Freezing , freeze after start-up
I have just had a new logic board fitted, the machine is now chimeing and starting up on every power-up but the OS has error's and the computer freezes after reaching as far as displaying desktop items or sometimes before.
I have tried:-
Booting from disks, computer freezes before it starts to install data or does not display my partioned hard drive in the destination window.
Target mode and re-installing 10.4 in archive and install mode.
could this be a faulty hard drive ? it has had approx 7000 hours use.
would it be a hard drive issue if it is still accessable from Target mode ?

I took it to the repair centre today and it booted up first time and did again. So I brought it home and first start a freeze. After 4 or so freezes I tried another instalation of 10.3.9 disks, (the orginal boot up discs the machine came with) that worked fine and did so through software update untill i installed 10.4 from dvd and then ran software update , de-selected the 10.4.9 and installed just the Java 1.3 and 1.4 updates - for better functionality within 10.4 - restarted from software update and the machine has frozen everytime.
It's time to take it back again tomorrow morning I am so peeved with the machine.

G4 running OS 10.5.4 freezes after start-up
My G4 is running Mac OS 10.5.4. It started frequently freezing after restart many months ago. I have to hard restart a few times and then it will eventually work, or, I can start-up in safe mode and then restart and it will work just fine. Once we are up and running there are no problems. I cannot link this problem to any new downloads or programs. I thought it might be hard drive failure and replaced the hard drive on the machine, but I still have a problem.
Any ideas on how to fix this?Welcome!
Can you be more specific about which G4 you have? There are a number of variants that can have different hardware issues. These two Apple tech documents are helpful in determining the exact model:

As you are running Leopard, I assume that your processor is at least 867mHz.
Was the computer stable prior to installing Leopard?
Did you use Leopard retail install disks?
Do you have enough RAM? How about free space on the hard drive? Free space should be at least 15 percent, more if you have limited RAM. %12MB RAM is about the minimum I'd try for runnign Lepoard.
When it freezes, do you get a bunch of cryptic writing on the screen or does it lock up with no information showing on-screen?
If the problems showed up after an incremental update (example: applying the 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 update), sometimes repairing permission on your boot volume can help.
Do you have any third-party PCI cards installed? What video card do you have?
I know this is a lot to digest, but is a start on the troubleshooting process.

After Installing ox lion, mac pro freezes after start up
so... just like the title says. after installing ox lion on my macbook pro ( i have snow leopard before. 4g memory), sometimes it freezes right after start up, and I could not click on anything, and i had to force it to shut down by holding the power button.
I don't know if anybody else have the same problem or not? is it a bug or something? hope it can be solved soon.....

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) -

If your Mac boots to the Desktop without freezing, nothing to worry about. The screen color may vary somewhat betweeen one Mac OS X to another.
This can help startup issues also.
Disable the Lion "resume" feature ...

Satellite 1400-104 freezes after starting main softwarepackage
Hi,
It concerns a Toshiba Satellite 1400-103 (512 MB memory). On booting the Satellite works fine, no problems with surfin or mailing, but when I start a main softwarepackage (like MS Word of Excel, or Macromedia Dreamweaver), the PC freezes after one or two minutes.
I have the impression that the fan suddenly starts turning and the computer freezes. The only thing I can do is shut down by holding the startbutton about 10 seconds, and restart.
I already reinstalled Windows XP, but after two weeks the same problem occurs. My Antivirusprogramm works fine and I check every week on spyware and malware.
Does someone have a clue about this problem?

Like you can see it happens just if the some complex applications started and in the moment where the processor must run with very high speed. In this moment the processor produce a lot of warmness and it must be cooled properly. If the processor temperature is too high the unit will be shut down or freezes because of protecting the processor.
In my opinion the unit should be cleaned from dust and after that the processor can be cooled properly. -

There are several things which may contribute to
this symptom; corruption on the startup drive's
sectors which have that data on them necessary
for the computer to boot, is one of them.
Some ideas and links to support documents may

Too full a hard disk drive, can cause problems;
in that the system can become overwritten or
corrupted by too many files and not enough free
space on the hard disk drive for the OS to work.
Have you tried starting the computer from the OS
installer disc to see if you can boot it at all? This
should be accomplished by inserting the 9.x OS
bootable installer CD into the optical drive tray,
and attempting to restart or start. There is a
utility on the installer disc which may help fix
the hard disk drive. Or if you have a bootable
third-party disk utility for OS 9.2.2 or earlier,
that may be an option instead of the system disc.
This may not be an easy task; the disc may
not wish to be inserted into the computer.
You may also try various keyboard commands
to try and make the computer start up; and if
there is no damage to the hard disk drive, or
the startup volume, it may work. Some are in
the following links; and of those, a few are for
Mac OS 9.x and earlier. Others are for OS X.

Things such as resetting the PRAM or NVRAM
could be of usefulness; depending on the cause
of the issues your computer has going on inside.
You can try to start with extensions disabled
in OS 9.2.2 & earlier (to a point) by holding the
Shift key down on startup. If that works, then
you know there is a problem with those files
known as extensions. An extension manager
is a helpful thing in a pure OS 9.2 system. I
used many utilities and tools in my pre-X days.

NEWBIE: Help needed - Eclipse freeze after starting WLS 9.2
Hi All,
I'm very new in development with wls 9.2 and eclipse.
I'm trying to create a simple application (an EAR with a Session Bean).
When I start the WLS inside Eclipse (debug or run mode), this one, after a few seconds or clicks, freeze with 99%CPU usage.

This may not be actually related to starting WLS. It sounds a bit like
you might be having a memory problem. Could you specify your operating
system, the amount of physical memory and the contents of your
eclipse.ini file?

Photoshop freezes after starting with white window
when I start Photoshop I see this after a few seconds. PS is then not responding and I have to force quit it.
One time I could see the window as "Participate to improve" but I couldn't click in it as PS freezes again.
Mac OSX Mountain Lion with all updates, freshly installed 2 days ago. Photoshop was installed two times by now. I already deleted the preferences to check if that helps, but same happen again. To be sure that it is not one of the custom brushes I re installed PS.
How can I get rid of the window or how can I solve this problem?

(Possible) bug: iPod freezes after starting an audiobook
When I start an audiobook on my iPod, it freezes for +/- 33 seconds. This means that the screen is stuck and the buttons don't work. Is it me or is this a bug?
I've tested this with an .m4a file that I renamed to .m4b to be able to access it as an audiobook.That's not really the problem. The thing is: I can use my iPod as I would use it normally, but when I open an audiobook, my iPod freezes temporarily (for +/- 33 seconds).
Interesting: when I connect my iPod with my computer during the time that my iPod is frozen, my computer doesn't respond until after the 33-second delay. -
InDesign and Illustrator CC freeze after start up. The rest of the apps work fine.
After installing CC on my Mac Book Pro, InDesign and Illustrator CC make freeze.
I need to restart with the start-up button.

When I turn on my G4 can and start opening apps and then shortly after that weird colors show up and dots. Then eventually it freezes. Every once in awhile a black screen will come down and tell me to restart. What can I do?

Photoshop cc 2014 freezes after start
Mac Book pro retina 2014, osx 10.9.5, creative cloud for team;
1) Launch Photoshop cc 2014
2) Photoshop FREEZES (can't open or work or save images)
3) "Applicazione non risponde"
4) Creating a new account on mac; Photoshop works in the new account;
5)in order to work with my traditional account, what can I do to solve this problem? Is it a good idea to disinstall/re-install software?

I do not see any indication what so ever of what is going wrong. I have uninstalled the program completely and re installed it with no effect.

Itunes 11.0.1 freezes after start up
hi, just downloaded 11.0.1 onto windows vista operating system laptop, previous version of itunes was fine. new version just freezes on both mine and my wife's computer after about 10 seconds after opening itunes. my music library is visible, but it just freezes if you try to select anything. not sure why the new version would not work when it all worked fine before...no changes made to any settings on either machine, so I'm at a loss as to why this new update doesn't work...I have noticed a few other people having problems, so is this a known thing, or am I just going to have to bin it and use spotify..?!
Not sure what OS you are using on your computer, but I have XP (still, I know... nuts to have that old of an OS).
But I just upgraded to iTunes 11 today and it is taking FOREVER to sync to my 4th gen iPod Touch. I thought it was strange that all the photos had to sync again.
At any rate, it may look at times like it isn't doing anything. But I found out that when I went to the system settings in the iPod, and to the WiFi sync screen, I could see some progress.
I'm really not happy at all with this version of iTunes so far!!! -
Macbook Pro freezes after "Starting automatic backup"
I'm having problems with my MacBook Pro often freezing when it cannot connect to TimeMachine (ie when I am out of the office).
Usually I get the following in the console logs:

15/11/12 4:13:32.612 PM com.apple.backupd[10512]: Backup failed with error: 19
which is fine, I don't expect it to backup without a TM present. However a couple of times a day I get:
15/11/12 5:14:07.668 PM com.apple.backupd[11400]: Starting automatic backup
Then all apps lock up, I cannot "force quit" anything, start terminal or shutdown without holding the power button down. The next line in the console log is then:
15/11/12 5:32:31.000 PM bootlog[0]: BOOT_TIME 1352961151 0
Nothing between the "Starting automated backup" and the reboot. I've checked the rest of the logs and found nothing suspicious in there.
Any ideas where to start looking for a solution to this? My first guess would be the snapshot is failing but I'm not sure how I can test this.
RobynI also have problems, and freezes. But I know where it comes from.
Since 10.6.3, temperature is far higher than on 10.6.2. And that's not due to CPU charge (ActivityMonitor). But iStatpro shows that the GPU is hot too (even idle) !
So I suppose that a background task is charging the GPU (OpenCL related ?).
I use SMCFanControl to speed up fans, but that's just a temporary fix. If Apple does not fix this quickly, I will downgrade to 10.6.2.
