Freezing/Deleted Settings problem SOLVED!
I bought my 160 GB Classic the week it came out last year. During the months and months I've used it, I've only ever had ONE problem:
If a calendar alarm popped up while I was listening to the iPod, that would almost guarantee that the iPod would freeze, requiring a reboot, and said reboot would lose all my settings. The freeze would happen whether I tried to dismiss the alarm or if I first removed the headphones and then tried to dismiss the alarm. And no iPod controls would function at all, whichever scenario.
So I finally got the bright idea of taking my calendars OFF the iPod.
I've had no freezes since!
If I do get another freeze, I'll report back here.

Photoshop cc freezing the computer (problem solved)
Hi fellows,
My photoshop CC was freezing my computer, especially if I was using another program. In addition, when I started to paint the brush lagged a lot. The whole problem was the scratch disk, at the beginning I tried to increase memory usage, but it did not work.
So, I realized that in the scratch disk option (Edit>preference>scratch disks) the first option was the drive C (I have two HDs), what I did was, using the arrows on the right hand side, move the second disk to the first option, since it contain more space, it seems photoshop use it first than it moves to the second disk, if necessary. Thing is, it worked, now everything works properly. If you have only one HD, try to get rid of some unnecessary stuffs to get more space.
Please let me know if this worked for you
Bestturns out its a corrupt font thats been doing this:

[Solved]Gnome settings problem
Hi all.
I have some strange problems with Gnome 3.2, it is hard to explain but these screenshots should:
http://bildr.no/image/1012613.jpeg
http://bildr.no/image/1012614.jpeg
In the first picture you can see that something that is selected by default is pink, this happens all over Gnome. In the second one you can see that in nautilus when I want to select with the mouse it creates a white block so you can't see behind. I know it is a settings problem because the same doesn't happen on a new account, but the problem is that I have tried to delete .gnome2/ .gconf and .config but once I start to customize again the problem reappers. So I was wondering if there is anything else that I can try to delete without deleting the whole account or if there is some settings that I could to to remove this problem.
Thanks in advanced

Mail contacts calendars option freezes in settings list
For no reason whatsoever, my Exchange Server mail stopped syncing with my iPad2 yesterday. When I go to Settings, "Mail Contacts Calendars", the line highlights but then just freezes right there and I can never get into those settings (eventually the iPad just takes me back the home screen). I did a soft reset, then a hard reset with restore (same problem), and now I am doing a hard reset with no restore (basically wiping the unit clean, which is such a pain in the a$$ to get all of my apps back into the appropriate folders that I've created). Any reason why this happened? Any way to fix it in the future? I have an iPhone 3GS and the mail was still working fine with it. No changes were made on the server or on the iPad2 (I own the company and know that no one did any changes yesterday). It happened just out of the blue. Thoughts? Thanks.
I have been experiencing some major sync/push problems with mail, contacts and calendar between my Mac, iphone and ipad for over a month now. The problems are still being investigated by Apples technicians.
However, a couple of days ago I set up a new iCloud account, whilst my original one is currently being investigated and is practically useless.
The new iCloud account works fine. All devices sync properly and I can create, edit and delete entries from all devices.
This is clearly an iCloud issue. I was initially suspected of causing the problem. I am now in the clear. If your email is of no consequence I suggest setting up a new iCloud account. Mine is important so I am waiting for Apple to reset my original iCloud account so that I can use it again.
Since setting up the new account my ipad works fine and no longer freezes in settings.
Result. Hope it works for you. -
PROBLEM SOLVED--CS5 WIN7 X64 INSTALL ERROR DEPENDENCY FAILURE
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just spent 9 hours straight on this, but will was stronger than "its". Now I have both cs4 and cs5, but hopefully it will work if you just have cs5 as well. I also did not try runnning cs5 installer first after implementing the fix, maybe that will work too..And when getting the cs5 error, I went to re-install cs4 but got an error as well so that is why I took the steps I did. On 7x64 do the followin
First run the cs5 cleanup tool and reboot.
Second, go into c:\program file(x86)\common files\adobe\installers . Delete everything in it
Then go into you registry (start, run, then type regedit) and expand to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\ Components ...(if this isnt there, try an install again, then go to the folder that you deleted the files from a moment ago and extract the log from the zip file and open it and go to the end. where it says error 1402 will be followed by a unknown\components\(a bunch of numebers right here)\(more numbers) ...
Copy the numbers directly after the components\ and go back into registry and click edit then "find" paste those numbers into the box and hit find..when you get to the key, scroll ALL the way back up to components again. Right click components and hit permissions.. Go to advanced and then the ownership tab up top.. click edit, hightlight administrator(s), check the box to "replace subcontainers" and click apply. respond yes to everything and close that and hit apply again if asked. then click the add button above the advanced button you just clicked. when the new box appears, click advanced and then click find now. Highlight Administrators and SYSTEM and hit OK. Then give both of them full rights and hit apply. Then click advanced again and in the first window check the box that says "replace all child objects...." and hit apply. accept the prompts and hit okay.
Now go into c:\windows and on the system32 folder, right click and go to properties. Go to the security tab. Click advanced and then "owner" and click edit. highlght administrators and check the box "replace all child object....." again and hit apply....
Now give Administrators, SYSTEM, AND TrustedInstaller full rights by clicking edit above the advanced tab in the first properties box.. Then click advanced again and in the first window click replace all child object....." again and hit apply....
Now do the same for the winsxs folder and (for good measure i did syswow64 but not sure if its necessary)...
Now you should be able to install both versions..(as i said, I installed cs4 first, maybe it was not necessary)...
If you dont like the idea of just blindly giving administrators full rights to all system folders, you can spend MANY MANY hours running the installs over and over and getting the faulty registry value that caused it to fail and create specific permissions for that and then go on to the next value that fails......what a pain

I have been trying to install CS5 MC now for weeks. I first got it to install everything except After Effects and Premiere Pro. Then trying to follow all the suggestions on this forum I wound up not being able to install any part of it at all. Now..
Well...following your kind suggestions as much to the letter as I could I have now been able to install everything...except Affter Effects and Premiere Pro. Sigh.
At least I can get back to work on everything that doesn't require AE and PPro. I still need to get them installed and working. -
Email auto deletion settings.
I have had my email auto delete settings set the same for years. I have spam folder set to delete in 1 day and my sent email and trash folder to auto delete in 30 days. None of that is working anymore. I have to physically delete these folder items myself. It's not a big problem, just wondering why nothing is working like it use to.
Do you have the account enabled on another device like a smartphone or tablet? Are you now using an email client on your computer like Outlook, Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail? Because if you are, the settings on those other devices will override the ones you have set in the Comcast Preferences for the webmail.

I was prompted to downloaded a security update & so I did. when i tried to open firefox afterwards ,I couldn’t open it. My computer told me I had a DEP settings problem.I tried to change my computer's DEP settings but was notified i couldn't for firefox. I tried the uninstall & then install Firefox again route (could not even do it in safe mode since i can't even open firefox)but still had the same problem afterwards. What should I do?
Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I was happily printing valentines for my grandchildren when all of a sudden my Epson Stylus N11 would not go. The printer icon in the dock bobbled and the message said the printer did not recognize the ink cartridges! Very weird. So I turned the printer off and on and then when I tried to print the message said the computer was unable to communicate with the printer. Restarting my iMac did nothing.
That was very alarming. Did this mean the printer was malfunctioning? Would I need to go out and buy a new one?
Then I went to my preferences in my home folder and deleted everything that said printer or Epson. Restarted the computer. Problem solved! The symptoms seemed to indicate a problem with the printer itself, fortunately it was not. I thought this might be useful to share.Hello Lars,
i agree with you that the v2.00 of the UFR2 driver works. I have been recommending it for a while now in this forum.
However, during my testing I found that it did not always work perfectly on 10.6 and it did not support all the models of Canon iR. So while it is currently working to your iRC4580, it may not be your final solution because it was not designed to work with 10.6 and I just wanted to make others who read your post aware of this.
Also, because the driver does not officially support 10.6, I was suggesting this as an explanation why Canon
Europe had not posted the same.
One final note. For the sake of other readers If the iRC4580 had an imagePASS-H1 print controller attached, rather than using the internal Canon board, then the UFR2 driver cannot be used.
Hope this clears things up. Like I said, I wasn't disagreeing with you. i was just trying to answer some of the items you raised.

My Safari Keychain Problem Solved
I've been reading lots of posts about problems with the use of keychains from within Safari. I found a solution to my problem that, if it's been reported somewhere else, I have seen it.
I did two things:
1.) I reset my password in my Safari Forms Autofill key (if that's the right term). There was a seires of unrecognizable characters where the password should be (corruption you thinK?) I moved that key into the default keychain, my username. It was previously in login.
2.) I found lots of duplicate keys between the login keychain and the username keychain. Why keychain repair didn't repair this, I have no idea. It should. I deleted all the duplicate webform passwords. Repaired keychain and disk permissions, just for the heck of it.
Logged out, logged back in. Problem solved.
Hope that helps.

Podcast Smart Playlist Problems (Disregard - Problem solved)
Problems solved. Is it possible to delete the post?
Message was edited by: ogmanReagrding tracks being copied over again, I've seen another post in iPod Lounge where that person indicated the same thing. He stated that the play count was not being updated between the iPod and iTunes, but that the tracks were being copied over again. This sounds like a good explanation of this problem.
I have now noticed many of the tracks which I know I have played in the past show a "0" play count. Are the play counts kept in the iTunes library files (iTunes.xml and iTunes.itl)?
I always save the library files, so that when I reinstall iTunes I can just copy these 2 files back to their proper locations and I have my entire library intact - playlists and all. My music library is on a different drive.
Anyway, I KNOW I have played these tracks on the iPod, and yet they show unplayed on iTunes. This is probably another symptom of the re-copying tracks problem. -
When Firefox opened, and the system ply a sound, the com will hang awhile, but after I close Firefox, the problem solved itself, if I disable all plugins, the problem solved, can help check which plugins will cause this problem or this is Firefox problem???
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== ply a soundI changed the setting, but unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem. This situation does seem to occur more, when I load or reload my eBay home page. I noticed that all data and information would go ahead and load, but the random ads bar would not immediately load and when I would left click anywhere on the page, Firefox would temporarily freeze, the page turns white, Firefox not responding will display, and then the banner would load and everything is fine. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my Flash Player. Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Reggie

Starting on April 14, 2011, I tried installing Firefox 4.0, which I downloaded from the Mozilla site. The first couple of times I tried to install it, it corrupted Firefox file places.sqlite. I know this because the install renamed the file to places.sqlite.corrupt. Luckily, I had recent backups. My previous installed versions were 3.5.18, which I had been using up to this time, and 3.6.16. I tried installing 4.0 with 3.6.16 installed, which I installed only for the sake of installing 4.0, and with no previous version installed and got the same bad results. I finally got a "successful" install on April 16, 2011, with no previous version installed.
Early on I discovered that Firefox 4.0 hangs (Firefox not responding) when left to idle for exactly 5 minutes (I timed it several times after immediately starting Firefox), pegging a constant 50% of the CPU when it hangs. I left it in a hanging state for up to half an hour, but nothing changed. This problem existed for all versions of Firefox 3.6, which is why I didn't install version 3.6.16 until I was ready to install version 4.0. I never kept any version of Firefox 3.6 installed for more than a couple of hours because of this problem. I need to be able to let Firefox stay idle for long periods of time -- certainly for more than 4 minutes and 59 seconds -- without having it hang, and I was able to do that with all versions of Firefox prior to version 3.6. It's incomprehensible that Firefox 4.0 has to always hang if it's inactive for more than 4 minutes and 59 seconds, and it's incomprehensible that this problem has been present and persistent since version 3.6 was introduced. To believe that 4 minutes and 59 seconds is sufficient idle time for a browser is absurd. This was never an issue with any version of Firefox prior to version 3.6, this was never an issue with Netscape, and it's not an issue with IE 8.
There are 2 other problems related to the hanging problem. If the browser and the bookmarks library are both open and the browser is closed normally, the bookmarks library remains open. After being left idle for exactly 5 minutes, the bookmarks library hangs, pegging a constant 50% of the CPU. If Firefox 4.0 is restarted before the 5 minute idle limit, it starts successfully. If an attempt is made to restart it after the 5 minute idle limit, it won't start. If the bookmarks library is left open for less than 5 minutes after the browser is closed, it can be closed successfully. In all versions of Firefox prior to version 3.6, the bookmarks library automatically closed when the browser was closed. The other related problem is that Firefox 4.0 occasionally pegs a constant 50% of the CPU without hanging even while it is being used and even if the only thing open is the home page, which in my case is google.com. Firefox can be used while this is happening, but it is worrisome and shouldn't be happening. Normally, Firefox 4.0 uses no CPU when it is left to idle within the 5 minute idle limit.
Firefox 4.0 has not crashed on its own yet, so I've had no crash reports to send to Mozilla, but because I've had to use the "End Now" button on the Microsoft unresponsive program window numerous times to terminate it when it hangs, numerous Microsoft Windows dump reports have been generated, all of which I've sent to Microsoft.
The last fully working version of Firefox I had was 3.5.18. Unfortunately, I don't have the installer for that version and Mozilla doesn't make it available anymore. Also, it looks like version 4.0 altered the places.sqlite file such that I might not be able to go back to version 3.5.18 even if I could. If I could reinstall version 3.5.18 and get it to work with the altered places.sqlite file, I would, but it is outdated and no longer supported by Mozilla, and I only want to use up-to-date and supported software.
The hanging problem is totally intolerable and unacceptable. If I can't get a version of Firefox 4.0 anytime soon that doesn't hang after being idle for just 5 minutes (why 5 minutes???) or for any limited amount of time, I'll have to install and use Google Chrome as a permanent replacement for Firefox. (If I do have to replace Firefox with Google Chrome, how can I get my Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail links to open in Google Chrome when I click on them?) Based on other user feedback regarding this problem dating back to the very first Firefox 3.6 version, Mozilla has had ample time to resolve it. I have found other problems with Firefox 4.0, but I'm not going to bother telling Mozilla about them because if the hanging problem isn't resolved soon, I'll have to stop using Firefox permanently. I can't and won't tolerate the hanging problem. I have been using Firefox exclusively for many years, but my disappointment with it has been growing since version 3.6 was introduced and my patience has run out.
I would appreciate Mozilla letting me know within a week of this posting if they can't or won't fix the Firefox 4.0 hanging problem. If I don't receive a substantive response to this problem within a week, I'm going to have to abandon Firefox permanently and switch to Google Chrome. I'm also going to leave a negative review of Firefox 4.0 on CNET to warn other potential users of the hanging problem.
I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition 32-bit SP3 on a Dell XPS 400 desktop computer. I have an Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz, 3.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2 RAM @ 265MHz, RADEON X300 SE 128MB HyperMemory, and 190GB of free space on my hard drive. I am using COMODO as my firewall and Avira AntiVir as my anti-virus software. I am also using WinPatrol and Secunia PSI. My ISP is AT&T. My download speed averages 2.5 Mbps, and my upload speed averages 0.65 Mbps. All of my software is up to date, thanks to Secunia PSI and CNET TechTracker, and my computer is free from infection.Another aspect of the Firefox 4.0 "hanging/freezing/not responding" problem has emerged. I have found that on the common occurrence when Firefox 4.0 occasionally pegs a constant 50% of the CPU while idling within the 5 minute idle limit and I close it normally, it disappears from the Task Bar but continues to run and continues to peg a constant 50% of the CPU. I tried restarting Firefox 4.0 and got the following message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." Before Firefox can be restarted, the existing Firefox process must be killed via the Task Manager or Process Explorer (I use the latter), after which a Microsoft Windows dump report is immediately generated. I always allow the dump to be sent to Microsoft.
The three big questions that have gone unanswered by Mozilla are 1) why did the hanging problem start with the very first release of Firefox 3.6, 2) why was the problem allowed to continue on up to and through Firefox 4.0, and 3) why hasn't Mozilla fixed the problem yet? And what is the significance of the 5 minute idle limit? Do Firefox 3.6 through 4.0 try to launch something when the browser and/or the bookmarks library have been idle for exactly 5 minutes? Maybe it's a problem with the number and/or type of plugins and extensions and/or the number of bookmarks. Maybe Firefox 3.6 through 4.0 work just fine if there are few to no plugins, extensions, and bookmarks, but that doesn't realistically accommodate users. Whatever the cause of the problem, Mozilla should have had a handle on it by now.
If anyone from Mozilla Support is reading this post, please let me know if it is possible to roll back Firefox 4.0 to Firefox 3.5.18. If it is possible, how do I do it, and where can I get the installer for Firefox 3.5.18? If I can reinstall it, I'll use it until Secunia Software Inspector informs me that it is insecure and no longer safe to use. At that point (maybe much sooner), I'll switch to Google Chrome exclusively because I don't want to use outdated software that is insecure and because I don't believe that Mozilla intends to fix the hanging problem and is willing to lose users over it. I certainly don't want to use software like Firefox 4.0 that has such an impactful problem. If I do have to abandon Firefox, how can I click on Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail links and get them to open in Google Chrome? -
