Freezing scenes in transition

Frames are freezing during transition from one scene to another. It freezes for several scenes then starts again. Any advice on how to fix

iMovie builds it's cache files very quickly, so one of the first troubleshooting steps I would advise, is quitting iMovie, and restarting the computer.   They refreshes your computer cache files, as well as iMovie cache files. If the issue persists, do the following:
- quit iMovie
- click finder in the dock, so the word finder appears beside the apple. Also note in this top menue, is the word "Go", click the go and then hold down your option key on your keyboard. This will make a "library" appear under your home.   Select the library, then go to your preferences folder.
There, look for the following files, and drag them out to your desktop:
     - com.apple.iApps.plist
     - com.apple.iMovieAPP.plist
Go back one screen by clicking the backward arrow and select the "Caches folder", or go back to "Go" hold down your option key on your keyboard, and select the library, the folder entited "Caches"
There, look for the following files, and drag them out to your desktop:
     - com.apple.iMovieAPP
Launch iMovie and test it

Elements 10 Slide show is freezing up during transition of last image.

I am trying to make a slide show to put on a web page. The slide show runs until it is transitioning the last image and then freezes for a couple seconds and then jumps to the first image and is done. I have changed the file sizes, the number of images used and no matter what, it still won't continue into the last image. I have Windows 8...if that matters.

Good question...so I tried opening it with other programs to see what would happen! I saved the file onto my desk top and can play it in Real Player, Elements, Movie Maker and Windows Media Player. So, that is telling me it must be a yahoo problem?? Is there a way in Elements to make it loop? That is what I am trying to do on my web site. I just want the pictures to continuously play.
a. the wmv video created in the slideshow edit and outputted Save As A File Movie (.wmv)? If so, what did you set as the Slide Size...Web Size or other?   Web size

How are you uploading this .wmv file to your web page?
I have Yahoo Sitebuilder. In that program, all I do is "insert" a video.   It takes several types of files...including the .wmv file.

IMovie video freezes during playback; transitions not working

I'm nearing the end of making a video in iMovie. I have several clips, transitions, and music added. On some spots, the video playback stops, while the music continues; one or two clips later the video picks up again. I've deleted that section of video and re-inserted a similar clip only to have the same problem. Additionally, the transition into that particular clip doesn't work. When i play the raw video clip, it works just fine. I don't understand. Someone have a clue what's going on?

You might be able to narrow down which item is causing the problem and deleting it. First create a duplicate project:
Click the Project Library button and highlight the name of your project by click on it just once so that it will be colored in blue.
Go to File Menu > Duplicate Project, iMovie will create a duplicate with a number added to the end of the name
Open the Duplicate project and try deleting a picture, or transition or video clip where the video freezes or even just before the point where it freezes.
Playback the movie and see if it reacts differently.
Just try one thing at time and you might discover it's one item in the Project timeline that's causing the problem. Once you find the source of the problem, you can try replacing it or just leave it out until you finish the project and export it. Sometimes it's difficult to figure out how something got corrupted and subsequently how to ressurect it.

HD Freezes right before Transitions

hello,
I am editing 1280x720 HD.mov files and it seems right at end and beginning of transitions{cuts, dissolves, anything} the footage freezes for a half a second. It is crazy and very frustrating! I am editing on a FCP Studio2 ,MBP w/4 gigs ram. The sequence settings seem correct yet what is causing this? I am really new at HD editing and never had this problem w/SD. Is it the .mov files or is there a thing I need to correct?

Click on one of the media files. Hit Apple-I. Under MORE INFO, it will tell you the codec. If it is really MPEG 4, like the .mp4 suggests, well then you are trying to edit footage that has been compressed into a web delivery codec...not well suited for editing. Because of this, issues may arise, like you are experiencing. You should be working with a codec that FCP supports as an editing codec...everything in the EASY SETUPS are editing codecs. for 1280x720, DVCPRO HD would be a choice codec....although that format is 960x720 anamorphic, not actual 1280x720.
How were these files produced?

External monitor--Freeze during playback, transition issues

I am utilizing an external monitor for playback. Every now and then the video freezes and audio continues. Also, even after performing a render all option, cross dissolves skip periodically during viewing referenced movie. When I compress the movie, I have no problems.

AFAIK, (I came in around FCP3) It has always been recommended that the operation of the FCP system is divided amoung at least two disks. Each version of FCP is placing higher and higher demands on the system. That you have gotten away with this for so long is truly amazing. You must live right!
There is really nothing all that new and innovative about the iMac with regards to video editing. In fact, it is a poor platform. It does not allow the installation of a second internal SATA drive, it has no expansion slots to add either a second Firewire or SATA bus, you can not upgrade the video card and so on.
Recommended distribution of the FCP elements over two disks -
Drive 1: OSX, FCP application files, FCP Project file (no media files), thumbnail and waveform cache.
Drive 2: capture scratch, autosave vault, audio + video renders +all other media files
With a good external firewire 400/800 drive (not usb), you can get multiple realtime streams.
And no, partitioning the internal drive does nothing good for you. the same heads have to scan over an even wider area after you partition. The effect can be to decrease read/write speed.

Audio freezes during photos transitions

Hello,
after burning DVD, when playing the disc on a regular dvd player, the music jumps during the photos transitions in the diaporama. When playing the disc on the macbook, everything is fine. My wish is to send the disc to other people so they can watch that DVD... Is there a way to get it to work or should I just eliminate the transition?

Sorry, but that's the way it works. Slides in a slideshow are actually 'chapters' and some DVD players drop the audio on chapter changes.
The ONLY way to get continuous audio during a slideshow for all DVD players is to create your slideshow with audio as a movie in iPhoto or iMovie.

Question about transitions

I'm wondering: is it possible to have a transition, say an Overlap, at a different point than in between two scenes?
I have two scenes, 1 and 2. In 1, a man turns, and in 2 you see him walking away. I'd like to have the Overlap take place during the turn -- because right now the transition is at the end of the scene, and as the clip freezes there, the man isn't moving anymore during the Overlap. He's just frozen there as 2 'fades in'. So say scene 1 takes 10 seconds, and the overlap is at 0:10 now: I'd like to have it start at about 0:08. Just a tad earlier.
I hope I'm making myself clear. If not, I'll try to rephrase the question.

No.
But you can split a clip anywhere (Command-T) and use a transition between the parts, if that is what you want.
An Overlap is a bit special since it freezes the last frame of clip A and merges with clip B. If you don't want the freeze, chose another transition.

Goto a specific frame on a scene

Hello everybody
I was wondering: I know that we can access a frame by its
name. For example: gotoAndPlay("Transition"). Can I have, in two
different scenes, two Transition frames and access them by
something like <gotoAndPlay("Scene1.Transition")> or an
another similar command or do they need to have a unique name?

Yes you can move between scenes to specific frames but the
code for it depends on which version of actionscript you are using.
If you look at the gotoAndPlay Flash documentation for the version
of AS you are using, it will define what you need to use where, and
will likely provide examples.

VC3 Video Freezes During Video Effects

I can use the same video effect numerious times in the same project, but sometimes during playback (review and publish) the "A" video will freeze when the transition starts, then after the effect is over video "B" plays normally.
I've tried different effects, deleted the action and tried recreating it but everytime the same action freezes no matter what effect is selected.

Have you checked to see if there's an updated driver for your webcam from Asus?
Do the specs on your built in webcam say it's supposed to do HD?
Any chance you may have or be able to borrow an external USB webcam to plug in to a USB port and try as a troubleshooting step?
The symptoms you're experiencing seem strange and I'm trying to come up with a way to pin down where the problem actually lies.

IPad mini home screen freeze problem

I have a problem with my ipad mini. Sometimes when I close my apps with the four-finger gesture it just freezes during the transition and doesn't respond completely, even when I press and hold the power to turn off. But the home button works for Siri but she doesn't do much, she can't open apps or turn my ipad off. I can also take screen shots but my screen remains frozen on that transition. It eventually runs bettery flat and turns off automatically and when I charge it and switch it on, it works normally. It's happened about 3 times now and I'm not sure if its a hardware or software problem. I'm on iOS 7.0.4

Getting the best possible output video quality in Premiere 8.0

Here is my PC information:
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel Quad Core Q6600 @2.40 Ghz
4.0 GB of Ram
My Camera information:
Kodak Playsport HD
Records videos in HD 720P @ 60 FPS
Saves movies in .MOV format, 1280 x 720 resolution, and H.264 codec
Now I am playing around with the settings but when I edit movies in Premiere Elements and then save it I always lose a lot of quality. I'm not really interested in sharing the videos on the web, I'm just looking for the best possible quality (as close to how it looks in its original form) for viewing on my home computer. Can anybody help me out with decent export settings that will give me the best overall quality?

Hello Bill and thank you for your respone, I appreciate it. I've managed to get the overall quality of the movie a lot better with using different presets at new project. I am now using the preset NTSC-HDV-HDV720p 30 and that seems to be working a lot better. I also save the final movies as a Quicktime file, with a Local Area Network (LAN) and then I go to advanced and bring up the quality to 100, change it to 1280x720, bring the frame rate up to 60, and set the bitrate at 8000.
I am now having a different problem however. It seems that when I add a music to the background the song messes up frequently. What I mean is that when I'm watching the movie I created the video will be playing normally and then at random times the song will skip or get choppy. Then on top of that, with certain transitions between scenes the transition won't even work, it will just freeze for a bit and then skip to the next scene (On a side note, I leave the "Field Type" as "Progressive" and the "Aspect" as "Square Pixels [1.0] simply because I'm not sure what those are for).

DVD-9 Authoring

I finally have a project that warrants DVD-9 authoring. I have never authored a DVD-9 only 5's. I am using Encore 1.5 and have a Sony 830A dual layer burner. The DVD will have a main menu with a Play Movie, Scene Selection, Trailer and Bonus Features. The main movie is about 95 min and then of course all the other movies are a shorter length. I have several questions.
1) After it is contructed in Encore and I select Make DVD Disc - what should I expect to happen? Will the DVD burn normal to a DVD 9 disc or will there be a break in which I have to do something?
2) Could this project be written to a DVD-9 disc or does it require a DLT?
3) Will I encounter any errors or disc pasuign when it is played on consumer DVD players?
Anything info you can extend to me would be appreciated. I am totally new to the DVD-9 world.

To answer your questions first.
1 - You must set a Layer Break. Written discs (and usually replicated discs) use a method known as OTP Mastering (Opposite Track Path). This is basically a way of telling the system how to create the disc, and requires Layer 0 to be bigger than Layer 1 as when the player gets to the end of Layer 0, after going from the inner part of the disc towards the outer part it will refocus onto Layer 1, and the read head will then travel back in the opposite direction to the inner of the disc.
This break point must fall between timelines for it to be seamless (Un-noticeable to the viewer) - failure to follow this guideline will result in a momentary freeze at the transition point. Whilst this is not out of spec, it is obviously undesirable. An alternative place for a layer break is at a convenient point in the main timeline - such as a blackout, or an obvious scene change. There must be a chapter marker at the required point.
2 - Depends on the intentions. If you want this to be replicated, use DLT tapes - one for each layer (If you want to use any form of Copy Protection, DLT use is mandatory as Encore is incapable of outputting a DDP image or a CMF image).
You can - if you really, really must, use a DVD-R DL disc (some factories will accept DVD+R DL, but this is NOT recommended as DVD+R is not a valid DVD-Forum approved format, and uses a completely different Layer Break system compared to DVD-R DL, which is an approved format. Most peoples issues with Layer Breaks are related to this fact. DVD+R DL will *always* split the content in half unless you over-ride this behaviour.
Another factor is reduced reflectivity is bad in all written media, but in DL media it is far, far worse. You should never use DL media asa production master at all.

Always ask for a test mould as well. Much better to head off any issues before tens of thousands of discs are replicated.
3 - Almost certainly YES - unless you see point one above, and set the break at a point
i between timelines.
In addition, you have other issues. Players are not required to play written discs at all. Most will play single layer discs, some -R and others +R, yet more will play both. Playback of a dingle layer +R disc is no guarantee the player will read a DL disc though. I have players here that will read a DVD+R but not a DVD+R DL - Layer 1 is inaccessible on these players.
Transition pauses are very common too - so unless you don't mind a pause, make absolutely certain you get the disc layout correct in the first place.
Final note.
If DVD9 is not something you are doing already - get someone else to do it for you. There are many pitfalls for the unwary.

How do I transfer a complete MiniDV to my Mac?

I am not into videos but I promised friends to help them transfer their MiniDV tapes to an external harddrive. I played around a bit only to realize that it was not really obvious (at least to me) how to set up iMovie to do that simple task. It automatically seperates scenes, applies transitions etc.
All I want is to transfer a 1hour tape in one go to the USB harddrive. Is there any easy way to achieve that?

Sure you can save the file the conventional way, I'm just saying that if for some reason the file name is incorrect the iPad will not recognize it as valid Word file. I would absolutely recommend Save As .doc - just offering another reason why the OP cant open the file. Sometimes file names can get corrupted.
If the file is a valid Word file with the correct extension, it should open on the iPad.

Adjustment Layer Oddities

I'm seeing some new and unwanted behavior using Adjustment Layers. I love to use these for grading, CC and other effects, as I can easily apply one setting to a whole range of clips. However, sometimes a clip will require tweaking of those settings, or an additional effect. So I cut the AL to match the clip, then apply dissolves on the AL to match the dissolve on the clip. Below is a screen shot.
The problem is that the footage has started to freeze during the transitions, as if a frame hold is in effect. Normal playback resumes after the transition. That freeze also causes the export to fail with an Unknown Error. If I remove the dissolves from the AL, all works fine, except that now the different settings on the AL effects just 'cut', which is jarring and unwanted. It happens across media types and export settings, but strangely only on one of my two computers. Unfortunately it's my production rig, my personal computer still works fine with this. (Damn, why couldn't that be reversed!)
Is anyone else seeing any issues with dissolves applied to Adjustment Layers?

Was this ever worked around? There do not seem to be any entries since 2012.
I have just come across the same problem. I created a sequence in Windows 8 and later wanted to on it on it in W7 Home Premium. At the beginning of the Adjustment layer I placed a cross dissolve, in order to fade up a group of video tracks simultaneously. But each time I loaded the sequence, the machine stopped responding to transport, or any, keyboard commands. After much head-scratching and cursing, I began to remove FX and video tracks from the work until it began working again. In my case it would load as expected but from then on no amount of cajoling would make anything keyboard connected work. Using the mouse gave some control, i.e. selecting panels, but it appeared that the 'monitors' were in an odd state,leaving tails of everything that passed over them, whether part of Premiere or not.
I tried using key-frames on the Adjustment Layer, to change the opacity (noting that somebody suggested 99.9% instead of 100%) but that didn't appear to work at all.
Did anyone sort this? If so, how.

Premiere Elements 7 won't render video

I cannot get Premiere Elements to finish rendering my video in AVI format. I have tried multiple codecs. I have done it on 2 computers with 4 gigs or RAM, and dual core processors made in the last 2-3 years. One had Windows 7 and one had Windows Vista. They both get to about 70-90% and then stop. Windows Task Manager shows no CPU usage when this happens. I usually give it 10-15 minutes and if no activity happens I kill it. Is it normal for it to just hang on a random spot like this? Maybe I need to give it more time, but it sure seems like it has stopped responding.
What can I do to fix this? I could always try another format, but why won't this work?

Video is all local. I have copied the project folder and all video to the new computer and then pointed everything to the right paths. The reason I had to do this is because it wouldn't render on the original computer. The only computer that can render it is my work computer that has Windows 7, a core 2 duo and 6 gigs of RAM.
I moved it to my wife's laptop this morning using the same method that allowed me to render it at work. I previewed the whole video. It ran through from beginning to end without a problem. All scenes, music, transitions were there. So, moving the project worked. Again, all video was local.
As far as "codec", I used the wrong term. I think "encoder" is what I am changing. I pick the format, then click settings, and change the drop down to different AVI Encoders. I only started changing this after my initial attempts to render failed, so I tried the defaults first. In fact, I have tried the default settings no less than 3 times. I also tried QuickTime H.264 and it had they actually failed with error messages that basically said "An Error Occurred" and that's it.
Below are screens of the problem when rendering AVI showing the rendering has stopped. I also have uploaded my timeline.
