Freezing and issues on STB Model QIP7216

So I've had Verizon FIOS now almost a year. I'm on a QIP7216 STB running version 1.7.
I've been experiencing problems in the following areas;
• Recorded programs freeze upon play back. STB also seems to freeze momentarily hang until last command can process/complete itself.
• These same programs (sometimes not all the time) can experience pixelazation
• Multi-Room DVR playback on recorded programs also do the same. The recorded event seems to have been recorded with the freezing in the recorded session. Therefore any playback of that recorded item experiences the freezing.
• Regular program playback intermittently experiences freezing (just watching TV sometimes I experience freezing)
• Recorded programs (sometimes) are recorded in chunks where up to 4 events appear as the same recorded event. The program is chopped up and divided over several listings with random lengths. (this appears to be some sort of reset on the STB and it goes back into record mode once it resets)
Background Story: All this occurred after I requested and placed an order for Verizon to move my STB HD DVR from one side of my house to another. At the time of the placed order request was made I was asked by service person on the phone if I wanted to experienced HBO/Cinimax for 3 months free. I said yes (That was where things went bad)
Possible Solution and Resolution: Here is what I think happened based off what I've found in the Fourm and what I've troubleshoot myself. I found out when I had my STB's installed I had too high of a Coax Signal (Called SNR for you Verizon Techies) coming into the STB's (Common install issue!!!) Contractors who do the installs do not check for this. Typically FIOS Signal coming into house terminated with a very high signal strength, this signal is call SNR signal, If your SNR is too high you have to place attenuators on the end of your COAX before plugging into your STB. The signal strength must be approx -6db my STB's ranged from +18 to +8. I have 3 STB's in my house. After placing the Attenuators on the signal registered just under -1 almost -2. Second Possible Solution that seems to have resolved my problems: I noticed that once my HBO/Cinimax order went through I started to notice the Freezing began. I found in the Forum that this is caused by a problem where the STB holds on to old codes after the programming is upgraded. To fix this you need to call support Request the TECH perform a Soft INIT (Not a Hard INIT this will cause you to lose all your DVR Programs However, if they are crappy and messed up from Freezing you'll most likely have to erase them anyways) (Don't do the reset over the web, this Soft INIT is a different Init) The soft INIT will cause the codes to come back down to your STB and program your STB for the proper programming.

Hello Internetkid ,
For your possible solutions and resolution you are on the right track.  The issue I see with what you have done is putting the attenuators on the end of the coax.  With Fios, a lot of the features run on moca (multimedia over coax alliance).  The attenuators  at the end of the coax prevent the moca from flowing properly. To prevent this place the attenuators  on the feed or input going to the main splitter, or to each splitter that feed your stbs.  This will eliminate pixelation on vod, mrdvr.  Another option is to replace the main splitter with a splitter that has more db loss to it (ie: 6 or 8 prt splitter)  this will most likely eliminate the need for attenuators.

As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...

    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.

It is more stable than the regular version.
You could use your original install disc and boot from the disc, run Disc Utility and do a repair disk.

  • Issues with freezes and HD problem from DU

I could write multiple pages about all the symptoms and everything that happened, but knowing that many won't read it anyway here is a short story of what happened to my MBP. Please help me out if you can!
Lately my MCP13 has been freezing and the only way was to get it out was shutting it off and turning it on. Once I couldn't boot it. Of course, I tried everything but the only solution was to boot it from the install disk and run disk utility. Many times the computer froze as soon as I launched DU or it could not find my MacintoshHD. After three times of rebooting, it detected the MacintoshHD and said that it is corrupt (number of volumes incorrect xxxxxy instead of xxxxxx). I repaired it and it seemed fine after one more check. Then I rebooted the computer and ran DU again. It said that the files were corrupt (same problem), I turned off the computer, launched it from the disk again and repaired it. Once I turn it on from MacHD I run DU again and it says that files are corrupt again.
Anything had similar issues? What should I do besides taking it to the AppleStore?
    Thanks for reading this,

If it's under warranty, Apple will do it. If not, search the Apple Support site for the instructions for your model. Example:

  • My macbook pro keeps freezing and shutting off when I am browsing the web on Safari.  How can I figure out what is causing this issue?

For the past few weeks my computer will slow down when I have been on Safari for awhile, then freeze, and then just go black.  I have to press the power button and then it goes to a black screen with the apple logo and a loading bar underneath when it reboots.  I'm not sure what is causing the issue, but on my previous mac it would have an error message if something like this happened that I could submit.  Any suggestions of where to start to solve this issue?
    Thanks!

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

Firefox 3.6.23 is experiencing constant freezing and rebooting issues with Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin, not sure if it is a conflict issue or not.
Since the update there had been no reported issues till today when the blue screen came up on me, this issue prior to plug in 11 had occurred at least 6 times, this issue only happens on firefox.
I do not wish to update since recent firefox browsers seem to have a lot of ongoing issues.

    Anyone able to help please?

  • HT1338 After updating to Lion 10.7.5 I have had stability issues - Macbook continues to freeze and Spotlight is forever indexing. What's the fix?

I am having real stability issues after installing Lion OS X 10.7.5 - my Macbook keeps freezing and Spotlight is forever repeatedly indexing - does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem with a Mac Pro desktop and it started after I upgraded to 10.7.5 . Exact same issue , Crashes for no reason ( very little running - mail, browser) then reboots. Sometimes it does multiple reboots.
I hate to say it but it's tiumes like this that I envy the Microsoft's approach to updates, if it is bad (which is not unheard of) you can go into programs and remove the last update. It would be nice if Apple implemented this since their quality doesn't seem to be what it once was.

  • HT3798 Ipod classic, 120gb randomly freezes and/or reboots. Is this hardware or software issue?

My wife told me the other day that she was having an issue with her ipod which was happening at an increasing rate. While listening to an audio book or music it will randomly stop/freeze, and times the Ipod will reboot. Of course, when listening to a 6 hour audio book and losing your place when this happens can be frustrating. It's about 4 years old and I was thinking that maybe it was the drive inside, but not sure.
    Thanks in advance,

  • What kind of real time problems and issues arise in Data Modelling

    Hellooo experts,
I am not a BW expertise, so just want to gather some knowledge on Problems and issues related to DATA MODELLING, if any body have a document or a link can you please snd it to [email protected] or reply to this post. I promise to reward you for proper answers hope this is the way i say thanks for your help.
    kishore

    hi kishore,
The first and most important problem is to understand <b>Clients requirement</b>. Clients even some time not aware of how to utilize efficiency of BW, as they are very much use to with traditional SAP R/3 reporting. So most of time we have to suggest options to client.
If we come to technical aspect, than identifying <b>Key Figures and Characterstics</b> is the most important task. And how you map that to <b>available infoobjects</b>. Attributes also plays major roles, like which attributes is better to use as navigational one and which as exclusive attribute.
Their is long list for data modelling issues, its better you refer either <b>Mastering BIW</b> book by Mac'Donalds. And SAP Help Library is also having good material.
    regards,

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

  • Freezing and major issues on Lion

I use Quicktime for workout routines, and it has begun to freeze constantly. Especially annoying when it cuts out during a set. The sound will continue to play, but the video will freeze, and any attempts to fix will result in QT becoming unresponsive. Also, force closing while the window is on full screen jacks up the player next time it's opened.
    Some notes:
Running latest version of Lion and QT
    Videos are in .mpg format
Perian is installed and at the latest version.
    Playing thru HDMI on fullscreen
For now I'm using VLC player, with no issues.

Many thanks Cory for this. I actually live in the UK and based upon what you said, I ended up finding this site which was the only place which had the original battery available, not a clone or remanufactured.  They do international shipping as well:
    http://www.thebookyard.com
which turned out to be really good at providing all of the necessary tools as well.
I am posting back for everyone else to see because I am blown away that (a) it is so difficult to buy a battery for a less than 2 year old laptop ... (b) that a battery fails so quickly and (c) that Apple make it so difficult to change by fitting specialist screws within chassis that mean you need specific tools etc.
Nothing to do with "good design" .... just trying to extract as much money as possible.
