Freezing my computer since upgrading, freezing my computer since upgrading

i have snow leopard and installed iphoto 11. Now my computer freezes especially when i have my iphone plugged in

Regardless of what Intego claims, test to see if it works better without their software. If it does, then I'd submit a support request to them. Firewall software by the way has one serious weakness, and that unlike firewall hardware, the software can more easily be manipulated than those settings on a hardware firewall.
Clam XAV is here:

Just to note, there are currently no Mac OS X viruses in the wild. You are primarily preventing yourself from passing on viruses to PC users. Of course you can also do this by proactively only accepting e-mail attachments from people you know have no risk of having put viruses on their attachments in the first place.

Since my last flash upgrade I haven't been able to play any games like farmville 2. When I try my game freezes every few seconds, and then my whole computer freezes and I have to do a manual shutdown.  I have tried everything I could find on your help site and nothings working. I do not have a Realplayer, I have a Realtek player so I did not complete any of those help instructions. What do I do now?

  • Please help - computer is crashing & freezing ever since upgrade to Leopard

Ever since upgrading to Leopard, my computer has been crashing a lot more. Sometimes it just freezes up. Most recently, I got the gray screen with a bunch of different languages telling me to restart using the power button. Here is the crash report. Can anyone tell me what's going on, and if there's anything I can do to help?
    Thanks!

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Since I upgraded to Lion, my computer (iMac mid 2010) intermittently freezes.

Since I upgraded to Lion 10.7.3, my computer (iMac mid 2010) intermittently freezes.  The mouse moves, but I can't do anything.  I can unfreeze it every time by calling up the Force Quit box and then excaping out.  I've tried everything (all upgrades installed including firmware, new version of Flash), but it still freezes.  Any help is appreciated.

There are a couple of things to do. First is restart in the Recovery Partition and repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility and Repair the Disk. How you do this is when you hear the startup tone hold down the Option key and choose the Recovery Partition. Choose Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions at least twice. Then while you are in DU run Repair Disk twice. Quit Disk Utility and restart however restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches, it's possible one or more has become corrupt. After it has fully restarted then restart normally and test.
If you get the same behavior post back to try some other items.
BTW how much Free RAM does the machine have. You can find this out in Activity Monitor which is in Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor and click the System Memory tab.

  • FireFox upgraded automatically today and since then I can't launche it...it freezes up and I have to shut it off at the computer...I can access Internet Explorer

FireFox automatically upgraded today. When I try to launche it, it only loads about half the page. (I use Google as my home page) It just gets stuck there. I try to close out the page and I get "this program is not responding". I can launche Internet Explorer with no problem, (I much prefer using FF, but if I can't get into it...) so it has to be something with FireFox. FF freezes, so I end up having to shut of my computer AT the computer, because it won't shut off at the desktop monitor. Windows asks me to send a report and I have. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but my Norton antivirus prevented a plugin from happening...I don't really understand it all...
I just tried to open my home page again and got the message way up at the top of the page " Mozilla FireFox (not responding)

  • I have windstream as an isp. Since your upgrade from 4.0, and their upgrade, my computer is very slow, drops, freezes and to be frank, a pain in the back side. It was better with 4.0. Can I go back?? I need help!

I currently have firefox 6.0, and the newer version of windstream email. When I open firefox and then go to windstream.net and attempt to log into my email account, the program goes into a loop cycle and it keeps returning to the log in page. I have contacted Windstream and they say it is not their fault, but they also said that they were having problems with other customers. I can get to the email via IE, My computer is a Dell 3200 Inspirion and is and was very fast, enough so for me, but when you have to wait 2 minutes for an email to open, . Running some of the commerical virus program checker's, they identify problems, but this problem has only shown up since your upgrade from 4.0 and windstreams upgrade to a newer version of their email system....

  • Ever since installing iCloud and Lion my computer is slow or freezes.  The color wheel comes on and My work stops.  I have only a small window of time where my computers will function normally during the day. I know many others that have the same problem.

Ever since installing iCloud and Lion my computer is slow or freezes.  The color wheel comes on and My work stops.  I have only a small window of time where my computers will function normally during the day. I know many others that have the same problem. I'll get 20-30 minutes of work done and then a sync or something comes on, the color wheel of death shows up, and my productivity is shot.  I have to shut the computer down the hard way!  when it comes back up, it is still either frozen or slow.  I've checked in at the genius bar and all they say is that there have been some problems that Apple is trying to fix.  It effects Mail, Contacts, Safari, Calendar....yeah, pretty much everything.  My iPhone and iPad are not effected as much so I end up doing what I can with them.  I've seen the blogs out there and understand that many have the same problem.  I have been waiting to read about a fix but I have found nothing!  Any ideas?

Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
For startup issues...  open System Preferences > Users & Groups - Login Items. Delete any apps listed there then restart your mac.
And disable the Lion "resume" feature.
    Open System Preferences > General
Deselect:   Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
And Spotlight may be indexing... you can turn that off > Turning Off Spotlight | Mac Tricks And Tips

  • 2007 iMac freezes up, rainbow wheel appears when this happens. I know the computer is starting to get old but I can't afford a new one at this time and would love to continue using my Mac, but it's frustrating. Would a fresh install or OS upgrade resolve?

My circa 2007 iMac freezes up, and rainbow wheel appears when this happens. I know the computer is starting to get old but I can't afford a new one at this time and would love to continue using my Mac, but it's frustrating. Most of the time I ONLY have 1 thing open at a time, and keep my tabs down to a minimum. I bought this to do film editing on but with it acting like this I cannot do that. I know I need a ram upgrade (currently running 2 gb) and my OS is old, 10.5.8, but I think even with it being a bit outdated it should run better than this. Would a fresh install or OS upgrade resolve this? Or any other suggestions to keep this clunker chugging along for a little while longer?

How full is the hard drive?
Do you run any virus software or hard drive "cleaner" software like MacKeeper?
If your model is from 2007 you can install up to 6 GBs of RAM.
2 GBs is the barest of minimum RAM for OS X to run on.
Especially if doing video work. You simply do not have sufficient RAM.
Also OS X 10.5.8 Leopard support ended around 2009.
You could update to OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, at least.
It is available on disc from the Apple store for U.S. $19.99.
I Would seriously upgrade your iMac's RAM to the max. 6 GBs before doing this.
Reliable Mac RAM can be purchase from online Mac RAM source Crucial memory or OWC ( also known as macsales).

  • My ipod has stopped working since the laptop turned off during synching.it shows no music and wont play games also is slower, constantly resets and freezes itunes when connected to computer.if i switch it off a spinning wheel appears till batt dies.help?

My Ipod has stopped working properly since the laptop shut down during synching.
My ipod is being slower and wont show any music. when I go into general settings it says the music and videos are loading..
It wont let me into settings all of the time either.
My applications and games have become slow or unresponsive.
The ipod keeps resetting itself, I have tried resetting it to no avail.
I tried plugging it into itunes but it freezes itunes and wont show up on my computer.
When I switch off the ipod it shows a spinning wheel until the battery dies, which could be nearly 2 hours!!
does anyone have any advice as to what to do?
currently ive reset it - nothing has happened
ive let the battery drain itself then recharged it to see if that would make a difference - no difference
    Help ASAP needed

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.

  • I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now my computer keeps freezing.  How to fix?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and nowmy computer keeps freezing.  How do I fix this?

I know you have 10.8.4. I'm asking you to download and install a Combo updater. This is not the same updater used through the App Store when you simply upgraded from 10.8.3. And, before you do that I suggest you do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

This forum is for people to discuss issues with other users. Apple aren't here. No one here can give you your money back. So, contact the the App Store support, if that's where you bought it. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store window.

  • HT3918 I upgraded to 16 mb of ram and after 10 minutes my computer freezes, and ideas?

I upgraded to 16 mb of ram and after 10 minutes my computer freezes, and ideas?  I have an imac mid 2011 21 inch.

Cause and effect points to out-of-spec memory.
Run Apple Hardware Test. Run the extended tests.
      Using Apple Hardware Test
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
If it fails the memory tests, remove the memory and re-seat it. The sockets are very "tight". Run AHT again.
If it still fails, replace your original memory. If it works, you found the problem. Buy Mac memory from Crucial or OWC / MacSales.

  • Why do the upgrades from OS X 10.3.6 to OS X 10.6.8 keep my computer freezing?

    Hi,
I understand that I should get some Apple Hardware Tests to solve freezing applications problems I already had before upgrading to Lion to Leopard to mountain lion.
I do not succeed to follow the directions I've been provided i.e. turn off the computer, and press the D key before the screen turns grey.
From there, I keep on coming back to my starting screen as if I had pressed nothing, or too late.
Any suggestion?  I start to lose it.
    Thanks.

You posted in the OS 10.3 and earlier forum instead of the Leopard OS 10.5 forum. To get answers to your question, next time post in the proper forum. See https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa  I'll request that Apple relocate your post.
