine, it is similar to AutoCAD in some way. Do you want to install to windows on Mac, or are you trying to run it in OSX? I don't think there is AutoCAD for mac platform.
Just make sure you have 2GB+ RAM.

  • Freehand Users / Adobe

Yes. Freehand remains far better than Illustrator. We have
been using Freehand for the last 12 years here at Electronic
Theatre Controls, Inc. I am a Product Graphic Designer and need the
features and power that FHMX provides. We use Illustrator basically
to export .dxf. files. I think if Adobe had a Graphic Designer who
worked in Macromedia Freehand and then started using Adobe
Illustrator that Adobe would finally "get it" I think they would
just take FHMX and write Illustrator on the box. Designers do not
like the cumbersome slow interface of Illustrator.
I can run rings around Illustrator users with FHMX. While
your figuring out how to stop the guides from moving or trying to
set up a custom page size, my work will be on its way to be made
    into a finished product.
The name - Freehand does not accurately describe what this
    program does.
It's simply the best Vector Graphics program for doing
professional design work. I work with Engineers who use Solidworks
and AutoCAD. With Freehand, Acrobat Professional and Photoshop, I
am able to do award winning design work.
Can we ask Adobe to continue to support and expand Freehand?
Or can we ask them to put all of the great features Freehand
    has into Illustrator?
I think new designers are just given Illustrator and think
that's the only program they have to choose from.
Adobe, please consider that the professional users of
Freehand will continue to use it anyway. Why not please your
    customers?
    Thank you,
    John Masino
    ETC Product Graphic Designer

First off, nice blog site you have. Very informative on the
Adobe-Freehand issue over the last few years.
Secondly, I was more frustrated by the interview than I was
appeased. Corporate Adobe seems more at fault than Terry Hemphill,
who I felt was only toe-ing that corporate line. Comments like
these don't help me feel confident when I am looking at keeping my
    FH workflow:
    — "Adobe will continue to evaluate the demand for
FreeHand before bringing the product to end-of-life. It's not our
intention to force people into another solution."
    — "Freehand is not going to be revived; time to move
on, really. The Illustrator team is making a determined effort to
bring the best of FreeHand into Illustrator, which should be
evident from some of the new features in CS4."
    — "Official line -- we don't comment on future
    development plans."
    — "Illustrator's integration with other Adobe tools and
presence as the industry standard application for designing vector
    content."
    — "Special upgrade pricing for owners of FreeHand who
want to move to Illustrator, and we're updating the FreeHand
migration guide for CS4, which should be available for download on
    line early next year."
From the interview, I see AI now has Multiple Artboards
(nice) and working on Clipping Masks in this latest AI version, but
like FH Addict says, CS6 may be the earliest I ever upgrade. You
have a ways to go yet.
(Message to AI team, get the simplicity of FH tools and
workflow, not the bloat I see. Make a REAL effort to create the FH
workspace within AI. Keep it a separate interface from your
Illustrator Users if you want, but show me the familiar interface
and tools when Freehand was your competitor.)

  • Freehand into flash what is wrong ?

Are there known issues with Freehand files opening into
Flash, I find small circles (2mm downwards) take on a squarish look
and a straight pecked line is no longer straight but now has
straight sections in a zigzag way, (start and end points are as in
FH file). What settings do I need to alter. No one on the flash
forum has responded in weeks. Surely two progs both vector based
should be able to communicate better than this by the same company
? FH9 and FHMX with Flash 2004 and latest patches.
    Envirographics

    DJRichCT.
Thanks for replying,..no special effect with the circles, I
even did a test page, file new, draw a small circle and make it
0.1mm and 2mm diameter and get a suarish circle in flash.
    quote:
For example, a dashed line in FH will not go in as a dashed
    line in Flash.
So dashed lines cannot be taken into Flash, (well not without
geting bent, as I see dashed lines ) ...thats a real total
gut-wrenching let-down as I have technical drawings that require
them to show hidden details, engineering drawing style. Basically
then that shoots down all my hopes. Just trying here to get my FH
files into CAD, also my mapwork, flash was the only option left to
me for the engineering type drawings. For many of us £1000 or
more of autocad is prohibitive for unpaid aviation plan drawing as
can be seen in many magazines, involving years of research. Some of
this is now required for aircraft building and I am left with
creating jpgs of my work and the client using a printout, not quite
PC to PC, and unable to use my demo CAD progs I am trying out on my
own work. Stepping stone it via Illustrator failed the tests also.
I just cant believe why Corel and Adobe allow CAD export and
Macromedia not, and now they never will. Years of work to redo but
what I see of Illustrator and its layers and guides, I need
Freehand still for the work type !
Makate, you say you are not seeing any problems dashed into
Flash, this doesnt equate with DJRichCT ?
I find the problem is evident at smaller sizes, circles 1mm
diameter certainly exhibit it and dashed lines 3mm or 6mm long
looking at the test just done go bent.
Can a few peeps reading this try this test, draw a 3mm
diagonal dashed line, then place the corners of a few solid line
boxes touching that line, now do they still touch when imported
into flash, is the line dead straight ?
Also draw a 1mm solid line circle, import to flash, is it a
perfect circle or flat sided ? use 0.1mm line weight for clarity.
PC or Mac, what OS ?
    Cheers

  • AutoCAD Revit Architekture 2010 in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended

    Hallo,

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro in Windows 7 w/ Autocad in XP Mode- not working

I'm running Autocad Arch Desktop (ADT) in Windows XP Mode within Windows 7, and have Adobe Acrobat Pro installed in Windows 7.  Unfortunately, no "Adobe PDF"  pulldown was created within ADT once Adobe Pro was installed, and there isn't any sign of Adobe in ADT (normally, Adobe automatically installs pulldowns within ADT once installed).  Adobe and ADT function normally otherwise.  Does anyone know how to get Adobe Acrobat Pro in Windows 7 to recognize and work with ADT in Windows XP Mode?

Can you tell me how to set the defaults to Courier 10pt font?  I tried select all and it's grayed out, but that was after the
fact.  Where are the original default presets?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Can't Edit AutoCAD Drawings (Error 1415)

I like to copy AutoCAD drawings directly from AutoCAD model space and paste them into Visio.  Usually I can edit the drawing in AutoCAD by double clicking on the drawing in Visio.  However, certain drawings keep giving me the "1415" error
stating that is is unable to open the drawing.  Sometimes the drawings open, but most times they don't.  I have resaved the drawings in older versions of AutoCAD to make sure this wasn't a compatibility issue.  Is there a way to fix this error?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Based on my research, if we choose to do a custom installation of Microsoft Visio with all Add-ons marked as "install on first use", and attempt to edit an embedded AutoCad
(CAD) object, the error message may appear.
In order to display and work with inserted AutoCad (CAD) objects in Microsoft Visio,
we must install the CAD Drawing component.
Following the steps to do so:
    Click
    Start menu, click Control Panel.
    Click
    Programs and Features.
    Select
Microsoft Visio Premium 2010, and then click
    Change.
    Click
Add or Remove Features, then click
    Continue.
    Expand
    Microsoft Visio,  Add-ons
    (US units)
    by clicking the plus sign.
    Click
    CAD Drawing.
    Click
    Run from My Computer.
    Click
    Continue.

Go to the directory where your Lightroom catalog is located. Find a file with the same name as your catalog but that has the extension ".LOCK".  Get rid of or rename the Lock file only. Lightroom should now open.

I am experiencing problem (the installation does not start) when I try to install ArchiCAD 17 Educational on my mac. I am using Yosemite. How can I fix it?

You need to contact the developer/manufacturer directly to determine if their product is compatible w/Yosemite.  It is not listed on their system requirement website:
    Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks
Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
    Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard*
Note: ArchiCAD 17 is the last version of ArchiCAD to support Mac OS X 10.6
Only case insensitive file-system volumes are supported.

  • Copying objects from Illustrator CS3 to FreeHand 11.0.2

Working on a Mac in OSX 10.4.11, I was able to select and copy objects in an open Illustrator CS2 file and paste them into an open FreeHand 11.0.2 file, where they would be fully editable. After migrating to OSX 10.6.2 and upgrading to CS3, this no longer works - the objects selected and copied from Illustrator either do not appear (only corner indicators are visible) or a pale version appears as an uneditable low-rez image with funny colors....
Because there are so many missing features in Illustrator, it's important for me to be able to work back and forth between the two apps.  Has anyone been able to achieve this (formerly) simple interactivity?

I got the following post from Danny Haas:
If you go to Edit>Special>Paste Special and then select AI/EPS from the list
it should paste just fine. It works well for me.
Worked for me too, although text was not imported as editable text.  To do
that had to special paste the text separately as unformatted text, and then
    reformat in FH.

I skipped AICS3, but now use AICS4 for some tasks.
The only solution I've found is to save the AI CS4 file as AI 8, open that
in FHMX and copy from there.

  • Old version of FreeHand 5

I had a working version of FreeHand 5 on my XP machine, which I have used to do a great deal of work, mostly newsletters. It has a lot of features which seem to be missing in the MX versions. It stopped working when my backup disk failed. I need a new activation number. I called about it several months ago, but I couldn't find the actual disk. so they couldn't give me the code. Now, I have the disk, and the documentation files, but I cannot contact Adobe again by telephone.

  • I am trying DWF files to a PDF format but only half of my drawing is converting.  Can anyone help?  Is it a setting?  The original file is an autocad file.

How do you convert AutoCAD DWF files to a PDF format.  These are blue prints and I was told by Adobe to use the Acrobat DC program so that's what I did but now I am only getting half of a drawing on a page.  Is this as simple as a setting?

    Hi subscription question,
I've checked your account; it looks like you tried to place two separate orders this morning, but it doesn't appear that either went through. However, it does sound as though you've been able to convert a file successfully. What happens when you log in to your account at https://cloud.acrobat.com/files? Do you see your converted file there? All converted files are automatically stored in your online account, even when you convert from within Reader.
