Freezing on video playback.

I downloaded some torrents the other day (yes I know) and on each one about every 20 min's or so the video locks up for a slit sec then returns to normal. I find it hard to believe that 6 out of 6 torrents have the same flaw.
Anyone notice this?

HI,
iPlayer on the site says it's compatible with 10.5 or later but that doesn't necessarily mean it's compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6. Delte iPlayer and see if it makes a difference.
and if I went to play a flash video say on YouTube
Uninstall then reintsall a new copy of the plugin.
Uninstall Flash
Install Flash
Then Repair Disk Permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

    iPod freezes during video playback. Does anybody else have this problem?
    Usually freezes up about 10 minutes into a video, and then complety locks up. This usually requires 2 to 3 restarts untill it comes back working properly.

    Mine does the same. It really only happens to me when I try to navigate thru menus when video is playing. I usually have to do a forced Reset. I truly think that introducing video on the iPod was not ready for primetime as it is very sluggish, buggy and sensitive during playbabck of video. No problems with music whatsoever but I am frustrated with the very finicky video qualities of this thing.

  • IMac Freezing on Video Playback 21.5" Model

    Hi,
    I have only had my iMac for around 6 weeks and it has been in for repair for a replacement hard drive already as the other one was making a loud clicking noise.
    Before it went in, I noticed that after the iMac had been on for a few hours, if I went to play a video say in AVI format, Quicktime / VLC would freeze, and if I went to play a flash video say on YouTube or iPlayer the Internet Browser would freeze. If I restarted the computer it would work again, but then only for a few hours.
    My iMac has come back with a new hard drive, and all my stuff was on as it had been cloned, but the freezing still happened, I have wiped my drive to see if it was software based, and put everything back on clean, now it is freezing again!
    Any ideas?

  • My Mac keeps freezing in the middle of applications (most notable Safari) requiring me to shut down and restart.  It also freezes during video playback (online and using Quicktime).  Do I need to wipe and reinstall OS?  I'm thinking I have a virus........

    Please help!!  It's driving me nuts.  I've reinstalled the OS via the disc about 3 times so far, but haven't yet erased the drive (and am seriously considering doing so).  I barely have any files on my HD because I run everything off of external drives (after losing a TON of stuff after my Mac crashed in the first 3 months of having it).  I bought the computer in 2007 and was running Tiger.  I passed on Leopard but gave in for Snow Leopard because I wanted an iPhone and iPad.  When I installed SL, I had to reformat the HD and made it Journaled......it's been acting ******** ever since.

    First you don't have a virus because none exist for OS X. So you can stop worrying about hat. If you recently got a warning about a Virus and accepted downloaded some software then you fell for a Trojan. Here is an article about that and how to rid yourself of it.
    If you did not download anything like that then doing a Erase and Install would be the way to go. Here is a video that will show you exactly what to do.

  • I may have a solution for choppy video playback for iTunes Windows users

    My setup:
    - Intel NUC (i5)
    - 8gb memory
    - Intel 5000 Graphics with 1GB memory (share of system memeory)
    - iTunes 12
    - iTunes library on NAS via GigaLan
    Had problems with very choppy and freezing HD video playback in iTunes and tried everything... Every other player works fine.
    1. downgrade audio playback
    2. played with Quicktime settings
    However, I think I might have a workaround. You need to do the following,
    1. Install Quicktime 7
    2. Install iTunes
    3. Download ffdshow (Sep 2014 version) and install the codecs: pretty much leaving all do default
    4. Set audio quality in Sound and Quicktime options in control panel, and iTunes to 16bit 48k
    5. In advanced options of Quicktime in control panel, deselect "Direct 3D" & "Enable directdraw on seondary display", ONLY tick "enable directdraw accerleration"
    Well, at least this works for me for now.
    HOWEVER!!!
    @Apple! You need to address this issue once for all, I can't believe there is no solution. As a paying customer who buy quite a few of your movies in iTunes, I expect to have a harssell free experience. Consumers should NOT have to go through all these troubles trying to fix a product you have released and making billions out of.
    Reason why I switched from Android to Apple for my phones and tablets is becasue of the seamless user experience, regretfully I have to admit, this advantage is quickly going away. The amount of glitches in your recent ios updates and itunes are simply unacceptable.

    Downloading videos on 7.0.2 hasn't worked as well as everyone had hoped. I still can't get mine to work, but i do know a few people who haven't had trouble with the newer itunes.

  • Video playback momentarily freezes often

    I have a brand new Macbook Pro 13", 2.4 dual intel chip, 4 gigz ram, NVIDIA 9400M graphics card. I just freshly installed OSX 10.6.1. My preferred video software is VLC, but I have had the problem using quicktime and DIVX player as well.
    When I try opening a video file, (.avi and .mkv mostly) the video sometimes plays fine for a good 15 minutes before starting to stutter, freeze, and glitch. Sometimes it does it right away, sometime not till the middle. It is very spontaneous. Most often the screen will freeze but sound keeps going, eventually the screen unfreezes and catches up with sound. I can still use the mouse, open other programs, move and open windows, the only thing affected is video playback. I also had a 13" Macbook aluminium which has 2.0 intel, only 2 gigz ram, and same video card but never had this problem, seems to be MBP specific.
    I have made sure all my software is up to date, don't worry about caches and all that because it is a fresh new install of OSX.
    Can someone please help me with this problem? Thanks for your time

    Have you run software updates? There is one for 10.6.1
    This article is perhaps useful:
    http://news.softpedia.com/news/Mac-Pro-Owners-Get-Update-for-Freezing-ATI-Radeon -2600-XTs-80665.shtml
    It seems to be a problem with the firmware, and most users have replaced the graphics card to "fix" the issue.

  • Youtube video playback freeze

    Hi,
    I've been experiencing a lot video playback freezing, I've noticed it happens on youtube. It is not my internet connection, the video freeze even it's already been downloaded. It happens with all video resolution from 360P to Full HD, I've tried all majors Internet browser: Firefox, Safari, Chrome.
    I have Leopard, a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM.
    A 250GB HD with (at least) 10GB of free space.
    It shouldn't freeze for so low quality videos.
    Any help?
    Cheers,
    -- rafael

    Do you have powered speakers or headphones plugged in?
    If so, try unplugging them and seeing if it will play the video.
    I started having this problem right in the middle of watching a video and it would freeze playback every time I plugged in my speakers. Internet searching yielded no results, but an OS software update from 10.6.2 to 10.6.4 fixed my problem. You say you have Leopard, so I am not sure if a software update is available for you, but check under the apple menu > Software Update. If there is an update related to the operating system, install that. It worked for me!

  • 2014.0.1 Update freezes video playback

    Since downloading the 2014.0.1 update, my video playback will work for about 30 seconds and then will consistently freeze the frame right before moving onto the next clip. The audio continues to play from the next clip while the frozen frame is on screen.
    Yesterday an Adobe helpdesk team member did the following:
    -upped the ram available to premiere to 13gb instead of 11
    -changed my Renderer to: Mercury Playback Engine GPU Accelerator (OpenCL) instead of Mercury Playback Software only
    However, this has not stopped the problem from happening.
    Changing the resolution in the playback monitor from Full, to 1/2, or 1/4 does not fix the problem either.
    Is anyone else having this problem?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Same, thought for sure the latest Pr update was going to fix it. Have had to resort to GPU Software mode which is spotty at best, but seems to work the longest in that setting before freezing. Now wasting time rendering, its like being back in FC7 with rending. What a waste of money and time. Will keep checking back to see if anyone has a figured this out. FYI: My MacPro Laptop 2013 with Nvidia graphics card with 16Gs memory has no problems with any of this, but it kind of defeats the purpose, since I thought I was upgrading to a faster better more powerful system.

  • Video Playback Pauses, freezes on laptop

    My Video playback (iTunes 6.0.5- G4 Laptop 15" titanium) constantly pauses and freezes at key points during playback. It will make it approx. half way through a show, then start jumping and freezing. Any Suggestions?
    Thanks for any help

    It's pretty annoying. 1/2 a show will play fine then all at once the pauses and spinning wheel is so bad that you can't watch the rest of the movie.
    No answers or clues as of yet. I guess no one else has the problem.

    Ok since discussions have been down all day since I posted, I don't think my post made it on the board, so here it is again:

  • ITunes 9.0.2 video playback freezes temporarily at 9 second pointiTunes 9.0

    iTunes 9.0.2 video playback freezes temporarily at the 9 second point. Playback resumes at around the 12 second point. The sound also pauses with the video. I've tried playing the same videos in Quicktime and they play fine. How can I fix this?

    I have the same issue! Were you able to slove it? if so, how?

  • DVD Player freezes video playback, but audio continues

    Whenever I insert a DVD into my Macbook Pro, DVD Player starts playing the DVD's audio, but the video playback will only run if I have my mouse positioned at the bottom of the screen. If the mouse is moved anywhere toward the middle of the video, it freezes on the image while audio playback continues. This has happened with multiple DVDs and all run fine on any other player (VLC, etc).

    I have the same issue fairly regularly with DVDs when played back using the Apple DVD Player app.  The same DVDs work fine with VLC.
    While rebooting helps, it doesn't actually fix anything.  The same goes for resetting PRAM and other stuff.  The problem persists, albeit intermittently.  I've rebooted and have had a DVD exhibit the same exact problems right away.  And then I try VLC and it runs fine.
    There are three variables that I can point to...
    Apple DVD Player application... as noted above, the issue does not occur at all with VLC
    Memory... it's possible that the Apple DVD Player app hits on a bad stretch of memory, it causes this kind of problem.  Still this points to the application as the issue does not occur in other playback apps.
    Video Card...  on my macbook pro it's the NVIDIA 320M.  Again, the playback is fine in other playback apps, so this still points back to the Apple DVD Player app, but it's possible that it has issues with the video card
    That's all I can think of off the top of my head.  I hope Apple will fix the problem, and I'm OK with using VLC until it gets fixed, but there is at least one feature of Apple's DVD Player app that I love...  it remembers exactly where I was at even if I take the DVD out to play something else.  VLC Player does not appear to have that functionality (at least not that I've found thus far).

  • Video playback freezes Xorg nvidia-340xx (340.46-4)

    Hi all,
    I recently updated by MacBook Pro (4,1) to the new legacy nvidia drivers because 343 doesn't support the integrated 8600M. I'm currently running 3.17.1-1, but I also had the problem on 3.16.4-1.
    When I'm watching video in VLC X will freeze. The mouse pointer still works, but I can't click on anything, and everything besides the cursor stops updating. The only solution is to switch to tty and restart the login manager (slim, in my case). If you switch to tty and then back to X, the screen is black except for the cursor.
    I'm running Enlightenment without compiz, using opengl as the render engine.
    dmesg doesn't have anything from the kernel or the module about errors, oops, crashes, whatever. /var/log/Xorg.0.log also has nothing to indicate that something is happening.
    I've tried to follow the instructions on NVidia's website to generate verbose VDPAU logs, but it would appear that doesn't work with VLC. I installed mplayer to try and get it to crash, but when I specify vdpau as the video output module there is no video displayed, so I'm guessing NVidia's instructions (which date from 2012) are outdated and no longer apply. Interestingly watching videos in Chrome (mp4 or webm) doesn't seem to crash X.
    Anyone else having issues with video playback on the new 340xx drivers? This is really, really annoying, and I'm going to have to downgrade or switch to nouveau if the situation doesn't improve. Having X hard lock on me while watching video is not something I can live with.

    The problem appears to be a memory leak in the NVidia driver. nvidia-settings shows that 99% of dedicated VRAM is used (254 of 256MB) while only running a few 2D applications. Disabling opengl rendering in enlightenment helps somewhat (83% VRAM used) but it's still a major regression from previous driver versions (<340.46) where the average used VRAM was ~40% while running productivity applications.
    Has anyone else had issues with older GPUs an VRAM management on the 340.46 release?

  • Video playback pauses/freezes when I move my T500... also keeps dropping wireless connection...

    Video playback in Windows Media, Quicktime and in Firefox (youtube, etc.) pauses when I physically move my laptop. I've never had this happen on any other laptop. Any suggestions?
    Another annoying problem is that it drops the wireless connection in my home every couple of minutes. This doesn't happen with any of the other 3 laptops I'm running so it's not my ISP or router.
    Thanks for any help!

    The ThinkPad Active Protection System (APS) will protect the Hard Drive when you move your ThinkPad, and this probably causing the behaviour you are observing.  There are options for disabling APS for particular purposes, so you should have a look in the APS options... look in the ThinkVantage folder on your Start menu.
    Regarding your WiFi issues, you need to make sure that all the relevant power managment settings for WiFi are set to Maximum Performance (or similar).  This has been covered in numerous messages here already. so a few minutes with the serach function should provide you with more details.

  • Multiple video playback issues

    Hi All,
    I would dearly appreciaty any light anyone could shed on this issue - I have run into a couple of Flash bugs that have stumped me for quite a while, and my deadline is aproaching fast.
    Essentially, I would like to play back 3 reasonably high res videos (On2 VP6-S) simultaneously in one Flash App (using flash.video, netstream and netconnect - code only). Unfortunately, when I do this, the video playback drops a lot of frames, however, CPU usage does not go much above 50% - spread over both cores. I'm using a Core2Duo. If I play the same 3 videos simultaneously in 3 separate flash apps (FP10), they play much better (and use close to 100% CPU). I even tried creating it as an AIR app with 3 separate windows (NativeWindow), but that made little difference. I have lodged this as a bug via the Flash Bug Reporting System (http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-2341).
    And yes, I do need to be doing something as crazy as this - it is for a pretty cool kiosk app, so I know what hardware will be used (and it has a good Graphics Card).
    One promising workaround appeared to be playing back a single NetStream in multiple Video instances, as it is NetStream that does the decoding, so I could decode once and present it in 3 places. Two of my video objects are actually the same flv (on different monitors), so there would be a 33% saving right there. If necessary, I could encode both flvs into a single 1920x1200 flv (I've checked - it would play back ok) and then use video.mask to show the relevant bits.
    However, another bug has been reported at http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-920 saying this does not work - Video in the object that last called attachNetStream(ns) will play, all others will freeze. They do mention a workaround that gets both videos to play - reset the size of freezed videos on ENTER_FRAME event. However, I cannot get this workaround to work - my first video is empty (not even frozen).
    So there are a couple of things I would love any feedback on. Firstly, if anyone has insights on how I could get this to work. Secondly, if anyone could try the "multiple videos on one netStream with workaround" code below (simply copy, paste and point to a relevant flv) and let me know if it works and the versions of software they used, I'd be very thankful.
    ---------------Code Begins-------------
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.media.Video;
    import flash.net.NetConnection;
    import flash.net.NetStream;
    showRedrawRegions(true); // both the placeholders and the entire window redraws every frame.
    // When only video1 is attached, only video1's region is redrawing
    // When both videos are attached, both video's regions are redrawing, BUT video1 is empty.
    trace ("Capabilities.version = " + Capabilities.version); // = WIN 10,0,22,91 // in Flash CS4 10.0.2
    //var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection( null ); // Got Eror: 1137: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected no more than 0.
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect(null);
    // Connect nc here ...? Unnecessary in this case?
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    ns.client = new Object(); // Simplest way to deal with cuePoints and metaData by doing nothing. For more, see http://blogs.adobe.com/pdehaan/2006/07/playing_back_flvs_with_actions_1.html
    var stream:String = "test.flv";
    var video1:Video = new Video(); // Defaults to size of 320x240
    var video2:Video = new Video(); // Defaults to size of 320x240
    video2.x = 320;
    addChild(video1);
    addChild(video2);
    ns.play(stream);
    video1.attachNetStream(ns);
    video2.attachNetStream(ns);
    // PROBLEM: Video in the object that last called attachNetStream(ns) will play, all others will freeze.
    // See WORKAROUND below for solution:
    //WORKAROUND to stop the first split stream from freezing:
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, onEnterFrame);
    function onEnterFrame(e:Event){
    video1.width = 320;
    video1.height = 240;
    trace ("video1.videoWidth = " + video1.videoWidth);
    trace ("video2.videoWidth = " + video2.videoWidth);
    // When only video1 is attached, video1.videoWidth = 1920, video2.videoWidth = 0
    // When both videos are attached, video1.videoWidth = 0, video2.videoWidth = 1920
    ---------------Code Ends-------------
    Letting me know what exact versions of the following software was used would help a lot:
    - Windows/OS (e.g. XP SP3).
    - App code was written in. (e.g. Flash CS4 IDE 10.0.2, Flash Develop 3.0.1).
    - App code was compiled in. (e.g. Flash CS4 IDE 10.0.2, Flex SDK 3.4.0.6955).
    - Type and Version of Flash Player used (e.g. Standalone Debug Flash Player v10,0,22,91).
    The versions I used are listed above.
    Lastly, for what it is work, I found three interesting/informative results, but they didn't help me:
    - When only video1 is attached, video1.videoWidth = 1920, video2.videoWidth = 0
      When both videos are attached, video1.videoWidth = 0, video2.videoWidth = 1920
    - When only video1 is attached, only video1's region is redrawing
      When both videos are attached, both video's regions are redrawing, BUT video1 is empty.
    - var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection( null ); // Got Eror: 1137: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected no more than 0.
      So I had to change it to:
        var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
        nc.connect(null);
      Does this mean my NetConnection class is different and maybe incompatible with this workaround?
    Many, many thanks,

    How to view/hear pretty much everything:
    Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
    Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
    In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
    In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    The world should now be your oyster!
    You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
