Freeze when editing joboptions files in Acrobat 8.1

Our prepress department has 3 macs, 2x G5 Mac dual 1.8 ppc, and 1x Mac Intel 2x2.66 dual core processors. All are running Mac OS 10.4.11. Since we have upgraded to CS3, none of us can edit pdf colour settings in distiller. We can click on all the tabs and edit settings, except *color*, which does not change to the color settings box. Can't say *cancel* or *ok*, and if we try to save the settings we get *Error occurred writing to Adobe PDF settings file*, or *An error occurred trying to save the job options*. Most times we will have to quit or force quit Acrobat, as we can't get rid of the edit settings dialog box. Is anyone else having this experience??? I would really like to get this problem solved right away.

thanks for your reply.
we are each administrators on our respective computers. i did create a new admin account on my machine, and now can edit job option settings under the new account. i have done a repair disk, which showed no problems and repair permissions on the hard disk, which has not changed the problem on the original admin account. so, i suppose the easiest solution is to create new accounts for everyone, and delete the old ones?

  • Acrobat 7 freezes when combining multiple files

I'm running Acrobat 7 Standard, and whenever I attempt to combine multiple PDF files acrobat will freeze up completely. It can scan, and add pages to an open document with no trouble. It will freeze whether I choose Create PDF From Multiple Files within acrobat, or if I select multiple files in windows explorer, then right click and choose Combine in Acrobat...
I have cleared temporary files, repaired the program, and completely reinstalled the program. Even after a fresh reinstallation, it will lock up when trying to combine multiple files. It does everything else just fine.
I am running a HPCompaq dc5100 MT, with Windows XP Pro. I have 2GB ram, and a P4 3.2Ghz processor. I also have a database program called Laserfiche that I run, though this problem occurs whether I have Laserfiche open or not. I've already tried killing all acceptable processes (minus adobe's of course) and recreated the error. I've also tried this with the most recent update 7.1.0 and without: both yeild the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Dear all,
I think I have the same problem... or not ?!
=> When I try to open multiple files at the same time it opens only the 2 or 3 first ones then it freezes on the Spinning Beach Ball of Death !
=> Then it never completely finishes loading and freezes up Indesign.
=> I am unable to cancel the dialog box and have to use cmd+alt+esc to close the program
=> then, the files open directly on indesign when I open the program again (jus as if the files had been loaded and ready to go)
I am working on MAC OS X (10.7.3)
Anybody could help please ?? (sorry for my english... I'm a French native speaker)

  • JDEV TP3 freezes when editing big .jspx files

    Hi,
I have mainly worked with small files in JDEV TP3. At the moment I am testing the ADF Faces Rich table component. I have a huge table, the markup is over 700 lines long and when I edit this file JDeveloper freezes for several seconds, repeatedly. This occurs when I edit the file. Normal text input, copy and paste, selecting.
I tried to run JDeveloper with JDK 1.5 and 1.6.4. No difference. When I close and open the program. No difference. On all the other - smaller files < 100 lines everything works fine.

    Hi,
any chance you can provide a testcase ?

  • Random IE7 freeze when opening a PDF from Acrobat 9.1 Pro

We are having problems specifically with a PC with viewing PDF files in IE 7.0.  Now when viewing PDF files
on our special inhouse loan funding site, the browser will freeze and eventually an error message will come up "Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close".
    What I tried so far...
-Ran the Adobe update , it installed Acrobat Professional 9.1.1
-Did the Reset under the Advanced tab in Internet Properties.
-Re-enabled the adobe related IE plugins.
-Deleted everything from the users %temp% file.
    -Rebooted PC
I've asked our web application vendor if we could use a much better browser such as Firefox, Chrome, or even try IE8, but they said that it's not supported.

Ok, well this is an specialized web based application.  I tried opening the PDF's in a new window on my Windows 7 PC and I got them to open without the infinite loop like on a Windows XP machine.
Because that causes an infinite loop on Windows XP, we need the PDF to display in browser, which causes a conflict sometimes between IE and Adobe dll files.
So I've checked out a file that doesn't normally crash the IE/Acrobat9.4 user and checked the properties.
    Application: LiquidOffice Form Designer
PDF Producer: DocuCom PDF Core Library
    PDF Version: 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
    File Size: 253.77 KB
Now here's the properties of a PDF that intermittently crashes IE:
Application: Acrobat PDFMaker 8.1 for Word
PDF Producer: Acrobat Distiller 8.1.0 (Windows)
    PDF Version: 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
    File Size: 272.14 KB
Remember I said intermittently.  That's what's real difficult about the problem.  That same file might open 10 consecutive times before crashing.  OR it might crash on the first try.  When things aren't consistently broken it's very hard to troubleshoot the issue since there is no concrete evidence of a single underlying cause.  If it crashed every single time on that file, maybe we would say that its a corrupt file or there's an issue with the program that produced it.  That's not the case here.
Good idea as to looking at the version.  We could change the versions but we would need to open a request with the application developer, and updates to some of these forms takes weeks for them to integrate.

  • Adobe camera raw 6.6 freezes when editing

I have a pc, it freezes when switching from one photo to the next. This is a new occurrance and very annoying since I have to force close and start all over again. I process tons of action shots, and this is making it take forever. I have a newer computer with an excellent processor and lots of RAM. Like I said, it's a new development. Can anyone help?

In my case, Canon EOS 7D, on Windows 7, 64bit with all the latest updates.  On an HP DV7 laptop with an Intel i5 and 8 gigs of ram.
Photoshop is CS5 64bit from the Web Premium package.  I always shoot full res raw files in the adobe color space if that matters.
I also went back and tried with some older files from my EOS 40D and EOS 10D, same thing.
It always seems to be related to opening more than 10-12 files at a time in Camera Raw.  It will lock up when going from one file to the next by clicking on them in the left hand panel of camera raw window.  This is just doing normal editing operations, you don't have to double click or click real fast or anything special to get it to happen.
The only way to fix it is to kill the Photoshop process in the windows Task Manager process list.  Then clear the Camera Raw cache before opening again or else camera raw will not read the file it locked up on previously.
This has been happening very regularly since I updated to camera raw 6.6.
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • CS4 freezes when editing audio.

    Hello All,
I have a client that has a workstation that freezes when she edits audio in CS4.  I have seen it happen and what it does is it keeps playing the audio but Adobe CS4 freezes until the audio is done playing or when she kills CS4.  I have reinstalled Adobe CS4, talked to Adobe technical support, reloaded her workstation with Vista 64 bit, put in another hard drive for the page file, and ran through every troubleshooting document I could find on the forums and Adobes website.  Her workstation is a Core2Quad 2.4GHz and 4GB of ram with Vista 64 bit.
This is an on-going issue that needs to be solved ASAP and any help would be appreciated from other users.  I do not want to resort to calling Adobe technical support as I was not satisfied with their knowledge of their product.
    Thank you,
    Brian
Edit:  Harm Millaard chime in if you have any suggestions.  You seem to be very helpful on these forums.  Also, you have a very impressive computer setup and props to you for putting it together.

While I feel that the Assets, or the Project, are probably the culprits here, you might want to look over this ARTICLE on "tuning up" one's NLE computer. Might be something useful in it - if not now, then for later.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Both Safari & Chrome freezing when downloading a file

    Hi,
Ever since upgrading to Yosemite I'm having issues sometimes downloading files from browsers. I usually use Safari and I noticed that when clicking on file and selecting Download Linked File or Download Linked File As, Safari freezes and requires force quit. I had the same experience with Chrome. I'm specifically trying to download from Blackboard, if that makes any difference. The only way to fix this is to reboot. Also, perhaps this bug is related to Finder because today, Restart would not work. I had to manually force restart.
    Anyone else having this?

  • Freezes when exporting .mov files in CS4 / Adobe Media Encoder

For the past 7 hours now I have been trying every internet remedy for the following problem, and was wondering if any of you nice people could help:
I just came back from a ski trip, and wanted to make an edit featuring my fiends. I recorded large parts of the trip on my new iPhone, both in 720p 120fps (120.15fps, h.264 1280*720) and the normal 1080p 30fps. iPhone files are in the .mov format. I also recorded some parts on a GoPro hero hd2 camera at both 720p 60fps and 1080p 30fps. GoPro files are in the MP4 format, and i've never had a probvlem with them.
Now all imports fine into premiere pro, and although I had a few problems with freezing while editing initially, this was quickly solved by terminating all unused (non-adobe) processes in task manager.
So I spent a good 4 hours making a 2.5 minute edit of our day, and wanted to export it.
So I selected the sequence, and went file>export>media, selected all of the preferences i wanted for exporting, and sent it to the Adobe media encoder.
The media encoder loads the files for a few seconds, and then starts the encoding process. And promptly freezes. It freezes at around 10-20 seconds (depending on export preferences) after starting to encode, and never restarts. i can then pause the encode, but cancelling it crashes adobe media encoder and subsequently also crashes Premiere Pro.
I may be mistaken here, but I have a strong suspicion that It is quicktime that is causing all this.
    So I tried the following:
    - reinstalling, downgrading, updating, etc. Quicktime
    - renaming file extensions from .mov to .mp4
    - all sorts of export preferences, from image sequences to dvd to blueray and dv. (Image sequences, interestingly, occasionally export to about half a minute into the video(also depending on preferences), then freeze)
    - crossing my fingers
    - checking for gaps in video, found none
    - updating premiere pro and media encoder
    - throwing my mouse at the wall in frustration
    - making a new project with different settings and copying in the sequence
    - disabling "Include source xmp metadata"
    - making a new user account and trying it there
Is there anything else I can try?
Could I copy the project itself into a different program (e.g. iMovie or Windows Movie Maker) and export from there?
Is there an alternative to Adobe media encoder?
    Need more information?
    Thanks for the help!
    Specs:
    Premiere version: 4.2.1
    Encoder version: 4.2.0.006
    Comp specs:
    16Gb ram
    quad core i5
256 Gb solid state (system, program files are here)
2TB HDD (video files, scratch disk are here)
    Nvidia gtx 660 graphics
    Windows 64 bit
    1 monitor

I bought quicktime pro today to try this, but to no avail. it just freezes up again during export.
I tried some other fixes on that page, like renaming files to .mpg extension, which worked once during an export of a test sequence (although everything was shifted and it cut off the export at the gopro footage).
Is there any way I can export this project to another program to export it from there perhaps?
    Thanks for the help!

  • "Finding occurrences" error when editing .mxml file in Flash Builder 4.6 Premium (Trial)

I am evaluating Flash Builder 4.6.  Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I am trying to go through the Flex in a week training series but I am getting a lot of the "Finding occurrences" errors when editing the mxml files.
    The error:
An internal error occurred during: "Finding occurrences".
    java.lang.NullPointerException
This error occurs almost every time an xml tag is edited.
I can dismiss the error window that pops up by hitting 'Enter' and can continue editing the .mxml file but the error keeps repeating.
I was getting this error in the Day 1 set of exercises but after awhile the errors just stopped.
Now that I have imported the Day 2 starter projects, the error has started again but is occurring on almost every keystroke when editing an xml tag/element!.
Anyone have any ideas how to correct this issue?

Ok, I seemed to have found a solution/workaround for the error.
After importing the Day 2 starter projects, I did not exit and restart Flash Builder. After exiting/restarting Flash Builder, I can now edit the .mxml files without the annoying "Finding occurrences" errors.
