Freeze frame in the middle of a clip?

For an instructional DVD, I need to be able to freeze a frame in the middle of a clip, without the sound (as I'll put up some text messages).
I've ended up making copies of the clip, and using the hold condition, and trying to line them all up by hand, but this doesn't seem like an ideal way to do this.
Also, is there an easy way to turn off the sound for the 'hold' part of the end of a clip? Would be nice if there were a boolean I'd overlooked, but I guess I'll have to open my "Spencer's" Motion 4 book, and try to remember how audio keyframing works?

As mentioned by others, it's best to perform this effect in FCP. Bring your Motion project back into FCP and place the playhead where you want to freeze the frame. Press shift/n to create a still image in the Viewer. Blade the clip at the playhead and perform an insert edit to add the freeze frame. Cutting out the audio in FCP is easy as well and there's several ways to go about it. I would simply blade the audio at the freezing point and drag the remainder of the audio to snap to the point where the motion starts up again, depending on the type of audio effect you are looking for.
Although there aren't any behaviors in Motion that affect audio in that fashion (except for Audio fade in/out behavior) you can still edit the audio somewhat in Motion. Just go to the Audio Editor Tab and adjust the levels there or press ⌘6 to reveal the Audio Tab then right click the audio file to duplicate the audio file, set an out point for the first audio clip in the Audio Editor Tab where you want it to freeze, note the frame, and on the duplicated audio file set the in point at the same frame that was set for the first audio clips out point, then place the duplicated audio clip were you'd like the audio to resume.

  • How can I remove frames in the middle of a clip?

  • Deleting video frames in the middle of a clip

I would like to delete a video frame here and there in a video clip or delete very small frame ranges in the video clip. These unwanted frames are not at the beginning or end of the clip. In iMovie 3.0 this procedure was a piece of cake, but I am struggling to figure out how to do this in iMovie 08. Can this be done easily? If not, I guess it's back to iMovie 3.0.
    Thank you.

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
It's easy. Just click on the clip which you want to edit, and drag the ends of the highlighted section so that the highlight selects just the region which you want to delete.
Then press the backspace/Delete key, or choose Edit and Reject Selection.
You'll see a small dark line at the top of the rejected (marked for deletion) region of your clip.
iMovie '08 is a "non-destructive" editor, so your piece of rejected video is not automatically destroyed.
Near the bottom left of the editing window you'll see, along the bottom edge of iMovie, the word "Show:", and beside it it's usually showing "All Clips". Click on the up-&-down-pointing arrowheads alongside "All Clips", and choose "Rejected Only". A header then appears at the top of the 'Event Library', and towards the centre right it shows "Move Rejected to Trash" and "Hide Rejected".
If you click on "Move Rejected to Trash" and confirm that choice, your clip will be gone! (..You can bring it back - and Undo anything else - by pressing Ctrl and Z..)
So select all the bits which you want to discard, then click on "Show: Rejected Only" ..and then you can move them to the Trash.
For more help with iMovie '08 it's a good idea to watch the iMovie Tutorials, and go through the Support pages, here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie and here: http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/
⪢⪢..And here's an even simpler method of editing .."Trim to Selection", or ⌘B, explained here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-enjoy-21

  • What is the best way to remove footage from the middle of a clip?

What is the best way to remove unwanted footage from the middle of a clip? I have a clip that I've trimmed from the start and finsih, but I need to remove "boring" footage from inbetween.

Thank you for your replies. I tried the blade tool followed by select and delete but it did not seem very precise. I had better success with this aproach at the ends rather than in the middle. I watched a tutorial video on using the precision editor, but the video was small so I had a difficult time following where the person clicked, etc. Any info on using the precision editor would be greatly appreciated. I need to make precise cuts to avoid creating unatural motion for the subject. So far, close but no cigar.

    Michael

  • I just got a white frame in the middle of my images in viewer mode. What is it and how did it get there and how do i get rid of it.

I just got a white frame in the middle of my images in viewer mode in Aperture 3. What is it and how did it get there and how do i get rid of it?

    Just fishin' ...
Is by any chance "View→Show focus points" checked?
Does the frame persist after closing and re-opening Aperture?
    Notice anything else different?
To post a screen shot, you first take it, them upload it.  To take them, I use and recommend Skitch -- one of the best little apps ever.  But this ability is built into OS X.  Use Grab or Preview (search OS X Help for full directions).  In Preview, use "File→Take screen shot ... →From selection ... ".  Save the file in Preview to your drive.  In the Discussion forum click the "Insert Image" icon (a camera) and select the file you created in Preview.

  • HDV Capture pauses in the MIDDLE of a clip and loses info.

Everytime I try to capture HDV 1080 50i, it keeps pausing out in the middle of a clip. By the time the machine catches up again I have lost a few seconds. Sometimes I get a minute, sometimes 5min.
It is NOT a start stop detection issue as it happens in the MIDDLE of a clip.
Capture now or Batch makes no difference.
It works fine on my laptop but not on my workstaion.
Using a Sony Z1 and other HDV camera.
I have tried EVERYTHING - Really. Really. Really
Used to work but doesn't anymore.
Trashed prefs and user data - that worked last time it happened (well trashing prefs didn't but User Data did) Different startup discs, different capture drives, different cameras, different tapes, different cable.
If I wasn't bald already I'd pull my hair out!

Hmmm okay.  I've been using PP for 2 years now with the same type of "non-camera media" and never had a problem til now.  But since then I've edited hours and hours of similar footage with no problem, so I may  just suck it up and use something like Windows Movie Maker to edit the one clip that is messing up.  Thanks for the help, and if anyone else has other suggestions, please feel free to post them

  • Can you freeze frame with the imovie app. and save the freeze frame to a picture

Can I freeze frame on the iMovie app and turn the freeze frame into a picture?

Experiencing the same issue. Fired up iMovie for the first time today and created 2 movies. The first was 35 seconds long and the 2nd was 1 min 45 seconds long. Got all my pics loaded up and added a song from my personal collection. Plays perfectly from the phone. The problem occured when I tried to export the larger movie. The first time I tried, it sat at the exporting movie status bar (without moving) and then closed the app. After relaunching the app, it told me that my audio file had been removed from the phone. After closing and re-opening the iMovie app again, my movie project played fine through the app but as soon as I tried to export again it rebooted my phone. I tried exporting on all 3 size options (Medium, Large, HD) and it did not matter. I tried multiple songs thinking perhaps that was my issue, but each one did the same thing. I tried the lock-screen time-out fix but that didn't help either. I have no problems exporting my smaller movie file (35 seconds)using any of the export sizes. This leads me to believe that the issue is soley related to the length of the project...or perhaps the number objects located in the project. In either case, it's definitely an app issue. I do love the app though...when it works.

  • Frozen frame at the end of every clip

Without transitions, there is a frozen frame at the end of every clip that can be very distracting. Is there a way to disable this? I've been putting transitions in, which works, but I don't want to have to do that.
    Thanks,

Thank you very much! Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. This ended up working! It ***** that I have to add this extra step, but I'm glad there is a work around. Thanks again for you help.

  • How do I make precise frame range deletions in the middle of project clip?

I need to make a precise deletion of frames 8:55:15 to 8:56:12 in the middle of my project video clip.
Problem: The trimmer won't do it because it keeps the very selection which I want to delete, while deleting the frames before and after my selection range.
Problem: When in my project, while the red pointer tells me exactly where I am in my clip (when I select Playhead Information in View), the problem is that I have no information to tell me the exact location of the right and left selection handles so I can precisely select 8:55:15 and 8:56:12 of my clip for deletion. I press the Option key and the pointer moves to the beginning or end of the clip, not to one end handles of the selection.
In iMovie 3 when the selection handles are moved I get information as to exactly where each handle rests in terms of time or frames for easy deletion of the exact selection I want to remove.
Can iMovie 08 make precise frame range deletions somewhere in the middle of a project clip?
    Thank you.

Problem: The trimmer won't do it because it keeps the very selection which I want to delete, while deleting the frames before and after my selection range.
Don't use it. It is for trimming the ends from the clip selection.
Can iMovie 08 make precise frame range deletions somewhere in the middle of a project clip?
Yes. The basic strategy is to expand the project to its maximum scale (0.5 sec) and to then select the range of frames you wish to to edit. Start by slowly dragging the playhead across the clip in the area you wish to access. The time in white below the window will display the exact (minute:) second: and frame across which you are skimming, as well as display the frame itself in both the thumbnail and the preview screens. (NOTE: I prefer visual selection of the frames rather than using a time reference since such references may change as transitions and titles are added.) When you locate the first frame you wish to delete, press the mouse to select it. While holding down the mouse, continue to scrub the clip to locate the last frame you wish to delete. When you locate it, release the mouse. At this point you can either split the clip and keep/delet the sub-segments as needed or delete the selected range using the "Delete Selection" or "Cut" Edit menu options.
Another method would be to select the approximate range you wish to edit in the middle of the clip and then grab and drag the beginning and ending "handles" to adjust the exact start and stop frames for the "Selected" range. In this case, the times ate the bottom of the "Project" window represent the "in" and "out" points for the range of frames currently selected. Once again, I prefer to select the in and out points visually as I scrub. Also, for me, this two-stage adjustment approach seems quicker and easier for my approach to editing.
The problem is that the playhead refers to the red pointer, thus I can get an exact location of the pointer in terms of time and frame, but NOT a location of the selection handles.
Okay, I see what you mean. However, if you use the two-stange method described above, the point where you press the mouse to mark the begin handle of the selected range is the "begin handle". Same holds true for the release point (playhead time time) for the stop handle.
Is there some way I can line up the pointer exactly with the location of the right or left handle then use Option key and Left/Right arrow keys to move the handles to my exact range frame by frame?
Not really at the same time. iMovie does allow you to set the exact start point and will tell you when you have reached the exact number of seconds and frames for the range you wish to delete. Adding the two together does give you the exact time of the end of the range in seconds and frames.

  • Audio track restarts in the middle of a clip

    Hi!
I'm having an interesting issue with the audio tracks in my Timeline.
When I start playing a clip the audio is in sync with the video. Then about 5 seconds into playing the clip the audio starts over. The playhead does not go back to the beginning, but the same audio is looped over again--and of course is now out of sync with the video track. The clips are not out of sync in the Timeline.
For example, one clip is an interview: "This duck is un-banded so I'm going to get to put a band on this duck. It's a male mallard. I can tell because it's starting to get it's green head. Although at this time of the year..." (audio cuts off and restarts): "This duck is unbanded so I'm going to get to put a band on this duck. It's a male mallard. I can tell because it's starting to get it's green head. Although at this time of the year they are molting so they don't have the brilliant green head that we're all used to seeing."
The waveform of the audio restarting is represented when I open the clip from the Timeline into the Viewer! However if I go back to the Browser to the original clip and play that, the audio track is fine.
What's going on here? What can I do to fix this besides grabbing the original clips from the Browser and replacing them in the timeline? Or forcing the audio tracks out of sync to match? (eek!)
I must have done something weird...

One example of an affected clip:
Source is from a Panasonic HD camera--so transferred to FC from a P2 card
    Item properties:
    817.5 MB
    960x720
DVCPRO HD 720p60, Interger (little Endian), Timecode
Hey--could this be caused by the frame rate of the sequence? I just noticed that the sequence these affected clips are in is 60fps, and my video clips are 23.98fps. So--I copied and pasted my clips into a new 23.98 sequence and the issue has gone away. Huh. Oops... Not enough coffee this morning.
Thanks for trying to help out--sorry to have answered my own question (duh).

  • Premiere adding 15 frames to the end of every clip in export/sequence

Last night I exported an AVCHD 1080p Square Pixel sequence to a H.264 video file. When I checked on it this morning, the export had 15 frames added to the end of every clip in my video. I checked my project in Adobe Premiere Pro CC, and noticed that those extra frames were also added to my sequence. Any clue as to what would cause this?

Can you post a screenshot of your timeline.
Also one zoomed in on a problem area.
Are you using crossdissolves in a 30 fps sequence?

  • Freeze Frame at the end of cuts

I am getting a quick freeze at the end of each cut that I make in iMovie 11. I can't get anything to just cut straight to the next shot without a slight hold. Has anyone else had this problem?

Is there a chance your source footage has the same white frame before you encode it? I've never seen this problem.
As far as flip4mac, there is a work around in the current version to avoid the green monster. With a Two Pass VBR Constrained, set your Peak Bit Rate to 1.5x. This makes your encode closer to a CBR, but eliminates the compression artifacts. Also in the advanced settings, a shorter Key Frame frequency will improve overall quality.
Sorry I'm not more help with the white frame. What version of Compressor are you using? I've done close to 100 encodes in the last month and haven't encountered this. What are your source files? Quicktime out of FCP? Reference files?

  • In the middle of a clip, the audio starts playing from another part.... Help?

So, I'm a bit of a technological noob, so I will describe this the best I can.  I have a clip (mp4) that runs about 1 hour 30 min long.  About 30 minutes into the clip, the audio from the beginning of the clip randomly starts playing, yet the video continues as it should, just the audio randomly swapped itself somehow?
I have not cut or edited the clip in any way, I simply imported it in, and put it on the timeline and no matter what I tried (restarting, clearing cache, reimporting, etc) nothing seems to fix the problem.  The weirder part is, if I watch the raw file using something like Windows Media Player, the clip is just fine, no problems at all.  So something must be going wrong when it's imported into Adobe Premiere.
Has anyone had this issue or know what may be causing this? I'm at a loss and it's keeping me from continuing a series I'm working on that I need to release.
As I said before, I'm a bit noobish, and this is my first time posting, so please feel free to respond with any additional info you need me to supply, and try to explain things in a noob friendly way, as I may not understand super technical jargon.
Edit: A little bit of info to help possibly... I'm using Windows 7 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

  • How do I change the volume in the middle of a clip up and down?

I need to make my questions I ask during the interview quieter in my Final Cut x.
The man I was interviewing was pretty near to deaf so for him to hear I almost yell the questions.
I remember that somehow I need to put start and stop makers on the volume to be able to raise and lower just parts of the clip's volume, but I cannot remember how to put those things on a clip or what they are called?
I did already detach my audio.
So basically what are the best ways to raise and lower my audio in the clip and how do I find those things that make the points where the change will start and stop and what are they called?

Just cause I have to finish this, I think I did a really weird way, but would still like to know the correct or best way to do it. I put keyframes right beside the keyframes that I was using so that I could pull down the area between them, so I used 4 keyframes to get one little area to go down.
so ... Is this the right way to do it?
