Freezes on back up

when attempting to synch iPhone 4 with HP tablet running Windows 7 and altest iTunes, my process - and whole system - seizes up at "backing-up, step 1 of 5" and requires a hard restart.
What to do?

1. Disable ALL security software running on your computer (firewall, antivirus/spyware, etc.)
2. Uninstall and reinstall iTunes and ALL other Apple software.
"hard" reset - no such thing (only one type of phone reset) See Appendix B of the User Guide.

Time machine freezes during back-up.

Time machine freezes during back-up. Have to unplug HD before I can regain controll over Time Machine In System Preferences. Tried loading folders the old fachion way—sometimes freezes during that also.
At first I thought I had a bad exteral HD, but I am on my fourth and still the same problem. My first Time Machine HD (THAT WORKED) now has the same problem.
I have been working with someone with apple support for weeks. We just replaced the interal HD, and still have the same problem. My iMac is only five months old

you sure this is a Mac Pro and not a MacBook Pro first. Most every report of issues with bus powered like Passport are best solved using a drive case with its own power instead.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Ipod freezes on back up

When I conntect my ipod (64), it freezes on the second step on the sync (the back up). I have the latest software on both my computer and on the ipod, but it keeps freezing at this stage and will not advance to step three, four or five. It works fine when not plugged into the computer, but freezes when I plugged it in and want to add new music.

What worked for me was to force restart the iPhone (while disconnected from docking station) SEVERAL times. After 1 force restart I would connect to the Mac and it would have an error.
I took someone's advice and restarted the iPhone 3 times, then the Mac... made sure I had latest iTunes software, and restored the iPhone to full capacity.

Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

Match frame from a freeze frame back to its motion clip?

I can't get back to the motion clip I used to pull my freeze frame. It only goes back to the freeze frame master clip, even if I use match frame to source file. Any ideas?

The freeze frame you pulled from a clip should have the clip name and timecode from where it was grabbed from.
Go back to the source video clip at the matching timecode and you will find where you grabbed it from.

Freezing on back up

I went to back up my HD to an external enclosure the other night and it froze the entire system. Running SilverKeeper makes this happen and simply dragging and dropping also initiates the freeze.
There was a 300 GB Seagate within the enclosure. I swapped it out for a 40 GB IBM after formatting it to zeros did not work. The 40 GB reacts in the same exact way. The only thing i havent tried yet is to run a different external in this manner.
I'm concerned that it might have something to do with my recent update to 10.4.7 or possibly the use of the other firewire port for iSight. Does anybody have any suggestions over and above trying a different external?

Backing everything up is definitely the smartest thing you can do before changing anything with any computer! Be sure to verify the backups --- you don't want to go through the horror story of backing up, erasing a drive, and then discovering there was a problem with the backup.
As long-standing practise, I'd disconnect any external hard drives before reinstalling the OS. I've never bothered to disconnect printers, USB hubs, etc. or network cables when updating or installing the OS. With an external drive with current firmware and OS X 10.4, you aren't supposed to really need to disconnect any external hard drives before installing, but I don't know of anyone who's actually felt inclined to test that --- it's easier to just play it safe and disconnect the external hard drives.
If your OS X Install disc is 10.4.2 or latter, you can run Disk Utility> repair Disk from the Installer menu and see if that updated version of Disk Utility finds and repairs any directory problems with the hard drive. It sounds as if Tech Tool found something along thos elines but was unable to make the repair. DiskWarrior is the preferred utility for directory problems, although both Tech Tool Pro 4 and Drive Genius have favorable reviews as well. Note that it's crucical to use only the latest, Tiger-compatible version of any disk repair utility; earlier versions can make matters worse.
If whatever disk utility you use reports making repairs to the hard drive, repeat the repair until you get an all-clear report or it becomes obvious that the utility in use can't actually make a repair.
With a full backup on hand, you could choose to do an erase and install rather than a reinstall or an Archive and Install. By writing zeros to the hard drive before installing, you force the hard drive's firmware to update it's map of bad disk sectors.

Can anyone help me with this! It unusually plays my songs backwards, stops and replays, twitches, freezes, ... really annoying!
I tried backing up my library and reinstalling iTunes. Nothing helps.
Seems I'm the only one with this problem!

if you create a new (temporary) admin user account, log into that, and fire up iTunes, what happens ?
you may have to import a couple of tunes for testing. you can drop a couple in the shared folder on account A, and add them to the library of account B from there.

Itunes freezes playing back movie

This is the first time I have used itunes
I purchased the kids movie Ratatouille this morning. It downloaded just fine. When I tried to play it this evening, after 22 seonds, itunes just completely freezes up. I also tried to play it using quicktime and got the same results.
I have Vista, if it matters.
Anyone know how to fix this kind of thing??
Does itunes not work with Vista??

I am running Vista 32 and have the latest iTunes and Quicktime apps on a new Gateway desktop with dual core and lots of RAM. iTunes is fine until I click on the movies section and my whole system freezes. I have to hard reboot in order to recover.
I tried playing a movie in Quicktime by locating it in the iTunes folder and playing it -- system crashes again. Very frustrating. I tried multiple movies with the same results. I believe this is a compatibility issue with Quicktime and Vista.
I have searched endlessly on newsgroups and google searches for a fix. I see many folks posting similar issues, but no one has received an answer from Apple. Apple needs to address this quickly before they start losing more market share. Why purchase a movie if we can't play it??

I have been trying to update my iphone 3gs to iso 5 but itunes freezes on backing up my phone

I have tried on a few occasions to update my iphone 3GS to iso 5. Once connected it i click to back it up, a box comes up with a bar in it. It can stay like that for hours, i left it 4 hours & it hadn't moved. I deleted itunes all of it. Then reinstalled it & its still the same. Can anybody help solve this problem?

You have an iPhone 3G.
Apple stopped support for iPhone 3G after 4.2.1. Therefore the highest software version for the iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd generation is 4.2.1
Only iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3 and iPod touch 4 can go beyond 4.2.1.
Also, there's nothing wrong with iTunes.

Pretty self-explanatory. I've tried re-installing iTunes, but still no luck. I don't know what else to do. It does this with my iPod as well. I haven't had a propper back-up or sync in months. The iPhone is brand new and my iPod is a year old.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, Sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:
