  • Can you freeze frame with the imovie app. and save the freeze frame to a picture

Can I freeze frame on the iMovie app and turn the freeze frame into a picture?

Experiencing the same issue. Fired up iMovie for the first time today and created 2 movies. The first was 35 seconds long and the 2nd was 1 min 45 seconds long. Got all my pics loaded up and added a song from my personal collection. Plays perfectly from the phone. The problem occured when I tried to export the larger movie. The first time I tried, it sat at the exporting movie status bar (without moving) and then closed the app. After relaunching the app, it told me that my audio file had been removed from the phone. After closing and re-opening the iMovie app again, my movie project played fine through the app but as soon as I tried to export again it rebooted my phone. I tried exporting on all 3 size options (Medium, Large, HD) and it did not matter. I tried multiple songs thinking perhaps that was my issue, but each one did the same thing. I tried the lock-screen time-out fix but that didn't help either. I have no problems exporting my smaller movie file (35 seconds)using any of the export sizes. This leads me to believe that the issue is soley related to the length of the project...or perhaps the number objects located in the project. In either case, it's definitely an app issue. I do love the app though...when it works.

  • Freeze frame in the middle of a clip?

For an instructional DVD, I need to be able to freeze a frame in the middle of a clip, without the sound (as I'll put up some text messages).
I've ended up making copies of the clip, and using the hold condition, and trying to line them all up by hand, but this doesn't seem like an ideal way to do this.
Also, is there an easy way to turn off the sound for the 'hold' part of the end of a clip? Would be nice if there were a boolean I'd overlooked, but I guess I'll have to open my "Spencer's" Motion 4 book, and try to remember how audio keyframing works?

As mentioned by others, it's best to perform this effect in FCP. Bring your Motion project back into FCP and place the playhead where you want to freeze the frame. Press shift/n to create a still image in the Viewer. Blade the clip at the playhead and perform an insert edit to add the freeze frame. Cutting out the audio in FCP is easy as well and there's several ways to go about it. I would simply blade the audio at the freezing point and drag the remainder of the audio to snap to the point where the motion starts up again, depending on the type of audio effect you are looking for.
Although there aren't any behaviors in Motion that affect audio in that fashion (except for Audio fade in/out behavior) you can still edit the audio somewhat in Motion. Just go to the Audio Editor Tab and adjust the levels there or press ⌘6 to reveal the Audio Tab then right click the audio file to duplicate the audio file, set an out point for the first audio clip in the Audio Editor Tab where you want it to freeze, note the frame, and on the duplicated audio file set the in point at the same frame that was set for the first audio clips out point, then place the duplicated audio clip were you'd like the audio to resume.

  • Deleted Frame, never closed iMovie, nor finalized, but cannot get it back....

    Help!!
My wife was editing a project on iMove '11, and deleted the last frame, which was a picture, rolling credits and music, along with a dozen or so other frames, beginning with this, the last frame, and working back towards the beginning.  She never closed the program, not finalized anything, but when doing control Z to undo each detetion, they all came back, with the excepion of the very first one deleted, which would have been the last frame of the imovie project.
How can we get that back?
We have not closed iMovie, not done anything overtly to finalize the project.
Please advise as to how to recover the rest of the movie, or if there is some way to quit the whole thing, such that it will revert back to the unedited complete version.
    Thank you!!

I realize that, however, that would not solve, nor explain the fault found with iMovie, and would require one to basically keep an external drive attached to my macbook pro 24/7, while doing continuous and instan time machine backups.  There are many easier ways to prepare oneself in advance of these issues happening, which would be much less cumbersome than the above, however, my post was not about this, but about the functionality, or lac thereof, of iMovie, in this situation, and my attempt to see if I was missing some other avenue to recover (or undo) these changes.
Clearly, had I made a copy of the project, and then worked with the copy, this issue would not have been anything more thn a minor inconvenience, so it's really our "fault" for being in this situation.
What troubles me more than our own foolishness is Apple's continued stance that their products, be it hardware or software, never fail, and never have issues or bugs.  And that whatever is found on the internet, no matter how prevelant, is BS, most likely a "conspiracy" by some nefarious folks looking to sully the good name of Apple, and even more amazng is that none of the sr. technical advisors have "never heard of this", so I guess Apple must filter out anything negative on the internet, nor let them view these very forums.
As are seemingly most photo and movie professionals I work with in California, I am so fed up with Apple that I am looking at going back to PC based systems, and Microsoft based software, to process our workflow.  Apple has clearly thrown the professionals under the bus, at least in my opinion.
If anyone else has anything to offer, other than to use a back up copy of the project, in order to allow us to recover the deleted frame, I would appreciate it.  In the intermin, we will simply have to recreate it.
Thank you to all who take the time to read and attempt to help us.
And good luck in all your Apple related endeavors.....I hope your such problems are few and far between!

  • Can i freeze frame picture from imovie

Can i freeze frame a picture from imovie?

Go to the iMovie menu and choose "About iMovie." It will tell you there.
The latest you were able to download will depend on what operating system you are running.

  • Is it possible to move a freeze-frame from an imovie(9.0.2) clip to iphoto?

Is it possible to move a freeze-frame from an imovie(9.0.2) clip to iphoto?

Yes. You will need to download and install a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
In iMovie, locate the video clip that contains the still you want. Right-click on the video clip and select REVEAL IN FINDER. You should see this clip highlighted in the Finder. Drag this video clip into MPEG Streamclip.
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the video frame that you want to make a still from. Click FILE/CREATE FRAME...
You can choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name and location.

  • Entire frame of mini-dv video clips do NOT show in the iMovie '11 viewer in playback mode

I am editing a wedding video in iMovie11 that was recorded on a mini dv tape.  When I move video clips from the event library to the timeline, the entire frame is displayed in the timeline.  However, the entire frame of the video clip does NOT show in the iMovie viewer or when I playback the video.  I exported the video and burned it to a dvd using Toast 11 pro.  The video recorded to the dvd as it was showing in the iMovie viewer... the full frame does not show.  I would certainly appreciate any advice as to how to solve my problem.  THANK YOU!!!

Is your video shot in 16:9 aspect ratio or 4:3?
You can go to File/Project Properties and set the aspect ratio for the project.
When you get a clip that does not match the project's aspect ratio, you use the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns tool on the middle toolbar to specify how it should be treated.
FIT will place the entire clip in the movie, and will letterbox (black bars) so that it fits.
CROP will fill the screen, but will cut off the top and bottom of your frame.

  • Adjust frame rate in iMovie?

Have some video made on a Canon G9 digital rangefinder camera that was shot in a stop freeze frame mode instead of reg video. Is there a way to slow down the frame rate in iMovie. This clip is mixed with a bunch of still photos and other video clips shot in normal mode, and it looks a bit too jumpy.
    Thx

    No.
iM offers only standard conform framerates (25/29.97), and does not offer any effects as slow-mo

  • HELP!  Video Freezes One Second before the end of the Clip!

I just started using iMovie about a month ago. So far so good.
All of sudden, whenever I put two clips together or edit out a section of a video, the end of the first clip always freezes for about 1 second and then goes on to the next clip.
Sometimes, one or two frames from the excised clip will pop up really fast between the two clips. When I try to edit the two frames out, it starts freezing the end of the first clip.
I've seen this asked a time or two on the forum but got no response.
    Please help!

You should try trashing iMovie's preference file:
    Close iMovie. Go YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. Don't worry. iMovie will create a new fresh one when you reopen it.
Open iMovie. See if the problem with the clips has resolved.
Note: if you also have iMovie 8 on your computer, the plist for it will call it imovie7, so be sure to trash the appropriate file.

  • Better frame shots in iMovie than Final Cut?

Whenever I try to capture a frame in FC to save as a jpg, it always comes out super blurry but when I capture the same frame in iMovie, it comes out perfectly clear. Why is this happening? Is there something different I should do?

In FC are you capturing the frame by going file - export- quicktime conversion - format - still image, options - jpeg ?
You may need to apply the 'de-interlace' filter to the clip (or part of the clip - it's pointless de-interlacing a long clip if you're only using a small part for the still image)
or you could go 'modify' - 'make freeze frame' then apply the de-interlace filter to the freeze frame before exporting using the QT conversion. (you can specify the length of the freeze frame in the FCE menu, choosing 'user preferences' and selecting the 'editing' tab.)

  • I had completed my iDVD project and burned a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the project and put a red frame around the opening screen. Now when I burn the project, it no longer has the opening frame. How can I fix?

I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to do frame-by-frame editing in iMovie 08 and export in H264?

I wish to edit some videos and then export them in H264 so I can use them on a website.
I have tried to edit with iMovie 08 but can only edit second-by-second. I want to edit frame-by-frame ie to the millisecond. And it appears that iMovie 08 does not export in H264.
I have looked at iMovie 11 which has a Precision Editor which would work to edit as I want but for that I would have to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard which I don't want. It would export H264.
I also have QuickTime Player 7 Pro but that too seems to edit only by the second not by the frame; it does however seem to produce H264
How can I edit these videos precisely and produce H264? Is there another application which would work better (and doesn't cost a fortune).
    Thanks for any ideas

iMovie exports in h.264 by default. All the presets are h.264 (except Tiny).
If you need to adjust the h.264 in some way, then SHARE.EXPORT USING QUICKTIME.
To edit to the nearest frame, Go to iMovie/Preferences and select Display Time Codes.

  • Quicktime Frames Play in iMovie but Not Exported File

I recently imported a quicktime movie clip (.mov) into imovie to use in a new project. I added the quicktime frames to the project and when I viewed the project in imovie everything displayed as expected. When I exported the project to itunes and tried to play, only the still images that were included in the project were displayed, none of the quicktime movie frames were include. I figured maybe itunes didn't like the quicktime frames so I exported the project as a quicktime movie and the original quicktime frames still did not display.
I'm new to mac so I really stumped as to what I could be doing wrong. I was simply trying to create a screencast so I used snapz to create the original quicktime movie, could that be it?
    Please help!

Yes. There are many posts here on this issue, but it is not always obvious how to search for them. Snapz by default uses the Animation codec, which in iMovie exports as a black screen. The solution is to 1) convert your clip to a supported codec, and 2) for future clips created in SnapzProZ, use a supported codec like h.264, AIC, etc.
For posts by the experts on this topic, do a search on "Animation Codec" in this forum.
