Freezing iphone

hope someone can help...i have had my 3g iphone for nearlya year and is great but in the past 2weeks i have had problems with it. It keeps freezing..if i am for example viewing a facebook page it will freeze and will not do anything for ages. Sometimes it will take half hour to unfreeze or i have to wait until the battery runs out. When it freezes i cant turn it off!!!it just doesn't respond. I have also noticed that when using the phone for texting/reading emails/using apps it will take ages for it to open. I have the latest update software ect and has always been ok with it (until now sniff) i love my phone but this is making its usage frustrating and sometimes impossible...please can someone help?
Thanks for reading

I had a similar problem...
About 2 days ago I began having problems with Safari on my iPhone 3G. I could not view anything from Safari- the little wheel of death just kept spinning after I entered a search term in the Google bar. Email also seemed to be loading very slowly.
I clicked on "iPhone User Guide" from my app menu, selected "Troubleshooting," then selected "Websites, Text, or Email Aren't Available."
After reading through several suggestions, I finally found the one that did the trick... "Turn iPhone off and back on again."
So far, that solution has worked. Safari is back up and running efficiently.
I love my iPhone

    Hello rj_23_sv,
I would be be concerned too if I was not able to update my iPhone.  If you have not resolved the issue, I recommend following article for an issue like this:

As always, it is a good idea to create a backup before hand:

  • Upgrade to iOS 6.1 freezes iphone 4 - alternative resolution

Up til 2 weeks ago, my iPhone 4 was working great, but all of a sudden it started to hang or freeze on some regular apps.  Looking back, it may have something to do with iCloud linking to my iPad or perhaps a corrupt app, but I make a point of deliberately not downloading non-established apps that   aren't widely reported in regular or tech media.
Whatever it was, it frustrated the **** out of me. Hitting the home button didn't do much and in fact, even that only took it home 60% of the time.  When I saw the new iOS 6.1 software upgrade appear in my settings, I would normally leave it a couple weeks to let Apple iron out the bugs and dodge the rush that seems to inflict pain on so many others.  However, I figured it might just fix the problem.
I made sure I had more than 60% battery and did a remote update through WIFI.  The status bar appeared, filled up and it seemed to complete the process as you'd expect and then.... bang!  Nothing.  Well, apart from the Apple logo.  That's all I had for the next 3 days.
A regular reboot and "hard reset" (pressing the Power and Home buttons for 10secs, waiting for a refresh) didn't resolve anything.  What's worse, I had no way of telling how much battery life was left, so whilst trying out a Restore through iTunes (which initially didn't even recognise a device), I could feel my phone was overheating.  You could actually feel the heat through the screen and the back cover.
The next night I tried the restore from iTunes.  But my device wasn't even being recognised. I tried a hard reset whilst it was plugged in and after a few more attempts and a full scan and update to the latest iTunes, my device was eventually picked up (recognised), but still no change on the phone's screen.  Oddly, iTunes recognised that it was using iOS 6.1, but the phone itself was useless.  I gave up there and left the phone to cool down overnight, figuring a complete drain of the battery is a good thing anyways.
Next day, I took it to a trusted IT repairs store, who removed the cover, blew the dust out, checked it over and said they could try an engineer's reset to debug the software, but they needed much more time. He also said he had a 2 other iphones and an ipad with similar problems.  I said I'd try again over the weekend and as I had already booked an Apple specialist call the next morning.
    Those were the symptoms, here's my solution (I've stated all attributes, whether necessary or not);
Get to your regular PC and download the most up to date version of iTunes. (I'm using 11.0.1.12)
Get the correct cable you were given with your iPhone/ device.  Don't use a substitute and from what I've seen, always best to charge and use the charger and cable that comes with your iPad 3/ iPhone 4 or more.  They charge faster.
Suggestion: Don't run any other applications in your PC,unless say this webpage to read as you go.
Next the trick: Start iTunes on your laptop/ PC.
Plug the cable into your iPhone/ device.
Plug the USB end of the cable into your laptop/ PC.
Do the fast reset - pressing the Power and Home buttons for 10secs, wait for a black screen to signify the refresh and lift your finger off the POWER BUTTON ONLY.  Keep your finger down on the Home button.
Pretty soon after this, my iPhone gave me a new image, intimating that I now plug it into iTunes for a regular iTunes restore.
So I uncoupled the cable and plugged it back in again and it recognised the device and started the regular update process with a firmware update too.  I just let it do it's thing and pretty soon, we were there.
YOU WILL LOSE DATA STORED ON THE PHONE, but better than a frozen screen for 3 days, right?
So long as you have a recent backup on your PC, or the iCloud, then you should be able to work through a restore process and get your contacts, apps and photos back in place.
Unfortunately my last back up was to my PC last August and it suggests the device "didn't allow it", but hey, a spring clean is good for business.  I can use an earlier version, but I'm thinking I can live with this for a while.  I will however, start taking more notice of iCloud backups and
Good luck and keep the faith, persevere and you will get there!

Do you have iTunes 11 on your computer? If not update iTunes.
    Reboot your computer.
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Video in photo library keep freezing iPhone 6

    I have the iPhone 6 with 128GB
It seems commonly I will open up a video that i had previously taken to show a friend
the video open but will not play. I than will restart the phone and the same video will than play?
has anyone else had this problem? Sometimes as well after the video won't play the entire phone will freeze?

    pituspat,
I would recomend making a folder for the pictures you want to sync over on your Windows-based PC.
If you want to remove a photo from the iPhone, remove it from that folder, and on the next sync it will be removed from the iPhone.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Syncing music freezes iPhone and erases album artwork

This is ridiculous, I just bought the iPhone 6 and updated iTunes to the latest version (I'm on Windows 7). I try to sync new music and iTunes refuses to do so. Instead, it deletes all of my album artwork and just freezes while trying to sync. I added 3 songs to the library, but it says it's syncing 1 of 7 and just doesn't do anything at the first song (not the song I added, old song). Anyone know what is going on?

iTunes 12.1 is very unstable, as is iOS 8. There are just bugs with music management and syncing, simple as that. I have run into a number of issues, especially since 12.1. Music doesn't sync over at all, the device's library gets corrupted, album art disappears, etc.
A quick glance around these forums shows that a large number of people are having the same problems. iTunes and iOS are just extremely buggy, and our only recourse is to wait for software fixes.

  • ITtunes match freezes iphone 4s on ios6.

    Hello,
So far I've only found one other person who has the exact same problem and they can't fix it either. Apple flat out told me to my face the problem doesn't exist, so I'm not sure what to do.
Whether I'm on cellular or WiFi, the music app on my iPhone 4S, since upgrading to ios6, freezes irreversibly and without warning. Sometimes the music will continue playing, but since the music app stopped working, there's no way to shut it off other than muting the phone or shutting the phone itself off, which is more than a little annoying. I've tried quitting the music app, turning off Show All Music, iTunes Match, WiFi, Cellular, I've gone into and out of Airplane Mode, shut the phone down, reset the phone to factory settings, and nothing makes the issue go away. Usually after twenty minutes or so the music app unfreezes and plays like nothing ever went wrong, but within ten minutes it does it again. Then it's an average of twenty minutes down time while my four hundred dollar phone tries to remember how to accomplish complex tasks like streaming a single song.
I'm not being throttled either, as that was my first assumption.
Ironically, the only places the issue will not appear are Apple and AT&T stores. I've begged the employees to just walk around the block with me and see it quit working, but as I previously said, I've been told there is no issue, and I'm just out of cell range when it happens. Except that it happens when I have full bars on cellular, and on WiFi networks. Also, no other aspect of my phone has any issues, ever.
If anyone can offer any advice I'd be greatly appreciative!
    Thanks for reading!

A little patience would be a virtue. This is a volunteer-staffed user-to-user forum, and reposting after 5 minutes isn't likely to endear you to the other users who respond when they have time available.
If this problem happens everywhere you need to have the phone checked out, as Ralph says. If it is only in certain areas it could be network congestion or a partial network outage. If that is a possibility contact your carrier.

Wow, I found a solution in another thread:

Logging in to iTunes - Failed
Logging into itunes Store - Failed
Logging into iTunes Genius - SUCCESS    I woulnd't have thought it would make a difference but it does Then just log into the 'other' services with iTunes.
    Good luck!
I still need to know how to change the name to Ann, though, Mike keeps popping up - and yes, I have changed it under Settings.....

  • IOS 8.1 Erratic Connection to Phone Network and keyboard freezing iPhone 5S

I have an iPhone 5s running on AT&T's network with IOS 8.1 running.  The phone has erratic connection to the cellular network.  I worked with Apple tech support and they sent me a new phone, but I still had the problem.  Resetting network settings works for a few hours and I have to do it again.  The keyboard also freezes as the phone connects and loses connection continuously.
In complete desperation I erased all content and settings and refrained from doing a backup.  I'll let you know if it works.  Has anyone else solved this issue? It's concerning that this wasn't fixed in IOS 8.1.

If the new device was problematic, then I would suggest contacting AT&T to check on a new SIM, or if there is a tower problem in your area. The other problem could be something in the backup, but you have addressed that now with the restore as new. I have not seen anyone that I am familiar with here experiencing this problem. I would not determine it is an iOS problem since there are a number of other reasons for this problem.

  • IPod freezing iPhone

I have had my iPhone for about 2 weeks. Recently, within the last week, I have noticed that when playing it in my car, which is connected up through a 3.5mm jack that has been shaved away to fit the iPhone headphone port, the iPhone will freeze after a song finishes. The iPhone freezes with it in its standby position and sitting in my cup holder. Once I realize that the music is not continuing to play I have to reset the iPhone. So far this has only happened to me in my car, not when using headphones, or doing anything else. I really have no idea what could be causing this. Could the metal around the exposed 3.5mm jack be shorting the iPhone some how? If this even helps, here is the crash report:

One other thing to check out.
Are the songs the iphone keeps freezing on purchased from the itunes store or imported from other locations?
If they are purchased from the itunes store, try finding the song in itunes.
Right click or control click on the song and get info.
Go to the artwork tab and delete the art work.
Load the song back onto the iphone and try playing the song again.
If the song plays, find the same song in itunes again right click or control click on the song and get info again.
Go to the artwork tab and add art work back to the song.
Load the song back onto the iphone and try playing the song again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Icloud freezing iphone and ipad !

I have set up iCloud on my iMac and can log in from that however when I try on either the iPad or iPhone it freezes the screen saying username or password is wrong which I know is correct can then not make any changes and have to power down ,,,any ideas?

this is how I sorted our problem
On the Mac OS X system preferences select mobile me and sign out
I had also changed the password for the account to include an uppercase letter(not sure if this mattered) but then went into mail prefs on the phone and updated the password.
As soon as i did that on the phone everything changed to icloud, but we lost all previous emails, not sure if a backup will help, but this phone is now on icloud and not freezing..

  • Wifi seems to be freezing iphone on wake?

I seem to have narrowed down what might be causing my iPhone to freeze for a few seconds (probably 5 to 10) when I wake it up. I think it has something to do with my wifi connection. Here's what I think is happening, and if ANYONE is having this issue and found a fix please jump in. Thanks in advanced!
I never have my phone freeze on me through the day. However, when I come home, it seems to, after a while, start freezing when I wake it. The slider bar will pause, or sometimes when a call comes in or even had it freeze after the phone goes to the Home page.
I can turn the wifi on and the off and it will sleep and wake find for a while. I can also turn the Airplane mode on and off and the same thing...works for a bit and then goes back to freezing.
So my thoughts are that something with the wifi or connection is causing the phone to freeze. I've had the phone since the week they came out and it only started doing this about 2 to 3 weeks ago.
I've restarted and reset numerous times but still it will freeze up again ONLY when I'm at home. Otherwise I have NO issues.
Any suggestions or fixes? Could it be something in the phones cache that has gone currupt with my wifi. I haven't been able to try other wifi connections yet to see if the same thing happens outside of my home.
    Thanks everyone!
    Jenny

Here is a quick update to my issue. It seems that after testing the phone it IS something to do with the wifi. I don't know if it's the within the phone or if it something with my own network. But if I turn OFF my phone wifi and never allow it to connect at home the phone NEVER freezes. If I turn it on and connect...within an hour or less the phone will begin to freeze when waking it up or getting a call, etc. So I guess the next step is to test it using someone else's wifi or Starbucks or something. If it turns out NOT to happen there and only at home then I guess it's something with my personal network.
More later. Hope this helps someone who might be having the same issue.
    Thanks
    Jen

  • Searching Contacts Freezes iPhone 5 ios 7

Everytime I try to search for a contact the phone loads the first letter, but then the keyboard freezes for about 10 seconds.  Then whatever letters I typed while it was frozen appear all at once and it completes the search.
This has happened since ios 7.0.1 or so.  I'm currently on ios 7.1.1
I've looked around other forums and haven't found any cases of this.  Any advice?  I hate calling Apple, and the nearest store is an hour away, and only open while I'm at work.

    HootAppleUser wrote:
Similar problem with mine.  Once I tried the iTunes Restore procedure, it erased everything and now it says that it cannot be activated at this time--which is really any time because I have tried it over and over and get the same message.
The worst thing is that it is 4 months past the one year warranty.
    What can I do now?
HootAppleUser: I had the same problem with activation after the restore, i sent my iphone to the Seller and he told me that they will send it to Apple to get a new one instead. I think it is a Hardware issue like a problem with the IC and Apple didn't find a solution till now.

  • Mp3 Freezes iPhone 3Gs

    Dear All,
I bought iPhone 3Gs 32GB 4 days ago.Now i find that 3 Mp3 have issues that is when i try to play them the iPhone freezes and i have to press the home button twice to come out of it.I have issues only with this 3.But they play fine on my mac machine.....
    Any idea why................

You could also try removing all your music and readd the music and try again. It could be a fault on the transfer that is causing the error. If you just recently purchased the music and continue to have the problem, report your problem with Apple by clicking on your Account Login, finding the purchase, and request a redownload of the songs(album) that has failed to work on the iPhone.
Apple may unlock the music for a redownload.

  • Freezing iphone 4

All day today my iphone 4 keeps freezing when I try to send pictures through email. Why is that? The phone is only 6 months old and doesn't have any damage.

Then what I would try doing is force quitting those apps, restarting your phone, resetting your phone, deleting and then readding some of the apps that freeze (like Facebook) and then if all else fails you can try a restore on your phone to see if it fixes your issue.

  • Updating Iphone Firmware freezes Iphone... How can I stop it happening

    Hi all.
I have a persistant and irritating issue that whenever I attempt to download and install an iphone OS update, it will get to about 75% complete and then freeze. In order for me to sort this out, I have to unplug the iphone from my Macbook and install the update on my PC. This also happens with my Ipad.
Its a pain as it then means that once the OS update has been installed from my PC, I have to recreate my iphone from the last backup from my Macbook.
Has anyone else encountered this, and solved the problem without having to resort to using another computer or some other method. Would a complete uninstall and reinstall of Itunes help maybe?
Id like to be able to plug it in, install and go without the faf im currently having.
    My set up is:
    Iphone 4 - 32GB
    Ipad - 64GB
    Macbook Pro 13inch - 4mb RAM, 320GB hardrive
My macbook is brand new and I was hoping it would have solved the problem by having a new machine, but (maybe stupidly) I resorted this new Macbook from the Time Machine backup of my old one so that all my data was transferred, so I think that if its something to do with the Macbook, the problem has been transferred over from my old one.
    Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same issue. Initially I thought it was my phone, but now believe it to be the iMacI'm using to perform the update.
I first had problems when I tried to update my iPhone 3g to ios 4.0 a few months ago. It would get about 2/3 of the way through the update then hang. I took it to the Genius Bar and they were able to perform the update with no issues.
Then yesterday I tried to upgrade to 4.1. Had the same exact problem. I went back to the Genius Bar again and this time I was given a replacement 3g. However the replacement phone was only at ios 4.0. When I got home I tried to update the new phone to 4.1 and again, it hangs at about 2/3 of the way through the update. Since this has now happened on 2 phones, that pretty much means it's got to be my computer.
I've tried all the troubleshooting tips I could find. I've put the phone into DFU mode, tried different USB ports, removed and reinstalled iTunes, even reinstalled OS X 10.6 on my iMac, and I'm still having the issue.
Unfortunately now it looks like my only option is to use my Dell laptop to do the upgrade...how tragic!
