Freezing on timeline

It's a difficult problem to explain concisely but here goes. As I start to build a project on the timeline, adding effects/transitions as I go, it will start to freeze during playback. The soundtrack used to play on quite smoothly although, recently, this has also been freezing. Working yesterday, the whole thing just froze on one frame during playback, sound also, and, lacking a reset button, I had to unplug the system to get things going again. I hate having to do that.
All clips in the clip frame play smoothly and the problem only surfaces once they are in the timeline. When it first started happening, it would freeze on one frame for a second or two and then play on smoothly for a while, but now, even when the soundtrack continues to play, it can freeze on one frame for 10/20 seconds, making it impossible to view the work. We did think it may be a hard-drive problem but this seems unlikely as it happens whichever hard-drive is being used. We use G-Raids now, having started with a Lacie. Oddly enough, any dvd burned will play without problem, so it seems everything on the timeline IS alright, even if you do have to make a disc to check that it is.
We're at our wit's end with this - it's driving us nuts. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks.

Hi,
The internal hard drive has 40GB+ on it, the external hard drives are OS extended formatted, I have the latest version of QT, never even close to >50 audio clips. I do use third party plugins but, they've been working fine. Interestingly enough, if I do a share of selected clips only, put them through JES deinterlacer (great piece of software by the way), import it back in and drag it on to the timeline there is no sticking/freezing whatsoever. A puzzle indeed.
Cheers

  • Constant crashes / freezes in Timeline

    I know this has been addressed and maybe there's just no answer but here goes.
    I'm working on a relatively simple project w all clips form the same source - 1080p / 23.976 / HDSLR, 1 adjustment layer, simple gamma and contrast effects on a few clips, 1 audio track with music only  / compressed mp3
    After about 15 minutes of work the timeline freezes / unable to use any controls but the audio keeps running. this usually happens when simply playing the sequence back in the tl but sometimes it will happen when working in the source monitor. while it's consistently happening i can not recreate the problem at will. And all the clips are local on my HD not connected to external storage.
    My set up ...
    PP CC 2014 8.2.0 build 65
    osx 10.9.4
    late 2013 IMac 3.4 / i5
    GTX 775 2gb vram
    16bg ram
    using an identical imac as a second display connected via thunderbolt
    Steps I've taken ... (not nec in order)
    reboot
    reset smc
    repaired permissions globally
    confirmed all adobe folders are set to read / write and reapplied permissions
    deleted previews / re-rendered.
    manually cleared media cache
    turned off adjustment layer
    confirmed video card firmware is current
    switched mercury playback to sw only from CUDA
    At this point PP is essentially unusable - I cant imagine the issue is with my set up since i'm able to run media composer and resolve both quite resource intensive programs just fine. ... no not at the same time and they're not open while use PP.
    I'm pretty much at my wits end and would really appreciate any advice.
    Thanks!

    I posted on the problem of a clip freezing on its last frame if played in the in the timeline. The audio would continue, but the video froze. I found that applying a filter to the clip that froze on its last frame would sometimes fix the problem. I used the motion filter with a scale factor of 101%, others have used 99% opacity. I have also observed that the fix does not always work.
    When the timeline is output to video, there is no freeze.
    I believe someone else was able to solve the problem by re-capturing the video for the problem clips.

  • Playback freezes in timeline

    I've seen other posts about this.
    I am using FCE HD and a Maxtor 250 GB Firewire drive. I'm working on a concert video, combining clips from 4 cameras (4 angles). I captured the clips via FCE and can edit them, but certain clips freeze when playing back in the timeline, however, the clips play fine in the viewer. The scratch disk is on the external firewire drive which was wiped clean (erased by the disc utility application) immediatly prior to capturing the clips.
    I'd read earlier posts about this problem, and there was a reference to another discussion/thread that, unfortunately, is no longer available. What I have been able to piece together, is that if I change the opacity of the clip to 99%, the problem goes away. My experience is that it goes away sporadically, which is, needless to say, very frustrating.
    Can anyone give me a suggestion about this? I wasn't clear if I was supposed to change the opacity of the clip that was freezing or the one preceeding it or the one subsequent to it. Also, if I burn it to a DVD, would you expect the DVD to play smoothly, or will the freeze appear as a glitch on the final DVD?
    Thanks for any help or info about this.

  • Quick time 7.1.6 freezes

    I installed Quick Time 7.1.6 (forgive me, I am a brand new MAC user). About 2 minutes into the video, the video stops, however, the time keeps running as well as the "little glass like figure". When I try and "drag" the figure, the word "unauthorized" appears in the bar and I can't do anything. When the video first starts, if I hit the fast forward button, same thing, the word "unauthorized" appears in the bar and won't let me do anything. However, on some sites like CNN.COM, it plays fine and I can fast forward, backward, etc......any reason on some videos it plays normal and some not?
    Thanks for your help!!

    I have a new Macbook pro and was able to stream Divx and Apple TV encoded content (Recorded from EYE TV) wirelessly from my Mac Pro to MacBook Pro so I could watch on the laptop.
    I updated QuickTime to 7.1.6 and streaming went bye bye.
    The video opens and starts great but a few seconds/minutes the video freezes, the timeline is still playing. Sometimes the screen goes green.
    A quit lets it play again, but only for a few seconds/minutes.
    If I copy the file to my computer it plays fine.
    The streaming worked great and 7.1.6 seems to have screwed something.
    Any ideas? How can I uninstall it and go back to 7.1.5 without reinstalling Mac OSX?

  • Conditional "time function" to play timeline

    Hello everyone:
    I'm having trouble doing something I thought would be simpler. I have done this in AS/Flash but it doesn't seem to work in Edge. I have a small animation in the timeline (1s animation of alpha 0 to alpha 100 of group of objets) and I would like it to play specifically at a given time.
    I created a funcion called updateClock() that checks the system time and gets hours and minutes and I call this function every second so it updates with setTimeout. I have a conditional to play the animation at a given time (you might need to change this line) that starts at frame 1000, or else, that it freezes the timeline at that very same frame. Finally I call the function.
    Right now this code is in .compositionReady, but I also tried a trigger at 1000 ms. Any help with this would be appreciated. At 1000 ms the trigger sym.stop() works. Right now not even that works and the animation plays by itself.
    function updateClock() {
        var now = new Date(); // current date
                var m = d.getMinutes();
                var h = d.getHours();
        // call this function again in 1000ms
        setTimeout(updateClock, 1000);
        if(h== 20 && m== 56) {
    //run the animation
    sym.play(1000);
      else {
      sym.stop(1000);
    updateClock(); // initial call
    Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

    You have to use a global variable (sym.updateClock). Here is a case.
    1) compositionReady panel:
    function updateClock() {
      var now = new Date();
      var m = now.getMinutes();
      var h = now.getHours();
      console.log(h,":",m);
      sym.updateClock = setTimeout(updateClock,1000);
    updateClock();
    2) With a click event or a trigger:
    clearTimeout(sym.updateClock);

  • Final Cut Express HD freezes sometimes

    Sometimes FCE will freeze during timeline playback on a certain clip. I insert the clip into the timeline and playback and it freezes and when I click something I get the beach ball. I force quit and go back and it does the same.
    I delete the clip and then re-insert the clip it and play it it does it again, but if I use a different clip its fine. I have tried to change the in piont of the clip a bit and it still the same.
    In one instance I changed the speed of the clip and it worked fine. This clip is like all my others, DV that I shot on a sony pc 101, imported just fine.
    I have about 130 gigs of video and about 10 minutes of edited project so far and this has happened with 2 clips. But is is really bugging me. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.
    John

    Tom- At work now so I'll try and get you the detailed specs later tonight.
    My set up is very much "plug-and-play", install defaults. The drives I use are assembled by Pacific Pro Audio using WB and some "Oxford 911" chip set. I know nothing other then they are my audio dealers for the studio and I never have any issues with the drives in the recording studio with my dual 1.8, 2.5 gig ram, OS 10.3.9. I gone through easily a dozen of them on various projects.
    They format and split the drives into three volumes before they send them to me as I'm told that is a more efficient way to use for Pro Tools. Again, not a techie here but after 15 years with these guys, they've never be wrong yet so I take the word for it.
    As for this particular computer, the only add-on apps I run is Aperture, Dreamweaver, Logic Pro, Sountracks Pro and Final Cut Express. The Prosonus is my only add-on piece of hardware besides the drive. All audio and video is set to go to the external drive, all settings are defaults and I haven't had to load any other drivers.
    This comp has had very little work since I picked it up a 6 months ago. Mostly email, a few hours of video and some miscellaneous songwriting in Logic. It's darn near "fresh out of the box". I'd be hard pressed to find anything strange in my set up.

  • Problem with Matrox Mini, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570, Premiere 5.5.2 and After Effects CS5.5

    Hello,
    We have a couple video workstation PC's in our office.
    Premiere and After Effects have been crashing lately with increasing frequency - about every two minutes now.
    Here is the setup:
    Hardware
    Matrox Mini - Matrox Utility release 5.5.1
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 - Driver release 275.33
    Intel Xeon X5660 2.8 GHz processors
    24 GB Ram
    Software
    Adobe CS5.5, specifically...
    After Effects 10.5.0.253
    Premiere 5.5.2
    Windows 7 64-bit
    We have two 21" LCD monitors in dual display running from the computer, and the Matrox Mini outputs a preview signal to a 15" CRT.
    The crashes occur when I have After Effects and Premiere open at the same time. I am editing in a Matrox 720p29.97 timeline in Premiere. I imported several compositions from AE into Premiere through Dynamic Link and am matching audio with the animations in comps. When I switch back to AE to make an edit in the comp, After Effects generates a crash warning and then gives me the opportunity to save the project under a new name. After saving, it closes down completely. The Matrox WYSIWYG Control Panel in the system tray crashes during AE's crash, disabling the preview to the CRT from Premiere and AE. Since the Premiere sequence is a Matrox preset - in order to have output to the CRT - this freezes the timeline; the video and audio no longer play. When I save and then try to close Premiere, Premiere freezes and will not close without a force quit via the Task Manager.
    In order to deal with this temporarily, I am editing in an AVCHD 720p30 sequence preset in Premiere, which doesn't send a preview feed to the CRT, obviously, since it's not a Matrox preset and the CRT is connected via the Matrox Mini. It's more than a minor inconvenience, since I use the CRT for color accuracy.
    It is frustrating, since we did not have this problem until the recent CS5.5.2 update. We have tried changing drivers for the GTX 570 and changing the Matrox utility software to other versions, but no luck.
    Is there a combination of GTX 570 drivers, Matrox software releases, and AE/Premiere settings that will make this work? I know there are "Known Issue" posts with Nvidia cards on Matrox's website, which include the GTX 570, but, again, this problem started with the Adobe CS5.5.2 update.
    Any help here would be great, and I am willing to provide more information about the system and our crashes if it helps find a solution for the community, as I know this is not an isolated problem after reading Nvidia's, Matrox's, and Adobe's forums. I just can't find a hollistic solution on any of the individual manufacturer's forums.
    Thank You.
    Jordan

    I've been running with Matrox for years, starting with the Axio LE. I do 75% broadcast work and find that the Matrox works very well with my kind of workflow. Monitoring is critical and since we have to deal with 3rd. party solutions, Matrox was my pick dating way back to 2006. Sure I've had frustrations with it, but I've made far more money off Matrox than frustration.
       Here's my nearly crash-free setup:
    Gigabyte GZ-X58A-OC moboard
    Intel 990X (only overclocking to 4.0)
    24Gb of Kingston HyperX Ram
    GTX580 Graphics Card
    Matrox MXO2-LE w/Max
    Crucial 240Gb Sata III drive (the one that has a nearly perfect score on Newegg's site)
    2 x 2Tb WD Blacks Raid 0
    2 x 1Tb WD Blacks Raid 0
    Win 7 Ultimatte (it's a high-end version of Windows that's great for keying!)
    CS5.5 Suite
    Boris Red 5
    Boris Continuum Complete 8
    Trapcode Shine, Form, 3d Stroke, Starglow, and Particular
    Optical Flares by Video CoPilot
       The reason I list all of that software, is that it all seems to get along together, including with Matrox! So, I can't say I highly endorse Matrox because I've never tried Black Magic or running an external monitor off of my video card.
        I use After Effects with all sorts of plug ins and rarely have crashes. If I put in a long day I'll have the usual crashes here and there (mainly with PremierePro), but nothing that has required evan a soft reboot of the computer.
       My frustration with Matrox is mainly the delay that often comes with Adobe coming out with a new release and Matrox taking 2 or 3 months to catch up, though when Adobe went from 5 to 5.5, there was no delay at all.
       I think that a lot of the people who trash Matrox probably haven't used a Matrox product in years. But before you listen to me, I must confess that I was an early adopter (and advocate) of SSDs and even today, many people on this forum think they're still a waste of money!
       I'll close by simply saying that I've not left Matrox after 5+ years, but keep in mind I haven't had the bad experiences that so many others seem to have had, but again, perhaps they had those bad experiences long ago.

  • No sound on net!

    I can get iTunes to play, all of my system sounds play, yet I can't get sound from either Safari OR Mozilla Firefox. I've checked all the settings I can find, but for some reason I still can't get sound from anything internet related (youtube, music webpages... anything). Anyone have a suggestion? Is there a random setting I have missed? I have a feeling it's system related, but I haven't the slightest.

    "Ok, I don't know whether or not to post my question as answered. Last week my moniter went out, so I had to reset the pRAM, and I think THAT solved my sound issue. I really wish that I could have solved it with trying these methods rather than having to reset my pRAM.... I'm wondering what caused it, and in the future how to fix it if it happenes again.
    I agree that I come to this forum for real answers from real people. I could call tech support and sit on hold for an hour, or I could post a question and hope that someone else out there has had the same problem and can help me solve mine easily.
    Oh well, thanks for everyone's suggestions, apparently I fixed this one on my own without even meaning to.
    Good to hear you got your sound back. Cassafrass, I definitely would NOT say this question is answered 100% yet. All though I did just narrow this issue down quite a bit (once again this IS if me and you are in fact experiecing the same exact thing.).... Heres what I found for sure....
    It is definitely the Audio/Midi setting in the Utility folder. My sound (and video) just did the same thing again. Sound cut out on net and in various video players (quicktime, Real player, Windows media, and MPlayer), BUT iTunes and all other computer interface sounds were working just fine. Video on them players also seemed to play buggy, they would play for about 10 seconds then screen would freeze but timeline marker was still moving, etc...
    So I went directly to my Audio/Midi setting utility and SURE ENOUGH !!! (in the AUDIO tab) My input and output AUDIO setting was somehow on 96k !! I then set them both to 44.1k, and like magic, everything was working fine again.
    So thats it. For sure. Thing is, like I am saying, somehow it will just jump back to 96k with out us doing ANYTHING. Even worse, sometimes you will go there and it will be on 44.1k, but you still have to switch it off of 44.1k (like to 96k or something) and then back to 44.1k, THEN it will fix it too. So sometimes it doesn't even show that it is off, but it is effecting it and it needs to be reminded it is on 44.1k or something. Either way, it fixes it if you do that.
    OTHER monkey wrench in the whole equation is what happened to you, that also happens to me. I do something else, and it fixes it too. One time it just fixed itself !! So when you reset your P-Ram and it fixed it, that was just how it works. Sometimes reseting anything will fix it. Restarting, Launching all players then quiting them, Repairing disk permissions, etc.... These are all like "sort-a fixes".. Problem is, is they do not work all the time. BUT if you go to Audio/Midi Utility and do what I said, that will fix it 100% of the time.
    OTHER monkey wrench also,,, This thing happens/spawns/grows out of no where, no matter what. Meaning if you start a new user account, of coarse it will not have the issue. BUT keep using that account for the next few months, and BOOM !! It will show up on that new account, and you will have to do the same thing to it.
    As Arnie said though, it sounds like what happens is a corruption of the Audio/Midi preference, and it just happens. We could trash it and let it rebuild itself, and redo your settings which is not that big of a deal,, BUT now my question is, is,, will it just corrupt itself again ?
    I will be testing this last theory for as long as it takes, and I will report back.
    And Cassafrass, can you please tell me your use of Audio and Video on your computer ? Like are you a professional user ? Or at least a extensive user of them two things on your computer ? Do you have Quicktime Pro ? Do you have and use ALOT of Players ? Etc....
    Arnie Wrote:
    "system has a bunch of preference files that are usually set by using "preference panes" in System Preferences utility.
    in fact, "preference files" are text files written in XML language, and if preference file gets corrupted, setting it via preference panes or utilities may not fix the problem - the whole preference file may need to be deleted, so new one is created after login.
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040623070038472
    creating new user allows quickly determine if the issue is within the account only - if it is, relevant preference files would have to be identified and removed as possible fix.
    if creating new user does not resolve the issue, it could be caused by OS-wide preferences, corrupted system files etc.
    so, setting something by using utility, actually changes contents of "com.whatever.plist" preference file.
    plist files are located in separate Library folders for both the OS and any user.
    preference file for sound is located in:
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.GlobalPreferences.XXXXXXXXXXXX.plist
    since the filename starts with the ".", it will not be visible it can be located by using file search:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107005
    you could try deleting the file to see if it fixes the issue. try at your won risk though."
    You brought up some VERY good points here Arnie, which is giving me a bunch of new ideas and solutions and troubleshooting power here. THANKS !!
    As you may have read above in my reply to Cassafrass, I have found a definite break through with this issue, and what seems to be a solid solution that works everytime for sure, BUT as stated problem is, is issue comes back, but then fixing it fast now is possible so you can go on with watching your clips on the net or whatever....
    With this new find ALONG with the information in your post, I am strongly beliving YES it is a corrupted preference file. And due to what I found, obviously the file is the Audio/Midi utility preference file. BUT why is it getting constantly corrupted is a mystery. Either way I valued and appreciate your input, and I am now going to get a little further with the next stage of troubleshooting this issue. It will take sometime though, as I need to wait until it happens again, and even more than once to fully go through with a few different scenarios, etc...
    Also like I stated above in my reply to Cassafrass, I feel this file after getting fixed/trashed/recreated will just possibly re-corrupt itself like it does when I fix it, OR like it obviously did in the first place to get in this situation.
    And I know what you are thinking, cause I am thinking the same thing. Why am me and only a few people experincing this and not you and the rest of the PowerBook 17inch users ?
    The answer to that could be several reasons. Like maybe it only happens to people who professionally (like me) or just extensively use Audio/Video stuff and applications, etc.. ?
    So that is my next question to Cassafrass. What is his use of Audio and Video on his computer ? Etc...

    Hi,
    Sorry to hear about the experience. Can you please try this:
    Go to the following locations:
    Location 1: When in Finder, click on Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
    Location 2: Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe
    Location 3: Documents > Adobe
    In all the locations, rename the 'Adobe' folders to 'OldAdobe'
    Launch Premiere, accept the License Agreement and see if it works.
    Note: You will lose your customized workspaces and keyboard shortcuts. Wait for Premiere to generate the media cache the first time you launch the project.
    Also i would suggest you to make this change if the playback issue continues and see if it works better:
    Under File > Project settings > General, change the Video renderer to Mercury Playback Engine software only. Click OK and select "Delete Previews"
    Thanks,
    Rameez

  • Motion frames - Help!!

    I've just recently joined the mac revolution and still finding my way round everything. Im trying to create a text effect in motion and so far I've managed to make the graphic come in from the left, I now want it to stay on the screen for a certain number of frames before exiting back to the left. I know I could probably do it frame by frame but is there a way of freezing the timeline to a certain point then start the effect at say frame 90 and end at frame 100 instead of it gradually occuring through out?
    I used to work with flash on my pc and this would work by inserting keyframes on the timeline and the graphics would not move until I put another keyframe in. Is there anything similar to this on motion?
    I'm new to this so if you explain in the simplest possible way it would be appreciated!!

    hi,
    yes you can exactly the same thing in motion. One way to achieve this would be to do this:
    create your text object and place it in the middle of the screen ( or where ever you want it to be still), move the playhead to point where you want to start. That is to say where it will stop moving after it has come in. With the text object selected go to the Inspector and add a key frame for the position. Then move the playhead to the beginning of the sequence. Move the text to where you want it off stage and add a keyframe. it should now move on and stay put. Move the playhead to where you want it to start moving off in the timeline. Add a keyframe. Now move the playhead to where it should stop moving. Move the text obect off stage and add a keyframe.
    There are many other ways of doing this, behaviours as Adam mentions is another way. Keep playing around it'll click soon

  • Frequent lock-up of iTunes Store feed

    We got our ATV a couple of weeks ago. Everything was fine at first. Watched a couple of movies on our Netflix Instant View without a hitch. But a week ago I was watching a flick and the picture froze as though I'd paused it. I messed around with the hand control--which didn't seem to do anything--and it finally restarted in a minute or two. Then it happened again. And again. But this really started happeneing since we've been renting TV shows from iTunes. It would freeze, the timeline indicator would appear with the little endlessly spinning wheel indicating it was waiting for signal to download or something. I messed again with the hand control and a dialog would appear saying stuff like "Loading..." or "Ready to Play in 18 minutes (or 25 minutes, or 1 hour and 15 minutes)" and we'd have to sit there and wait for it to decide to say "Your TV show is available. Press Play to begin." If we hit fast forward before it was ready (trying to goose the thing) it would lock up and start the process all over again.It was getting to the point where an 42-minute program would take an hour's time to watch.
    I tried changing cables and went back to a rented show where it had happened and it worked fine. I then changed back to the original cable and it too worked fine. However it was earlier in the day and it got me to wondering if it's a server streaming issue. Could this be it? I'm at a loss. It's making me question the worth of this paradigm.

    I think that it might be caused by some problems in your feed. You have a lot of HTML in your podcast description and subtitle areas that could possibly be causing iTunes to have problems reading it properly.
    I ran the feed through feedvalidator.org and it popped up several problems. One of your <itunes:subtitle> tags is too long. The <itunes:subtitle> should just be a short one line description of the podcast episode. Feedvalidator is saying that one of these is over 255 characters in length.

  • Sluggish timeline and glitching/freezing program monitor in Premiere Pro CC 8.1

    Hi all,
    I've recently switched from CS6 to the 2014 Adobe CC due to a student license expiring. I'm also somewhat new to r3d workflow so chances are I may be doing something wrong.
    I've worked on one other project with a mix of r3d and DSLR footage in CS6, but this is my first time cutting with red footage in Premiere CC.
    *Apologies in advance for the novel, but I figured I'd be as thorough as possible to hopefully help get this issue resolved for myself any anyone else who's experiencing this.*
    I'm cutting a 9:30 "party mix" in a music video style edit. So far I've had several (seemingly random) issues and glitches, that have been making my life exceptionally difficult and this 10/30 deadline exceptionally scary.
    I'm working with content that we captured using exclusively RED Epic Dragon, and Epic Mysterium cameras. We recorded with several different frame rates, with varying resolution, compression, and aspect ratios. Project was set in-camera to 23.976.
    Issue #1
    I've created a nearly two hour, organized roll of sub-clip selects in a RED R3D 2K 23.976 16x9 timeline, in which i'll use to browse my raw media when sequencing on a timeline stacked directly below.
    Often times when pulling clips from one timeline down to the other, the over-all responsiveness of the program will become ultra sluggish. Causing a clip (that's being dragged/placed) to lag heavily, maybe a couple seconds behind my cursor. This issue will often resolve itself after maybe 5 minutes or so, but makes fluid sequencing rather difficult.
    Issue #2
    The other issue I'm having is a glitchy or completely unresponsive program monitor. Again this issue appears to be totally random, and seems to happen most when I'm deep into some really intense sequencing/ clip arrangement, and scrubbing quickly.
    Usually a portion of a single clip (or sometimes a couple clips) will freeze up in the program monitor while I'm scrubbing over them on the timeline. This will sometimes cause them to freeze all together during playback as well as cause surrounding clips to lag a bit (maybe 4-8fps).
    I'll scrub back over the problem area and sometimes get a solid green bar halfway through my image, usually right before the program monitor just reads solid black throughout the entire timeline. This issue is temporarily resolved by restarting the program (about every 15-30 minutes).
    Issue #3
    As I'm scrubbing I'll also experience heavy glitching with both my image and the program monitor GUI itself. However, this issue typically wont affect playback.
    I've uploaded a quick camera-phone video of this issue as it's a little tough to describe Program monitor glitch - YouTube
    I know the timeline is un-rendered in this sample, (but this issue happens either way).
    Two painstaking weeks later, I've finally completed the first pass.
    Working on revisions now, and ultimately I'd like to copy paste the sequence into a 4K timeline for before After Effects work and export.
    I tried pulling it into a 4K timeline (with playback set to 1/8 res) and the issues stated above got 10x worse.
    Sticking to the 2K timeline for now (with playback at 1/4 res)
    P.S. I'm also cutting a much simpler corporate project with 5DMKIII footage and having no real issues.
    As for my rig,
    I'm running Adobe Premiere CC 2014 v8.1
    Freshly installed Windows 7 Professional SP1 PC Desktop
    Freshly installed Samsung 1TB SSD running my OS and Adobe CC
    Intel Core i7-2600k CPU at 3.4GHz (8CPUs) - Watercooled
    16GB Ram (3gb allocated for other programs)
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 4GB GDDR5 - 3.40.62 Drivers installed
    Pulling media from 2x 3TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM drives, striped at RAID 0
    Thanks for reading!
    -Sam

    So it seems to be behaving slightly better in "Software Only"
    Though slightly less frequently, I'm still running into the issues stated above, mostly issue #2.
    I also have a new problem to add to this thread as I'm starting to pull clips into After Effects.
    First being that (again, seemingly random) dynamic-linked clips decide not to show up on the timeline in AE, and then seem to vanish from the program monitor in Premiere as well.
    As you can see in the screenshots attached- After Effects see's the media itself from which the clip came from, however it won't show up in the monitor.
    I'm also having issues where I'll render the Premiere project with the dynamic linked clips that DO work, and then as soon as I restart the program, those previews are gone and I have to re-render the the AE Linked comps.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 won't Render. Freezes for 1-2 minutes when I try to edit the timeline.. Help!

    Hi Guys
    I'm new to this, but in desperate need of help. Thought i'd give it a shot and let you know what my problem is!
    Basically i'm editing a dance concert which is approx 2 hours long. I'm running a late 2011 model iMac w/ i7 Quadcore and 16GB of RAM.
    Using Sony XDCAM EX 1080p footage (2 cameras). Everything was going so well until I rendered (not export) the footage overnight. It only rendered less than half of the footage and won't allow me to render anymore.  Doesn't even show the details of the amount of frames.. estimated time etc.
    Heres a screen shot -
    I checked my hard drive space and there's 150 GB left so there's more than enough for it render.
    Another problem is that any editing i do to the timeline whether it's trimming, moving, copying etc. It just lags / freezes for about 1-2 minutes (has the loading Icon) then goes back to normal.
    Before I did the rendering last night, everything was fine. I was able to edit very smoothly without any lag or freezing. First time i've encountered this. I did the same production last year using the same cameras, file format and software version and it was fine.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Jeremy

    Remove the gaps in your timeline  or fill the gaps with black clips and try again.
