Freezing Screen with strange graphic bugs blackout computer crash & restarts

Hi All,
I'm a videographer and editor and work with some high-ress video files and my iMac often falls out during work or if I'm running Adobe premiere and Photoshop at the same time. My iMac should handle it but it won't. It freezes and gives strange graphic colors and blocks on the screen. (see photo's)
Anyone knows how to fix this?

Your GPU may be failing, I would recommend Using Apple Diagnostics - Apple Support, run this 2-3 times and if erorrs appear take it in for service. If you have AppleCare call them immediately. If the machine is less than 1 year old, then PLEASE book a Genius appointment and bring the machine in to be looked at.

Cant open firefox on second screen on computer with two screens with two graphics cards.

I have a computer with two screens and two diffrent graphics card. One of them is onboard GC and another one is USB GC. I am running two instances of FF and it works fine with 3.6.20 version. But when I update to the latest version of FF either 5 or 6 this does not work. Even if i try to open one instance of FF on second screen on USB GC , I cant see anything> i have to move it to the main screen to see the FF window and will not work on the extended screen. I am using windows 7 pro 32 bit and the screen resolution is set to 1280x1024 on both the screens.
Can you please help.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Dual Screen with multiple graphics cards?

Hi,
I have tried to utilise two screens, both to a seperate grahpics card but it does not seem to be working! Setting them as two different devices with BUS id's does not work and xrandr does not seem to be working either - it comes up that one of the screens is disconnected.
Here is my 60-radeon.conf:

It's my understanding that this should never happen, and always deserves a bug report upstream at xf86-video-ati or the X.org server.
What you can first try is installing xf86-video-ati-git from AUR to see whether it's already fixed and just not in a stable release yet.
The next step would just be collecting a stack trace and posting it on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg in Driver/Radeon or so (only after looking whether ther is already a similar bug of course) depending on how the stacktrace looks.
You really want a second computer and do this with ssh because a paused X server that controls the keyboard/mouse and the tty is not something you want to deal with...
So you have an ssh server running and start X normally on your computer, then at the second computer you connect with ssh and attach gdb to the xserver with "sudo gdb /usr/bin/X $(pgrep -f /usr/bin/X)" or so. That will first pause the X Server and you have to "continue" with writing "c[enter]" or so. Then you do whatever you do to make it crash and when it is crashing, gdb will pause it again. Then you can get a backtrace with "bt[enter]". That will give you a list of function calls from which libraries lead up to the crash and possibly some extra information about parameters or so. Then quit with ctrl+d or "quit" or so.
If you get stuck on a black screen on the PC with the crashing X server, try "startx" over ssh and then killing it with ctrl+c again. Starting and killing X "properly" helped at least for me when that happened.
You can get a lot more information when you recompile some thing with debug symbols. For example if you have yaourt you can use yaourt -G xf86-video-ati-git to create a directory xf86-video-ati-git and download the PKGBUILD into it.
In the PKGBUILD you can add !strip to options so it looks like "options=('!libtool' '!strip')" and in the build() function anywhere before autoreconf/make add export CFLAGS="-O0 -ggdb" (and if there is c++ code, export CXXFLAGS="-O0 -ggdb", but for xf86-video-ati and the x server there isn't I think) and then simply reinstall with "makepkg -fi"
Now if you replicate the crash with packages with such debug information you can do "bt full" in gdb. Without these debug information you will just get a lot of "No symbol table info available." but with it you can get many variable values and function parameters that can help the developers greatly (possibly).

[Xorg] Black screen with 2nd graphic card

I'm a french (Sorry for my English) and new on ArchLinux.
I have a problem with my laptop, he have 2 graphics cards, the first one is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD4200 series and the second it's an ATI Radeon HD 5650.
The problem is when I want to use the second card, I have a black screen when I start X. It's the same problem with ATI driver and xf86-video-ati driver even if my card is detected with "lspci" and by "aticonfig --list-adapters" with catalyst driver.
If you need, this is my Xorg log :

And if you want my xorg.conf , very basic.

I use one card and found I needed catalyst-dkms pkg as well as catalyst & catalyst-utils

Bought a used Ipod touch 3rd gen for my child and when charged I get a screen with a picture of a computer charging cord with an arrow pointing to a music symbol. What do I do to get it to work?

I've plugged it into the computer and nothing happens...nothing changes....the screen still has a pic of the computer charging cord with an arrow pointing to a music symbol at the top of the screen. I can't seem to get it to do anything.

IPhone white screen with jarred graphics

Hello.
I have an intermittened fault that is now happening all the time.
All you see on the screen is white with jarred box graphics. Sometimes doing hard resets or just pressing the on/off button brings the screen to normal. But as soon as it goes to black screensaver, when i press the bottom button it can go back to white.
I have done a system restore but i haven't tried doing one by wiping it to 'as new', i just restored from a previous back up.
The phone is still fully functioning as I can still receives calls and you can guess where the slide bar is. The phone hasn't been dropped, it is in a padded casing and the problem started the day after downloading the FatBooth app. It is out of warrenty.
Please help. How can this be fixed?

Tonight while working in Safari on the bodybugg website this semi-transparent line came down my computer like a curtain coming down at the movie theater. Then a gray box popped up telling me in several languages (english was at the top so I am guessing the other languages said the same thing) I needed to hold the power button down and restart my computer. This is a kernel panic. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics.
You can use the Console application in your Utilities folder to locate the panic log. Post the log here and we may be able to help.

Freezing screen with weird clicking sound to follow

My MacBook keeps freezing with almost every action I do with it including navigating the internet. It freezes for periods of time and makes this weird clicking sound that stops when my laptop starts working again, does anyone know what could be wrong with it? I've had to reset it once since it wouldn't turn on after the chime. Some one please help!

Bug causing computer crash - safari?

My MacBook Air crashed on Friday while browsing in safari and my MacBook Pro has just frozen while browsing apple support communities in safari in exactly the same way. Only difference is I turned the Air off and it died whereas I have not yet turned my Pro off. It is on a major freeze/go slow. Any ideas welcome. Did a back up yesterday. This Pro was loaded with my AIr backup. FM

Been on phone to very helpful apple tech support and tried safe-boot -shut down then start while holding down shift key then in disk utilities clicked verify disk - as all okay then went onto assist me to clear my library caches of any offending items. Important to do this with tech support on phone so that you don't wipe important files.
Also used start up choosing the start up volume option and restart at some point but cannot remember where - apologies. Highly recommend apple tech support when you need them.
No safari bug - just some dubious third party stuff cached most probably.

Ipod touch 5th generation battery screen with lightning bolt locked cannot charge or restart. ive tried everything from new cables attempting to shut down but stays at screen for a few seconds then black screen again over and over

screen locked up and shows the battery with low red and ligtning bolt and cannot hard shut down or reset just stays there for a few seconds then black screen. hooked up to computer and itunes doesnt recognize it or even shows that it is pluged in. looked and made sure nothing is broken or metal in ligting port or on cable which would prevent it from accepting a charge. ipod is only a month old and seems like a waste of money if its so hard to try to get an explanation of why this is ive been tryning to get an answer from apple for a week now.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Connect the music file with the artwork file post-computer-crash?

I want to retrieve artwork after restoring my computer?
So my computer (where itunes app data was stored) and my external hardrive (where my itunes library was stored) crashed, but luckily I had my itunes library was stored on dropbox so I have that uploading to my revived computer!
I have access to all my "old computer's" files (via a mounted image file that looks just like an external drive H: )
The "old computer" itunes used my dropbox folder for the library (J:work\Dropbox\Allen's Transfer Folder\iTunes)
my "New comuter" uses a local folder but the contents are exactly the same (C:\Companies\Dropbox\Allen's Transfer Folder\iTunes)
How can I get the artwork data from my "old computer" onto my "new computer" so that itunes will connect the music file with the artwork file?
is there a data file and will they automatically sync to the artwork if they are in different locations?

All of my music is from CDs, so all of my cover art are scanned images that I added to the music files in iTunes. My Album Artwork folder is heavily populated nonetheless. Thus, it stands to reason that if you delete the folder, just like every other default item in your iTunes folder it will be recreated when you launch iTunes. If I recall correctly, that folder also holds the data files for building your CoverFlow.

I personally have never had an issue with missing song links, but based on what I had read on the Macworld forums over the years, when links are lost, people start seeing /!\ next to several tracks in their iTunes library. Of course, most of the instances that I have read about have been after iTunes updates so perhaps it is during the library updating after a software update that causes the automatic detection of broken links. Otherwise, it does make sense that iTunes would not check a link until the user selects an unlinked song, because iTunes does not, and should not, scan your entire library for no apparent reason.

I downloaded the cocoPpa app for my iPhone and created shortcuts, it's now frozen on a white screen with the status bar it's not restarting but will do most normal functions that don't invoke leaving the page( except locking). Can anybody help?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

I opened this new thread to show, that this problems occurs not only for the ATI card but for the NVIDIA 8800 card, too.
My MacPro was delivered 8 days ago and was running without any problems. But all of a sudden, I got that screen freeze. And it wasn't the first time, I was heavely working 2-3 hours with that computer.
In total, 2 screen freezes showed on my computer. The first one during working with the computer. The second one during booting into MacOS X. The screen freeze occured during the boot phase with the grey screen and the spinning wheel.
My configuration:
MacPro 2.8, Dual Quad Core
6 GB RAM
3 harddisks, 1 standard from Apple, 2 Samsung with 750GB
MacOS 10.5.2
Formac 20" Monitor
Perhaps others have this problem, too? Than we should emphasize, that this is not an ATI related problem.

I've actually been having the freezing issue for a while now but I didn't have the know-how to troubleshoot it (PC tech trying to support the only Mac lab in the building).
MacPro will freeze randomly (no trend in time, system strain, or open programs). The mouse will operate but will not interact with anything.
Specs:
MacPro - Model 1,1
Dual Core Xeon 2.66
2gb RAM
nVidia GeForce 7300 GT
Mac OS 10.4.11
The machine always has 2 displays connected to it so the workaround that was discussed for the ATI 2600 doesn't apply. I had 1 display connected here in my shop and it froze for that as well.
