Freezing Screen, Graphics Card not functioning
I'd bought my Macbook Pro 15-inch in Summer 2011. 2 days ago my screen started freezing and I took it to the Genius Bar. They checked it and concluded that the problem is with the graphics card, so it either had to be replied (around $340 incl. tax) or I've to buy a new laptop. I asked them why it could have happened, they said, there might be many reasons, and "it's an old computer anyway". What I don't understand is, if a Macbook Pro 15-inch cannot last longer than 3,5 years, what is the point of paying so much for this product? And why is a 3,5 year old macbook pro considered as an old one? Do they expect me to pay more than thousand dollars every two years? It was my first Apple product and I am very disappointed and unsatisfied. What should I do now: a)replace the graphics card with a new one OR b)buy a new laptop?
Hi. This is a known issue with the AMD 6750m graphics card in macbook pro 2011. There are a lot of posts in here on it.Weather apple will address this I can not say. You would have to keep checking with Apple on this. One possible temp solution in to use energy saver to limit the use of the AMD card. Check is post. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4161572

Full Screen slide show not functional since upgrading Graphics card??
Just upgraded to a geforce fx 5200 graphics card...now the individual full screen pic or the full screen slideshow will not function. Get Fatal Error C0000005 at Address: 6e310c01. Dumps me out of Photoshop album starter edition 3.0. I have about 1000 images in multiple groups, files, email shares, etc and need to be able to get back to functionality. This has occurred since installing the graphics card mentioned. Is the newer 3.2 version an "upgrade" to 3.0. If I download it will it overwrite the existing version and still have all of my photos in place? It's an option I am considering to try to get back to properly functioning. I have a Geforce FX5500 card & updated the driver for it, why I have no idea! Anyway the slideshow came up with some sort of major error & as I already knew using bang up to date graphics card driver stops certain old games working I rolled back the driver from the 23/4/08 (approx) version to driver version 6.14.10.9371 dated 22/10/06. Different card I know but an older driver may sort it.

If you can see an image on your screen then your graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 3000) integrated into your 13" machine is working just fine.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say that a video file isn't working... how exactly isn't it 'working' and what file format is it in?

Graphics controller not functional
Hi, my computer wont start up all i get is a blank screen, but apparantly the caps and num lights flash a code which mine does. I get 4 flashes which according to the hp website is a Graphics controller not functional. Does anyone know what could be causing this or had this problem. I really wont to just be able to fix it without the hassle of going through Hp.

This question was solved.
View Solution.Try removing the hard disk and then starting up the PC. That way we can isolate the issue. If you make it to the BIOS screen then you hard drive might be faulty, not your motherboard

The open source driver doesn't support my card yet. I tried installing it first since its the recommended driver, but Xorg couldn't detect any display at all.
It seems the PCI BusID is not being read from the xorg.conf file. There's auto detection everytime the PC boots.

GTX770 graphics card not recognised - Z97 Gaming 5
I have a GTX650Ti and a GTX770 into my Z97 Gaming 5. The GTX650 works fine, but the 770 is not recognised by the board at all.
I tried the 770 in every slot, with or without the 650.
I tried swapping the power cables to both cards and it did not make a difference,
I then removed the 770 and put it in the board I was replacing, using the same cables and power supply and it worked fine.
The BIOS has been updated to version 1.3
I checked the board explorer in the BIOS and it shows that slot as empty.
Any clues why this would happen? Is there anything I need to do to get this card to work?list full and detailed system specifications, see >>Posting Guide<<

You notebook is not designed to run a 32 bit operating system and there are no graphics drivers for it from HP.
You will have to try these steps and if they don't work, I'm afraid you are out of luck...and will need to install a supported 64 bit operating system.
1. Install the Intel chipset driver and reboot.

I understand that the AMD graphics card is not working on your notebook computer, and that the Intel card is functional. Have you updated all of your HP drivers using the HP Support Assistant? Is there an error message that appears on the screen of your computer? Is this a recent or a reoccurring issue? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post which operating system you are using; and whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit. The more information you can provide, the better!
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

Radeon 6770M Graphics Card Not Operational on dv7-6199us

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
This laptop came with two on-board graphics cards: Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics, and Radeon (TM) HD 6770M. I had only ever used the Mobile Intel graphics card, but it frequently refuses to run certain games and runs many others at a terrible framerate. A friend told me that the Radeon 6770M was actually the better of the two and that I should disable the Mobile Intel in preference of Radeon. When I did this, the screen decreased in resolution from 1600 to 1080, which tells me that this "HD" Radeon was never operational in the first place. We cleared the Pavilion of AMD and ATI folders, then spent a whole afternoon and evening downloading and installing drivers for the Radeon, with no result but a wasted day. The drivers on HP Support (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5173... either give an error message saying it fails (for C++ 10 of all things) or that the computer does not meet the minimum requirements. Device Manager gives indications that the driver is not operational or did not install properly. I have never touched the Radeon graphics card in the two years since I bought it. Hi, I upgraded this laptop to Windows 8.1 , I've installed last AMD CCC Drivers but my games recognise only my internal graphic card (HD 8330) and not the HD 8670M, in permormance mode and in battery save mode. The PC recognises this card, but I don't know if I'm using it. Benchmarks shows only the internal one.

I grasp that only the HD8330 graphic card is being recognized after updating to Windows 8.1.
Are all your windows updates done?
Is it being seen in Device Manager?

You could also run The HP Support Assistant to aid with updates and resolving issues.
There is a bios update for your notebook also. Updating the BIOS.
I suggest contacting HP to aid with updating the bios, as it does have a potential to cause issues.

Windows 8 has a built in troubleshooter.
Press the Windows key + C to open charms
Type troubleshoot graphics in the search bar and press enter

ATI Graphics card not detected on cold boot, works on warm boot
Hi All,
I hope you can help me out with this.
I'm using Radeon HD7850 with ATI-Catalyst.
The issue is, if I do a cold boot (physically turn off the power, turn back on) the system won't boot into X, only tty.
At this point, a reboot works fine.
Or if I don't turn off the power, just shutdown and reboot (warm boot), it works ok.

Setting the PCI BusID in Xorg.conf seems to have no effect, even if I set it to 6:0:0 or 7:0:0, its still the same.

The open source driver doesn't support my card yet. I tried installing it first since its the recommended driver, but Xorg couldn't detect any display at all.
It seems the PCI BusID is not being read from the xorg.conf file. There's auto detection everytime the PC boots.

I'm totally new in this forum but from what I've read you guys really knows a lot about macs.
I have experienced some flickering lines appearing on my screen especially when watching graphic intensive webpages or changing resolution in games or switching to full screen on flash-based video websites. These lines are often accompanied by a low twittering noise from the computer. Sometimes it's just a few lines but sometimes the whole screen is covered. Logging off will fix the problem temporarily.
My theory is that my graphics card is giving up. What do you think? Is there something to do about it other than to change the card?
I have run tech tool 5 without any errors.
I would really appreciate some help. I took a pic of the screen with my iPhone but I suppose I can't upload it here for you to see?I've seen screens like that due to a seating problem with the card.
As you describe, logging out, or a restart would restore the screen.
When I first saw this behavior, it was when the machine was awakened from Sleep......
Reseat the card, and when tightening the hold down screw, make sure the card does not pull over to one side as the screw is tightened.
The clockwise turn of the screw can move the card over (down in the G5) which can cause some pins to have weak contact.
Also take care that the card is not tilted forward at all.
Pulling on the cables can cause the connectors toward the rear of the card to slightly lift out of the slot.
If, after cleaning, and adjusting the seating of the card, the symptoms continue, or especially if they worsen, the card may be considered compromised.
I would also try running the machine in a new user account just to be sure that a software problem within the account isn't culprit. -
New graphics card not working in old Pavilion elite
Hey, so i bought a new graphics card, ASUS strix 750ti oc ed., when i plug it in to my Pavilion elite hpe 531sc i get a blue screen with the hp logo and a text saying 'press esc for startup menu' or something like that. Pressing esc does nothing, pressing any other button does me nothing either.
I tried plugging in the old graphics card, it still sort of works except i cant really play games or get my resolution above 800x600, and install the drivers and all for the new graphics card. But the new graphics card still dont work when plugged back in.
So im at a loss here, is my desktop simply too old or something?Seeing alot of postings about trying that card. See this thread on a possible solution:

first sorry for my english,
second here are my specifications:
Intel i5 2430m 2,4 GHz
8 GB RAM
SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB and HDD Seagate 750 GB
AMD Radeon hd 6490m
Here is the problem:
two weeks ago i bought new ssd Samsung 850 EVO and HDD caddy. I switched original hdd to caddy and ssd to the place where hdd was before. I installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit to ssd, i istalled the latest drivers, but i have problems with AMD graphic driver.
When i start, for exp. Battlefield 3, windows crash and i get blue screen with note, that i have low IOH (NB) voltage (code 0x116). But when i uninstall driver for AMD and run the game on Intel HD 3000 graphic it runs perfectly.
Is it posible, that extra disc need power for working and use the power, which is used for AMD graphic card and that causes AMD for not working?
Sometimes i dont get blue screen, but i get note from windows: AMD driver stopped working and has been recovered Now i am using only intel graphics
