Freezing with iTunes 7.6.1, thumping sound,especially during video playback

Hi,
Has anyone noticed a decrease in system reliability after upgrading to iTunes 7.6.1, especially during video/videopodcast playback in iTunes on their MacBook Pro's?
Specifically, the entire system locks up. Reminds me of the days of OS 7.5.5 when the mouse cursor freezes, keyboard stops responding. The only way to proceed is by holding down the power button.
This has occurred about 4 times now. The trackpad will become unresponsive, keyboard buttons such as caplocks and nu lock will be unresponsive too. Most interesting is that the sound output will loop, usually a short bit of the last audio played back over iTunes.

Here's a video I recorded showing the thumping noise. It sounds like the last audio dump before the crash looped. It's not coming from the hard drive. Definitely from the speakers.

In the video you see I had World of Warcraft up, but I don't think it is the problem, because this kind of crash has occurred while using other programs.

iTunes 7.6.1
QuickTime 7.4.1
Mac OS X 10.4.11
2.2 Ghz (MacBookPro3,1)
4GB RAM
External second monitor attached: eMachines 15" LCD
Prefrence panes additions: Application Enhancer, Divx, FinderPop, Flip4Mac WMV, Perian, Teleport, WindowShade X.
Have NOT installed Security Update 2008-001 OR AirPort Utility 5.3.1 pending user problem reports.
I never had such a complete system freeze until about the time I updated to iTunes 7.6.1. Repaired disk, permissions, cleaned up virtual memory, cache's using AppleJack.

First, create a new user account and see if you can replicate the problem on that account.
If so, start by killing all the running daemons that aren't OS X-native apps. In other words, Window Shade X, Application Enhancer, divx, etc. Quit all that junk and use Activity Monitor to make sure those apps aren't running background tasks. I'd be willing to bet that Application Enhancer is the culprit.
See if that solves the problem. If so, you can add the applications back one by one until you find the one that's causing problems.

ITunes audio quickly begins to lag behind during video playback and only gets worse as playing continues.

I've tried updating my graphics drivers, fiddling with Quicktime, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. iTunes and my drivers are all as up-to-date as possible. Videos on my computer play in other players without any audio/visual synch problem, but all of the videos I bought in the iTunes store have this problem. I guess not. That makes sense now. I was importing too quick for the longer clips. The shorter clips don't cause any trouble because they conform so fast. IPod 5G Freezes during Video Playback

iPod freezes during video playback. Does anybody else have this problem?
Usually freezes up about 10 minutes into a video, and then complety locks up. This usually requires 2 to 3 restarts untill it comes back working properly.

Mine does the same. It really only happens to me when I try to navigate thru menus when video is playing. I usually have to do a forced Reset. I truly think that introducing video on the iPod was not ready for primetime as it is very sluggish, buggy and sensitive during playbabck of video. No problems with music whatsoever but I am frustrated with the very finicky video qualities of this thing.

Ipod Touch freezes with Itunes

I have a 4th Gen Ipod Touch and have Windows Vista and after the new update of Itunes 10.4.1, it freezes Itunes when connected to my computer. Itunes works fine when the Ipod is not connected, but once I connect the Ipod the program freezes. If I disconnect my Ipod then it unfreezes and begins to work again.
I've tried restarting my computer, reinstalling Itunes, and trying all the different USB ports in my laptop since that worked once when Itunes wasn't seeing my Ipod.
I believe it is a syncing issue because the first sync that my Ipod does with Itunes is very slow and takes up to 20 mintues to finish. After the first sync everything begins to work fine and at a normal speed.
I ran a diagnostic on Itunes and it told me that everything is fine but it can't read my Ipod even when it's plugged in.
Is anyone experiencing a similar problem, or knows of a good solution?

Can't hear recorded sound during video playback

I take a lot of videos of my kids. I have noticed lately that the volume is low or muffled...you can't hear what is being said even if they are screaming 6 inches away. I thought maybe something had gotten into the microphone, etc. I recorded a voice memo and on playback i could hear what was recorded just fine at a normal level. Now once I tried to record a video of my kids talking, it played back so low that i can't hear anything and that is with the volume turned wide open. Not really sure what this issue could be but if the volume works fine on voice memo wouldn't it work the same on video playback?

Problem with mac os x lion audio mute and web video playback

I have a 15" MacBook Pro I7
Strangest thing started happening ever since I installed Adobe Masters Collection Trial Version CS6.
Randomly, and I can pinpoint exactly when, all of a sudden I will loose my sound. The muting goes off and I can't get it back on again no matter what I try. Then I loose web-video playback. Nothing will playback beyond 11 seconds. I followed all the support community advice on how to handle this situation with no luck. Resetting the SCM does nothing. The ONLY way I can fix it is with a re-install of Mac OS X Lion! I've reinstalled twice (fixed the problem both times) but the problem just keeps coming back.
I'm guessing it's a software issue of somesort but I'm not exactly sure what the problem is or how to fix it. Any advice?

No sound on any video playback after 5-10 seconds

The sound on my second generation ipad seems to disappear after 5-10 seconds of watching any video playback, although sound works when i stream to my apple TV so I'm assuming its the device that's problematic. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue and get sound from the ipad would be greatly appreciated.

Perform a "reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

How do I reduce slideshow sound during video playback in iPhoto.

The quick slideshow in iPhoto 09 is fantastic! The combination of pictures and videos blending into each other works very well.
...with one exception. When showing a video with sound the selected background music for the slideshow still plays - at a reduced volume. This reduced backgroundvolume is often not reduced enough and it interfers and destroys the experience of the video clip. I would like to find an option for reducing the backgroundmusic even further or maybe mute it during the video playback. But as soon as next pictures are shown the backgroundmusic should return again.
A very technical solution eg changing / "hacking" iPhoto files would be fine also.

That can't be done. Send in a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
If you're saving the movie as a QT file for use elsewhere and have access to iMovie HD 6 you can do that very easy. Create the movie without added music, export to Quicktime, import into iMovie HD 6 and add the music tracks as desired.

HP 620 Win 8 64bit - Please fix this HP! No sound and audio/video playback on slow motion

Please offer native audio drivers for HP 620 Windows 8 64 bit.
Problems:
- There is no working audio driver for HP 620 win 8 64 bit (Celeron Intel)
- Both audio and video playback is on slow motion (speed is like 1 sec is 3 secs).
I want to use 64 bit version so please do not suggest to do any downgrades.

Video freezing with Itunes version 7.0.1

I downloaded the newest version of Itunes. I downloaded the free episode of Battlestar Galactica the story so far. The sound is fine but the video freezes. In other words its only showing still photos of the video. Seasons one and two of BSG sometimes freezes as well but again the sound is fine. I recently subscribed to a Nasa video podcast. It plays fine with the audio as well as the video. I have a Compaq EVO D300 Minitower. It has Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. I have 512 MB Ram Memory. I tried to update my video card but could not find one on the Compaq/HP website. Can anyone help.

Album View Freezes with iTunes 11.1.2

After installing iTunes 11.1.2, any time I display the album view, iTunes freezes for between 30 seconds to 1 minute. If you are starting iTunes
with the album view as the default, it will freeze on starting as well. Also any changes when in album view will cause the freeze, e.g. adding an album, changing properties on an album, etc.
This only happens if the album view contains a large number of albums, e.g. over 2000 albums. The more albums, the longer it freezes. This didn't happen in 11.1.1, album displays on my PC were fast.
I tried deleting and rebuilding the album art cache, but that didn't help. Any thoughts?

I've spent 4 days trying to overcome the exact same problem that DougOle has described. I have a huge library, but never experienced a slow and laggy response. One click just to open an album will immediately display "Not Responding" in the Windows Task Manager and takes 30 seconds to 1 minute for execution. I'm not sure whether it's iTunes 11.1.2. or Windows 8.1, or both that's causing the problem.
Despite previously running smoothly alongside iTunes, I've uninstalled BlackBerry Link and Samsung Link, but to no avail. It made no difference at all.
I've stopped a whole bunch of processes at Start Up; this made things a little better, but clearly was not the problem. I've shut down all major components of McAfee Total Protection, but again this made no difference. I'm now at a loss.

Really weird psudo-freezing with iTunes

ANY song I play freezes for about 3 seconds at 12-14 seconds into the song, and then plays through the rest of the song fine, and when the next song comes up, 12-14 secs into it, it freezes again for about 2-3 secs, and over and over EVERY song. even if I jump to the middle of a song, about 12-14 secs later, a pause, but it's actually a freeze, cause if it's in the background and I'm working with any other program, it freezes that program, too. It's REALLY annoying and it would be a shame to not be able to use such a fine player. BTW, this has now followed me on two different motherboards, two different hard drives, and two different OS installations. ANY IDEAS?

Try contacting Avast to see of they have any work-arounds. I obtained some different DLL-Hooks from one company that were 'less aggressive' when I had a freeze issue. While it did not completely solve the issue, they were trying hard to figure it out.
You may want to see if you can direct Avast to ignore the iTunes programs that run. Some virus/spyware scanners let you designate 'safe' programs to exclude in the periodic memory scan. Ask Avast about this as well.
See if there is an Avast 'tech site' or 'chat forum'. You may find many good user tips there. McAfee had one when I was using that package, but most of us were slinging some sharp sticks and heavy rocks at the company at that time.
If Avast does not want to help, consider dumping them and moving to another program. I use TrendMicro's PC-cillin, a highly rated program. Also Zone Alarm is well respected, but I do not know how well it plays with other software programs.
Lots of options. At least you got the music running again.

ITuness 11.2.2 on MAC Freezes With iTune Radio

After updating my iTunes on my MAC to 11.2.2 it freezes when I try to play iTunes Radio. The music stops after starting the second song on the station and it freezes. Wonder if others have experienced the same issue and if there is a solution to this proble. I do have over 25,000 tunes in my iTunes library so it no longer synches with iCloud. All I have is the spininng lollopop wheel.

You don't have to update, it's just recommending that you do.
On 10.7.5 you can run up to iPhoto 9.4.3 and those updates are available.

I tried to update my iphone 4 but i got stuck with the itunes screen.
I tried to do the hard reset a couple of times nothing.
PLus itunes dont recodnize my phone and windows neither.
I removed everything apple for the laptop and reinstalled again nothing.

Tinny-sounding music during slideshow playback on TV

I have created slide shows with special effects and music. The shows play back perfectly on my imac, laptop, and ipad. However, when I attempt to play the shows on my TV, some of the music sounds very tinny. What causes this, and how can I remedy the problem?

If you want the visualizer to play druing the music just trun it on... be sure to set the tv screen up as the screen to use for iTunes.
