Freezing and unresponsive

Sometimes when in any application the phone won't respond for several seconds including while I'm in notepad trying to edit a note, the keyboard doesn't show up.
The phone seems to be frozen and/or not responding to screenpresses.

I'm having the same problem as you only worse. I got my GS on the day it was released. I have had a consistent problem with it freezing while I'm using it. This most often happens while I'm typing an e-mail or a text message, especially when I'm doing it in landscape mode, but it happens in other circumstances as well. Sometimes it happens as little as a couple of times a day. Other times it happens every few minutes. I have not been able to find a common reason that applies to these freezes. I have tried the following:
(1) restoring the device
(2) downloading a new version of 3.0
(3) removing all of the apps and reinstalling them
(4) soft and hard resets of the device (turning it off completely and restarting it, and turning it off while pressing the home button)
(5) using the device in different modes (airplane, wi-fi, 3G)
The only thing I haven't done is reinstall the apps one by one. This is an unacceptable solution because I have close to 100 apps and there are a number of various combinations under which the problem might still occur by reinstalling each app individually.
Still the problem persists. The temporary fix is to turn the device off and back on. Sometimes shaking the device helps. But in both of these circumstances the device usually proceeds to freeze up again. I have noticed that the freezing has been less frequent for the past couple of days. Not sure why this is, since I can't correlate it to anything I did to the phone, other than the usual recharge. I have an appointment with a Genius Bar specialist on Monday night. Will post an update when I get more information. In the meantime, if anyone else can figure out a way around it, let me know. Since I paid $500 for the new phone, this freezing (even with a temporary fix) is not acceptable. I would record the freezing, but I don't have a video camera, so I'll have to hope that the freezing happens in the Apple store when I take it in.

  • Lagging, freezing and unresponsive

i have a 16gb 3gs we just bought in june. i have had nothing but issues with it, while my husband who bought one the same day hasnt had a minute of trouble with his, until a moment ago when he upgraded to 4.0.2 version that completely reset his phone.
my phone lags when doing any task, freezes up and just touch doesnt respond to anything. im starting to wonder if i got a lemon. the lady at the store said to turn it off every day. but i cant every day so i turn it off at night every other day. my husband has never turned it off once.
any suggestions? i am still running 4.0.1.

I've been experiencing the same ever since upgrading to IOS 4. Before that, the 3GS had always been very responsive.
Yesterday I was listening to music, then started the Google app to search for something. Text entry was very slow and unresponsive, and the music began stuttering. Clicking on the search result never turned up the web page, and the stuttering became worse. So I wanted to call up the task manager and just kill everything except for Google and the built-in apps (that has helped in the past). The task manager (you know, I mean the strip at the bottom) never showed up. So I wanted to turn of the phone. I pressed the power button for more than 10 seconds, but the slider never showed up. I literally had to wait for minutes until the iPhone decided to let me control the device again.
This has happened several times already, although never as bad as yesterday. For me, IOS4 is really a mess. No problems ever before the update. I don't know if completely restoring would help or if it's really a problem with the OS, so I'm waiting for any reports to help me decide.

  • Systems Preferences freezes and unresponsive in Lion.

After updating to new Lion OS my System Preferences freezes up, and unresponsive. Have to do a false quit to exit. I accidently requested a picture file that no longer exists to get picture for destop and sreen saver when app froze up and cannot do anything, that requires changing preferences.

If anyone is still having this issue, try this fix:
    1. open Terminal and type
chflags nohidden ~/Library (this will unhide your library folder in Lion)
    2. open Finder and navigate to Mac HD/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.desktop.plist
    3. in Terminal type
chflags hidden ~/Library (to hide your library folder)

  • Phone freezing and unresponsive

My xperia z3 which was bought a week ago suddenly shows grains on the screen like when a tv shows when there is nothing played on screen. That time the phone is unresponsive. It turns back to normal after 5 minutes or so. What could be the problem.? Pls help.

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Mavericks 10.9.1. Freezes or trackpad becomes slow and unresponsive when viewing downloaded PDF files in Preview.Help!

The earlier post was my first attempt at posting and had some typos. Repeated with typos corrected.
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013 with preinstalled Mavericks.I now have the 10.9.1 update. Almost from the time of purchase in Nov '13, I have been experiencing freezes and slow & unresponsive trackpad. I have more or less narrowed this symptom as happening when viewing downloaded PDF files. The only option is to force eject, if available or shut down. I spoke to Support as I thought it was a RAM issue and they told me that in Mavericks RAM showing almost full was normal as it uses RAM differently. They took me through some resets and cleaning up which has helped a little but freezing stll happens. This never happened with my Macbook AIr running Lion. Any suggestions?

So a PDF file that you can view in Preview on your MBA causes your new MBP to lock up and/or slow down. Is this right? Also you say more or less narrowed down to PDFs with Preview but does the computer exhibit this behavior with other programs and if so under what conditions? And how much free hard drive space do you have?
Viewing memory use in Mavericks is different than with previous versions of the OS. Today it looks like we need to pay attention to what Apple calls Memory Pressure which is gauged by the bar graph in Activity Monitor and to the Virtual Memory being used. When the memory pressure graph bar gets too high it turns red and that's bad news. Looking at how much memory is being used doesn't help - I have a 16GB computer and with almost nothing running it still shows something like 15.79GB used but the memory pressure graph is just a think green line. So unless you see the memory pressure bar turning red lets not worry about memory usage at the moment.
If among the things AppleCare had you do was reinstall Mavericks then I recommend a trip to the Apple store - and take a problem PDF file with you to demonstrate.

Error message: "Warning: unresponsive script". Afterward, the system freezes and will then crash. Crash reports have been submitted many, many times without response. I have tried the fore-mentioned solutions with either no results or very bad results which I filed a report but did not receive an answer. The application to block scripts actually worsened the problem and I could not correct the situation for a while (no response from Firefox, at all). I have also been through this procedure without any one contacting me, AT ALL.

There does appear to be any support whatsoever from mighty "non caring" FIREFOX & people are getting fed up. We may as well try another system, if they can't be bothered to provide any support for their system, we can't be bothered to use their system.

  • My iPod Touch 3rd Gen is having problems with the touch screen being unresponsive, too responsive, freezing and constantly resizing. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix?

My iPod Touch (3rd Gen) is having problems with the touch screen being unresponsive, too responsive, freezing and constantly resizing. It varies between not responding when I tap the screen and acting as if I double-tap or tap and hold when I tap. Every so often it freezes for a minute or so and then comes back. The scren is constantly changing sizes too such that I often can't see most of the top status bar or other edges. This makes typing almost impossible, ruins most games and generally makes everything difficult, but otherwise the iPod is working correctly. Powering off, shutting down apps, letting it sit have not worked. This has happened once before months ago, but the issue resolved itself somehow. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix?

    Try this for the freezing

Or if they don't work put it into recovery mode

  • ITunes freezes and becomes unresponsive when I plug in my iPad.

I have Windows 7, and iTunes works perfectly fine, until I plug in my iPad or any device (I have a iPod touch 4 generation and iPhone 4s). The second I plug in my iPad, iTunes completely freezes and becomes unresponsive. It also becomes unresponsive when I try to go to Preferences. I have to go to task manager to force iTunes to close, but if I unplugged my iPad, iTunes becomes responsive after a couple minutes.
I have researched this problem multiple times, and it seems several others are experiencing the same problem. I have tried their suggested advice, and it did not work for me. I have tried many methods to solving the solution, but it freezes up so quickly I can't even access my iPad on iTunes to ensure that it won't sync automatically. I have also tried holding Ctrl+Shift when plugging it in because iTunes said that way it won't sync automatically. This, however, does not work. iTunes is beginning to become very frustrating. I just really need any advice that will allow me to sync my device ASAP.
I understand there must be some sort of bug in the latest version of iTunes (I also have the latest version of iOS on my iPad and iPhone), but if anyone has any advice as to how to get around this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • System completely freezes and becomes unresponsive

    Hi,
We have a single processor, 1 GB RAM Redhat system (desktop). Normally with the database(oracle 10.1g) and client connections running, the memory utilization of this server is around 90-99% . However every few days the box completely freezes and becomes unresponsive (users cannot login, client connections fail). We have to hardboot the box and restart the database. When in stuck state, the log files are not updated, except that sendmail logs heavy load average. ( Messages like "Load Avg 12: 1 Times(s) Load Avg 13: 1 Times(s) Load Avg 14: 1 Times" and so on) and the free memory falls to 8 mb or less but with above 2 gb swap space available.
My question is if there is no free memory, system should thrash (excessive swapping) and become slow, but instead our box completely freezes, though the interactive response ( for any connection which is still active) and ping response is ok, they aren't slow.
Is there any kernel level parameter that can be tuned so the server won't freeze, (tries to move the memory pages to swap space or any other way). When the server is stuck (freezes ) any ssh connections still active will stay on, but new connections fail. One time, using that session, I tried to free up memory by killing processes like X Server etc, but still the server didn't unfreeze.
    Server info:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon Update 4)
    Kernel (uname -r) 2.4.21-27.EL
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz (Single processor)
    1 GB RAM
    Oracle db version - 10.1.0.3.0
Lastly, I don't think this is any hw problem, because we see similiar problem on multiple system with similiar configs.
Please guide how to resolve the problem. Thanks.

  • Viewmail for outlook, on office 2010 Freezes and becomes unresponsive

I have a user that is running outlook 2010 on a 64bit windows 7 machine. We have the Japanese language pack installed for him to use. When the Viewmail add-in is enabled on his machine, Outlook freezes and becomes mostly unresponsive. as an example, if one were to click on a drop down menu, it would take 20 to 30 seconds to open up. Then the menu would be available, but to select a command, it would take several seconds to click on a choice, then several for the command to actually execute.
When the add-in is disabled, everything works as expected.
This is a new windows machine for him as we are rolling out 7 now to our users and he has had this problem almost from the beginning. We had 8.6.4.7 installed in the 7 image, and once I was able to determine this was the actual cause of Outlooks really poor performance(did this by opening outlook in safe mode, disabling all of the add ins, then enable them one at a time until I saw it freeze when Viewmail was enabled, be it by itself or with any combination of other add-ins), I uninstalled it, reinstalled it. Repaired it. Repaired the Office installation all ended with no change.
Then I upgraded him this morning to 9.0.2.1 because some of the information I found on similar issues reported that it corrected this problem, but alas, no luck. Outlook still freezes and is pretty much useless for him if the Viewmail add-in is enabled.
The only difference I have found is that we have him set up with the Japanese language pack so he can work in his native language. At this time we also have 2 other users that have similar setups and so far they have reported no problems.
His previous XP machine, was a 32 bit, office 2003 setup, with the Japanese language pack also installed and everything played well together then.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    thanks

My brother-in-law is having the exact same issue. Here are 2 links that might help that I just found. I haven't suggested that he do these yet as it's only happened once, but if it continues, we will try it.

Whenever I use google, which is often since it is my homepage, unless the thing I want to search for is within the first couple of auto-searches that pop up when I'm typing, the auto search will stop and if I press enter or click the search icon Firefox will freeze and I have to shut it down and try again. However, I have no problems when I try it with Firefox in Private browsing.

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB  RAM installed.  The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.
