Freezing and concurrent line in open window

Over the last 3 weeks I have been having my mac pro freeze up and become unresponsive to any input requiring a hard reboot from the power button. This freeze is associated with the open window having a line through it. It is a thin horizontal line that occurs in various sections of the page. I have noticed this occur occasionally without a concurrent freeze as well. It stays put as the widow scrolls and otherwise works properly. This line can also occur in the desktop. To me it sounds like a graphics card problem. Has anyone had similar experience?

Same problem, it used to come and go in fits but right now it's dying. I'm lucky to type this. Now the screen will go blank, no warning. Screen tearing all the time. Green lines through videos etc etc

Sorry, I am new to the type of problem-solution process and I do not know how to edit my first statement. My true statement is below:
My pdf freezes when I click on COMMENT. I am trying to get at the tools to edit a pdf. If I use the tools from the toolbar, there is no issue, but once I click COMMENT, the document freezes and I have to open Task Manager to crash it. This started in the last seven days (3.31.15).

I answered your questions below, BUT while I was searching for properties, I found the REPAIR ACROBAT INSTALLATION feature, did the repair and (Voila!) the issue was resolved!
Thanks for making me search for information.

I am using Acrobat XI Pro, version 11.0.10.32.
I did not create the file I was working in during the freezes, so I tried a PDF that I created with Adobe and it also freezes when I click on COMMENT. I did discover that the COMMENTS plug-in is loaded. (see image
I have used COMMENT for years without this issue occurring. It started in the last 2 weeks.
I could not find Properties under the file menu, but found a security setting in Preferences under the Edit menu. It did not have a way to allow/disallow COMMENT.

  • Thunderbird freezes and takes forever to open "write window" when I try to send emails

I'm using Thunderbird 31.4.0 and when I wanna send an email Thunderbird freezes and it takes forever (in this case 20+ seconds) for the "write" window to open and ALLWAYS with the recipient left out.... and oh please don't get me started on how long forever is when I try to reply an email........
    Thanks

I'm using AVG Internet Security 2015 and I should perhaps also mention that I have a chosen few Thunderbird add-ons (adblock, email security and a few others) installed and that it works "so-so" when I run Thunderbird in "safe mode".

  • Firefox freezing, and eventually crashing when opening a tab?

Just yesterday this started, at first youtube videos froze the browser (but I could still hear them playing) and now I can't even open a tab without firefox freezing and just eventually having to end the process. It was working perfectly before yesterday.

Can you run Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]? If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
Also, please go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page. Some of them are out of date and you'll need to update those first before we can proceed further.
By the way, you can view Youtube videos in HTML5 now instead of in Flash. All you need to do is to click the link at the foot of this page: http://www.youtube.com/html5 There's nothing to download and you don't have to fill in any forms. The player will switch automatically once you click that link.

  • CS6 Photopshop, Illustrator and Indesign crash upon opening Window 8 64-bit.

Runnning Genuine CS6 Photopshop, Illustrator and Indesign crash upon opening  without any error message... worked fine then stopped working.  Running it on Window 8 64-bit.  Have tried opening without 3d party plugins, resetting preferences, and uninstalling and reinstalling.

    did you clear the caches?
and onthe off-chance that ID got far enough to leave something behind, find the InDesign Recovery folder (a hidden folder, I think, since Snow Leopard or Lion) and empty it if there's anything there.

  • Open popup window and bring text to opener window jsp [help~]

how to click a button then open popup window.
and add somthing in the popup window, that can bring the text in the popup window to opener window in jsp.

This is a javascript/html question, and has nothing to do with Java/JSP.
You could do it with plain javascript/html using window.opener.
I would recommend using something like a [YUI 2 Panel|http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/container/panel/] to do it.
Opening new windows is a thing of the past.

  • MacBook freezes and distorted lines appear.

    Hi All,
Sorry to be a pest, but another display related problem has just cropped up on my MacBook. Sometimes when I start up my MacBook or sometimes when I wake it up from sleep, it freezes and a bar of distorted lines appears on the screen. Have a look at this:
    http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/6862/img2058f.jpg
The only way to get out of it is to switch it off. So far this has only happened shortly after starting up or waking up. There's a month left on my one year of Apple Care so I need to work out what's wrong as soon as possible.
    Thanks,
    Chris

The advice I was given by Apple Support seemed to work for about a week - not one single crash. Given that my MacBook had started crashing almost every time I started it up or woke it up, I was very pleased that resetting the PRAM etc seemed to have worked.
It started crashing again so I called Apple Support, at which point I was told I was no longer eligible for telephone support, even though I had been given advice and a case number just a week before! Slightly confusing. I bought the MacBook from KRCS in Leeds, so I emailed them and explained what had happened. They immediately recognised it as a hardware fault and told me to bring it in - no messing about. It was sent away for repair today and should be back in my grubby little hands in a fortnight.
I'm slightly annoyed at Apple Support for giving me dodgy advice. Whatever it is they told me to do, it did have an effect - possibly circumventing the problem in some way, rather than solving it.
Anyway, hopefully all will be well in a fortnight.

  • FCP keeps freezing and having to re-open.

I downloaded Final Cut Pro and used it to design a lyric video for my Radio Disney Fan Club. The video turned out well, but about 5 or 6 times while designing, the program had the frozen circle in replacement of my mouse and that shut down and had to re-open. I was thinking maybe there's not enough space on my MacBook, so I really cleared out my files, but it still frozen and had to re-open after that. Anyone else having the same problem or know how to fix it??

Trashing preferences is certainly useful, but I wouldn't agree that it's the first thing to do when you're new to FCP X.
This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance.
Make sure you're using the latest version - FCP X 10.0.3 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.3.
First, check that you have at least 20% free space on the Hard Drive that your System and your Media, Projects and Events are on.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Check the spec of your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
Create Optimised media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
If you are short of drive space, use ProRes 422 Proxy (FCP X Preferences > Playback) - but remember to select High Quality when you export your movie.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot.
Move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD (make sure it's formatted OS Extended - with journaled on or off) and run from there.
Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

  • Lots of crashing, freezing, and strange lines on screen after recent update

I dutifully update the software when asked and suddenly I have all the following symptoms. Any advice? Thanks!
    AD
    1. A small line appears in some windows; it's multi-colored and about 3 pixels high. It goes away when I resize or play with the window.
    2. My computer crashes more often when being woken up from sleeping by pressing the mouse button; I will press my mouse to wake up the computer and it just shuts off. This has happened for the past year but happens much more frequently this week after the recent update. I took it in to the apple store months ago and they could not repeat it. It happened 3x today.
    3. A few programs have frozen / stopped responding, way too more frequently than normal.
    Thanks!
    AD

Hi again Andy, I don't make it over here to Leo very often.
    Here's what I'd try...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
Leo clears a lot more caches than Tiger does in Safe boot.

  • Cannot use Mac 10.9.4 at all freezing and apps will not open

I am not able to open the apps on my Macbook Pro OS X 10.9.4, they just bounce.  Activity Monitor gets so frozen I cannot find out what the hold up is.  Screen freezes in some of the system preferences as well - Users, Parent Controls Accessibility.  I do not have a disk, no disk drive to reinstall.  I am very new to Mac, please help
    marcyg

Do you have at least 4 GBs of RAM installed and at least 20 GBs of free space on your hard drive.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My Photoshop freezes and then won't open? Help?

    Hi all,
I am running CS6, but over the past fe wmonths it has started acting strange.  When I go to save the file, sometimes as a PSD and other times as a jpeg or gif, the program freezes up on me and I get the spinning beachball.  I have to force quit the program and I loose all my progress.. which is a huge bummer.  After that I can't even open photoshop and I have to restart my computer.  The icon just bounces and bounces and then stops... so I have to restart.
Any ideas?  How can I fix this?
    -jon

Sorry, I forgot to include that!  I'm runnign OSX 10.9.2, and I've got 580 gigs available on my 1TB internal hard drive.
And now, after my last restart, photoshop wont respond at all.  I click on the launch icon and it doesn't do anything... no bounce, no splash screen, etc... hmmmm

when i start open mozilla i cant click on any, first i thought its becoz kaspersky update, but when update is finish i still cant click also i cant close it, its running but cant click and close, so i must restart my laptop to close mozilla..i also allready uninstall mozilla and download again but it still cant help.. what should i do?
    hope you can help me.

Firefox may become very slow to respond because of badly coded JavaScript causing infinite loops on certain websites [28]. This problem can usually be cleared by closing the window or tab for that website. You can also temporarily disable JavaScript to view the problem site, but the website may not work without JavaScript. Read Firefox CPU usage for more information and also see the related article,Unresponsive Script Warning.
If the web site hangs Firefox (you can't even exit Firefox) try running in Safe Mode and see if you can get an Unresponsive Script Warning. Watch the status bar and see if this frequently occurs while it mentions a specific URL. If so, try blocking that URL using a content-blocker such as Adblock Plus. The problem URL may be fetching an advertisement or side panel that you can do without.
If none of this helps, try using a different browser (such as IE or Opera) or try accessing the site at another time. This might help you determine if the problem lies with Firefox, a poorly designed website, or content that changes over time, such as ads.
