Freezing White Screen

Hey guys i've been looking all over the place trying to find out what's going on and i found some stuff similar but none of those tips seems to be working. So heres what's up I got a security update from the software update screen and installed it. Upon restarting my computer all i get is a blank white screen, no apple or no loading symbol. I've tried starting it in safe mode and i get the same result. I put the system disk in and checked out my disk utility verified the HD and Verified the HD said there were no problems. Tried reinstalling OSX and nothing. Deleted the partition and tried to start a new and nothing, what's happening after the install though is it'll say get disc 2 ready and then when it reboots right back to the white screen. Any Ideas what's going on here?

oh yea and once in the system disc won't come back out either

  • IMac freezing, white screen

For the last week now, my iMac 24" has been freezing up while doing small tasks - emptying trash, moving things on the desk top, iTunes songs will stutter or pause for a long time during play, opening programs... I try CmdOptEsc to get to a force quit. I cannot get there. The computer will not respond with mouse clicks or keyboard input. The computer gets very warm during all this.
I hold in the power button. It finally shuts down. When I go to start it back up, 3 times now, it has come up to a white screen (pre the apple logo showing up ...) but then does not continue to start up. I have to - again - do a hard shut down and restart. So far, upon the second try during these instances, it does start back up and loads everything.
I am waiting to get my install discs (they were missing when I got the computer back in Feb). I read on here that I should do a repair from the discs. I will try that.
Any other feedback would be greatly helpful. If I need to send this computer in - do I bring it back to the retailer I got from? Or do I need to send it back into Apple?

Hold Shift Key upom booting, this might work and if you get in, copy your Users folders off to a storage drive as soon as possible.
Reboot normally and see if that fixed your problem, look at Disk Utility > Repair
If your good with fixing Mac's you likely can fix this issue yourself, but if not your going to have to take it in for data recovery/service/repair.

  • Freezing White Screen in the beginning

I installed Snow Leopard after I bought my Mac last night, but accidentally fell asleep while it was downloading. I woke up to the initial white screen with the apple and the loading wheel. I have tried several times to restart, but it never makes it past this screen to the desktop. Is there anything I can do? What is the problem with my Mac? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    You know what's odd?
Yesterday I said it wasn't working and gave up on it. I read this message and I know I had all my animations set to 0.125 - thanks to some past forum questions you've answered- to which I double checked within InDesign.
Anyway, I went to check the saved folio preview - the one that didn't work- and now it works.
I didn't' change anything from when I gave up on it yesterday.
I guess this is answered, although I do not know what happened to the same folio that didn't work yesterday, to work today.

Hi albertspeed_66, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You have your install disks with you and used that I guess?
Without a Tiger Disk, try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
    4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

  • After installing Yosemite my Imac just goes to a white screen and freezes, it has been there for almost 36 hours any ideas as to why it is taking so long?

I have downloaded Yosemite from the App store and I attempted to upgrade from OS X 10.9.5. It is stuck on a white screen with a moveable mouse pointer but that is it. I can't get Command + L to work, so I can see any progress that is being made and I have tried to force boot it twice. Each time I force boot the machine I get a progress bar that goes about half way across and then just a blank white screen. I have read on some blogs that patience is the best procedure for this freeze but I have been waiting for almost 36 hours now and nothing is happening. One thing I want to mention is I have VMWare installed with a virtual machine of 300gigs, could this be the cause of the hangup? My 27inch IMAC is about 3 or 4 years old with a terabyte hard drive and 32gigs of ram. I have unplugged everything from the back except the network cable. Is about 36 hours reasonable for an upgrade? Is there a way to cut my losses and revert back to OS X 10.9.5?

When you start your notebook press F8 to enter Advanced boot options.
Is Repair my computer option available?
If yes choose it and press ENTER. Follow the menu on the screen and when you will see System recovery options try to use System Restore option.
Do you have some important data saved on your notebook?
If not install OS again using HDD recovery option and after 2 hours you will have clean preinstalled OS and everything will be OK again.

  • My Mac Book Pro Does not boot up, screen freezes White

My MBP is 3 Weeks old and has work perfectly until today. I plugged my iphone into the USB slot and the computer froze. I turned it off by using the on off switch. When I tried to reboot it made the start sound however the screen did not show the apple logo and it remained white. I have tried the different resets options in on the Support Page and also tried to boot with the install disc. It still starts and goes to a white screen and no further. The install disc will not eject. I have read other threads with display freezing etc. However mine will not go any further than the the white screen. It will not respond to the the boot holding the "C" option either. I did upgrade the ram to 4 gig (crucial) three days after I bought it. No problems>
    Any ideas.
    Thanks in advance

I have had to change screen name when I signed up again after having my MBP replaced today. I took it to the local Apple store and had it replaced. Fortunately I have had time machine and time capsule running since I have had it. When I get back from business trip I will reset everything. The problem was a hard disk failure. No explanation for it. The interesting part was the same time I was getting my new MBP, there were two other patrons with the same problem. One Imac (6months) and MBP (6 weeks). Both had the same symptoms as mine, play start up sound, screen white, computer would not go any further. I did get my install disc back. Just want to report what happened.
    Thanks

  • TS1440 iMac freezes, no choice but to hard shutdown, turn back on, white screen with folder and question mark appears

    Hi,
so my iMac (it's not the most recent iMac if it makes any difference, and I'm running mountain lion 10.8.3) often freezes and I do a hard shutdown as I cannot force quit the applications or click on the apple in the top left to shut it down. When I come to turn it back on, I'm greeted with a white screen, in the middle of which is the dreaded folder with the flashing question mark in it. I've noticed that just before a freeze occurs, it starts running slowly and if I try going onto Facebook for example, it says that it cannot connect to facebook.com despite the internet connection being fine as I can browse things on Google. I have also noticed that before a freeze, in Finder, in All My Files, no files show. I went through this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440 and the problem still persists. Sometimes it does load fine if I shut it down again but when I eventually open up safari, if I had been on youtube for example, it will reload the page from a few videos before and not the one I was on when it actually froze.
Any help would be hugely appreciated,
    Thanks
Side note: When it says I must choose a community in order to post this, it only gives me a choice of 3 which are Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, v10.5 Leopard, v10.6 Snow leopard, so apologies if this is posted in the wrong place - is there any way to get it moved to the correct place?

Yes,easy fix but difficult to buy, think you can get them from the states (off the top of my head about £15).When you go to the apple store, tell yhem what you suspect and they will test if it is the cable or if its the hard drive, dosn't take that long and it's free.If you know what to do you can take the back off and with strong magnifying glass you might be able to see the fray look at the bend of the cable.

  • Curve 8520 keeps freezing and going to white screen

I recently had my curve replaced after the trackpad stopped working. Now my new curve keeps freezing when I'm on the internet, the screen will get white lines across it which gradually get bigger until the whole screen is white. A reboot doesn't work unless the phone is plugged into the charger and the problem never happens when the phone is on charge.
I've tried changing the browser settings so JavaScript isn't enabled, I've also reinstalled the software and finally decided to wipe my blackberry and restored it to the file i had saved from my old curve and I'm still getting the same problem.
I'm not sure whether it's linked to the battery as it also happens when making a call if the battery is low and when I reboot my curve after it's gone to a white screen the battery has usually dropped a few bars (usually from full to 2 bars)
If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated!

Could someone please help me. I have a blackberry 8520 and I recently accidentally put ONLY the keypad in the water but luckily I read that you have to keep it in the sun for 24 hours and it worked, next my charger port broke of then I got it fixed but right after I got it fixed every time I fully charge my phone or it have 2 or more bars in like 10 or 7mins it freezes and their are these lines then it goes into a white screen. I took the battery and put the batter back in the phone worked fine but then the battery went from full to battery drained shutting down?!? What do I do??

  • White screen and freeze when trying to restart after downloading Mountain Lion 8.2 upgrade. Mac will not shutdown or restart without freezing on whitescreen.

Downloaded Mountain Lion update 10.8.2 last night. All went well until the message after the download – restart your mac to install this update. The screen went white and the machine didn’t restart. After waiting for quite a while, I shutdown using the main power button. Restarted iMac later and it opened in 10.8.1 and the iTunes icon informed me that I had an upgrade to 10.8.2 that required me to restart the machine to install the upgrade. I did this and again, the screen went white and froze when trying to restart. Rebooted thinking I might be OK to run in 10.8.1 and ignoring the update but when I tried this the Mac worked fine but when I came to shut down I got the white screen freeze thing again. Does anyone have any easy-to-follow solutions for this or will I have to shut down using the main power button every day?
    Many thanks for any suggestions.

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

My mac book pro on start up shows a white screen with a folder with a question mark in it then switches to the apple symbol with the loading bar under it but it freezes about half way. Only started to have problems since upgrading to yosemite any ideas.

I do hope you have recent backup, because it look like your hard disk is failing. You can start up in Recovery Mode, and run Disk Utility to see if the disk can be fixed:  OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

  • When clicking through a yahoo photo gallery, firefox freezes into a white screen.

On Windows 8. Problem only started with latest release of Firefox. When I click on the white screen I go back to the page that has the gallery but it reloads from the beginning. Clicking through a second time it goes further into the gallery but inevitably freezes again.
