Freeze at startup, cannot boot and access bios?

Guys, I'm in very weird situation. After resize one partiion in my hard drive (using Gparted), at startup, I press ESC to access the BIOS options menu, following info displayed on screen Processor Type: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHzProcessor Speed: 3200MHzL1/L2/L3 Cache Size: ...Memory Size: 4096 MB DDR3Channel 1 A: XMM1 4096 MBBIOS Revision/Date: v80.05 02/05/2015 Press the Esc key for startup menu Then the computer freezed, cannot boot to my OS (Linux Centos 7), I press Esc key but nothing happened. I've tried to reset the BIOS by removing the jumpers and CMOS battery. It works (OS loaded successfully) , but after rebooting, the same problem occur. I'm very confusing. I just bought this desktop recently. Please help me to figure this out. Thanks.

I would suggest doing what is known as a *Safe Boot* on your MacBook. To do this, hold down the shift key on your keyboard during startup. Among other things, this forces a check of your hard drive's directory, which is equivalent to using *Disk Utility* to repair the disk. It may or may not be successful. Note that the Safe Boot process takes a while. Keep holding down the key.

Screen freezes, even in safe mode and in BIOS

I’m working on a friend’s laptop: Toshiba, Satellite M65 - S9092
Original problem: The laptop started shutting down after few minutes of use. (Probable overheating)
Took the laptop apart and clean it out. The heatsink, fan and outlets were really plugged up. Put it back together and did a clean re-install, Windows XP. Had few issues with USB drivers not being recognized but worked it out. Ran stress test for a whole day, no problem.
Worked for few days and then USB wasn’t being recognized again and the screen started freezing up. Re-installed os again but it is still freezing up after few minutes, and stays that way till hard shut down.
Screen freezes even in safe mode and in BIOS. (No blue screens)
Switched existing RAM’s around (2 - 512MB), one stick, two sticks, etc…still freezing up. Wanted to upgrade the BIOS but can’t get pass the screen freezing. Not sure if the motherboard may be shot from previous overheating or need new RAM. Don’t want to spend money till I’m sure I’m replacing the right part.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Hi there... I have a satellite A70 - S256 an it was freezing up the same way. I downloaded an OS named UBUNTU fron the internet free of charge. once you download it an burn it to cd you can then boot from it after a couple of tries ( due to freezing). When it boots select your language immediately and choose the option to run memory tests (both installed and BIOS) and let it do its thing for as long as it takes. you should boot from UBUNTU on another working pc to get familiar with it if you are not allready so that you make your selection quickly before it freezes. You may have to reboot a few times depending on freezing while the memory test is in progress and how much progress is made. This procedure fixed mines and I never had those problems again.

Imac freezes on startup grey screen and really loud fans

My Imac G5 non intel 20" freezes on startup grey screen and really loud fans start and it won't boot. just have the logo on the grey screen.
I've tried resetting Pram - think that was the right thing to do?
I've tried disk utility, but it won't settle for me to choose the hard drive, it kind of sticks and keeps rotating the wheel.
any ideas anyone?

Lots of things you can try - first, try resetting the SMU. Next, boot from your install disc, go to Disk Utility and try to verify and repair your hard drive. If that doesn't work, try running the Apple Hardware Test on one of your install discs.
Also, depending on which model you have, you may be eligible for Apple's power supply or video and power issues.

Nokia booklet doesnt boot and no bios

Ive bought a new booklet and installed all the updates. While surfing on the internet i suddenly wasnt able to use the keyboard or the touchpad. I wanted to restart but the power button didnt react too. So i took the battery out of the booklet.
But now it doesnt boot and theres a black screen. I cann hear the fan but after a few minutes the booklet turns off aggain. What can i do???

There is no fan, but what you hear might be the hard disk. BTW, does the Booklet/BIOS really not offer an option to boot from SD cards (which has been a common feature for ages on many notebooks featuring such readers), or do they just need to be formatted in some particular/peculiar way? I did see an "Operating System not found" error message when waking up from hibernation while an SD card was plugged in, so under some circumstances it DOES seem to try (and give preference over the hard disk).

Slow boot and no bios screen on first startup of day

I have an hp pavilion HPE, "h8-1080t" that is 3+ years old. I was having problems with my video card and lack of drivers. After researching here and toms hardware I was told a radeon hd 7750 would be a good choice. Which it was. At the time
I also upgraded to a samsung 840 evo @500g.
The system has been running for the past 4 months with boot times of about 15 seconds to desktop.

500gb samsung 840 evo (firmware updated day on installation, approx 4 months ago)

System since than has been booting normally, (about 15 seconds to desktop due to ssd.)

Roughly a month ago I noticed that on the first boot, "in the morning," the display was slow to come up, roughly 1:45 +. It never showed the bios page, and it started taking longer and longer for it to show the windows 8.1 logon.
I than tried a warm reboot and it showed the bios page and reboot took only 15 seconds to desktop. All my programs run quickly and normally. I also shut it down and restarted it with normal results.
The only question is why when I first start the pc in the morning does it take so long before the screen shows anything. the only info I've come up with is from the event log and it as follows. again this only occurs during the first boot of the day, all subsequent
reboots are normal including a complete power off/power on. any ideas would be appreciated. TIA

Did this operating system comes with this PC (OEM)?
Did you also having issue with Windows Genuine?
If yes, maybe graphic card manufactured caused this issue. I suggest contact HP to guide you to troubleshot Hardware issue. Based on my experience, OEM OS will have abnormal behavior since there is replacement CPU, graphic card, memory ect. HP build and
test this PC based on their own specification, check the HW upgrade suggestion at HP site. try to update the driver like CPU and BIOS

Freeze at startup after System and Firmware update - Help!

I took the automated system upgrade last Sunday including updates on a bunch of Apple applications, OS X 10.4.6 (it was included if I recall correctly) and a SMC Firmware update. After downloading all files and installing them my iMac restarted. After that the SMC Firmware upgrade started and I followed the instructions ending in another restart.
This is where my problems began. At this startup I got through the grey screen with the Apple logo and got so far as to the blue screen with the Mac symbol saying something like "starting up". The progress bar started moving and froze after reaching about a fifth of its final length.
As this was a firmware update I didn't want to interrupt anything so I left it for the night (no progress in the morning) and for the next day. Still no progress when I came home from work so I shut it down (pulled the power cord).
Efter this I've tried to fall back using the Firmware Restoration CD available at Apple's support page, but this doesn't work. My iMac refuses to start the installation of the old Firmware even though I follow the fallback instructions. (After starting the computer and keeping the power on button pressed I wait for the front light below the screen to first flash rapidly for a while and then do a SOS (three short, three long and three short blinks). The SOS however, never happens, instead the computer proceeds directly to the grey startup screen before it freezes when it reaches the blue screen.
I have no clue to what to do. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

It is not my intention to be rude, however, it is my intention to be direct. Do you have a G5 or do you have an Intel Core Duo, or perhaps even both? Because right now your signature says you have a G5, which has PPC chips in it made by IBM, not Core Duo chips made by Intel.
The reason I ask is because, just as in another Discussion here in the Intel forum, you are responding to information that appears to not apply to the computer you say you have and you are giving information that, if you have a G5, does not apply to the computers of the folks here in the Intel forum.
Could you please clear that up by correcting your signature so everyone here knows you are comparing oranges with oranges and not mangos with oranges?

As far as the SMC Firmware update and the Firmware Restoration CD, the two items are not related. The Firmware Restoration CD is only for the Firmware Update that came out in mid-April. It is intended for someone whose computer messed up in the application of the Firmware Update and is intended to bring their computer back to its Firmware state prior to the botched Firmware Update. It will not assist you if you had problems applying the SMC Firmware Update from early May.
If I am understanding your description of your Mac's problem it sounds if if you have successfully installed the SMC firmware update, but now have a possible 3rd party satrtupitem that is not allowing your Mac's OS X to fully boot. You can check to see if both the Firmware Update and SMC Firmware Update have been successfully installed by booting your Mac into safe Mode by pressing the "Shift" key during startup. This boot will take longer than normal because it is verifying and repairing your directory. After the desktop appears, go to Apps/Utilities/System Profiler. In the Contents section, highlight Hardware and Hardware Overview should show; Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B03 for the Firmware update and SMC Version: 1.1f5 for the SMC Firmware Update.

Kernel Panics during startups - cannot boot anymore

First: Sorry for my bad english - i hope you still can understand...
The facts:
- MacBook 2,0Ghz - 2gb Ram.
- After 8 weeks --> random shutdowns. In OSX, in Bootcamp, in any application, even during booting OSX
- Replacement of the logic board, after suggested by AppleCare
- After that: OSX instable. Totally. Safari, DVD Player, Firefox, Adium.... any application crashed almost every 5 minutes
- Even sometimes: Kernel Panics. One time even at the login screen
--> I tried a reinstall --> Archive & Install
- DURING the installation of DVD 2 --> Kernel Panic.
- Sucessfully installed OSX in the second try
- OSX seems to run fine - I do the update to .7 trough SoftwareUpdate
- During reboot --> Kernel Panic.
- and now: during EVERY reboot (short after the apple on grey background) a Kernel Panic. I took a picture of that:

Finder Freezes on Startup - Restart Twice and OK - How2fix?

"Avast" is perhaps the worst of the whole wretched lot of commercial "security" products for the Mac. It's worse than the imaginary "viruses" you were worried about when you installed it. Not only does it fail to protect you, it destabilizes and slows down your computer, and it sometimes or always corrupts the network settings and the permissions of files in your home folder. Removing it may not repair all the damage, and neither will Disk Utility or even reinstalling OS X.
Back up all data, then remove "Avast" according to the developer's instructions:
avast! Support Center
Reboot.
If you tried to remove Avast by dragging an application to the Trash, you'll have to reinstall it and follow the instructions linked above.
If you still have problems after following those instructions, post again.

CPUA Fail light comes on then mac freezes. Can still boot and use for a few minutes.

I have a first gen Mac Pro (2006) which has been working fine until a week or two ago. I have this computer set up with boot camp to run both OSX and Windows. I can boot into either os and run for between 2 and 5 minutes before the computer locks up and the fans turn on full blast. Generally when the computer locks up there are some significant graphical artifacts (the GFX output kind of tears horizontally across the screen then stops.).
Due to the graphics issue, I originally thought this might be a problem with my gfx card (ATI Radeon HD 5770). I pulled the side of the case off and booted the computer up. All fans, including that on the GFX card are running normally. What I did notice was that when the computer locked up, two CPUA lights lit up on the mobo. I pulled the gfx card out and booted the computer again. After around 10 minutes the fans switched into high gear, but the problem led did not light up.
Does anyone have any ideas? Since the fans are kicking into high gear after a while even without the gfx card, I don't think the gfx card is necessarily the issue. Would appreciate a second opinion.

AppleCare has long since run out on this unit so I'm more likely to replace it rather than repair. Would the logic board error still let it boot up and function fine for a period of time? Just trying to get a good understanding here before I give up on this computer.

Firefox freezes upon startup, cannot change any settings

Since yesterday my Firefox will not open anymore.
It started with a problem concerning all my browsers; I could open them, click inside them, but whenever I'd start typing anything, they would freeze. I'd get a 'Not Responding' message and I'd have to close the programmes. However, a restart fixed this for Chrome and IE. Firefox got worse after that; whenever I open it now it won't even load, I immediately get a 'Not Responding' message and I'm forced to close the programme. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.
All support articles here suggest clearing cache and all that, but I can't do anything because it just immediately freezes.

There are two things you can try. But first, holding down the shift key
starts Firefox in Safe Mode. This disables all your add-ons and some
settings. If the browser works find in safe mode, then the problem could

to download the latest version of Firefox. DO NOT UPDATE. Get the full
installer. After you download the installer, remove Firefox using the
windows uninstaller. Then run the FF installer you just got. You will

and reset ALL SETTINGS to their default settings. If the problem is
gone, then it was one of the add-ons. Re-install your add-ons only a
few at a time. Close FF, and restart after each group. Good Luck.

You need to contact HP Support and get a service technician to correct your problem. It's hard for me to believe that HP would have replaced the optical drive without ensuring that it worked.

I movie 09 freezing upon startup of progam

I have i movie 09 and have been using it successfully without any problems for over 6 months. During that time, I have been working on a movie. It is currently 45 minutes long and includes sound effects and songs that I have added from garageband. I recently added a voiceover from Garageband, via i tunes and now the whole projects freezes on startup, i cant even access any of the functions.
Could it be:
1.i tunes incompatibility, either i movie or itunes needs an update, or both?
2. Movie is too long?
3. Problem with i movie..
I still have another 30 mins of the movoe to complete and want to be sure that I can continue to edit this film at a later date. I would also like to store it on an external drive, but have read in other posts that this is not as easy as it sounds. Has anyone had the same problem, or can offer any assistance here.
lots of work has gone into this project and would hate to lose it so far into the project.
at the moment, I have not upgraded any program (i movie, i tunes, garageband) in fear of losing any of my projects, should i be fearful.

Z77GD-80 Boot and RAM Problems ( caused by ME Flash Fail )

Hi everyone , i recentlty updated my MB to Bios Version 1.2 and noticed that an option had been added => update bios and ME
tried that option , chosen the same bios file ( 1.2 ) , a warning popup came up that mentioned to not unplug or shutdown the system , the flashing went well until it decided to flash the "ME".
the device rebooted after the the flashing reached 100% ( i think that was when the BIOS flash ended ) ,another flashing started after the Reboot but it did not complete and rebooted @ 60%( ME flash ? ) ! since then i cannot boot using that Bios , the debugger keeps showing error 15 and 19 , going from one to another rapidly .
tried to boot using the second bios ( bios switch ) it did boot fine , but only detects half of my RAM ( 8 G ) tried each MB DIMM and Module separately and all worked fine !
tried to flash the first bios via booting from the second but that didn't work from bios ( strange thing was that when i saved the second bios in USB it was only 6Mb and would not be detected to flash , but my downloaded bios are 8Mb and were available to chose for update )
1-if i try to only flash the bios it restart @ 100 % but then the same debugger error appears after reboot
2-if i try the BIOS and ME , same thing happens it restart @ 60% and the debugger error appears
tried AMI bios flasher for windows , and it did flash the BIOS just fine but when it tries the ME , it keeps erroring that this Bios doesn't support this function
so i had 2 question in mind
1- How can i flash the ME to solve my problems ?
2- why is half of my ram not detected in the second Bios ?

Use the forum flash tool to prepare a usb stick for flashing. Download the attached bios to your desktop and use option 1 of the tool, point the tool at the entire archive. After the flash (It will flash the me as well) do a full cmos clear with the cord removed.
Then re-install the ME drivers inside windows.
In regards to the non working bios, first try a full cmos clear, if that fails:

MY ML 370 server cannot boot from cd rom

i need help on this , my hp sever ML 370 with serail number CZJ93801ZA and product number 487795-421 cannot detect the cd rom, it shows attempting to boot fromcd rom but cannot boot and shows link failure, i tried to change new DVD with SATA cable, but still the same problem, i changed diiferent cd's but still gives me the same error..can anyone help ?

Check master/slave setting and try to change to cable select. Is the CDROM if it is the only device on the IDE cable at the end? Check if CDROM is recognised in the BIOS.
If that is all correct and still no luck try another CDROM drive.

Impossible to access BIOS configuration and boot options

I changed the hard disk after a HDD failure in my Z61m and I'm trying to reinstall Win XP but I cannot boot from CD/DVD. I'm trying to access the BIOS to check if the boot otpion from CD/DVD is enabled. I turn on the PC, hit F1, on the screen appears 'Entering BIOS Setup Utility' but after few seconds the screen becomes black and nothing happens. I tried to hit ESC instead of F1 and a boot screen appears: I can see the RAM check, the HDD is recognized and identified, but then the screen becomes black again. If I hit F1 while the RAM check is running, it appears 'Entering Setup...' but again nothing happens. With F12, it appears 'Preparing Boot Device List' for about 15 seconds and then the screen becomes black as well. The only thing I can do is turn off the PC. So, the situation is: 1) The original HDD failed: I tried it in an external SATA case and it doesn't work. 2) The new hard disk seems to be correctly recognized and identified during initial system checks. 3) The Win XP CD works: I tried it in another notebook and I was able to boot and launch Windows set up. 4) The CD/DVD player spins, its LED lights, it makes the regular sound. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

I tried external monitor but it doesn't work, neither directly connected to VGA on board nor to docking station port. I mean that no images are displayed on external monitor, it stays in stand by mode without receiving any signal. Frankly I remember that on the second monitor the screen appears after Windows boot, but this is the typical thing that you see every days for years but don't care enough to remember exactly when needed
