Freeze during update

Regarding my iPad2 32 wifi - 3G.
During update of system iOS files today (approx 650mb), there popped up an error message in iTunes saying something like (error during update, and some more info i didnt see) before it left the screen. Now my ipad is lokced, only a black screen with the apple and a line under it. It is not possible to reboot or turn of the iPad. Any idea of what i have to do next?

Click on "Finder" (the first icon on the dock at the bottom, looks like a smiley face)
Select "Applications" on the left side of the Finder window
Scroll down to the bottom and then open up the "Utilities" folder
Up towards the top is "Disk Utility". Double click it to start it
On the left of its window is your hard disk, probably called "Macintosh HD". Single click that
Now you have some buttons to do a "Verify Disk" and a "Verify Disk Permissions".
Try both of them and report back

  • Apps freeze during update in iOS 8.02

After updating to 8.02 I am having my ipad freeze during the app update process.  I get the circle but the ring fails to show any download progress. If I touch the circle it returns to the update button?  This on a new iPad air

Close the App Store app and reset your iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If those things made no difference, try this. Reset all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

  • Clicking noise and freezing during updating

Hello everyone, if anyone could help with the following problem i'd be more than grateful. my ipod recently wouldnt connect to windows and started making a clicking noise. to try an resolve this i have reset and restored. I thought this would solve the problem. However, when ipod is updating it seems to freeze, stop updating and clicking noise starts. the following message appears
the specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired.
the only way i can disconnect is to shut the computer down. My playlists appear but with no songs.
this is my 2nd ipod (clicking noise also happened so ipod was replaced in warranty) which is now out of warranty. I think my hard drive might be giving up? These discussions are my last hope! Do I buy a new ipod (possibly for the same thing to happen)? or is it worth getting it serviced? Does anyone out there have any ideas?

Even i have a Ipod with a click wheel and is behaving similarly.
Once i connect it to the PC (using USB) it shows the "Do Not Disconnect" sign forever and even iTunes does not recognize it, the hard disk is making some clicking noise and after some time windows returns timeout error "The specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired" !!
I think we are in the same boat, What do we do ???
    Thanks

  • Itunes freezes during update library after 7.3 upgrade

When starting iTunes, it immediately begins to update the library and freezes about half way through. This is after I updated from 7.2 to 7.3. I have a LOT of songs and I'd rather not uninstall iTunes.
Anyone know what's wrong here? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

There have been multiple posts on this topic. If you're interested, try searching the forums. (Maybe someone has a better answer than me). Here's my latest post:
My understanding is that there's a corrupt file in the library that's causing this problem--either a podcast or a video. You can search these forums for other threads on this subject.
From what I've read, you need to figure out which file is causing the hang and remove it (easier said than done).
One thing you can try is to pull all of the podcast and/or video files (you could try one or the other first, too.) out of your iTunes folder before you try to launch iTunes. Leave them on your desktop.
If iTunes launches successfully, then you can slowly try to add these files back to your iTunes folder to find out which one causes the hang.
Not ideal advice, I know. But it may be a way to get iTunes back up and running again.

  • Brand New MacBook freeze during updates.

    Hello everyone,
I bought a macBook about a month ago and everything was going perfectly well until the first update notification came out. Indeed, even after letting my MacBook on all the night, the updates were still on "initializing updates" the next morning.
I noticed it happens only for Mac OS X update (10.5.4). Indeed all others updates as itunes for exemple seem to work well. Anyone has an idea on how to fix it ?

    Thanks for your help.
I actually found the answer on this topic:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7630125#7630125
Someona had the same problem than me. The file was corrupted i just had to download it manually.
Thanks again i love my macbook and my problem is solved. Cheer!

  • HT1551 Apple TV freezes during updates

My Apple TV froze while updating. What do I do?

You can't do much else besides pull the plug. If it causes further problems you should be able to restore as below:
Get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
On the other hand you may be able to simply start the update again.

  • Windows freezes during update

Using Windows update, Windows gets stuck on the "Shutting Down" screen after "Installing update 4 of 4".

I can tell you my experience with this and how I resolved it. I happen to be on here precisely because of this problem. It appears to me that bootcamp 3.1 is incompatible with Windows XP. What happened to me when I upgraded was that the display would only function at a screen resolution of 640x480 and not even correctly: it only showed one quarter of the full normal 1440x900 resolution. This article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3619 shows you how to roll back bootcamp 3.1 to 3.0 using the mac os x install DVD on windows xp boot.
I have been using bootcamp 3.0 ever since with no problems at all running windows xp home. By the way, unless you need windows xp pro to work at a company with a large IT department, there's no advantage to using at as an independent user. In fact, it consumes huge resources on your computer adversely affecting overall performance and experience. FYI.
Other than that I have been looking on here to find out if apple has made any fixes to 3.1 regarding this issue as I keep getting requests to update from the automatic software update app that keeps popping up.
So, if any of you apple gurus see this, please keep us apprised as to this issue.
    Thanks

  • My 4th gen ipod won't backup after it froze during a software update to 4.3.5. I had to cancel the backup at the start of the update and now it won't let me backup to my computer, freezes during backup or says my backup is corrupted.

I pressed 'X' during a backup after it froze during an update to software 4.3.5 and now it won't let me backup on my computer. Does anyone have any ideas? It either freezes during backup or says my 'backup is corrupted' or 'I cannot backup on my computer'. I have had to abort quite a few attempted backups since the initial problem, which I think has made it worse. I have already tried restoring my ipod, deleting the aborted backup from my preferences/devices in itunes and deleting it from my user/appdata/etc on my PC hard drive. Any ideas what to try next?

After hours of frustration I eventually decided to restore. I lost my apps, but i didn't have many and was able to reinstall them for free. During the restore it updated my ipod to the latest software 4.3.5, which i think may have caused the initial problem, but the backup issue remains. Sometimes it stops me from syncing and other times it allows me to skip the backup, but still says that i can't backup on my computer. I'm worried that it has done something to my computer as it took me six hours to do a Bullguard scan, which only normally takes about an hour. The scan didn't come up with any viruses, but it stalled at system32 for ages. The only other thing that i can think of is that a demo CD I uploaded may have caused a problem. iTunes couldn't find a track listing for it but gave me a few different options. i thought I had to choose one to continue, so did that then changed the track details to the correct tracks. I'm now worried that may have introduced an issue or caused a glitch in iTunes. How paranoid am I sounding?

  • Freeze during startup after SW update from 10.4 - 10.4.8

After updating to 10.4.8, my machine would freeze during startup (at the gray screen with the apple and spinner) and give me the "Please restart your computer" message in a few languages.
I thought it might be a RAM issue, so I removed all third party RAM - same problem.
I replaced all of the RAM with RAM from another G5 that I know worked - same problem
I moved the HD from my G5 to another G5 that was working - same problem (I believe that eliminates the motherboard and any other components from being the problem).
I thought that the HD might be bad, so I replaced it with a brand new SATA drive, installed 10.4 and it worked perfectly, ran all of the SW updates (including the combined 10.4.8 update) and I get the same freezing again when I reboot.
    Any suggestions are appriciated!

    Hi Joe,
Welcome to the only place where you can get friendly advice.
Ok have you tried starting up from the installer / restore CD that came with the mac and run disk utility??
Try hardware test doing the extended test in a loop to try and find the base of the Kernel panic (thats what the "you need to restart your computer" image indicates)
For info and guidance on Kernel panics see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227
    and trouble shooting info:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25392
for extensive advice on solving the kernel panics see:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
Worst case senario it could be the G5 processors, make sure you have applecare; just in case it gets expensive!!

  • Server 2012 freezes during setup at the "installing updates" step

I'm trying to install server 2012 standard on an IBM blade HS22V "7871".  Server has SAN attached storage.  Server freezes during installation setup at the "installing updates" step.  I have tried install booting off of
a USB drive and DVD drive with the same results.

Im unable to boot in safemode because windows has not completed the OS install.  The install is stuck in the setup at the installing updates step.  It will sit there for days or until you crash the server.  This is what I have done so far:
installed 2008r2 on the same LUN/SAN without issue
Updated Blade to the latest BIOS/Firmware.
Using the most current IBM ServerGuide "9.51" for hardware drivers.
Attempted install in both UEFI and Legacy mode
Attempted 3 separate install medias "cd and usb"made from ISO not cd copy
Verified we only have 1 LUN 1 Volume Group and 1 Path
Attempted 4 different blades and 3 different chassis. Same results.
We have a HP/3Par T400 SAN that I can successfully install server 2012 on.  This is our old Test SAN.  We  have our new 3par 7400 SAN that is now our production SAN that we are unable to build server2012 on.

  • Can I update OS X if my 2011 GPU failing Macbook usually freezes during start up?

I have 2011 Macbook Pro (one of those that usually freezes during booting due to GPU failure). My Macbook will only boot if the GPU doesn't kick in during the start up. (When I'm very lucky the computer will get to the desktop and I can disable the GPU with gfxCardStatus). Sometimes I can boot the machine if I wrap it in a blanket to overheat it. Then it won't activate the GPU during booting if I'm lucky.
This is my question: Can I update my OS X if I maybe have to reboot a frozen machine 50 times before I reach the desktop? This would very probably mean that the OS would install and then ask for a reboot. And then I would maybe have to power off and retry to reboot many many times. Would this FUBAR the system. or would it work when I finally got it up and running?
I guess the REAL question is: Is the update installed 100% BEFORE the reboot, or are some of the updates installed AFTER the reboot? If that is the case, I would think it would have an effect if I had to power down the machine 50 times to get that one "lucky" reboot?

Thank you for replying! Is there any way to confirm this?

  • Zen Micro Freezes during play and sometimes won't turn on at

I have been having some issues with my micro and wondered if anyone could help. I didn't drop it or do anything I can recall to cause these issues, it just seemed to start out of the blue. 2 things are happening. Sometimes it will freeze during play and "buzz" (it's really just transmitting a countinuous sound of a millisecond of what it was playing like if the guy was saying apple, and it freezes when he starts to say it it will sound like "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" but in a completely illegible buzz way). Second, it will sometimes not turn on at all, no creative logo, no lights, no nothing. Once I take out the battery and replace it, it will always then start no problem. The battery does not seem to be loose at all as the above mentioned buzzin will not stop until I remove the battery, and as I have repeatedly removed the back of the micro during these buzz session?the battery remains firmly seated and the buzzing continues until I remove it. So far I have updated the firmware to 2.2.02 (which I believe reformatted) which didn't stop it from freezing up during play, and just now did a disk clean up (which I can't imagine will have any change?if a complete format didn't). I haven't had the start up problem since the firmware update, but I haven't turned it on and off that many times yet. Any ideas? Sorry to be so verbose but I wanted to explain as best as I could what's wrong, and what I've done so far.

Remove SIM and miniSD card first. Try to boot.
The try hooking it up to the PC again. And see if you might be able to redo the update process.
You can also try a hard reset. As described in a different tread. (Or read below).
Othervise, I afraid you will have to take it to a Service Center.
    -- Quote from djassa1 (Re: N80 won't start up!)--
    Just reset to factory default.
You will need your 2 hands to do that: While the phone is off press and hold the [Green call Button] + [3 digit button] + [* button] and power on and hold the powwer button. Do that until the phone asks you for the local city reference.
    -- End Quote --
    Best of luck!

  • Time Machine Freezes During Initial Backup

I have a 500gb external Western Digital HDD I am trying to use as my Time Machine backup drive. The computer I'm using is a 24" iMac with about 250gb of data on it. The external drive is partitioned as a GUID / Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
When I try to run the initial backup, it will randomly freeze during the process. Sometimes it gets halfway through the backup and freezes, other times, right away. Sometimes there is an error, other times there isn't.
I have tried re-partitioning the drive many times, manually starting the backup and also letting the backup start on its own. All of my applications are closed when the backup begins, but no matter what I do, I cannot get the initial backup process to complete.
Ironically, I had the same problem on ANOTHER iMac of mine, with the same model Western Digital drive. The backup would freeze randomly during the initial process but I would keep manually re-starting the backup until it magically finished the backup. Now that computer seems to be working fine.
However, I still can't get this other iMac to work. I find it strange that two separate computers with two separate 500gb Western Digital drives would have the same problem with Time Machine, unless the problem is with Time Machine itself.
Any ideas out there how to resolve this?

Why do you assume it's TM, not WD?
    There are many possibilities.
Did you completely erase the drive before formatting it? Sometimes the utilities, etc., that come on new drives can interfere with TM.
Is your iMac an Intel? If it's an older PPC, you need the Apple Partition Map, not GUID.
Is this USB or FireWire? USB is often much slower and less reliable.
If it's USB, does it have it's own power, or does it draw from your Mac? Often there's just barely enough to run a drive; if you have another USB peripheral, it can take enough power to interfere with the disk.
Does it have an automatic "spin down" feature? If so, can you disable it?
Does it have the latest updates? I thing I saw a post here recently that a WD update fixed, but I can't find it now.
Are you running any anti-virus scanning? If so, exclude your TM drive from it.
Sometimes excluding it from Spotlight as well, at least during a large initial backup, can prevent conflicts between TM and Spotlight.

  • Installing Leopard freezes during installation..

    hi.
im updating my old tiger powermac to leopard and its freezing during installation..
i cant take the disc out and try the original discs as it seems like it needs the disc to boot from.
ive held down the space bar but it doesnt eject.
    any ideas?
    thanks

    hi.
i have both discs (leopard and snow leopard as retail)...
at the moment it wont start in safe mode... it just doesnt startup and until i take my finger off shift it wont go anywhere other than the white apple screen.
i have tried dragging the install disc using disc utility to the macHD and erase the destination... now all it has done is create a clone of the install disc on the internal HD.
I put my other mac in target disc mode with the snow leopard disc in and tried to use startup disc to restart from it but it didnt show up as available... so im stuck...
i cant eject the disc, its not installing properly and my internal HD isnt bootable...
    any ideas?
