Freeze at Toshiba logo screen on M35X-S149

My friend's Toshiba M35X-S149 was working just fine until Today. When it's powered up, it comes up to the Toshiba logo screen with "Press [F2] for SETUP, Press [F12] for boot device selection menu" on the left status bar and "phoenix" at the right of status bar, and freezes. Pressing those keys won't respond and just sits there locked up.
I'm a tech, so naturally, disassembled the notbook to look for anything unusual, such as loose connections, bad cables, cold solder joints, etc., but found nothing. It's nice and clean.
Anyone with suggestion?

Hi
It is very suspect if the user is not able to enter BIOS settings. Usually in this case it must be something serious. The only thing that you can try is to remove the battery for a short time and try it again.
If you have disassembled the notebook did you also try to remove CMOS battery?
Sorry but I dont see other solution as to contact Service partner in your country.

  • Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update

    Hi.
Yesterday I did a BIOS update on my Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E-03Z00QGR with the appropriate flash:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&langua ge=17&selOS=10&selType=all&yearupload=&monthupload =&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=userMachines&search =&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguag e=17&type=all&page=1&ID=58477&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42
    bios-20070709111839.zip
After the flashing procedure the machine rebooted automatically, but unfortunately it now keeps hanging at the Thoshiba welcome screen. Also pressing F2 or F12 won't change anything. It seems like the BIOS is corrupt.
I saw, that in the BIOS package are delivered two flash files (s10gm590.rom and s10pm590.rom). But just executing the SanAntonion10 BIOS590MP.exe a .vbs script is started that decides automatically chooses and loads a flash file. Maybe it chose the wrong one?
What shall I do now? Is there a way to restore the BIOS, or do I have to send my notebook in?
    Thanks in advance

    > Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update
What to say Marc. It looks like you have used a wrong BIOS version or you have updated the BIOS in wrong way.
You could try to access the BIOS and try to set the settings to default.
Dont forget to save the settings if you will exit the BIOS.
But if this procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country.
Possibly the guys will try to flash the BIOS again with other special version.
    Good luck

  • Booting Freezes on Gray Logo Screen

After a failed installation of a Lion 10.74 update, my computer freezes on the gray logo screen when booting up.  Does anyone have some commands that may help resolve this issue without completely restoring my systems?

Your directory is corrupted. It could be from a bad block on the hard drive, incorrect shutdown procedure, or even hardware issues (possible but not likely).
You will either have to reinstall (not fun) or purchase a utility like Disk Warrior.
I checked further and found this post on another web site:
DiskWarrior and invalid key length on Mac OS X hard drives
I had a problem where a hard disk of mine wasn't mounting -- it just wouldn't appear in the finder. It did show up in Disk Utility, where it reported that it had an "invalid key length", but Disk Utility would not repair it. I tried to use Tech Tool Pro 3 and Tech Tool Deluxe for OS X, but neither of those would even let me select the volume.
Some searching on the web suggested DiskWarrior. It retails for about $100, but I was able to get it on a special for $80. I ran it, it found the volume, and fixed it right up. I highly recommend the program to anyone with an invalid key length error.

  • NB200 freezes at Toshiba splash screen.

    Hi,
I have an NB200-11L that's been sitting around with an annoying problem for a while now.
When I power on the laptop it freezes at the 'Toshiba - leading innovation' BIOS splash screen and goes no further.
I get the same problem with or without AC power
I've tried replacing the HDD but still get the problem.
With no HDD in the system it tries to boot from the network & also allows me access to the BIOS (currently version 1.20)
Anyone else had issues like this & been able to resolve it ?
    Thanks in advance :)
    Chris

Few days ago I saw the same problem on my friends Satellite A205 (US model). After removing HDD I was able to enter BIOS settings.
Ive set BIOS to default settings, replaced the HDD with new one and now everything works perfectly.
HDD was defective and obviously HDD identification by BIOS has blocked the whole system.
I recommend you to obtain new HDD and do the same.

  • IPOD touch freezes on Apple logo screen

I already know how to restore it, I've done it a dozen times last week. I am just tired of it. Does anyone know how to resolve this? When restoring, I have alternately tried both the "Restore as New" and "Restore from backup" options .. and also have tried deleting past copies .. no matter what, it still freezes a lot. I am awaiting an email reply from Apple but does anyone know if Apple is doing anything to fix this problem? Do they even acknowledge the problem? Is there a phone number to successfully contact Apple, because when I called (the Apple store), I was told to write them an email about the problem.
Some background info which may or may not be useful:
I have a 16 G Itouch and the 1st time it froze was during the play of the App game "Diamond Twister". The freezes now occur at random.
    Thanks for anyone's help.

hold the power and home key for 10 seconds until the ipod is powered off.
plug in the usb cord into the computer WITHOUT the ipod
then while connecting the ipod, hold down the home button until the itunes connect logo appears on the ipods screen
then in itunes it will telll u to restore
restore and set up as a NEW ipod and it should be fixed DONT RESTORE FROM A BACKUP.

  • Satellite Pro A300-1G0 - Freezes at startup splash screen

Running Windows 7, the laptop sometimes does not proceed further than the Toshiba screen, you can't even get into the BIOS. I have tried updating the BIOS, but with no change.
It only exhibts this behaviour 1 in 5 reboots. The only resolution is to hold down the power button to turn off, then remove the battery to perform a hard reset.
Any solution would be gratefully received.
I think it was working fine even since a Windows 7 upgrade, so I'm not sure that is relevant.
    Peter

    Hi buddy,
If your notebook freezes during Toshiba BIOS screen it has nothing to do with the installed software and OS. After you turn on your notebook it makes a power on self test (POST) so it seems to be a hardware malfunction that your notebook hangs there.
Have you connected any external devices to your notebook like printer, external HDD, etc. If yes, remove them and test it again.
In worst case you need help from an authorized service provider. The guys can check this and replace the faulty hardware.

  • Freeze at logo screen: disk0s2: media is not present

    Hi everybody!
I know this question has already been asked, but I read all the subjects I could find about my problem and I didn't find a solution. (Sorry for my english, also, I speak French )
So here is my problem: since yesterday, my MBP won't start. It freezes at the grey apple logo screen and I can't figure out why.
This happened when my computer asked to restart for an update. I haven't installed anything new and my laptop worked fine until that update.
I'm on Leopard (but I can't really tell you which version because my laptop won't start... but I keep it updated) and I have a bootcamp with windows 7 that works fine (I just can't find my documents on the mac partition (university stuff, so quite important!)).
So, at first, I read that I had to use cmd+v to see what was happening. I tried it, and my mbp juste kept saying "disk0s2: media not present".
I looked for that on the forums, and I read about trying to use the DVD, but the problem is that i don't have it. So in some posts, I read I had to use cmd+s and then type fsck -yf, let it run, then type exit.
Now, I'm there: I used the cmd+s etc, and when I type exit, after letting it run fsck -yf, it keeps trying stuff, and saying
" disk0s2: I/O error. "  then checking the ethernet address, then doing some other stuff that i don't really understand.
I've already checked for the I/O error, but I didn't find anything helpful.
    Help??

The internal hard drive has failed, or you have some other hardware fault. Take it to an Apple Store for repair.

  • HT201412 my iphone is not turning on its freeze on the black screen with the apple logo. Please help me guys iam fed up please its a humble request

my iphone is not turning on its freeze on the black screen with the apple

    - Try a reset.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then connect to your computer and try to restore.
    - See if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - If the logo still show all the time, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try the above again.

  • My HP Pavilion Desktop freezes at the HP Invent Logo screen and does not load up BIOS

    Hi,
This is the first time this has ever happened to me.  What I mean is that I could not open the set up (F10) to change my boot order in the BIOS screen.  When I turn on my desktop it stays on the blue HP Invent logo screen and when I try pressing esc, F9, F10, or F11, it says entering that specific mode but hangs there and nothing happens.  I have searched the internet and forums and could not find a positive solution to try to at least having my computer to get into BIOS or even load into windows.
    I have a HP Pavilion a6642p Desktop.
    Windows 7
Bought it in 2010 and was working fine when I last used it.
I have tried cleaning my computer, Unplugging my cords and replugging after a set amount of time, removing my battery for 30 seconds, draining my power, unplugging my hard drive and turning it on like that lets me run from CD because there isn't a hard drive, but I can't do anything else even if I put in a Windows 7 CD to try and reset my computer, but I can't because there isn't a partition to be located.  I have no idea what to do and have been trying for the past 5 days non-stop. :[
If there's any other information you need please let me know.
I can also show some photos if what I mean when it freezes on Logo screen and BIOS doesn't load.

It sounds like the hard drive has failed. A bad hdd can prevent a boot up or ability to enter BIOS.Since you are able to boot from a cd with hdd unplugged that seems to implicate the hdd even more. And the fact that Windows 7 dvd doesn't see a partition to install on. Replace the hdd with a new one of comparable size, boot with your Recovery Disks to reinstall back to factory.

  • Satellite M35X-S109: Toshiba welcome screen comes after 13mins

    Hello,
My toshiba laptop starts up in 15mins and i am very unhappy for that reason. Problem is when i try to open my laptop power button gets blue and fan is working but Toshiba welcome screen comes in 13mins. and windows opens normally in 1.5mins and after that computer works very fine. Has anyone know the reason why Toshiba welcome screen comes very late. In my opinion it is not a hardware problem could be something else.
Please help me. I really need a support.
    Model: M35X-S109
    OS: Windows XP Prof. SP2
    Thanks...

    Hi
I agree with Lucky. Before Toshiba screen will pass the notebook checks the hardware functionality.
This is not a software issue. As mentioned you can try to update the BIOS but please be careful. If the BIOS update will nothing change then I would recommend checking the memory modules. Please remove one module for checking the second module.

My Pod lately has been going very slow but doesn't have very much Apps or music in it & today it just freezer on my games and then it went onto a white screen then the black Apple logo screen. It's been doing this for a month already. Should I bring it in ?

  • My computer freezes on the HP logo screen can someone help me fix? (details inside)

ok so i wiped my Drive clean because it had some nasty malware on it. i had some stuff backed up on a different drive which i installed an operating system on. after i wiped the first drive clean and tried to boot up the system it wouldnt boot anymore. after installing a portable OS on a flash drive i was able to get the computer to load up and i checked and reallocated the drive that was wiped so it could be used again. then i put in my system recovery disks in to install vista back on to the drive but during the recovery my computer got the blue screen. since then i cant do anything with my computer i have tried changing drives and using the USB to run an OS but it wont work it always gets stuck at the HP logo screen. is there any way to fix this?

    Hi,
First try to boot up without connecting the USB device. Remove any type of external storage devices if connected and check..
If that doesnt help you can follow the steps from the link below and check if it helps..
Computer Does Not Start (Windows Vista)
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 stuck on toshiba logo after bios change

My Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 is stuck on toshiba logo after bios change.
entered bios fine changes from UEFI to CSM boot and now i cannot enter bios or boot past toshiba logo.
Ive tried F2 tapping and holding while powering up the laptop(tried every Fkey,DEL,ESC, with and without FN key)
    cannot re-enter bios.
Also i tried to run the bios update cd created multiple  1.50 1.40 even 1.00, it doesnt seem to read any media.
i tried holding C, FN+C and f and just about every key on the keyboard to get something to work. i had dvd as top of boot priority for a while now so i shouldnt have to try f12 or holding C before boot but i tried . it doesnt seem to read any media
i tried windows 8 install cd, Ubuntu, centos, nothing goes past toshiba logo and no errors, i dont get the non bootable device error so its seems to not be reading the dvd. (dvd does spin and make read noises) im trying to find my usb floppy drive to try a floppy version but it acts like its not reading any media.
I also pulled the HDD and all usb devices to make the dvd the only media available and with the HDD out it spins then toshiba logo then black screen with solid white  horizontal curser on top left of screen.(only happens when hdd out)
is there some type of key combination that will force a bios update or a crisis recovery mode for bios.
I also Pulled the battery for 2 solid days(battery, cmos battery, and power supply and held power button for about 10 mins while watching tx to make sure the thing was drained before the 2 day sit with no power at all.
this happened the second i changed from UEFI to CSM boot so its not a motherboard problem or anything like that because all was well before this setting change.
I already pulled the HDD and backed it up to another drive and swapped it to elimiate that.
any ideas on a secret key combo to force a bios read from dvd or usb or anythng.
or another combo that im just missing to enter bios after CSM boot.
    UPDATE
to do a crisis recovery on this laptop
1 get a usb stick and format it in fat or fat32
2 download "7zip" and install it if you dont have it.
3 download bios from toshiba website.
4 run the installer for bios but dont choose and option just close it we just want to extract the files to the location normally  c:\splnvxxx where xxx is the version number like 150
5 goto the installed locaion "c:\splnv150" or whatever number.
    6. find file os2014273a_150 or something similar. it will be an application, it will end in version number _150, and it will also have a disc image file of the same name. but we want the app.
    7. right click on it and you should have an option 7zip then extract
once extracted there is a folder now archesxxxxxx_bios_v150_win
8 copy the bios file located in archesxxxxxblahblah/X64/BIOS.fd , BIOS.fd is the bios and just copy that to a BLANK usb thumb drive that was formatted with fat or fat32.
    9. put usb into your satellite and unplug the power from it.
10 holding FN + ESC key together plug the power back in and press power button.
    11. release keys FN and ESC if all is right it will have the power button and led on from blink abut every 1 second while it searches for the bios. once its done it will reboot and you should be good to go.
if it keeps cycling with the power button then the bios is named wrong or something is not right with the usb. try reformatting it again and make sure that the bios file is the ONLY thing on the drive.

Ok a little research and digging into the bios exe downloaded from toshiba shows this has INSYDE BIOS witch should have a recovery process wich i prepared a usb stick with just the bios.fd on it found some post around toshiba forums with different models using win +B or Fn + F but neither of these worked for me to force bios update
anyone with this model know the key combo to force recovery

  • Toshiba Satellite stuck at Toshiba splash screen.

My computer has been fine for roughly 5 years. Today, when I plugged in a USB stick, it started hitting me with endless "N:\ cannot be found" type messages. I went down to my taskbar, disengaged the usb stick, unplugged, it and restarted my laptop. It is now stuck at the Toshiba splash screen.
    I have tried:
    - Taking out battery, holding power button, returning battery, and powering up.
    - Entering BIOS (won't work - just beeps and freezes)
    - Entering boot menu (won't work)
    - Booting from Windows CD (just stays at Toshiba screen)
    - Booting from a Live Linux CD (same, just won't...)
I am officially out of ideas and on the verge of just putting the HDD into a case and drawing files from it using a different comp. Any last suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the HDD is not the cause. In fact, it's now being used on another machine and is working perfectly. The computer does this even with other drives in it, and without a HDD at all (when it should at least go past the splash screen and say no drive or OS is found).
I still cannot get into BIOS or the boot menu, and it won't boot from a CD or USB drive. I wanted to try resetting the BIOS by reseating the CMOS battery, but it's soldered down and I don't want to risk trying to drain it with wires (a common resort that risks hurting the mobo).
I think I amy try taking it to some awful repair shop before giving up. Any other thoughts?

  • Single-User Mode Copying Files/System Does not Boot Past Apple Logo Screen

I have a Macbook 2.0GHZ, 2GB RAM, that recently tried to download a secuirty and keynot update. Following the download the system will no longer boot past the Apple Logo Screen with the spinning wheel. I do not have access to a OS disk yet or to a firewire cable either. I've have seen posts from others that describe how to use traget disk mode to reinstall the secuirty update manually and then they can boot their computer. Safe mode will not work. I did boot into single-user mode and run the disk utility there and it says my HD is OK. Since I do not have a firewire or an OS Disk, I am wondering if there is a way to copy those files i need to a USB pen stick then install them onto the computer via single-user mode, considering this is the only way I can boot and manipulate the machine at this time. If this is not possible please let me know so I can find a way to scrounge up a firewire cable or disk. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
    Ted K

Thanks to Limnos and BDAqua I know you guys have helped others with these kind of problems from the other posts I read. I just want to list what I did exactly in case anyone wants to try to do this with a usb drive or does not have access to a boot disk or firewire cable.
1: Install security update on a pen drive
2: Boot in single user mode, CMD-S on startup
    3: /sbin/mount -uw /
4: mkdir /Volumes/usb (usb can be any name, name of usb drive or anything you want)
5: ls /dev (you need to get the drive listing for the usb drive to mount it appropriately, it should be disk#s# but this is close to what the HD and Cd drives are listed as so you may need to list once before you put the usb stick in and once ater. I had issues inserting the usb drive in single-user mode and it would freeze up the root drive)
6: /sbin/mount_msdos /dev/disk1s1 /Volumes/usb (this mounts the usb drive, i had to use msdos because of how my usb drive was formatted, you may need to check your usb drive format, hfs is the apple format for usb drives but it did not work for me)
7: cp /Volumes/usb/SecUpd2009-001Intel.dmg (this copies the files from the usb drive to the root drivel, at this point you no longer need the usb drive)
8: hdiutil mount /SecUpd2009-001Intel.dmg (this mounts the disk image)
9: cd /Volumes/"Security Update 2009-001" (after i mounted the image this is how it appeared in the Volumes directory, you might need to do ls /Volumes to get the name, the quotes are important to get the whole file directory changed)
10: installer -pkg SecUpd2009-001Intel.pkg -target / (this installs the acutal update, i used the SecUpd2009-001Intel.pkg and it worked though I think you might be able to use "Security Update 2009-001" with quotes as well.)
    11: reboot
i hope this helps anyone looking to do this. Thanks again to those who helpes and all the other posts that had information that helped me identify and then fix my issue! I still love my mac.
