Freeze local patch server

I would like to implement our patches with the following method:
week one: patch qa systems
week two: patch production systems, but only with tested patches
I had hoped that changing the Patch Source URL setting on the local patch server to reference the local cache directory instead of the sun patch server would halt the server from obtaining any new patches, but somehow its still downloading new patches.
What's the best method for halting new patch downloads?

The answer is yes, they can safely be removed. If the patches are still required by some clients then the patch server will simply download them again.

  • Patch 121620-03 never downloaded from local patch server

When I run `smpatch analyze' on a patch client, it always lists
    this patch:
121620-03 SunOS 5.10: Patch for mediaLib in Solaris
However, when I run `smpatch download' it fails with this error:
121620-03: Request to download update failed. Status code 500 returned. An unexpected error occurred inside the server that prevented it from fulfilling the request.
On the local patch server, I see this error in the logs:
    $ grep 121620-03 catalina.out
INFO: Content Cache Entry for key : /all_signed/121620-03.jar is null!
INFO: Cache Entry File for key : /all_signed/121620-03.jar is null!
INFO: Cache Entry File for key : /all_signed/121620-03.jar is null!
    How do I fix this?

I was hasty in that reply. Yes, the client was able to download
other patches normally. Only the one download ever failed.
Here's the corresponding information for the local patch server:

  • LPS Local patch Server

    Hi
    I setup LPS
    patchsvr setup -p file:/export/patches
    patchsrv start
I see its running at port 3816.
How do one fill up the contens of a local patch server
when i cant have direct nor proxy connection to internet?
Can it be as simple as wget some directory of patches.sun.com?
I read there is a CD avalible but SUN rep. never heard of such thing

The structure for LPS patch repository is
    /export/patches
    /export/patches/Misc
    /export/patches/Patches
In /export/patches/Misc two files are needed
    detectors.jar and patchdb.zip.
But these two files i found are not updated
and do not contain patches for S10.
But smpatch analyze, download ,add works for an old Solaris 8 client if i add old patches
    to /export/patches/Patches.

  • Local patch server confused again

Starting earlier this week, Solaris 10 clients that connect to our local patch server
only report that patch 121118-08 is required. Running `smpatch analyze' a week
ago showed many more patches. After 121118-08 is applied, another `smpatch
analyze' says `No patches required.'. One of these clients needed 139 patches before,
and now needs none! What happened?
Solaris 10 machines that don't go through the local patch server are behaving
normally. Restarting the local patch server didn't help. The local patch server's
URL is `https://getupdates1.sun.com/solaris/'. It hasn't been changed for some time,
and was working a week ago.

Here's a bit more data. Clearly it's the LPS that's messed up. As you can see above the LPS is getting an old current.zip but the LPS host actually gets the correct one when it goes to the same site to get the same file.

  • Local Patch proxy not showing all patches

Ive noticed that sometimes the my local patch proxy doesnt pick up all the patches.
Theres a bunch of patches that just showed up today on the sun server. But if I point a machine at my local patch proxy, they don't show up in an smpatch analyze (or in the um display).
Point the machine back to the sun server and they show up again.
Possibly it just a lag problem and they will show up in th local proxy tomorrow.

I take it when you say local patch proxy you are referring to the Sun Update Connect Proxy, rather than the Local Patch Server (LPS).
Have a look at the thread below and let us know whether the problem you have is the same:
    http://forum.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=25740&messageID=92719
If so the solution is shown here:
    First, stop the proxy:
    patchsvr stop
See if the crypto services are running:
    $ svcs svc:/system/cryptosvc
You'll need to restart them if they are disabled:
    $ svcadm enable svc:/system/cryptosvc
Now, you can disable the problematic component:
    $ cryptoadm disable metaslot
    And restart the proxy:
    $ patchsvr start

  • Ftp to a local ftp server doesn't work for VIREX 7.7

Has anyone else experienced this and know of a work-around? I have mac 10.3.9 machines not connected to the internet and running Virex 7.7. I have them setup to access signature files I download to a local ftp server on our subnet. This works fine.
We've installed a couple of Tiger (10.4.4) machines and this setup for Virex does not work. It acts like it can't see the ftp server. When I use Terminal I can ftp to the ftp server and transfer files that way. Why doesn't Virex 7.7 successfully download signature files from the ftp server?
    Any suggestions?

I have been having the same problem. Our McAfee rep sent me a patch that apparently fixes the problem. Since McAfee issues DATs on Wednesdays, I ran the the e-update yesterday morning. It all seemed to run too quickly, but I checked the dates of the vscan files and they were correct. The files are:
    names.dat
    clean.dat
    scan.dat
They located in /usr/local/vscanx/ (hidden files - you can download "Wizzard" to show/hide files).
I believe you can download the patch at:

  • Pros and cons of installing a local J2EE server

    Hi,
We are about to start developing portal applications with Web Dynpro and will use NWDI (DTR/CBS/CMS). I would like to know what SAP recommends for team development, each developer installs a local J2EE server or they all deploy and test on a central server?
From my past experiences, using only one central server can cause problems with debugging, deployment and collisions of a DC tested simultanously by two developers. Running a local server can solve these problems but this could be costly; first because PCs often don't have enough CPU/RAM to run it, and second to support all these complex installations.
I have read Benny's two blogs and some SAP documentation but it is still not clear to me which option is best. If you have lived good or bad experiences with one or the other please let me know!
    Thanks,
    Martin

I would strongly suggest you avoid having a single runtime environment for multiple developers.  The nature of Java development makes working in a runtime environment such as this very difficult.  It's far too easy to have multiple developers working on the same component making changes that result in different versions of the same component getting deployed to the same runtime environment.  Unless communication is very good, you're developers will end up clobbering each others changes.  Obviously not good, since the developers will spend time trying to debug problems which really don't exist!
At the other end of the spectrum, each developer can have their own Java stack running locally on their desktop PC.  This was the solution that we first tested out, but due to the amount of virus scanning and the overall 'weight' of the other software tools on our desktop PC's, this didn't work too well - performance wasn't all that good.  It was also too easy for the developer to clobber their own environment by accidentally removing files, or by making changes to the configuration that would render their engine unusable.
What we opted for was something in the middle: a dedicated multi-cpu system with lots of RAM that runs multiple J2EE instances, each of which is assigned to a single developer.  What you get from this sort of configuration is this: only a single operating system to patch when you are required to do upgrades; a controlled environment where the developer doesn't have file system access to the system (which they don't need anyways); if you're lucky, basis support to perform installation and patching duties.
We've been using this environment for about a year now, and it works well.  I have full access to the J2EE container via the Visual Admin, and since the dev instances are configured as single server debuggable instances, I can restart the server via the Dev Studio with just two clicks.
Hope that gives you an idea of another possible config.

  • Patch Server proxy settings

I am running Patch Server on Sol 9. I can configure it with our proxy Internet server and port number but there appears to be no options for providing it with a username and password for authentication in our local proxy. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this?

With regards to your first question, I do not believe that this is possibleat this time.
As far as we are aware there is no alternative to Sun Update Connection Enterprise (Enterprise/Satellite) at this time.
I would suggest that you contact your Sun Account Manager, or local Sales team with regards to evaluation of the software.

  • Previewing on local testing server

When previewing a file in the Dreamweaver development
environment, Dreamweaver loads the file, say testfile.html, in the
browser with its file system address, eg
    file://Applications/MAMP/htdocs/jsMath/test/testfile.html. However,
the local website address of this file is
    http://localhost:8888/jsMath/test/testfile.html.
This leads to a security error
    Security Error: Content at
    file:///Applications/MAMP/htdocs/jsMath/test/testfile.html may not
    load data from
    http://localhost:8888/jsMath/plugins/autoload.js.
The problem can be circumvented by avoiding the Dreamweaver
preview and hand-loading the file directly as
    http://localhost:8888/jsMath/test/testfile.html
Surely the preview feature must not be bound by this
restriction. What might be done to get preview to work properly
    with this local testing server?

You need to define the testing server correctly in your site
    definition.
In your case, the Testing server folder field should be set
    to
Applications/MAMP/htdocs/jsMath/test/ and the URL prefix to
    http://localhost:8888/jsMath/test/.

    S1:I uninstalled BPA.
S2: I installed BPA again using the default options by selecting all the default options that the BPA showed during installation. EG. I selected 'Oracle Lite' which was by default an option.
S3: After BPA installation, I also installed BPA Publisher which i had not done last time.
S4: Restated my system and it all works gr8 now.
Actually, the BPA Publisher creats a Repository area so it should have been installed along with the BPA installation. And Since a Repository area was not found it was giving this error message again and again.
Now its all fine . Hopefully, some one else will learn from my mistakes.

  • EAP-FAST on Local Radius Server : Can't Get It Working

    Hi all
I'm using an 877w router (flash:c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-24.T4.bin) as local radius server and have followed various config guides on CCO. LEAP works fine but I just can't get EAP-FAST to work.
I'm testing with win7 client using anyconnect secure mobility client, and also a mac book pro but without luck.
the router sees unknown auth type, and when I run some debugs it talks of unknown eap type 3

  • How do I set up a local testing server?

Hey again everyone. I am trying to figure out how to set up a local testing server. I've read a couple different tutorials online and i still can't figure it out. I added a new server, named it test server, I'm connecting using local/network, my server folder is C:\Users\Jake\Website\testfolder, and my web URL is http://localhost/. My server model is PHP/MySQL.
My site's root folder is C:\Users\Jake\Website\. I have also downloaded XXAMP. It downloaded and that was it though, I'm not sure if I need to apply it somehow to Dreamweaver. When I try to preview my pages I get a message that asks me if I want to update copy on testing server. If I choose yes, another message comes up and asks me if I want to put dependent files. Whether I choose yes or no it just says IE cannot display the web page.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    Server Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\php_test
    Default Images Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\php_test\Images\

Is that everything you need to know? Note that I do not have a remote testing site set up yet.

  • Login settings will not update the local testing server files

When uploading to web server from local testing server, changing login settings in the control panel does not update the local testing server Restrict Access to page files. Causing login on website not to function.
It does however update the Connections file and the login wizard form.
What is the best way to change login settings before uploading site to web server?
    Thanks
    Dan

Dan - I am having the same exact problem. I'm using the restrict access and user registration and login - when attempting to use the Update Record wizard to allow users to change their password or email address, it doesn't change the record.

  • How to setup the local testing server ??

hello, what do I need to install first before I can setup the
testing server in dreamweaver 8? I have download apache2 triad,
    mySQL, IIS 6...
Where should I download the correct version of mySQL because
I need to test my php scripts locally which has something to do
    with database?
How do I configure these on the testing server setup
Connection Name - what should I input here?
    MySQL Server - and this?
Username - where do I get one?
Password - where do I get one?
Database - gets an error saying "HTTP error code 404...
    1) There is no testing server running on the server machine.
2)The testing server specified for this site does not map to
    the

I have never heard of apache2triad, but I've just had a look
    at the
apache2triad site, which says: "It is recommended that only
    experienced
users, with a vast knowledge of how networks, and its
    components (Apache
Web Server, ect.) should install this software. It IS NOT
    your average
software; a lot of time, patience and effort are required to
    maintain
    such a server."
Setting up a local testing server is not difficult, but it
    does require
a basic understanding of how a server-side language like PHP
    works.
As I said before, you must always store your files in the web
    server
document root. According to the apache2triad documentation,
    this is C:
\apache2triad\htdocs\. Unless you store your files there, or
    in a
subfolder of htdocs, nothing will work.
