Freezing regularly

My Mac mini is freezing on a regular basis.  I purchased this new but rarewly used it.  When I wnet to start it up, no problem.  But as I attempted to copy a file - it forze.  It continued to do this until I left it on continuously for a couple of days.  Then it seemed to be pretty stable.  It of course is no longer covered by warranty so I am on my own here. My thought is that the battery is in bad shape and crashes the system when it is not warm.. If I leave the machine off for a few days, it freezes.  When I leave ti on, it is opretty stable.  Is there anything else that might be causing this?  If not, is it pretty easy to get in there and change out the CR 2032 battery?
Thanks.

Hi - it just crashed - and it was very warm.  I'm including the Apple report and two console logs: one from the most recent crash and one from a couple of days ago.
Here is the Apple Report:

  • HT204370 my screen is freezing regularly when I try to watch a movie I downloaded earlier from itunes to my laptop

I downloaded a movie earlier today from itunes to my laptop but the movie and screen are freezing regularly, then catching up with itself, only for it to happen again 20 secs later.  I've checked with my broadband provider and they advise that my speed is 17mps.  Help!!

I would start by turning home sharing off in iTunes and then turning it back on.  Next I would stop sharing on the apple TV and share again.
Make sure the mac that hosts iTunes is awake when the apple TV tries to connect.

  • My MacBook Air is freezing regularly

My wife's MacBook Air is freezing regularly. I reinstalled Mavericks from the Restore (cmd R).  I first erased the hard disk in Disk Utility and then reinstalled Mavericks. Then I restored from a Time Machine backup.  It was okay for about a week or two, but then it began freezing a lot, about 2-3 times a day. My wife has to hold down the power button for several seconds and restart and then get back to work.  It's a mid 2011 model with 4 GB of RAM, 256 GB HD and 1.8GHz.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful.

  • Mac mini freezes regularly - log file enclosed - what do I need to do?

    Hi,
My mini crashes every couple of days - and has to be rebooted. I've been updating the OS and software regularly but it continues to freeze and has to be rebooted each time. I'm enclosing a typical log file from a crash. Any help / insight about what to do to fix this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Jay

I had already tried that one and got this...
below is screen shot of what is on the new mac mini
and what is on the external drive now connected to the new mac mini..
There are no media files on the mac mini just the library files and on external just media files..
Do I need to copy anything over from the old mac mini ? xml files ? .. the itunes folder on old mini is about 840mb in size which looks to have artwork ect ? .. I am fairly computer literate, but this one has me stumped.. ?
    thanks for help

  • Powerbook freezes regularly with no apps open

I'm having some major freezing issues with my powerbook G4. It's a 1.67 processor with 1.5 gigs of ram. I regularly use disk utility, disk warrior as well as onyx to keep my hard drive clean. I get regular freezes, not just applications stalling out but system wide freezes so I can use my mouse or force quit any applications. My only resolve is to manually shut down and reboot my cpu.
Has anyone had similar problems and/or find any solutions? Could this just be a heat issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Matt Grimm

i try to keep my PB on a coolpad at all times if it over heats the processor slows down noticeably.

  • Genius Needed! System Freezing regularly aft. Logic 8 install-Help Please!

    Hi All --
Not sure if anyone can help --- my P.B. has been crashing/freezing and acting strangely since installing the new Logic 8. I think its something system related though -- I'm trying to troubleshoot this myself, but wondered if anyone may have any tips?! (I have included the last few console crash logs below)
    1. seems there's a Logic 8 / internet thing going on - possibly to crosscheck serial numbers, etc...
    2. my logic board was just replaced at an apple service centre. could the new (non) i.d. status be affecting
some kind of server link? (lots of .local, localhost kernel, network & host name text coming up)

    3. Dashboard widgets are also taking awhile to load.
    4. I have trashed login prefs and other related items from User and System libraries.
    5. I have run & re-run Diskwarrior and Disk Utilites / Repaired Prefs / Repaired Disk, etc....
    Below is the console System crash report (" ==== " indicate crashes);

Hi, see if Safe Boot works...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Odi freezes regularly.

I am running Oracle Data Integrator 11g (11.1.1.3.0_generic_100623.1635) on Windows XP Pro (SP3) / Java SE 1.6.0_24.
Repository is on Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0) database.
It's a closed environment that has no access out to Internet.
I am experiencing that ODI hangs on regularly. It just stops responding. The window freeze and I can see that odi process consumes about 50% of CPU. It can stand forever this way and the only solution I have is to kill the process and start over again.
Is someone here experiences similar things before? Any suggestions?

I have not faced this freezing issue , but had 1 performance issue which might be use full to you .
Over time the ODI logs become huge in size and it was impacting the ODI GUI a lot.
Then we performed a "purge logs" which was helpful .
It is recommended that you regularly use OdiExportLog (introduced in 10.1.3.4) to backup your logs to a zip file and then OdiPurgeLog to remove them from the repository.
These tool needs to be executed inside an ODI package .
    Aslo refer

May be your issue is different one , but still wanted to share my experience .
    thanks,

  • My N82 screen freeze regularly

    Please advise me..
I have just bought N82 2 weeks ago, since then my N82 gets screen freeze every 1 or 2 days and it happens regularly, especially when the screen gets rotated. However even the screen freeze (you can only see backgound theme, but I still can press the on/off button, and the menu come out so so I can select switch off.
This morning, I tried to switch off my handy alarm, and the screen freeze again.
This afternoon, I try to run Garmin, and I accidently rotate the screen and the screen freeze again.

My phone is N82 black, so it already comes with V20.
My friend told me because I installed Garmin GPS. Is it true?
ahh yes, there were reports about the Garmin problem like the copy/paste not working in the text mode... there was one solution to that, but is not a permanent solution, and garmin admitted they were trying to fix that, you might want to try it as well, it might help you...
Garmin Solution from hofo, by Sid (edit by me)
    1. Go to http://www.smartphoneware.com/taskm...on-download.php
2.Download and install BEST TASKMAN S60 V3 to your N82.
    3. Now Launch the application in phone
    4.go to Options> View > Advanced > Processes >
5.You will see a list of running "3rd party" processes,
6.Scroll to find "TSRAutostart.exe" and highlight it > now press options and Terminate process.
    7. Voila!
Also Note: (the process trsautostart is a garmin xt process, everytime you open garmin xt, it activates,, so you have to close it using this methodology with BEST TASK MAN APP each time you use garmin xt on your n82)

  • Added SSD but now it freezes regularly

    Hi,
I've added the SSD and moved the HDD to the optical bay.  All appears to have gone well, it is definitely quick, but it freezes pretty regularly.  I did it this afternoon and it has frozen about 6 times, each time requiring a reboot.
The approach I took was to lone the HDD to the SSD after installing and as I say, it seems to have worked other than the freezing.
    Anyone experienced this?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    - First reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - If still problem,  connect the iPod to your computer. If iTunes sees the iPod restore the iPod via iTunes.
    - If iPod not shown in iTunes, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow it to show in iTunes so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
If it still cylce one and off, disconnect the iPod and let the battery fully drain. Then charge and try again.

  • Imac CPU Usage insane, Freezing regularly, is the end nigh for my mac?

Hi, i wonder if anyone can help?
My imac is not happy at all, it is freezing all the time even when opening the dock and changing font sizes etc! It can't cope with having more than 2 applications open at once.
When i look in activity monitor, it is always pushed to as near 100% as possible, mostly only for one application such as today Safari is taking 92% CPU and the fans are whirring away like mad.
I think my computer may be dying, i'm not sure bit i want to try and prolong its life until i can afford another.
I have a full backup on external just in case.
Have run tech tool pro and disk utility and all looks fine - though keep getting told there is an 'allocation overlap' by tech tool pro.
Any suggestions would be so helpful,
    Look forward to your responses

Since you have a full backup, performing an Archive and Install should clear the problem up. If you have Disk Warrior, try to rebuild your Directory before the A&I. However, TTP does give false readings, and since DU says thinks are OK, I would try t DW rebuild first. If you don't have DW, just do the A&I.

  • Adobe Media Encoder - Encoding Very Unreliable and Freezes regularly

    Hello All
Would really appreciate this being addressed very soon as it is having a huge negative effect on our workflow currently.
Basically we have 4 films all no more than 30mins in length that we need to encoded for BluRay and DVD having edited them in Premiere Pro CC. We open AME and load up the PP sequences we need to encode (they are all the 4 films from the same project just different sequences). The sequences load and we set destinations for the encoded files and check the formats that we are encoding too etc and then hit start/go and the encoding starts. However, it simply takes AGES to even begin encoding and sometimes it doesn't even start it just sits there like a lemon seemingly doing nothing at all! It has not frozen as I can access menus etc but it is just looking like it is about to do something but it either takes about 15-20mins for something to start happening, then it encodes fine (until it reaches the next sequence then AME usually becomes unresponsive and I have to Force Quit!)
Why is it freezing like this and why is it talking so long to begin the encodes?
We have kept the 'Enable native Premiere Pro sequence import' checked in the Preferences as this has been working okay for single encodes to the web and I really like the speed it brings the projects into AME at. I do not want to have to uncheck this option. If it is a bug that is causing the problem meaning we have to work around it by diabling this handy feature then Adobe should be busting their tail to bring out a fix for this. Doing without a feature is not a solution!
Also, we have GPU CUDA acceleration on in the Renderer again this should be on in my opinion and I am not happy with changing to 'Software Only' as a resolution. This will not do!
With these four films we have two different encoding formats happening at the same time often when the problem happens (one to BluRay and one to DVD) however it is now also happening with just DVD encodes so I am highly frustrated as I have deadlines and not meeting them as finding it nearly impossible to get anything out of AME in a resonable and timley manner. THIS NEEDS URGENT ATTENTION ADOBE! When CC was introduced I am pretty sure we were promised faster routes to upgrades and fixes to issues.
I'd really appreciate either some assistance to the problem or a confirmation of when the next update is coming that will resolve the problem. Otherwise, FCPX and Compressor is looking like a good investment and I'll jack in my CC subscription!
    Many thanks

So I tried again without unchecking the box and it worked......after 50 minutes of idling following me hitting the 'go/play' button in AME.
Once the encoding began it worked great. Why did it take so damn long to start the encode?
    Weird!
Incidentally, I did try unchecking the box and AME crashed/became unresponsive on starting the encode which is why I tried again with the above method. Is it just that is was a long sequence? It was approx. 25 mins for peoples information.
    Cheers

  • IMac G5 freezes regularly under leopard

Hey. I have a 17' imac G5 2GHz. After installing Leopard a few weeks ago my iMac has started freezing randomly. The entire system locks up, mouse doesn't move, keyboard does nothing, display freezes. If iTunes is playing music it will loop half a second of audio continuously. After a few minutes the fans go insane. The only way out is to hold down the power button to turn it off.
I have reset the PRAM and SMU, repaired permissions, run disk first aid, and tried unplugging USB peripherals.
I have not been able to isolate a cause for the freeze, it seems to just happen randomly, usually about once a day. Under Tiger my imac never did this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You could try to set up another admin user for testing to see if the problem is with the OS, your user or a startup program that's not compatible with Leopard.
If the test user doesn't have any problems, then you remove startup programs, if the test user still has problems you can do an archive and install from the boot DVD. It will replace your OS, but leave your user files and settings alone.
If you do the archive and install, you update to the latest version of Leopard and use Disk Utility to repair your permissions.

  • Start up slow, freezes regularly

My MacBook Pro (13inch, late 2011) is taking a very long time to start up (up to ten minutes), and then it is freezing every few minutes, making it very difficult to do anything. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I would be so grateful for help with this!

    freyafromvic,
there are a few possible causes. Try resetting your MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller first, since that’s easiest to do: does that make any difference?

  • IMac 2011 freezes regularly but no solution?

    Hi,
My friend has a 2011 iMac, running Snow Leopard (latest version). Recently, he told me that his iMac would freeze, either while surfing the net, downloading, Facebook, or just using applications. This freezing would force him to shut down and restart, where it sometimes freezes again about an hour later. During these freezes, the mouse becomes inactive. Sometimes when it falls asleep, it also freezes on wake, so he has to shut it down and restart.
I suggest he take it in to the Apple Store for a Genius appointment. The Genius conducted what sounds like an extreme stress test and couldn't recreate the error. Running multiple Youtube videos, and apparently UNIX script in the background that sounds like it was testing the CPU. Despite all this stress testing and the Genius' Apple Hardware Test, everything seemed OK. His only suggestion was to "turn it off" more frequently. The only other suggestion was a clean install of Snow Leopard (or other).
Since then, the freezing continues. My friend has even run maintenace programs like Cocktail, etc, and run several SMART diagnostics to ensure the hard drive is OK. Still, I guess it could be the hard drive.
    Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your help, baltwo. I've asked my friends to keep the logs. Here are two that he gave me.

  • Opteron errata 131 - machine freezes regularly

    Hello,
i got a new Dual-DC-Opteron (270) machine using a Tyan Thunder K8SR (S2881) with 4 GB RAM, a scsi boot disk and 4 SATA disks running as a Raid 10 under Solaris VolumeManager.
The machine freezes sometimes when i start to copy files to it via NFS. It will run for a while then "freeze". Could that be an issue of the Opteron errata 131 ? AMD states that this should only happen very seldom - but i experienced the problem also trying to use SolarisExpress (build28) with ZFS. As soon as i started to copy files to the disk via NFS & Samba it frooze. Therefore i
Before i buy a new board with the Errata 131 fix in the bios i would like to know if that Errata is a showstopper for productive use!
Everytime the system frooze i was active in the X-Desktop - i turned it off for now and make another test on that issue. But unlike the other X-Freeze cases my system became totally unresponsive - even pings/telnets were no longer possible.

Unfortunately I come with bad news. I have the exact same problem on the exact same computer and I have been researching this for a long time. What I found is that there is a unique issue with the graphic card that came with some models of the Macbook Pro on 2006-07 that cause them to overheat, get funny lines on the screen, makes the screen go blank, get choppy sound quality and disturded sounds on video (such as on Youtube). Their solution? Replace the motherboard. Apple issued an official programs to fix MBP with these graphic cards but we only had 2 to 4 years from the time of purchase to get it fix. When I took it to Apple thy confirmed what I'm telling you now but told me I was 3 months passed the 4 years I had. Since I just recently found this out, i guess i missed out. They didn't do much to get the word our to customers about this issue, understandable, since this doesn't help their image. Apple blamed Envidia for supplying faulty graphic card, but Apple was the one that sold us the defected product under a false promise. Yes, they set up that program to fix it, but then they don't do well at getting the word out and then they set a time limit for us to bring in the product. It shouldn't matter when we bring the product in, if it's faulty due to manufacturers lack of testing.
Notice how "com.apple.kext.ATI1600Controller" is on your panic report. Research issues relating that graphics card and you'll find your answers.

Sorry i couldn't give you a solution but at least it will save all the headaches of not knowing way your MBP has become so problematic.
    Cheers!
