Freezing and major issues on Lion

I use Quicktime for workout routines, and it has begun to freeze constantly. Especially annoying when it cuts out during a set. The sound will continue to play, but the video will freeze, and any attempts to fix will result in QT becoming unresponsive. Also, force closing while the window is on full screen jacks up the player next time it's opened.
Some notes:
Running latest version of Lion and QT
Videos are in .mpg format
Perian is installed and at the latest version.
Playing thru HDMI on fullscreen
For now I'm using VLC player, with no issues.

I am posting back for everyone else to see because I am blown away that (a) it is so difficult to buy a battery for a less than 2 year old laptop ... (b) that a battery fails so quickly and (c) that Apple make it so difficult to change by fitting specialist screws within chassis that mean you need specific tools etc.
Nothing to do with "good design" .... just trying to extract as much money as possible.

Firefox 3.6.23 having freezing and rebooting issues with Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin

Firefox 3.6.23 is experiencing constant freezing and rebooting issues with Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin, not sure if it is a conflict issue or not.
Since the update there had been no reported issues till today when the blue screen came up on me, this issue prior to plug in 11 had occurred at least 6 times, this issue only happens on firefox.
I do not wish to update since recent firefox browsers seem to have a lot of ongoing issues.

Anyone able to help please?

Sorry if this has been asked before...but...
Is the freezing and rebooting issue caused by a fault in the Hardware or Software...?
Can someone from BT please explain just exactly what is going on.

To answer the original question. The occasional freezes and reboots are caused by the New Look software (possibly in conjunction with associated system changes on the BT servers). Many of us had years of trouble free viewing using the Classic software on the same black BT Vision+ boxes. It was only when we were upgraded to the New Look software that all the troubles began. If however, you are getting such problems many times per day, or even many times per hour that could indicate a hardware fault.

Freezing and Battery Issues

Every once in a while my screen will freeze and I have to hit the lock button and then unlock it and it works fine. Recently its been to the point where I have to remove my battery to get it to unfreeze and then I get the gray battery with error message over that, I don't know what to do or what's causing this...Any suggestion?

I understand it is very inconvenient to have your device constantly freeze, especially when you have to reboot to get it to un-freeze. Do you restart your device(s) regularly? (Like once a week.) Since Smartphones are like mini computers, it is important to restart them and clear the memory regularly. If you don't, they will start freezing, and even draining the battery life faster. To Restart the device, press the button at the upper right corner of your device for about 2-3 seconds, select Restart when prompted.

Privilege issues with iTunes and General issues with lion.

My compter frooze this eventually lead to my reinstalling lion from Time Machine. This has lead to several major problems firstly my iphoto library missing, also when I connect iPhone. I get an error telling met "This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on iphone ....... Would like to autorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Stores..." then it said would you like to authorise. I clicked yes. Then I get a error message. About directory not found or correct permission. I can not even deauthorise and other authorise. I think I have permission problem.
Further issues is that other user's data has been deleted. i had drag and drop itunes folder in order to get back their downloads. The music appears in itunes and historic purhases on itunes. But when you try and re dowmload the later the user has permission. I checked get info on finder but everything appears fine, i need help!!!

KT6 Delta - Random freezes and LAN Issues

Just built a new PC, installed Win XP, installed all the drivers etc.
I get random freezes - as in the machine will just stop responding totally. I could run for an hour before a freeze, other times its frozen before I've even logged in.
Also the LAN keeps dropping out too. The timing of this is also random, just to make things interesting. I could be downloading a 20MB file, get only 2MB into it, then it just sits there. The only way to get the LAN back up and running is to reboot. Once I've rebooted, its a case of just waiting for it to fail again
The specs are as follows:
KT6 Delta-FIS2R (Gigabit LAN etc.)
AMD 2800XP+
1GB Crucial (2 x 512)
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
80 Maxtor HD
400W PSU
I've got the FSB set to 166 and also set the memory up correctly (333 and 2.5 cl) but to no avail.
I was running with a Soundblaster Audigy card, but took that out and still got the same. I even tried taking out one of the memory modules.
I don't think its a temperature issue as the CPU is currently running at about 47 Degrees and I've got the side off-of the case.
Please - anyone got any ideas???

I have a KT6 Delta LSR and am having probs with the onboard Broadcom 4401 as well.
After Initial boot of machine I have 2-5 minutes to surf the net or whatever. At that time I lose connection. Also if I linger on one page long enough to read, I lose connection. Or shutdown a net connected program, it loses connection.
When I play Tribes - the connection stays till I leave the server - then I have to reboot.
This is driving me nuts. I have disabled the Lan in bios and installed a Netgear 10/100. XP recognizes it but cannot get rid of "Cable not plugged in" message. So I reinstalled the 4401.
I have RR and am behind a Phoebe 4 port router. None of the other computers have a problem with the router, and I have tried changing plug in ports around among the computers.
I have the same version of driver for it as the latest at MSI. Flashed the latest bios lately as well, in desperation.
Any ideas? I sure would appreciate it.

10.8.3 rendered my MBP to lag and freeze (and other issues)

Okay. I have a Macbook Pro 9,1 (non-retina, Mid-2012). After installing 10.8.3 through App Store, my computer begins to lag, and it would completely freeze in about 2 hours or so. It starts with one application 'not responding' and it would spread to other applications. When I try to Force Quit, that Force Quit window would freeze as well. None of my keyboard, track pad etc would work. I had to force shut down by holding the Power button.
I have done the following:
Restart
Restart with 'Reopen Windows when logging back in' off
SMC Reset
PRAM Reset
Hardware Test
Disk Permission Repair
Repair Disk
Reinstall OS
Reinstall using COMBO Update
fsck -fy in Single User Mode
I also checked the ~Library/Logs/Diagnostic Log and Uninstalled (with official uninstaller) EyeConnect (who crashed in the background for about 8 times during my 24hrs use of 10.8.3.)
While going through that list, I found issues in kernel_task taking up a lot of RAM (1+ GB in normal mode) (~400 GB in safe mode). The free RAM would also be miniscule just before the multiple freezes I had.
Booting through Safe mode, after about 2 minutes or so after boot, My RAM looks like this:
(No Free Space, Wired taking up 6GB...) The Animation would be very choppy and I would be using Nvidia Graphics Card (GT-650M) instead of Intel Graphics 4000, when nothing graphic intensive is up. Some Post floating in the Support Communities also mentioned how the VRAM for Intel Graphics 4000 shrunk from 512MB to 384MB. I think I have the same problem as well.
I've been to Apple Store/Genius Bar Twice: They basically said I should wipe the computer and hope for the best. They also checked my Hardware, and it seems alright.
I thought of rolling back to 10.8.2 through Time Machine, but for some reasons, my HDD (through Thunderbolt) would not mount when booted from the recovery partition. It's there in Disk Utility, just won't mount. When accessing the HDD through USB 3.0, my most recent back-ups are not present, with the most recent update from March 2nd. (March 3rd ~ March 18th Missing.)This shouldn't be the case, as I back up multiple times every day. I am also able to view the recent dates through Time Machine ('Enter Time Machine' from the menu bar).
I think the only thing left I could do would be Rolling back to March 2nd or Wiping my computer to factory settings. Both I'm quite reluctant to do so, for obvious reasons.
Hypothesis on the issue: I think it's the RAM management gone wrong, causing the computer to lag+freeze so much. I predict the wipe won't help much. But we won't know what will happen unless we do it, I guess...
Did I mention about the sleep problems I had before 10.8.3? I'll skip those since it's not fatal, but they're not resolved in 10.8.3 as well. I installed 10.8.3 hoping to solve those problems, only to get even more problems Help Please? Thanks!

Small "freeze" and sound issue when taking a full screenshot

This is a strange one, and I've not been using Macs properly for very long, so bear with me
It only happens when I use cmdshift3 to take a full screenshot, the other shortcuts for taking them are fine, I do get a similar issue when using Grab and it, too, only occurs on the full screen capture. What happens is, the sound clip of the camera noise will begin to play, stop, it goes a little distorted then the windows on screen will freeze up, the mouse will still move, and it stays like that for around 5 seconds until the file is saved to the desktop and all goes back to normal again. I'd like to reiterate that it only does this when i do a full screenshot, and the smaller one with the crosshairs and the individual windows is perfectly fine.
I tried searching on google, on the main support section and the forums and nothing has come up that's been helpful. I've had a look in the system logs, and at the time's I take the screenshot, the system log reports the following:

I know from that it's referring to my soundcard and there's a memory reference, but that's about as much as I can figure out.
It might not seem a big issue as the other methods are ok, but if it turns out to be something much deeper I'd like to try and fix it now before it becomes a problem.

Application freezing and StartUp issues

My PB Titanium, 15", 550 Mhz freezes randomly: when it happens I can only force the Shut Down; afterwards the computer won't startup: I can see the gray screen with the spinning gear and that's all.
I erased the disk and re installed the System (OS X 10.3.9), but now I have the same problems.
I run the apple hardware test and the HW seems to be ok.
Disk Utilities found that the disk is OK. Tech Tool Pro 4.0.4 e-drive found two bad blocks. Otherwise, mounting the volume as external Firewire disk, the bad blocks were not found by Tech Tool Pro.
I have already tried the PRAM and PMU reset.
I don't know what else I can do....

Given that your PB boots fine to these others disks, it's quite possible you have a software issue.
Have you run Background Maintenance?
Also, how much free space do you have available on your HD? If it's anything under 4GB, this may be causing your issues.
Have you repaired permissions while booted normally from your HD? (not from the install disk)
the Power Button zone become very very hot after a while, and the fan is often spinning.
That's where your power adapter plugs in. Later model TiBooks actually added another fan there to cool things down more, but prior to the 800MHz, none of the TiBooks have this second fan.
Do you think that this is the problem?
It's normal for this area to become warm while the power adapter is plugged in, especially when it's charging the batt. However, if it's suddenly getting much warmer than it ever did before, then something must have changed.
What is the condition of your battery/how long will your PB run from the batt?
How can I know if the cooling system is working correctly?
Your PB has one fan, for the CPU, centered at the rear. There is no test for it, but when you run CPU intensive applications, it should run after awhile. Try opening iTunes and running Visualizer (turn it on from the Visualizer menu) for 10 minutes or more. This makes my CPU fan kick in every time. If you can't hear the fan due to other background noise, hold a flimsy piece of paper by the vent in the rear of your PB and see if air is being pushed out by the fan.
One other thing you may want to try is to quit all apps and open Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) and see if any processes are using a significant amount of your CPU which is causing things to heat up.

T410 HDD Diag test is freezing and other issues.

I have a T410 that has multiple issues. At first, during the Windows splash screen I would get a blue screen. Also, the HDD diag test was freezing up. So, I had replaced the hdd. After doing so I when hooking up the laptop to our network to run a new image on it, I would get a message saying that the hdd is not installed or drivers are not loaded. None of the other laptops give this message when running an image to them. Next, the system board was replaced and that still didn't resolve the problem. I'm thinking my next step is to replaced the cpu and the memory.
Right now I have a new board and a new hard drive that has no OS loaded on it. Any ideas?

Which HDD diagnostics test did you use? The Lenovo one?
Is the BIOS option for SATA set to compatibility mode?

Major issues after Lion update - need help fast (please!)

Following instructions learned on this discussion board I attempted to do a clean install of FCP X & Lion on a wiped drive. I first cloned my main (Mac) drive onto another internal drive, then wiped the original Mac drive clean. Next, I installed Lion on that drive and then was stymied at the Migration Assistant as it only gave the option to transfer ALL apps, and not specify which of those I would like to transfer. I was under the impression that FCP 7 and FCP X should not reside on the same drive. Therefore I manually copied all but the "FCP Studio" folder back onto the main drive and then used the Migration assistant to transfer all the rest of the files. Trouble is that I now somehow have 2 user accounts, and they are both acting very differently:
- In the new user account FCP X opens with almost all files intact yet there is no audio and since Aperture doesn't appear on this account there are no stills in my project(s).
- In the old (orginal) user account FCP X opens with nothing more than my project names visible, yet Aperture (and all other apps) ARE visible on this account
My questions are as follows:
1. Is there a way to combine these accounts?
2. How do I recover audio files (these are primarily V/O tracks and Smart Sound music tracks)
3. Is there some other workaround or re-do that I should do?

You might want to post the user account issue in the Lion discussion group. Sounds like you created a user account when you installed Lion and then moved over a user account, which is why you have two accounts.
I believe you can work around this, but it would be best to get advice from a Lion OS X expert. Hence the other discussion group.

Exchange and mail issue on lion

I use a 27inch iMac with exchange for the company email. If I ever search for an email in mail I can usually find what I am looking for but after that Mail freezes. I then have to force quit to restart mail. It's not an issues on the iPhone. Help?
Any thoughts on what is happening or alternative solutions.

How many Casio Commando owners have had freezing and rebooting issues?

I've had nothing but issues,including the above mentioned rebooting and freezing problems. If you have Please leave some kind of remark,I'm tired of paying for a phone that always has issues even after getting it replaced only to find the same issues and it seems to get worse with time. I'm going to take this to a Verizon store so I can look the person in the eye and show them all the threads(including this one) on here with the same issue and have them tell me no other customers are having these problems. I've read at least 10 threads with the same problem.

I've had the Casio G'Zone Commando for a few months - a constant battle. At first we thought there was an issue with the battery as it would keep discharging. Got a new battery. Then it started freezing. Sometimes off/on would re-start, other times had to pull the battery. Then the microphone went bad - VZW convinced it was me so sold me LG Bluetooth. Then speakers went out. Finally, issued replacement G'Zone about 12 days ago.
So we take all the time to re-install apps (mostly travel apps like airlines, etc - nothing strange). Freezing again, but restarts with off/on or battery pull. Yesterday in VZW store to get another smart phone (add'l) and transfer the Casio to husband. IT FROZE! And no one in store could get it re-started. So yet another new Casio coming.
We're pretty done with this phone - the Android version is old. It is kinda slow. I wanted it for the ruggedness, but not if it is unreliable (since I travel a lot). I don't know why a) VZW won't ship new phones more quickly (without US paying the cost) and b) won't let us get a different smart phone. VZW is really our only choice for carrier, and we've been with them since the cell phone era started. It seems like we just don't get near the service we used to.

Freezing and display issue

I had this imac from 2010. Now it's creating some issues. Daily when i start this Imac, its freeze on gray screen and its also show scrambled display. But after 5 or 6 time immediate power down and on. I am able to use the operating system. It’s a very strange problem after getting heat or something it able for use. I also reset the smc and Pram reset. I don’t think its operating system problem. Kindly suggest solution which work

This sounds possibly graphics related and sounds as though you are experiencing kernel panics.
Please post a copy of your latest kernel panic in your reply. To find the log, open Console application and look under System Diagnostic Reports. The log will start with "kernel_" and end in ".panic". Post the whole panic report in your reply.

2009 MBP: freezing and wifi issues

My mid-2009 Macbook Pro (A1286) has been acting flaky. Sometimes the wifi gets turned off when I close it, and I can't turn it back on even in the Network control panel--only restarting it turns it back on. Also I've been getting frequent hard freezes, where everything locks up (no beach ball or anything) and I have to hold the power key down to restart.
I'm running 10.7.3 with 4GB ram. I've tried safe boot, starting from disc and running disk utilitites, running DiskWarrior, repairing permissions. For the wifi problem I've tried unchecking remember open windows, and I've tried moving the active wifi to the top in sys prefs.
Anyone have any ideas?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software – potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions – they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are several lines of text in monospaced type, which are UNIX shell commands. They’re harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of running these commands, search this site for other discussions in which they’ve been used without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time.
