Freezing upon transfer of songs
my 20 gb ipod has begun to freeze up when i am transfering or try to manage the songs on it. the do not disconnect message stops flashing and the ipod locks up until it drains the battery. i sent it to applecare and said they could do nothing for the issue. (with no explaination as to what the issue might be). this began directly after i upgrade to itunes 5 ( onto a g3 imac). i am wondering if i am simply overloading my processor, in turn freezing the ipod? i' m not sure if that makes sense and am very disappointed that applecare could not even provide info about what is happening. any insight would be appriecaited.

GB freezes upon opening certain songs
After 3 years of perfect performance, my GB is now freezing when I attempt to open a song. It happens mostly on a particular song and sometimes with others but not all. I can't seem to find a common denominator among the songs that do this except for 2 plug-ins that are on several tracks in the songs that do most of the freezing. I've tried locking the tracks but that doesn't seem to help. These plug-ins do seem to take up a lot of CPU even though the company claims they doesn't. (Real Strat and Real Guitar 2) When I open garageband and click on a song, the loading bar goes half way and freezes requiring a force quit. The only way to get it to load is to try opening it several times until I get lucky and it finally loads all the way. I'm concerned that eventually it just won't open at all. I guess I could open it from my external disk drive but I'd like to know why this is happening and if there is anything I could do to stop it. I haven't tried opening every song yet but it seems to happening on mostly one or two songs. This never happened before I got these plug-ins (AU's)
but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.I know it's been only a few hours since I posted this but there's been no response and I'm desperate for a solution.
I have several deadlines to meet and am running around in circles. I've done everything I can think of --several times--to troubleshoot this to no avail.
Please, somebody on this forum, please respond. Any insight will be greatly appreciated. There must be a way to fix this.

my ipod been actin up lately. sometimes im just playing a song and all of a sudden it freezes or turns off. it dont do it often but it do. so im trying to transfer all my songs to my itunes or my computer. i have tried every software out there and it tells me that im missing a plugin. i have restored my ipod and had to start brand new. i have updated my itunes to make sure is not a update issue. i have the latest updates but is stil not doing it. so when i try to transfer the songs manually i go to my computer; my ipod; view folder options and select show hidden files. it dont even show the ipod control folder. it only shows dcim
You need a third-party program to get non-iTunes purchased music off the iPod. Which have you tried? Th good ones cost like TouchCopy and PhoneView. Here are some others:

It is probably not wise to leave your e-mail and phone number on a public forum.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
You purchase one download only.

Hello. I've encountered a problem with my iTunes that I would like some help on solving. My computer uses Windows Vista. iTunes recently began to freeze as soon as I opened its window. On two occasions, it appeared to work the first time after turning the computer on, but would freeze upon subsequent openings. No error messages are given. It will either freeze while saying "Accessing iTunes Store," or without saying anything at all. However, iTunes appears to work just fine when I open it in safe mode (holding Shift + Ctrl while opening), although I have not yet attempted to sync a device while using safe mode. I attempted to update iTunes to its most recent version (10.6.3.25) after first experiencing this problem. The first time I tried, it didn't work, saying that "errors occured" during the update. I disabled my antivirus software (Kaspersky Antivirus 2012) and tried again. This time, my computer said that the update was successful. However, the freezing problem has persisted.
After looking through Apple support and other discussion topics, I found several things to check for (relating to similar problems) as follows. I checked for them, but they don't seem to apply to my situation. Here is what i found.

Check for third-party plugins in the following two folders:
-C:\Users\username\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins\
Result: I found this folder, but it is empty, even with "Show hidden files and folders" enabled.
-C:\Program Files\iTunes\Plug-ins
Results: I did not find a "Plug-ins" folder in this directory, nor in the iTunes directory in Program Files (x86). However, there is a "Mozilla Plugins" folder in the (x86) directory, containing files "npitunes.dll" and "npitunes.xpt."

Result: These do not appear to be installed on my computer.
I also found something about Bonjour service, and that some people's similar problems were temporarily resolved when disabling Bonjour and reopening iTunes. I tried this, but it did not make a difference.

The songs on your Shuffle should still be in your iTunes library. That means you should just be able to connect your Nano to the same iTunes library and sync it just as you would with your Shuffle. There is no limit to the number of iPods, iPads, or iPhones you can sync to one computer, iTunes library, or account.
As for preparing the Shuffle for your husband, just restore it via iTunes and then let him sync it to his own iTunes library or if its the same iTunes library, let him configure it to sync only his content.

Qosmio G30 freezes upon Norton Internet Security 2008 startup
Norton Internet Security 2008 will freeze my computer as soon it tries to load and the only way to go on is to restart the system by pressing the on/off-button.
My notebook is a Toshiba Qosmio G30-177 (Model No. PQG32E-02G022GR) with Vista Ultimate and NIS2007 pre-installed. I have no problems with this NIS2008 version on my other notebook (Qosmio F10 - PQF10E-02300JGR, WinXP MCE).
NIS2007 runs fine on my G30 and I do not have any problems at all, but newer versions of NIS seem to get in conflict with my system:
1. I am able to install and run the new version, download all updates and adjust the settings. Maybe one or two days later my computer will freeze after start exactly when the tray icon of NIS appears. For a couple of seconds there is just no response of the system at all and the LED's of my notebook show that all HD activity has stopped. After being idle for these couple of seconds, the cooling fan will start to operate at maximum power, creating a tremendous noise I never experienced before, not even while the CPU was running at 100% for some time due to other programs. Forcing a restart is all I can do.
2. Now this time, I successfully restarted my notebook again (took some attempts) and it suddenly did not freeze. Then I disabled firewall and auto-protect permanently, so there was no freezing upon startup and I just had to manually activate both firewall and auto-protect after start. In order to prevent freezing again after reboot, I always disabled NIS before shutdown. For the next one or two days this workaround was quite successful.
3. All of a sudden, after one or two days, this workaround is going to become useless, because the system starts to freeze again at the very moment the tray icon appears. In this case, restarting has no effect at all, and NIS will continue to freeze at startup. I also tried to prevent NIS form starting by no longer allowing ccApp.exe to automatically run upon start (administrative tools > system configuration > "startup" tab). This is successful and my notebook is able to start normally, but if I later try to start NIS manually, it will freeze again.
I had this problem since NIS2008 was just released, so I thought that meanwhile a Windows or Norton update might have fixed the issue, but this weekend I gave NIS2008 another try without success. I am almost sure that the problem is not caused by any other software than Windows and/or Norton, because I also tried to install NIS after a full system recovery, thus having only pre-installed NIS2007 and Vista on my notebook. I did use the Norton removal tool and followed the deinstall instructions before trying to install the newer version of course.
My last hope was that the NIS2009beta version somehow would not freeze my system, but it does. It does not matter if I try to run 2008 or 2009beta version, the problem is exactly the same.
What really drives me almost crazy is the fact that NIS runs perfectly for some time, then needs a rather small workaround, and then after some time totally refuses to work. In these couple of days I did not change any system settings, install or deinstall any programs or did anything that I felt could conflict with NIS...
So far, I have no idea of a solution and have to use NIS2007 again.

I use NIS since 2001 and never had any serious trouble with this software.
There could be some compatibility problem, but I don't think that Vista is causing it, because otherwise a lot more people should have the same problem. Even the installation of all current Windows, NIS and Qosmio updates did not solve it. Of course I tried to get help using Symantec's Support and their user forums, but without success. This problem seems to be a rare one (unfortunately for me). I tested the NIS2009beta and even though it's a new version, the PC freezes again when this program starts. And this made me think that maybe a service or setup by Toshiba causes the problem and other Vista users are not affected. It's a strange thing that the pre-installed NIS2007 version is running fine...

Your i-device was not designed to be a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up. Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer. If the computer has nothing on it, the device is set to match the computer's content -- nothing.The exception is purchased content.
