Freezing when printing to PDF

Greetings All,
I am running Windows server 2003, with Citrix Metaframe 3.0. My clients are Macs connecting with the citrix client as well as MS clients using RDP (the issue happens on both). They run a PC application (a database app) that resides on the Citrix server (MS Windows 2003 server). All is fine, except when a user runs a report and prints that report to a pdf file, when they go to exit that app, their connection freezes and I have to
manually disconnect them. If the same user uses the same setup logs onto the server, just views the report OR makes any changes to the databse, then exit the app, their connection releases with no issues. So I have narrowed down the issue to printing to a pdf file. Is there a security setting that needs to be modified to allow all users to do this, or is it something else?
Acrobat 7.0 standard and distiller are installed on
this server. I've included an event error:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MetaFrameEvents
Event Category: Printer Management
Event ID: 1103
Date: 6/25/2008
Time: 2:40:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: CITRIX2
Description:
An error occurred while retrieving client printer properties. Default
printer properties will be used instead. Client name: (Andy Zevons Compute)
Printer: (Technology Manager (from Andy Zevons Compute) in session 2)
Printer driver: (HP Color LaserJet PS)
Thanks in advance,
-andy-

It is not clear if the client is using Acrobat on a local machine or you are using a server print of a PDF. If the latter, you may have to hope someone has server experience here along with comments about the license. Acrobat generally is only licensed to work on a local machine. Thus if thy are using it locally, they need to be able to somehow see the report and be able to print from the application on their machine.
I have no clue about the server applications and the possible viewing aspect that is needed.

  • Acrobate IX freezes when printing/creating pdf in Firefox - same settings as in IX

    Hi Guys,
Had the product for a week and it is not working... Usual stuff, a new PC take weeks to bed down.
When I try to print/create pdf from something in Firefox, both Acrobate IX and Firefox freeze. I have the old PC with Firefox and Acrobate IX, same default setting and it works everytime. XI freezes. Close Firefox and Acrobate and then re-open and it may print. If it does the next time I try it freezes.
Can anyone help?? not sure how this works... but my email is [email protected]
This place was so hard to find... is there a way to tag this question when an answer comes?? Possibly a Moderator could make it so??

    Hi,
Could you please let me know the version of both Adobe Acrobat & Firefox installed on your machine?

  • Photosmartc4975 (win7) freezes when printing multipage pdf files.

After several pages (random number usually about 3) it stops in the middle of the page and printer freezes. Needs restart.

    Any known solution?
    Thank you

    Hi,
the 'Print' button you describe is the 'Print' button of the Adobe PDF reader ActiveX control.
Start>Adobe Reader>Edit>Preferences>Internet>uncheck "Display PDF in browser"
    and
Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "Do not save encrypted files to disk"

  • FireFow freezes when printing to Adobe PDF printer

    Hi,
I regularly but not always have FireFox freezing when printing a page with the Adobe PDF printer (not with the plug-in but by using the "print this page" button on the page I visit or by clicking File > Print . The only way to get out is to kill FireFox.
Most often, I can eventually print the page after restarting FireFox and regaining access to the page. The trouble is that the page may no longer be available if the site requires identification and starts a new session ( ignoring the previous one).
    This is annoying.

This is as much as I know about that add on [http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/using-pdf-printer.html] Have you checked the printing preferences or made any changes recently?

  • Adding a map page causes my book to freeze when printing or purchasing

I have created several books with maps. When printing to pdf, viewing in Preview or even purchasing, the everything "freezes" at the map page. If I remove the map page everything works fine. I've purchased many books before, but I've never used maps. I'm using iPhoto '09 v8.1.2
    Thanks

Problem solved! The larger the map, the longer it takes to "compile" that page. My map page included all of North America. When I zeroed in to just one city and surroundings, the map page compiled very quickly. So I went back to my North American map and decided to just wait. The blue progress bar stopped at that page as before, but after 20 minutes or so it proceeded to the next page and finished the rest of the book. Patience is a virtue.

  • I have a user that has an issue when printing to PDF.

I have a user that has an issue when printing to PDF. When printing to PDF the PC will intermittently freeze and sometimes the print spooler will crash taking all other printers offline. A reboot clears it up for a while but then it comes back.
    Acrobat 11 Pro
    Windows 7 x64
    Office 2010 Professional
Any help would be great!  Thanks

I manage a network of 30,000 + workstations all with Acrobat Pro 10.  Upon upgrading to 10.1.10, they all exhibited similar symptoms printing to the PDF printer.  The problem is most obvious in IE 11, it will cause the browser to stop responding, however it seems to depend on the page being viewed.  For example we can print google.com, but not yahoo.com.
And of course there is no method to roll back to 10.1.9, other than to completely remove and re-install Acrobat.
I hope this is getting addressed soon!

  • Bad crash when printing to pdf in Morningstar software - is it a 64 bit problem?

Had bad crash when printing to pdf in Morningstar Principia Pro software - is it a 64 bit compatability problem? All other software I have can print
to Acrobat pdf, but in Morningstar the Window 7 PC freezes and not even Task manager can
unfreeze the computer. Acrobat worked fine in my old XP 32 bit PC when printing from Morningstar. Recently a webinar using
an Adobe webinar software I was told I must only use a 32 bit browser, so I suspect Acrobat is incompaitble with my new 64 bit PC. Work around solution is to print to Microsoft XPS and then convert to Acrobat but I want to use Acrobat only! Is there a patch for people using 64 bit PCs?
Can someone at Adobe respond to me, please? I have used Acrobat for over 10 years and am very loyal.

Michael: I have tested other programs ability to print to Acrobat and also tested ability for other programs to
export to Excel or Word. The only crash is when printing an Acrobat pdf from Morningstar Principia Pro I get a bad crash. The work around is to print to XPS and then convert the XPS file to Acrobat pdf. To get out of the crash which can't be fixed by Windows Task Manager shut down, is to open the printer file and tell the printer to delete the pending print job.
I'm using latest Version 9.3.4 Standard Acrobat; Win 7 Pro 64 bit, 10 g of RAM, HPE 390t standalone PC, no networking.

  • Problem with page breaks in IE when printing to PDF

    Hey,
I am having formatting issues with IE when printing to pdf, I have a dynamically created report which has page breaks at the end of each page, if I open this report(report is in html) in firefox and goto print the formatting is correct, if I open the same report in IE and print the report 80% of the pagebreaks are in tact, 20% are ignored which just makes the report look rubbish, my question is,( I know it not directly related to the reader but was unsure on which forum to post) is there a different css or formatting I should use to make IE play ball.
    Cheers
    Tom.
the style I use to insert pagebreak is
    <code>
    .breakhere {page-break-before: always;}
code I then use to implement it is.
    <TABLE BORDER=0 WIDTH=100% CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 CLASS="breakhere">

You may use a forum for IE.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro do not open when printing a pdf document. Can anyone help?

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro do not open when printing a pdf document, instead I open it with Adobe Reader X to be able to print.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Edna,
It sounds like Adobe Reader X is your default PDF file handler. Launch Adobe Reader X.  Choose Edit > Preferences > General.  Click the 'Select Default PDF Handler' button at the bottom and choose Acrobat 9 from the drop-down menu.  Click Apply, then OK.
Restart your computer.  Acrobat 9 should now be your default PDF file handler again.

  • Missing images when printing to pdf from Word

When printing to pdf from MS Word 2003 in some cases textboxes and/or images disappear in the target PDF, depending on their position.
Word and Acrobat Standard are the latest updates. If the Word text is converted on a Mac the target pdf has the images present, so it looks like it's a Windows only problem. Any suggestions where to start looking for a fix?

You may have to turn on "display large images" in the preferences.

  • Text getting cut off when printing to PDF from Excel

    Hello,
I've seen a lot related to this subject but nothing that shows a real solution.
Using Excel 2003-sp3 and Adobe Acrobat v.9 Standard, the right half of the last character in the string gets cut off. It prints from excel fine.
It's not always the text that is the right-most on the page either. An affected PDF file is attached - note the cut off "S" on the last line (NET ASSETS OF GOVERNMENTAL ACTIVITIES).
         Any assistance is appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • When printing to PDF from webpage, the pdf is compressed on the bottom of each page and markedly smaller print. How do I correct this?

When printing to PDF from webpage, the pdf is compressed on the bottom of each page and with markedly smaller print, the top of the page is fine. How do I correct this?

Open Contacts and click Preferences on the menu named Contacts. On the General tab of the Preferences window, select Show First Name: Before Last Name and then print. You can change that Preference back to the other way after printing if desired.

  • Objects missing when exporting to PDF, but show up when printing to PDF

Hi - I'm working with someone, both of us in InDesign CS4, and she has some documents that cause a few random objects to just go missing when exported to PDF (same on my computer). But when printing to PDF, they show up fine. They also show up fine if we recreate each individual object, but that can end up being a lot of work. She prefers to export to PDF because of quality. I'm drawing a blank on this one!
The attached file shows the issue. The green blocks just don't want to show up when exporting.

    Peter -
The links are just the PDFs of the black and white portions and don't really matter too much since they show up fine when exporting or printing to PDF. Our main concern is the green blocks, which are indeed the green areas of the plan you pointed out. They are actually separate objects created directly within InDesign that can be moved and adjusted.
I just updated to 6.0.4 and that didn't help. I wonder if this may be a variant of the bugs I was reading about with master pages and certain things not showing up when creating PDFs or printing (even though none of these things are on the master page)?
    Thanks

  • PDFMaker changes page orientation when printing to pdf

Hi all! I am praying for an answer. My job requires me to convert huge word documents to pdf using the pdfmaker add-in with acrobat Professional 8.1.3. My problem is as follows and has occured in two seperate documents. I have Microsoft word 2007 and run on a VIsta OS.
So my problem is when I create a pdf from word acrobat for some odd reason changes any page's orientation that contain excel spreadsheets that have been inserted (I believe through copy and paste and they are not linked to excel). Thus I get a page with a landscape spreadsheet with a profile orientation and it cuts off the information for my client. By the way, it does the complete opposite of whatever orientation I choose.
Here are some things I have tried: I tried saving document as a 97-2003 word file and create pdf from that version, I have changed the PDFmaker advanced settings for auto-rotate pages and tried all three options to no avail. I really need some help fast! I will love anyone who solves this problem for me.
    Thanks,
           Jason.

GREAT NEWS!!! I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!
Okay so after a lot of frustration and mountain dew I have figured this out, but first the problem is simpler then I listed it. So here is the actual problem:
I had a document with multiple sections and one section was oriented landscape while the rest were profile. When printing to PDF the resulting pdf file had all sections in profile and ignored any change in orientation and cut off/cropped out elements of the pages I had in landscape orientation.
    SOLUTION:
The solution to this problem is in two parts: 1) changing some print preview stuff in word, and 2) changing preferences in pdfmaker/acrobat ribbon. For this solution to actually work however you must have the landscaped sections sectioned off by inserting section breaks in word.
Step 1) Go to the section where you document orientation is changed from the rest of the document. Press the office button (in 2007) and drag down to print>print preview. You will notice that your section has now reverted to profile. (Ah Ha!) Change the page orientation to landscape.
"But wait, now my margins or elements are getting cut off" you say. Go to Page setup. Make sure that near the bottom it says "Apply to: This section"
Now make it landscape and this changes the margins to also be landscape.
Step 2) Click on your Acrobat tab and go to preferences. Under pdfmaker settings click advanced settings and as Bill and I have said change auto-rotate pages to individually.
    AND YOU ARE DONE!!!!!

  • When printing to PDF Acrobat locks up at spooling

Running Windows XP and Office 2007 and Arcobat 8 (with most recent web updated)
When printing to PDF from any program (Word, Excel, Quickbooks, even Acrobat), the creating PDF window locks up and the print job gets stuck at the spooling status. No errors are displayed, I'm unable to cancel anything. Seemed to start happening after downloading the latest updates.
Have tried to repair installation 3 times, reinstalled program 2 times, with no sucess. Have run this version for over three months with no issues beforehand.
    Help!!!!

    AcroTray is running in background.
Thanks, will try that. Just have to work out Word settings so the conversion is seamless. Word tends to drop images and such when I do that.
In the interim, I've downloaded the CutePDF driver and all seems to be working. Ultimately the issue seems to lie with the PDF driver provided by Acrobat, but no matter how many times I reinstall the driver I still get the same problem.
