Is it a freeze frame from your footage? You'll need to put a deinterlace filter on it I should think.

  • Freeze Frames flicker after making DVD

    Hi,
I'm new to FCE. Actually, I'm new to video.
I've created a movie using quite a few "freeze frames". I've converted the finished FCE movie to a self-contained QuickTime movie. I used that file to create a dvd using iDVD.
My movie is perfect and the quality is very good. My problem is that 2 of my freeze frames flicker when I watch the dvd (they each appear for about 5 seconds). When I watch the QuickTime movie those two frames don't flicker but have what appears to be "interlace" horizontal lines.
When I selected my freeze frame images from the video I tried to pick the cleanest frames. They look fine in FCE.
All my video is from old 8mm film that was professionally converted to digital format.
Can anyone tell me why the frames flicker and how can I fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Maggie

Stills from interlaced video require de-interlacing with the De-Interlace filter.
    FCE has a De-Interlace filter.
A frame of interlaced video consists of two fields that are not exactly the same. The flicker seen is the difference in *time and space* between the two fields.

  • Freeze Frame Jittery in DVD

I did a freeze-frame on the last frame of a video segment. I saved the frame as the default .bmp format. I then made it 7 seconds in length with a fade-out.
My problem is that when burned to a DVD, instead of being solid, the freeze frame jitters badly.
It seems smooth in PRE (v7). It seems smooth when I play the exported .AVI in Windows Media Player (although it looks all interlace-y). I was going to try "Frame Blend", which fixes some jitters on time-stretched video, but that option is grayed out for stills.
Is there something I can do to prevent the jitter? It really ruins the effect I was going for!

Well, good news! I got it working. My freeze frame is now rock-solid!!
I did the Flicker Removal - that's a good tip to know. It's now on my "cheat sheet".
One odd thing I noticed was when I opened the "freeze frame" .BMP that PRE had generated, the .BMP itself had interlace lines in it!  Obviously I didn't want that, so I did the freeze frame again. But this time, the exported .BMP was fine (no interlace lines).
I don't think I did anything differently. About the only thing I can think of is that currently the clip is Time Stretched and Frame > Blended. Maybe when I did the original freeze frame (that gave me an interlaced .BMP) it was either not Time Stretched and/or not Frame > Blended?

  • Unable to change Still/Freeze Frame Duration in User Pref Edit tab

Process-selected new project, change Still/Freeze Frame Duration in user preferences on the edit tab.
Need to change to 10 minutes. Typed in the field 00:10:00:00. When I hit ok, I get a beep and it defaults back to what was in there, 01:00:00:00. So tried a larger number 02:00:00:00. Same result. A beep.
So went ahead with project and opened a sequence and tried to change it from the viewer. Same issue.
Trashed prefs and started from scratch. Same issue.
    Ideas?

    Trashed prefs rebooted originally.
Process as follows for trashing prefs. First time through I had opened a project. This time did not.
    Open Home Folder
    Open Library
    Open Preferences
    Delete com.apple.finalcutpro.plist
Open Final Cut Pro User Data
Delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    Delete Final Cut Obj Cache
    Delete Final Cut Prof Cache
Run disk utility to repair permissions.
    Reboot.
Did not open a project this time.
Same issue but now I am able to put a slug in the time line and by selecting clip properties, can set the duration (was not able to do this before so some progress). Still can't set duration though as earlier described from edit tab on the user preferences page for still/freeze duration.

  • I wish to export several still images from iMovie as JPEG or TIFF. Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to add a freeze frame to extract the desired frame but I can't export it. Thanks.

I wish to export several frames from iMovie as if they were images (like JPEGs or TIFFs). Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to 'add a freeze frame' to isolate the desired frames but I can't export it. Thanks.

Ach... I found a solution thanks to previous posts which came to light after I'd posted what was obviously a question that had been asked before.

  • How do I export a freeze frame in CS4?

There's no longer an "Export/Frame" menu option in CS4 (as there was in CS3).
How can I export a simple freeze frame from Premiere into another editing program, such as Photoshop?
    Thanks.

I've torn out half my hair trying to answer the same question.  I think I have an answer and it had nothing to do with the many hours I've spent in Adobe's help and Forum to get an answer.  I had to figure it out myself.
Here it is:  Because CS4 handles HD video, they don't export straight to JPEG.  They export to TIFF which is higher resolution than JPEG.  That's my guess, anyway.  To export a frame grab, go to FILE>EXPORT>MEDIA.  On the top right side of the window in the Format box, click the down arrow to open the list and select TIFF.  Click Okay.
Another box will open up.  This is the Adobe Media Encoder window.  Yeah it's new to me too.
The file you are trying to export should show up in the box with all it's wonderful detail including where you want it to go.  If you want to change the name of the exported frame, click on the 'Output File' portion of the detail and a 'Save As' window will pop up and you can rename the file.  Otherwise, CS4 will give it a generic name for you and you'll have to go find it.
When you get done click 'Okay' and it takes you back to the Media Encoder window.  From there click on 'Start Que' and the file gets saved.  Click on the upper right X and the Media Encoder window closes.  There is no 'Done' or 'Close' button that I can find.
Somehow I got my file to save as a JPEG the first time but I'm unable to duplicate my steps now, so just know that it can be done and be willing to experiment a little from here.  If you click on Add, it offers the JPEG format but it's trying to OPEN a file instead of SAVE.  I'll have to keep working on that part.
I hope this helps.  These turkeys at Adobe should hire me as a troubleshooter and manual writer - I spend a lot of time trying to figure out things they don't document in the manual or help files.  As for the Forum - they can stuff that, it's useless.   This should be an exquisitely simple task - we all do frame grabs.  But they've made it into a monstrous chore.

  • How do I move a freeze frame from iMovie 11 as a photo into iPhoto?

In prior versions of iMovie, I could isolate a freeze frame or still from the movie clip and then move it somewhere and it would become a regular photo to be manipulated in iPhoto.  How do I do that in iMovie 11?

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.

  • Trouble with making a freeze frame?

    Hello All,
I need some help with something I'm trying to do.  I have a short clip in my timeline that I have color corrected and added some filters to.  Then I move the playhead around until I find a still picture that I like and then I go to Modify>Make Freeze Frame and then I move the still from the viewer over to the section that hold all the files.  The trouble is that when I make the freeze frame FCE is giving the version before I did color correction or adding the filters.  How do I get to make a freeze frame that has been color corrected?  It's showing me the raw version before I've done anything to it.
    Thanks for your help.
    MIke

When the freeze frame is created in FCE, it is only from the master clip (with no filters applied).  Simply drag the filters that you applied to the clip to the new freeze frame.  The filters will be applied with the settings you made.

  • Freeze Frame not working

I'm using iMovie 10.0.3. When I try to do a freeze frame of a clip, it just creates a black clip.

Did you place the playhead on the frame of the clip you wanted as a freeze frame and option F on the keyboard or freeze frame in the modify menu? If that gives you a black frame it could be a media problem or an iMovie problem. What's the parameters of the clip? You can open the clip in Quicktime and look in the Inspector window to see the properties.

  • Make freeze frame without blur on motion

I want to make freeze frame on video but the problem is sign language signing make blur motion. I need to get sharp clear make freeze frame. Is there a way that can make sharp to make it freeze frame.
    video clip is 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Make freeze frame is for book so need to make motion clear? How?

Then there's not much you can do now.  It would have helped a little if you'd have used a high shutter speed on the video camera, but that's water under the bridge.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to find another frame where the hand wasn't moving then export both frames as s till image.  Open both in Photoshop and make a selection of the hand then copy that to the first still.

  • I'm getting wavy lines on my freeze frame

I've made a freeze frame of a shot looking through an open door. The door frame is in shot. I have added a slow zoom to the freeze frame using motion. As it zooms in the straight lines of the door frame start to go wavy.
    What's going on?

That is interlacing. Go to the VIDEO FILTERS>VIDEO and add the DEINTERLACE filter to that.

  • Make transition last full duration of freeze frame?

Hi, so in an iMovie that I'm editing, the opening shot is a freeze frame of an image for 2.9 seconds. What I'd like to do is have this image fade in with a cross dissolve for the full 2.9 seconds. However, when I add the transition, I can't make it last for the full time. The highest it will go is 1.4 seconds, and it adjusts the length of my freeze frame to 1.5 seconds (thus equaling 2.9 seconds in total). Is this possible to do, and if so how can I accomplish it?
    Thanks,
    KiSS

    Hi CoDEFRo,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. I'm not sure if these will answer your direct question, but if you are talking about the overlap when working with the transition, you may find the following articles helpful:

  • 16:9 Freeze frame

    how to 16:9 Freeze Frame?
It have 16:9 DV and resulting image as a PSD with QT Export is 4:3
sure I can cmd-T > transform it in photoshop in a 16:9 template but isnt there a more elegant way.

The simplest method to make a freeze frame from the Timeline (or from another video source in the Viewer) is to choose the frame and chose the menu item "Modify > Make Freeze Frame" (shortcut "Shift N") which will load the current fame into the Viewer as a freeze frame the duration of which is set in "User Preferences" and at the aspect ratio of the source. In Final Cut Pro it will be displayed at the correct aspect ratio so no need to convert.
If you are talking about exporting a freeze frame out of Final Cut Pro as a still then it is a different thing.
The PAL frame is 720 pixels x 576 pixels and this is the same for both 4x3 and 16x9. But the 16x9 image has an anamorphic horizontal squeeze on in it. To see it un-squeezed on a still image simply change the horizontal size from 720 to 1024 pixels in Photoshop and Bob's your uncle.
Not 100% sure for NTSC but I think it is 720 pixels expanded to 853 pixels? No doubt someone can correct me here if this is wrong.

  • How to remove a freeze frame in final cut pro x

I've added a freeze frame using Add Freeze Frame, but I don't know how to remove it and go back to the normal timing.  I can remove it immediately with Undo, but I don't know how to do it later.  I've searched around and the only close answer is using Modify > Retime > Reset Speed, but that doesn't do anything.  I also don't see anything in the Inspector window that allows me to remove the freeze frame.  Thanks.
    Denise

    Hello Denise,
Assuming your clip is on the Primary Storyline:
Press Cmd+B to Blade the clip immediately before the frame in question.
Select the first part of the clip and press Alt+Cmd+Up-Arrow to lift it from the Primary Storyline.
Drag out the end to cover the duration of the clip you want to overwrite.
Press Alt+Cmd+DOWN- arrow to overwrite to the Primary Storyline.
    I hope that's what you're looking for.

  • Imovie11 splitting clips and freeze frame problems

I am having a problem with imovie11 splitting cips and using the freeze frame function.  When I highlight the clip I want split, it splits a different clip either on the line below it or somewhere else in my project!  Also, my freeze frame function freezes the frame where my playhead is BUT doesn't split the clip...so what I'm left with is the entire clip- then the freeze frame - then the continuation after the freeze frame.  Is there a fix for this??

Remove any in or out points you have on the timeline. Place the playhead at the frame on the timeline you want to freeze, and then select Modify > Make Freeze Frame, the freeze should appear instantly in the viewer. You can then click the Overwrite button, and the freeze should now be placed on the timeline in the correct place.
    Is this not happening?
