Freezing when waking from sleep with latest Lion release?
I have had both my IMac and MacBook Pro freeze upon waking from sleep recently. Occurred only after installing latest Lion upgrade. Very frustrating since requires hard reboot ronin case of the MacBook Pro, reinstalling the OS. I have noticed similar complaints by others. Any suggestions for a fix other than waiting for a new release?
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
pmset -g
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered – the text, please, not a screenshot.

Late 2007 MB Freezes when waking from Sleep after Lion Upgrade
I have a Late 2007 MacBook that I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion. Since the upgrade, the computer occassionally freezes when waking up from Sleep (putting it to sleep by shutting the screen). Sometimes, I will see about 1-2 seconds of activity (i.e. AIrPort icon searching for network), but then the screen will turn black and the computer will restart. Other times, I actually get a kernel panic.
I never had this issue with Snow Leopard, and it seems to happen more often if I try to use the computer (i.e. move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard) immediately after I open the screen and while it's still waking up. By being patient and giving the computer 5-10 seconds to wake up, it seems to only freeze about 1 out of every 7 times when waking up, but it's stil frustrating to not know whether or not I'm going to lose my work anytime I put the computer to sleep.
From other issues that I've researched, I've disabled Bluetooth completely (which reportedly fixed some similar issues), but I still had periodic freezes even with it disabled.
The only thing I can think of that might be contributing to a weird hardware issue is that the AirPort card died on me a few years ago, and I had to replace it with an AirPort Extreme from a Late 2007 15" MacBook Pro (I'm pretty sure the model of the card I put in is AR5BXB72, although I could open my computer back up to verify if that would be helpful). Snow Leopard seemed to be perfectly fine with that card, and Lion is ok for the most part (WiFi works perfectly fine), but I'm wondering if I need to update/change any Kexts for that piece of hardware.
Here is one of the kernel panic reports from about 2 weeks ago:

Freeze when waking from sleep since 10.4.11
Ever since updating to 10.4.11, My MBP locks up upon waking from sleep. It's the same problem I've had for months. The screen freezes and I get a spinning beach ball and the hard drive clicks. It usually happens when scrolling web pages in Safari, but it also happens at other times, but not as frequently. It happens a second time and the entire system seizes up. No crash log is generated. Anyone else seeing this?
I ran AHT and TechTool Deluxe 3.1.1 again and both reported no hard drive problems. I'm fully backed up and I'm calling Apple Care tomorrow. I'm concerned because I have one of the problematic Seagate hard drives; serial number and firmware match the troublemakers. Back over the summer, I called Apple Care about this and they suggested I rename my existing ~/Library/Preferences folder and restart to create all new pref files. This seemed to work for about two-three weeks.

Problems when waking from sleep with display
Okay, so I have a Dual 1.8 G5 with an upgraded ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card that I've had in it for over a year now. I just bought a new monitor, a Viewsonic 22" widescreen LCD to replace the 17" viewsonic CRD I had. Now, i get occasionally some random noise or something when the computer wakes from sleep that disappears most of the time if I turn the monitor off and back on.
Now does anyone have a thought as to if this is a problem with the monitor (i.e. should I take it back) or a problem with the card.
ThanksPaul Pardue-
How is the monitor connected to the card? Have you verified that all of your connections are secure?
What does the noise look like?

Shadow artifacts when waking from sleep with an external monitor.
This problem happens when I have an external monitor connected, I put the MacBook to sleep, and then wake it up with the monitor still connected.
Upon waking, the shadow effects surrounding all of the windows get "corrupted"
The shadows look like TV static at the corners and black streaks along the sides. This effects all windows that were open and all new windows.
I imagine the bitmaps that are used for the shadows get corrupted on sleep for some reason.
I have some non-original ram installed right now, so I'll try reseating it and I'll try putting the original ram back in and let you guys know if it makes a difference.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Mac Mini (Late 2012) Freezing when waking from Sleep
Since I upgraded to Yosemite, I have noticed that if my Mac Mini goes to sleep, and I try waking it. It will freeze, and I am forced to shut it down manually. By doing this I am afraid that it is going to damage the hard drive. It never occurred until upgrading to the newer operating system. Am I the only person having this problem?
No, and I have not seen a solution.

Freezes when waking from sleep
When I hit a single key or click the mouse or hit the power button, the computer goes from a blank black screen to a blue screen and stops there. Sometimes I see a flicker of an image (the screensaver or the entry screen) then it goes to blank blue. To get out of the blank blue screen, I have been shutting down the computer & restarting it by pressing the power button. Is there a better way than shutting down & restarting like that? Or even better what is wrong & how can I fix it?
Welcome to Apple Discussions Donna
Sounds like it could be a loose monitor connection. The first thing to do it tighten all connections between the monitor & Mac mini, even if they already feel tight. -
Spinning ball when waking from sleep
I'm running Leopard (10.5.7) on a PPC and over the last 2 days it's been freezing when waking from sleep.
On waking cursor moves, and Spaces works but as I click on each open application they lock up. iStat also freezes.
The panic log has a reference to com.apple.iokit.IOATAFamily - does this point to hard drive issue??

com.apple.driver.ndrv.ATY,Radeon9000i.0x1`In an attempt to fix the problem I booted from the Leopard Install Disc.
The machine has 1 HD installed that's partitioned in 2 - OS on one volume, data on the other.
In Disk Utility the boot volume's name is disk0s10 rather that the name I gave it (the other volume name is OK). Could this have anything to do with the problem? -
Hi All, Since updating to Lion, my imac won't recognise the ext HDD (Maxtor) when waking from sleep mode, I have tried another port, diisc utility (Ext HDD not listed in here) but nothing works. I now find that I have to restart the imac to get the drive recognised..which is fine until the imac goes into sleep mode then I lose the drive and have to restart etc etc.....anyone suffering same issue. The Ext Drive worked perfectly until the upgrade..
Thanks for this, and apologies for delay in replying...in between seeing your post I backed up the ext hdd to another mac and used the disc utility to erase and repair and then re mounted the ext hdd. OK. I have then tested the ext hdd being recognised when waking from sleep mode a few times and everything appears to be fine. If this doesn't work (long term) I will follow the instructions as you have suggested....
I now have a new problem with my HP printer (Photosmart Plus) which is not being recognised by a new wireless router..Ok whilst the router is switch on and I have reconfigured the printer..but when the router is switched off overnight and then switched back on...I get a 'printer is not connected' message and have to go through the re configure routine all over. I am minded to think this is a router problem as the same issue is happening to my wifes Mac Book Pro (which is only a few weeks old)...any suggestions.. -
I installed OS X Lion v10.7.3 because of the following claim.
The OS X Lion v10.7.3 Update includes Safari 5.1.3 and fixes that:
Resolve a Wi-Fi connection issue when waking from sleep
It continues to be a real pain having to reconnect to the network each time I wake my MacBook Air from sleep.
Does anyone have a suggestion for the resolution to this problem? It seems the update fixed old problems for some and caused new problems for others. Sorry to hear you're in the latter group.
Here are some things to try.
1. Go to System Preferences > Network, and click the gear icon under the network interfaces like so:
Whatever service order you have set, drag Wi-Fi either to the top (assuming it's not already there) or someplace else in the list. Click OK and then Apply. Sleep the system then wake it again to observe any changes.
2. Click Wi-Fi in the above then click Advanced. Select all the networks your computer has ever joined and delete them with the "-" button. OK then Apply again. Select your network under the AirPort icon to re-join it. Sleep and wake again to see if that did anything.
3. Try creating a new, temporary user account. Log in under that account to see if its behavior is any different.
You may have done all of these already but perhaps there is something you have not thought of. If nothing helps we may just have to wait a bit longer for Apple to release a fix. -
Wifi disconnects when waking from sleep mode; running Mountain Lion
Had this same issue with Lion as well,, wifi disconnects when waking from sleep mode,,,any ideas how to fix this pesky issue?
Hi Sky,
This has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Click OK.
Also, turn off IPv6:
System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
Or whatever Interface you use. -
After waking from sleep, my iMac (Lion) is unresponsive. The mouse moves, but when I click things it won't open them.
This has happened EVERY time the iMac goes to sleep for the last few days.. the only way I have found to resolve the issue is to manually restart the computer each time via the button on the back of the iMac.
Any and all help is appreciated!
ThanksFWIW, I never sleep my machines or their HDs, just their displays and never have an issue waking up the displays, usually run 24/7. Give that a shot.

IMac loses connection to network when waking from sleep
Hi There,
We are a small mixed environment of Macs and PCs running on a Windows 2008 domain. One of 2 iMacs that now run Mountain Lion 10.8.5 is having problems when waking from sleep. One of our designers will go for lunch and the machine will sleep for about 30 to 40 minutes. Upon her return the iMac will kick her off of the 3 shares she usually logs into (2 are on Win2008 machines, and 1 is a MacPro running 10.6.8 Server).
If she has files open in any of the Creative Suite Apps, the app will crash and she will have to restart the whole machine. If no files are open then she can usually reconnect to the shares after a short while. Obviously I told her not to leave any files open, but its causing her some headaches.
Its also creating srv errors (id 2012) on our domain controllers, when she tries to wake her machine.
This Imac is a late 2009, and we have a 2011 model that has no issues at all. Both are set exactly the same.
I have reset SMC, Pram, and rebinded to the domain, and searched through these forums quite a bit to no avail.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.I am continuing to work on this issue, and have tried a number of things based on searching here and elsewhere.
And Lucky Me, I have been able to replicate this behavior on one of other Macs (imac 2011, on 10.8.5). I also see errors on 2 separate Windows file servers on the domain (Event ID: srv 2012).
Below I am posting what seems to be the relevant area of the log.

This is from the 2011 iMac, and I see something very similar to this on the 2009 machine.
I continue to think this is a software issue related to 10.8.5 and Adobe CS (CS5 on the 2009 machine and CS 5.5 on the 2011) as this appears to have come up only since the recent update.
Any help would be appreciated. -
Hi
Two problems - one of which is driving med crazy!!
Have the latest updates, and the display is connected to a MBA (mid 2011).
The two are almost alwayes connected, and every time I wake the MBA from sleep, the Thunderbold Display does not "support usb sound" - the sound options are only MBA and headphones. Only a restart will give me the option to use Thunderbolt as sound output: WHAT TO DO!?!?!!
Sometimes when waking from sleep the USB in the Display seems to be "off" - the will not charge my devices (iPhone, iPad etc.). Only reboot seems to fix this... I have seen this in other discussions but not found a permanent solution - any thoughts?Same here but reinstalling OSX is a bit drastic. I solved the problem by deleting a preference.
Go to Macintosh HD then System then Library then Preference panes then Sound.prefPane
Delete Sound.prefPane (you need to type your password).
Logout or restart.
This has happend twice this week so WHY is this suddenly occurring?
Hi,
I found this solution in the forum, but I can't find it again. I had cut and pasted it into a text file, because it solved my problem. I just don't want to take any credit for it. It did work for me. I had no problems for 3-4 weeks with the monitor, I have had the sound problem since last Friday. Very frustrating.
BSGINC -
Hi,
I have an Imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop which I have upgraded to lion.
Recently I keep getting kernel panics when waking from sleep mode and I cannot figure out what it is.
I am not very computer savy - I.e. I use a computer but don't know programming etc.
The computer then asks me to shut down and restart.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is driving me crazy.

Thank you very much !!
DaveHi, for other peoples information - I finally figured out the problem. It was actually a faulty RAM module which I had bought. I had upgraded from 2 to 4 gb of RAM using an approved type of RAM for my particular computer. Finally I removed one module of RAM (after doing nearly everything else under the sun including trying to reinstall the operating system and wipe the computer etc) and the computer worked fine.
