Freezes every time in the same place

It seems that ipods are a lot like horses, in that whenever they have a problem, no matter what it is, there is one remedy. Shoot it. Well, restore it to its factory settings anyway.
My 2nd gen ipod nano has been consistently freezing on me, always in the same place. When I first turn it on after having sync'd it with my computer, and navigate to the podcasts, when I select a podcast, as the screen is scrolling over and starting to play the podcast, it freezes, mid-scroll. I always have to restart it. This happens every time I start my ipod after a sync. Is there a remedy for this, or should I shoot it? (Or take it to the genius bar?)
Thanks
  Windows XP

I am also consistently seeing these exact symptoms:
2nd gen nano 4GB v. 1.1.1, formatted for Windows (though I am now using it exclusively on a Mac)
1) Sync iPod
2) Turn on and select a podcast
3) As the screen scrolls to begin playing, iPod freezes part-way & needs to be restarted
This happened previous to updating to 1.1.1, also.

I have 512GB SSD Drive which has 2 partitions. One for Mac OS X 10.9.4 (13E28) one for Windows 8 (which I'm not using) also I have Parallel Desktop App which I use once a month. Also I'm using TimeMachine + external HDD (do backups once in 2 weeks).
Everything was ok for 4 month. A month ago I've start experiencing freezes 1-2 a day and now it became worse, every hour. I've try to repair disk permissions, repair disk. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
I read in one of the website that some people fixed this issue updating ssd firmware. But I'm not sure where to get firmware for my ssd.
      Physical Drive:
Media Name: APPLE SSD SM0512F Media
      Medium Type: SSD
      Protocol: PCI
      Internal: Yes
Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
      S.M.A.R.T. Status: Verified

    Sorry I missed that.
This is what I think is happening:

There are two options, keep the Time Machine HDD connected full time or turn Time Machine off and on only when you want to make the backup.
    Ciao.

  • Snow leopard freezing every hour at the same time

    Hi all,
I've been having freezing problems with my macbook pro. I'm running 10.6.4 and have noticed that every hour to the exact minute, my computer will be unresponsive for approximately 30 seconds to a minute, and then returns back to normal.
The time that it freezes will vary from day to day, ie some days it will freeze at 7 minutes past the hour all day, other days it will freeze at 19 minutes past the hour every hour.
This has only been happening for possibly the last month, and I have no idea what is the cause. I've used console to see if get any error messages, but nothing is coming up. I'm not using time machine. I've tried restoring disk permissions.
I'm not sure whether this is a macbook pro related thing or a snow leopard related problem so excuse me for posting this in both forums.
    Please help!

Unfortunately I can't currently find my snow leopard install dvd (seeing I've moved houses twice since I've installed it)
You're likely to need it, sooner or later. If you suspect hardware problems, for example, the +Apple Hardware Test+ on it is tailored to your Mac's hardware. If you can't find it, AppleCare will send you a replacement for a nominal charge.
If the file system on your HD is ok, and the hang occurs at exactly 60-minute intervals, then it must be related to some periodic process running on your Mac.
I'd have expected another message in your logs. There may be something that doesn't show in Console's +All Messages+ selection.
In the Console sidebar, select your system.log file; it's the first one shown in the Files folder. The I/O message should be there; confirm that they occur every hour, and see what other messages are near it in time. Again, if theres's anything dire-sounding, copy and post here.
Also open the various folders, looking for one or more named HangReporter. If you find any, look inside. Each process that generated a log there will be named in the sidebar, along with the date & time. That may provide a clue (please don't copy a whole log here; just the beginning page or so).

  • We have tried to restore our ipod but we get a message from Microsoft saying itunes must shut down.  It happens every time at the same point in the download.  We've even gone to the Apple store and had the unit DFU restored.  Please help.

The message we get when we try to restore says "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down."  We're trying to restore.  The ipod is currently in the DFU restore mode.  How do we get it to complete the restore?

  • HELP!  My iMovies HD 6.0.3 are freezing up in the same place!

I have been using iMovie for years now, and I have never had any problems that I can't figure out some type of solution for. But no, all of a sudden, I'm having MAJOR issues!! I have two movies that I made that are freezing up always in the same place. I didn't know it was an issue until I made about 40 DVDs of the movie I put into iDVD, and everyone that received the DVD reported to me that the dvd froze in the same spot. I went into iMovie to see if it was happening there, and sure enough, it was.
I thought maybe it was a RAM issue, but I checked another, much smaller movie, and it is doing the same thing- although I made one DVD that worked from that movie, it is now freezing too.
I thought maybe a section of the movie somehow got corrupted, so I deleted the scene that was freezing, but the movie still froze at about the same spot- but now during a different scene.
The big movie I made was a huge project for me, very time consuming because I recorded an elementary musical and used 2 different performances from 3 different cameras each show. So I REALLY do NOT want to have to start from scratch- especially since I am nervous that it might happen again.
    Any ideas or suggestions??!!!
I've searched other posts, and I haven't come across anything specifically like this. However, I did try deleting the com.apple.iMovie.plist file based on something that sounded similar. This did nothing.
    THANKS!!!!!

Did You install iLife08 ? If so - YOU NEED TO upgrade iMovie to 6.0.4 !
*No, I didn't upgrade because of the memory issues with iMovie and iDVD...*
    Second thought:
Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? > 10Gb or rather 25Gb.
Free space on external hard disk - if relevant. 13Gb per hour movie + about
double space to be able to do any editing to it.
*I did this... I moved all of my video files over to an external hard drive so that I would have plenty of hard drive space. (Thanks for the numbers though- I have never had anyone spell out the actual memory needs per hour- very helpful!!)*
    Third thought:
If there is an external hard disk - IT HAS TO be formatted Mac OS Extended
(Buy in Apple Store is no guarantie - usually DOS/UNIX/FAT32 formatted - not OK)
*I am not working from any type of external hard disk with these movies.*
I'm still open for suggestions though!!
Oh, I also tried watching the iMovie file on my older eMac, and it froze at exactly the same spot... seems like an issue with the actual file, doesn't it?? I'm baffled!! Is it possible there is some sort of corruption or something??
    THANKS!!!!!

  • My iTunes movie rental freezes during the opening credits always at the same place.

my iTunes movie rental freezes during the opening credits always at the same place.  What is the cure?  Can I recieve credit for the rental since I could not view it in its entirerty?

    Hi Epski
Let us know how you go as i'm having the same issue also. I upgraded to yosemite and itunes 12 at the same time and thought the OS upgrade was the issue. I downgraded back to Mavericks again (for lots of reasons i won't go in to here) thinking this would fix the problem but it didn't.
When i play any video content from itunes 12 in full screen goes dark once the controls fade away. QT, appletv or anything else plays them perfectly, as per itunes 11!
You don't have a Samsung TV by any chance do you?

Do you have crash reports with a "bp-" prefix that were submitted and that show a crashing thread?

I sometimes have blue and red square-shaped dots appear on my MBP; especially but not exclusively when I'm watching videos.  The dots don't stay in the same place; and also they are not there all the time.  Also, sometimes my animations (applications opening, windows being dragged, etc.) will glitch as well.  Again, this is not a continual thing; it just happens variously throughout my day.  MBP Model A1212, OS X 10.6.8, 2.33 Ghz 3GB RAM.

Did the original songs that do not appear on the car player play in the Music app on the iPod? Sometimes glitches happen and they do not. Also, If y ohave a 5G iPod/iOS 7, purchase songs  will show with an cloud icon by them if they are not downloaded if Shall All is turned on in Settings>iTunes and App Store

After resetting my backbook pro to factory settings, it freezes every time it boots up. What's the problem?

by the way, you can also try to safe boot up your mac for safe mode. maybe it can work and you can deal with problem there.
    for safe boot:
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

  • I use a mac ios and shoot raw in a cannon 5d mark ii and shortly upon import of my images lightroom darkens and changes my images. This has happened before but not every time. The strange part is my last shoot had the same camera setting but this did not

I use a mac ios and shoot raw in a cannon 5d mark ii and shortly upon import of my images lightroom darkens and changes my images. This has happened before but not every time. The strange part is my last shoot had the same camera setting but this did not happen. The images i have now i can not use after lightroom has automatically altered them even if i try editing back to how they looked upon import

First thing to do is to change the default camera profile applied in Lightroom to camera standard (assuming that you shoot Canon or Nikon). Also make sure that your camera is NOT set up to use any of the HDR modes. Nikon calls those Active Dynamic Lighting. On Canons you often see things like highlight priority mode or "Auto Lighting Optimizer". Make sure that the picture style is set to standard and that for newer Canons the HDR mode is turned off. Most of the HDR modes simply underexpose the image and then add an instruction in the raw file to compensate for this to prevent highlights from being blown out. This causes more noise in the shadows and if you know what you are doing there is no point to this as you should simply expose correctly and get the highest quality raw.
Lastly, make sure that in Lightroom you have not checked "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" in Preferences->Presets. This should make the default rendering of the raw files the same as the in-camera jpeg (what the camera shows on the back even if you shoot raw) but still give you all the latitude of raw files.

Does your iTunes see your nano?
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
If so, then follow through this:
    How to reset iPod
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
If not, do one or more of the following
    Restart your computer
Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes [Windows XP] [Windows Vista & 7]
Reset iPod (will NOT delete everything)
Go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista & 7) and see if it shows
    Restore iPod (WILL delete everything)
Make sure iTunes and iOS firmware is up to date.
    Hope all this helps.

There's no specific error code, but a link to contact support for further assistance. It doesn't take me to customer support, but does take me to a screen which states.
