Freezing while trying to dial

Does anyone else have the problem where the phone will randomly choose not to dial either from favorites or directly from a contact or even the dial pad? I have to wait up to 10 minutes before the thing will allow me to dial again. It is up to date with the most recent software.
Any help  or suggestions would be appreciated as this is nuts!

Verizon Techs should do more research before posting to threads.
I have the EXACT same problem with my Thunderbolt. It primarily happens right after ending a previous call, when you immediately attempt to make a call. While pulling the battery does quickly remedy the problem, where is the convenience of using the phone if you have to wait 5 minutes (exaggeration) for the phone to reboot or do this each time the dialer freezes. And in regards to clearing the cache, if it happened EVERY time I tried to make a call, I would be inclined to agree with that action. I never had this problem with Android 2.1, it's only been since the 2.2 update back in July. And I certainly hope it's not a problem once Verizon can figure out how to make 2.3 work.
This is my 4th HTC device dating back to Alltel. Verizon has not impressed me much since switching from Alltel. I am very close to giving them back the phone and getting an EVO at Sprint.

Final cut pro x and my brand new computer is freezing while trying to background render.  Help!!!

I can't give any specific advice but try these  general  FCP X trouble-shooting suggestions.
Use this free app to trash the preferences. This should be the first thing you try when any problems occur.

    2. Open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3. Trash FCP X using this free app and reinstall it.

If these 3 measures don't work, create a new User Account (Admin) in System Preferences and try running FCP X from that as it sometimes works miracles.

  • ITunes freezes while trying to import CD (spin wheel action)

Occassionally when I try to upload a CD into my iTunes library, it will get part way through and then suddenly freeze, displaying the ever annoying spin wheel. I can't figure out how to cancel the import or quit out of iTunes, eject the CD, etc. I have tried force quitting and nothing happens. Any suggestions?

By any chance, do you have an old copy of MusicMatch Jukebox installed on the PC?
(I've seen one case recently with similar symptoms occuring if the mmjb.exe process from the MusicMatch JukeBox was running while trying to do the import in iTunes.)

  • Computer freezez while trying to import

Just today my computer is starting to freeze when I import songs from a CD using iTunes. I tried to run the CD diagnostic and it freezes it up during that as well. It was working perfectly fine and now it doesn't. I tried ripping from the same CD drive using Windows Media Player and it worked totally fine. I even checked the box in preferences that says: use error correction (under the import tab) and that doesn't even work. I'm really very frustrated because my computer never freezes up, ever. Until now. I can't even do anything I have to manually reset the computer.

I have the same problem. I have only just upgraded to an 80G iPod, it worked for a few weeks and now can't import any CDs (stopped working just over a week ago). I've removed the iTunes software (and QuickTime) and reinstalled, I've tried using an external USB CD drive in place of my internal drive and get the same symptoms. iTunes takes over a minute to open but appears OK. When I insert a CD the drive spins, I get the automatic pop up asking what I want to do with the CD and regardless of whether I close this window or choose import using iTunes, iTunes freezes. I originally suspected the Matshita drive but the external drive (Iomega Super DVD) has the same problem. The diagnostics don't work either unless I start them and then immediately insert the CD (see below). Is there anyone in Apple that can help with this? My iPod is now useless.

  • Computer freezing while trying to connect to usb by pc card on laptop

Hi, im trying to help a friend out who has problems with his ipod. he has a compaq laptop presario 2108us. he only has 2 usb slots in the back which are broken. the broken one somtimes works as far as connecting the ipod to the computer, but does not charge it. when it does connect, it transfers files fine while at the same time, doesnt charge. so to try to fix his usb problem, i bought the pc card with 2 usb. his laptop is capable of card slot type 1,2,and 3, and compatible with 16 bits. with the card, it works fine with a jumpdrive, recognizes everything. when i try to connect the ipod to it, it shows up in my computer, but not itunes, and after a couple minutes the computer totally freezes, mouse and everything, shortly after i manually dissconnect my ipod, the computer responds like normal again. we've tried 2 different brands of cards, ive done all the microsoft updates. and the pc card does work with the ipod withanother laptop, so its the computer. although i think that a system recovery might help, i just wanted to get some more information before i take that step, thanks.

Your Mac must be on Lion (10.7) to run iCloud. Apple had to change the operating system to fully support it. Nevertheless, it is possible to get emails from iCloud without having Lion. Please tell me if this interests you.
Anyways, here is the link to buy Lion (30 dollars, totally worth the upgrade ): http://itunes.apple.com/be/app/os-x-lion/id444303913?mt=12

    Any suggestions?

Please tell us the operating system, and any error messages (exact wording, or a scereen shot) you see. If the problem happens while the splash screen is active on load, what is the last message you see scrolling on the bottom of the splash screen?

  • Ipod freezes while trying to restore

I have been trying to fix my ipod 20 gb. It all started when it started skipping songs, it would start the song then go to another, go to that song then stop and go back to the main menu. I then proceded to connect it to Itunes. It froze every time I tried. Then thats when I got the apple logo and after the folder with excalmation point came up. I tried the 5 R's. The only that I have not been able to the restore. The restore will not let me at all do it. The ipod will be connected and I hear it making the clicking noise, but it just sits there, and the battery is full so I dont know what its doing. Then Restore finally becomes an option and it says CANT MOUNT IPOD. I dont know what to do, and I am extremly frustrated. This is the first major probelm I have ever had with ipod. Any help???Thanks in the future to anyone who can give an answer.!!Is there any number I can call to talk to anyone about this?
    Ipod 20 gb.   Windows XP

    Hello all,
First. make sure your XP(OS) installed on drive C. Open My computer folder and hope you can see your iPod there, right click, try to change the drive to M. If it still does not solve, read the following, sorry which is very long one
    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning ! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery replacement (with pictures)
    http://www.kokopellimusic.us/KM_instructions.htm
Have I tried this myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

  • Syncing freezes while trying to sync movie

I have the 80 gb ipod classic, and I just recently downloaded my digital copy of SATC. It works fine with itunes, but when i try to copy it over to my ipod it freezes at 30 mb. Does anyone know what is wrong and how I can get this movie onto my ipod??

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

  • G4 starts but freezes while trying to load

My G4 has been acting strangely lately - occasionally when I boot up, nothing lights up. Then, a few weeks ago, I booted up and it said the computer could not load. These were both temporary occurences... but last night I rebooted my computer after it crashed, and now it only loads so far as the Mac OX loading page, and freezes right at the very beginning of loading. I've tried this several times and nothing has changed. Can anyone please help me here? Is this a typical problem, and one that can be fixed?

  • Firefox freezes while trying to download embedded media via Flashgot while Tor is enabled

I have both plugins of Flashgot (1.2.8.2) and Tor button (1.2.5). For example, I want to grab a video from Youtube (while the video is running) using Flashgot while Tor is enabled, Firefox will freeze but the download is not progressing and window cannot be closed. I have to kill the firefox.exe process to reactivate it. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.
This does not happen when Tor is disabled. So there might be some conflicts between Flashgot and Tor plugins. But hopefully, firefox team can help to get around with it. TIA!

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

  • Why is InDesign CC freezing while trying to perform various tasks?

    I am on Windows 7 - 64 bit
Whenever I try to change the doc setup or delete a color swatch, or other various tasks, INDD CC is freezing and then I have to do a control-alt-delete and "end task" - shut it down. Same problem occurs when I re-open the program. Very frustrating - need to get some real work done.
    Any ideas?
    Sally

    Here what I've done:
I did the update to 9.1
I did an online chat with adobe for about 3 hours, they thought that the document was corrupt somewhere, but still couldn't fix the problem - I was told to call in and an agent could take over my screen (I'm loathe to call in as last time I did and left a message for a call back they never did call me back - wait times are very long)
    After speaking to Adobe:
I tried restoring preferences to default
I tried saving the file as INDL and re-opening
Nothing helps, it just keeps freezing when I do anything.
What I would like to do is just start a whole new document from scratch with the same doc size, number of pages (64) and all my paragraph styles (15 of them), to see if I can work in it without freezing.
So how do I copy over all my paragraph styles to a new document or do they have to be re-created? That would take a long time. I just want to be able to use my styles as a starting base and modify things like changing the colours within my styles.
I haven't gotten any work done in two days now - getting very frustrated as I keep having to force close InDesign and re-launch over and over.
What's your best advice for the quickest solution?

  • IDVD6 freezes while trying to load any theme

    Hey everybody,
I make DVDs all the time... and I always use iDVD to do it, but recently it started doing something strange. Every time it tries to load an iDVD theme, the whole program freezes (spinning beach ball) and I have to force quit.
I can't even create a new project, because it tries to load the default travel theme or whatever and freezes. The only way I can get iDVD to open is by opening up an old project that I have made in which I used my own image as the background.... but I really like Apple's themes and I'd like to continue using them!
    What should I do??
    Thank you!

    Hi
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
Many possible origins. Four most common:
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disc if it is less than 10Gb should raher have 25Gb
    • Hard disc is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disc (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - or rather start a new account - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.3, Mac OS X.4.10 AND QuickTime 7.2 - is OK

  • ITunes freezing while trying to transfer purchases

I just bought a new computer, and I'm trying to transfer my purchases to itunes, but it keeps freezing, and not only that, it tries to authorize the computer. I first auth'd it when I downloaded itunes and signed in. It also keeps bringing up my step mothers login, and shes thousands of miles away, and I've never logged into her computer before with my ipod, and its not authorized. I'm going crazy here, and itunes support isnt really a big help for this issue. anyone have any ideas on how I can transfer my purcahses?

Since I am not having that problem, I'm not sure it will work.
But one thing you can do is open itunes with a completely blank library. See if those purchases will transfer into a blank library. Article on making a new library:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
Make sure you only press the transfer purchases or things will go VERY wrong. But I think you know that.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
DO NOT PRESS ERASE AND SYNC.
Also - was that 3rd party program free, or something you paid for? The free ones I've tried have had some problems. If you paid for it, I would ask for support on getting those 100 lost tracks.
Just curious, which 3rd-party ipod manager was it?

  • Internet freezes while trying to print any file as PDF in Windows 7

I have Acrobat 9 Pro and I am running it on Windows 7.
When I try to print a document off the internet and select Acrobat PDF as printer, "Save As" screen appears. The printing process freezes and I am not able to edit file name. Also the entire internet also freezes. When I call up Task Manager, this shows up as "running" however, nothing happens. The only way I can use inernet is by "End Task" when the printing closes and the internet session also closes.
This is a problem I have been encountering in last three months. Before that I was able to perform this task without any problem.
Searching for the solution in database has not yielded any solution.
    Please help.
    Thanks.
    Deepa Katel

Adobe Acrobat can't freeze the entire internet.
