Freeze then Crash during basic editing in Premiere Pro CS6

During basic movment on the timeline and even just in the program (clicking effects controls, etc.) Premiere pro is freezing and sometimes crashing. I have just purchased a great system so I am very surprised that this is happening. I have playback (paused and playing) set at 1/4.
Windows 7 professional 64bit
OS on 256gb SSD
Footage on 2TB HDD
Quadro 2000 Video Card
32 gb ram
Dual Six Core XEON E5-2620, 2.0GHz, 10M, 7.2 GT/s
Anyone fixed this issues before?
Thanks,
Caleb

  • Error during start up of Premiere Pro CS6.  "... could not find any capable video play modules..."

During start up of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, I get the following error message.  "Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules.  Please update your video display drivers and start again."  This does not occur on After Effects, and the program runs successfully.  Premiere Pro will not open, and in the start up window the last thing the status line states before the error message occurs is: "Loading ImporterQuikTime.prm"
I have added an NVidia GPU card to my system and have installed the latest video drivers from the NVidida website (GeForce 310.70).  This did not help.  I have QuikTime on my computer, but am not sure if it needs to be in a certain file location.
I have also gone in to BIOS after installing the GPU and disabled internal graphics, but that did not help either.  Not sure what to do next.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Rhoadman

Thank you everyone for the replies.  Although I don't have a laptop, the following seems to work.
    Solution 1
On Windows 7, right-click the shortcut to Adobe Premiere Pro, and choose Run as Administrator.
Using this method, Premiere Pro opened successfully.  Using the shortcut directly, the error persists.  It looks like we will just have to open the program using this method.
    Many thanks for the replies.

  • Speedgrade crashing and not roundtripping with Premiere Pro CS6 (NOT CC)

I am using Speedgrade CS6 (not CC).  I have two questions.  1.  When rendering my graded material to h.264 from Speedgrade, it crashes and the .mp4 that I get is choppy and incomplete.  Also, a secondary issue is that I would like to edit in Premiere, color grade in Speedgrade and then roundtrip back to Premiere for editing and encoding.  Is this possible?  Please help!

Ask in the Prem/ SG forums. And just to point out an obvious flaw in your current workflow: Why would anyone render a sequence to a compressed format like H.264 after going out of the way to grade it for further editing? Makes no sense whatsoever, considering that once you edit it in Premiere and export it from there you add anorther pass of compression. Use DPX, TIFF, QT Animation or similar.

  • Why does Premiere Elements 9 keep crashing during basic editing?

Recently purchased Premiere Elements 9 to do some reasonably simple editing combining videos and photographs. After about 2mins to 10mins of using the software it unexpectedly crashes for no apparent reason. I have only ever had 2 or 3 layers in the video and often when I go to view a preview (but not exclusive to this) it shuts down. Sometimes its when I am manipulating text or trying to add effects. I'm using a brand new iMac and the only other programmes I am running concurrently are Safari and Photoshop although I have tried it with no other programmes running and it still happens. I've added details below of the processor and graphics card I am running to see if there are clues there. I get an error report but its a bit large to paste here although if anyone wants to take a look it would be much appreciated!

Thank you for the clarification. Titles should not be an issue at all. You are correct, they are an intrensic part of PrE, and should cause no issues.
I think that Neale's link will be useful. A lot of that material should be X-platform, but you will see some that is Windows-specific, especially as PrE was not X-platform, until PrE 9, and some of the suggestions, while still applicable, were when the program was only on the PC. Also, I gathered up some of it, and have to admit that I am a Mac-illiterate.
Something is definitely wrong with your PrE 9.0, with your system, or with its setup. Steve Grisetti, our MOD here, uses PrE 9.0 on an iMac, that is not a powerhouse computer, and has had few issues. I'd like to hear his comments, as he is X-platform, and many of us are only PC-guys. It's not that we do not want to help, as we do, it's just that many of us do not know the ins-and-outs that might be specific to the Mac.
Now, aspects of performance, such as the nVidia, or ATI video drivers, updating QT and updating PrE are not platform-specific, and are places to look first.
Also, when PrE crashes, do you get any error messages? I can tell you where to look for OS errors and warnings on a PC, but am lost on the Mac. There has to be some process logging function in OSX, like Event Viewer in Windows. It basically logs every call to every service, program, or process, and monitors the response. When things do not go, as they should, a warning, or error message is written to Event Viewer. Some of those are just cryptic code, and meaningless to even a Windows engineer, but some will have real, useful data, and the best will have links to say the MS Web site, or maybe to a driver mfgr. with tips on what went wrong, and best of all, what to do about it. Unfortunately, I cannot even begin to tell you where to look on a Mac.
One other potential concern would be the amount of free space on your HDD's. PrE creates very large working files, and needs a lot of real estate, just to work. How much free space do you have on each of your HDD?
Sorry to just be thinking out loud here, and wish that I had some wonderful, and useful insight.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I have exported a one-hour choral concert edited in Premiere Pro CS6 to Encore, but Encore crashes?

I have completed editing a multicam shoot of a one-hour choral concert.  I have exported it to Encore, but Encore keeps crashing.  How to solve problem?

    Bob,
I recently responded to a similar question with the following answer, which applies to the specific question the OP asked, but you will understand the issues:
Imagine a very popular nightclub, that opens at 10 PM and long rows of people are waiting to come in.
If that nightclub only has a single door that can be used by single person only at one time, used for both entry and exit, you can imagine the waiting for people outside can be long or people inside waiting to exit. The first thing to do is make another door, one for entry only and one for exit only. That reduces the queues. The next thing to do is create multiple doors, let's say two on the North side, one for entry and one for exit, plus two doors on the South side, again one for entry and one for exit.
I imagine you get the drift. Well, each door is like a physical SATA connection, traffic can only go in one direction at a time and the people or data on either side of the door or SATA connection have to wait. That is a simple reason why more disks are better for the multitude of tasks that need to be performed during editing. The more doors or SATA connections, the less waiting there is and the more enjoyable it is.
The C: drive for OS & programs and pagefile is mostly used for reading and housekeeping, the staff only entrance.
Other drive(s) or doors are used for projects, media, media cache, previews and exports. The slower the drive, the narrower the door, the faster the disk, the wider the door. How to organize access to the drives depends on your editing style and material, just like the number of doors in the nightclub depend on the number of visitors and their visiting patterns.
If you do smallish projects with rather easy codecs and limited or no multicam editing, the system requirements are not very hard, but if you do large and complex projects with difficult codecs and lots of multicam editing, you need a much sturdier system. A small nightclub out in the country requires less doors than a huge nightclub in a big city that caters to movie stars, celebrities and other VIP's, especially if they use the latest and greatest in presentation technology (of course with corresponding prices).
I keep coming back to this nightclub, because I think the analogy works quite well to explain that there is not one answer that suites all needs. Basically it boils down to available budget and the circumstances you are in.  Now, with a 500 GB disk available, I assume your system is not the latest. I would keep it simple, forget a SSD for the moment as a boot disk, it may be overkill in your current system, and get as many 1+ TB Seagate 7200.14 or WD Caviar Blacks as your budget allows (up to 5). When you buy a new system in the future, you can take these disks along to the new system.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 with external HDMI monitor

    Hello all
Is it possible to use an HDMI monitor as an external preview monitor when editing with Premiere Pro CS6?  If so, then how is it connected, and where can i find the correct tick box in
Premiere Pro CS6?  I have an apple iMac (early 2009) intel core 2 Duo (if this is relevant).
I need to be sure of the correct colour/look output, etc.
Any advice would be greatfully received.
    Thanks

    Hi Ferret Head,
    Please go to premiere pro>preferences>playback
and check the option for the second monitor under video device.

  • USB Mic not working in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac

So I've been editing in Premiere Pro CS6 on a mac for 6 months now.  I have to do a temp VO for a project and I thought I'd try the Narration feature in the mixer.  For some reason my USB mic doesn't show up in the Audio Hardware so I can't pick it.  The same mic shows up in the Mac Audio Settings and even shows up in Audition.  I've been having to use Audition but was curious to see if anyone out there has gotten a USB mic to work in Premiere Pro on a Mac.  Would be a really cool feature if it worked.
    Greg Jones
    D7,Inc.

Some USB mics work fine, but many do not. It can depend on the exact mic, or might require a different ASIO driver (maybe something like ASIO4All?), or different ASIO setting, to work.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Randomly Crashes During Preview

    Hello,
I've searched and gone through various threads where crashing has been posted and none of the solutions have helped thus far.
There are two issues that I would encounter doing the most basic of tasks such as previewing a clip within Premiere Pro CS6:
    -  The preview screen will freeze and I am unable to see the video.
    -  The program will cause my video driver to encounter a serious problem and recover.
    Here are my specifications:
    Sony Vaio
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Operating System
    Intel Core i5 2.40ghz
    8 Gigs of Ram
ATI Radeon HD 6470m Graphics Card
The temporary solution to both that I have found effective is closing down the program, then opening task manager, ending the Adobe Premiere process and restarting Adobe Premiere.  If I don't do this then the program can't be opened.
Here are some of the solutions I've implemented without any positive changes:
    -  Ensured display driver / graphics card is updated (ATI Radeon HD 6470m)
    -  Closed all other programs
    -  Couldn't change GPU acceleration because the video card doesn't allow it.
    -  Disabled Hover Scrub
I've spent a few days researching this and I'm very sorry for posting a question in regards to this issue.  However, I can't seem to find the help I need from Support because their phone system is down and I can't use the ticketing system because I'm using the Adobe Creative Cloud.  I would appreciate any help in advance.  Thank you.

Just finished the phone call from Adobe support.
The solution to the problem is if Premiere freezes, create a new sequence and import your video into the new sequence.  He didn't know the specifics of what caused the issue, but should it happen again, I'd have to just tansfer the video into a new sequence.  my project has not malfunctioned in the past hour.

  • New itunes is destroying my life. It won't allow me to search. As soon as I type a single key in the search field. It freezes, then crashes. WHY??????

It won't allow me to search. As soon as I type a single key in the search field. It freezes, then crashes. WHY??????

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Premiere Pro cs6 keeps crashing when im editing or rendering a video

When I am on Adobe Premiere Pro cs6 every 10-20 mins it crashes when im editing a video, it crashes more often when im rendering it (export media, ctrl+M). I dont mind when it crashes while im editing because i save the file regularly but when im rendering its a problem, it probably because the file is too big as i use dxtory to record skyrim but this is an expensive product so it should be able to render. I encode the file once ive chosen the format and stuff for the video and it says finish rendering in 50 mins or so and when it gets to like 4% rendering it says not responding. It then troubleshoots but then says 'close program'. this is very frustrating, please can someone help me. • Every time I try to import photos, lightroom freezes, then crashes

Every time I try to import photos, lightroom freezes, then crashes. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks DdeGannes for the heads up- I knew that this was user-generated, but didn't know that Adobe doesn't reply directly.
Anyways, here's my exact query from another forum pasted (it's a lot of info to retype):
I haven't used LR 5.3 since December, and between then and now I reformatted my computer and reinstalled my basic program set. I haven't added any new programs, and if anything my current set-up should be the same as it was in December minus extra temp file bloat and a few extraneous programs.
Fast forward to today (after taking some new photos). I open up LR, and try to import but the program hangs and eventually crashes. The exact issue can be seen in this youtube video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg0uQvVoZYw
Thinking it was a bad installation, I proceeded to remove LR, and reinstall it. No dice.
Thinking it was a driver/program conflict issue, I booted into Safe Mode and tried to import. No dice.
I'm all out of ideas. It looks like the issue is fairly common (judging by the number of new help threads on the Adobe Community Forums. Does anyone have any experience, or better yet, any fixes for this particular issue?
In case anyone asks, my general computer set-up is below:
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
    LR 5.3
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
    8GB Ram
    128GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD
1TB WD Green HD (where photos and catalog live)

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 crashing when making edits

I everyone. I migrated to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (I need to finish a couple of project before I can update the computer to CC and Mac OS 10.8.) and it's been crashing right from the begining. It's a random crash but my impression that it becomes more probable as the projects grow.
It happens whenever I'm editing and I press the shortcut for "overwrite" or "insert". (It also happens when I press the icon or move the clip to the timeline)
The screen message I get is this one:
The log message that I get afterwards goes as follows:
On previous days, I've been able to keep working just by deleting the Media database preview files from Premiere but it's not working anymore.
I'm working with XMF files shot with a Canon C300 synced using premiere to sound files (.wav). It only happens when I try to edit but it doesn't matter if I try to edit sound, sound and image or just image.
What it doesn't make sense is that it says something about "dynamic lynk" and, as far as I know, I'm not using dynamic link at all.
Thanks in advance for your time and wisdom
    Jaime From Spain

Now, a few updates after a very long night (just in case it might  help somebody)
Up until last night, I was saving my Premiere Projects in a Dropbox Folder inside my computer. It was a quick safe way of having a backup copy. Well, it seems that the crash is somehow related. Don't ask me why but once I moved the project file to a regular hard drive (actually a RAID0 where I keep my heavier files) the crashes have stopped.
This morning I went back to the dropbox idea with a new project and -Voilá!- after three hours of work, it crashed again. I moved the file to the RAID disk and no more crashes. My guess is that it is somehow related to the auto-save files that premiere keeps saving. Once it reaches a certain amount (around 20 in my experience) dropbox and Premiere start to do something weird and they crash the software... (It might be related to the software dropbox uses to keep your folders updated and keep backup versions of everything)
I'll run a few tests next week trying to keep the Auto-save files out of dropbox and just the regular files there to see what happens.
    Best regards
    Jaime
