French CHM - So Close...

I have my English CHM and French CHM.  If I switch my Windows Display Language to French, I see the buttons are translated to French - this is great.
Now, I have two little problems.
1.     The Window caption is stuck at HTML Help.  I've set my project language to French and my display language but it doesn't work.  According to this post about RH7, the Window Caption couldn't be fixed, so has anyone had any luck with RH8?
http://forums.adobe.com/message/963109#963109
2.     Advanced Search in French still displays AND OR NEAR NOT.  I realize that they're essentially emulating SQL keywords but I do find it a bit strange that ET OU PRÈS PAS isn't shown and when the search is submitted, they could be replaced with the English equivalents before the search is processed.  I can't enable the feature because it's unilingual.

After installing 10.4 my mail for some reason is in french or something close to it. I have checked International in the preferences. All other applications seam fine. Any thoughts anyone. Thanks

  • French in Pages

I have French as a subject, and I was planning to use Pages to help me with it. So I have a couple of problems:
    1. Pages language set to French, French words still come up wrong, although they are right.
    2. Unable to get speech to say the French, just say it like an English person sounding-out the word
    3. How do I get the accents? I have a new iMac keyboard, and in word i knew, but I can't find any support docs on it.
    Thanks.

    Hi, it's really easy
Accents are no problem if you select French as one of your input languages in System Prefernces (go to International and follow instructions).
Make sure you check Show Input Menu in menu bar, at the bottom of dialogue window in International preferences. You get a selection of little flags working like drop down menu. If a British or American flag is showing, click and you will see French flag down, scroll to select it and you are in French keyboard.
To see the keyboard layout, scroll further down the flag/language selection menu and choose show keyboard viewer. A little image of the AZERTY layour opens, you can click on the letters you need to type in French.
Use keyboard short-cut Command+Space to switch between English and French. Keyboard shortcut has to be activated - selected in System Preferences under Keyboard-Mouse because by default Command+Space opens Spotlight.
I am in France and use a French keyboard, but work in English and Russian. My children use two other languages for school work. So we constantly switch between languages.
Careful with using other keyboard shortcuts - for example Command+Z (undo) in French environment will close your document - Command+W.
Re French spellcheck flick through the pages of this forum - a few days ago there was a posting about this which works well.

  • Help with "Help File"

    Hi all,
I have an almost-complete application to which I'm adding a help file. I am using the a VI called "Online Help file" or some thing to that effect (I would check but this internet station isn't my work station so I don't have access here...). I have created an HTML based help file using "Windows HTML workshop." This file opens correctly on any XP or 2000 system I open it with. However, I created a VI to open the help file when the "Help" tag on the menu bar is activated and this seems to work on my LabView developement system, but not on other systems (after having installed the application). No errors are posted, the help file simply doesn't open. I'm beggining to think that I may be missing some additional installers that I didn't realize were necessary for this application. I currently install LV8.2RTE and the VISA Run-time 4.0. These are the only installers I have been including. Do I need other installers for the help file to work correctly (keeping in mind that this VI works flawlessly in the application on the developement system, but not on other PCs)? If not could someone shed some light on my problem? Thanks a bunch!
    Ryan
PS: If needed I can try to post some pics.

    Hello,
Ok ok... only 4 stars for that effort... let's see if we can do better
First, I see the same behavior upon closing the application I originally attached - the chm also closes
Apparently what's happening is that when we use the online help control VI, the chm file is opening in the calling application's context, in this case the LabVIEW app/runtime engine instance.
We can get around this by making a call which will open the chm file explicity in Windows - we can do this from LabVIEW with the command exec VI.
I have attached the code this time as well - everything is zipped up (lvproj, vi, & exe).  You'll notice I have used a diagram disable structure so you can see both implementations - the previous one is disabled of course.
I hope THIS is what you were looking for
    Best Regards,
    JLS
PS - if you want your LabVIEW application to close by itself after it completes execution, you can use the Exit LabVIEW function at the end of the VI and rebuild the exe.

  • TOC Auto-Sync and Custom Buttons

    I have two CHM files.
One contains English content, the other has French content.  We're okay with having to change Windows display language to French in order to see the localized interface.  It would be great to force it to French without having to do that, but it's better than nothing.
I have a handy dandy little javascript in my master page to flip between topics in the two CHM files.  This is where my problems begin.
My flipping back and forth works great but the TOC does not auto-sync despite me having that checkbox enabled on the windows in both projects.
Then I added a Custom Button in each project (let's call it Cat in English and Chat in French) that points to a Redirect Topic (using the meta refresh method) to launch a Remote Topic.  The redirection works great but again, the TOC does not auto-sync.
Getting back to my English/French setup... let's say I'm in the English project CHM, I change my display language to French, all of the interface buttons change to French except my Custom Button which is still "Cat".  From what I've read, I'm guessing there's no way around this?  I'd rather not have to put "Cat/Chat" for the Custom Button text or leave it as is where it will stick out like a sore thumb unless my display language always matches my language content.
Any suggestions or am I stuck with what I have?

You have two different CHM files, right? One in English and one in French.
    Correct... one English, one French.
    Yay! I understood!
I'm assuming your JavaScript allows displaying the matching topic from the other language? If so, isn't the matching topic simply replacing the topic that was there before? Here's where it gets real fuzzy. The TOC should already be synced to the topic. Are you saying it loses focus or something?
My javascript determines the matching topic from the other CHM and changes the window location to the other topic.  If I'm in the English help, on an English topic and click my French link, the link opens the corresponding French topic but my TOC never changes to the French TOC - it's still showing the English one.
Okay, so that's not really a synchronization issue. In my view, synchronization means expanding and highlighting the page in the TOC so the user may see where they were.
If there are two projects, one in English and one in French, each project would have its own Custom Button definition, right? So why not enter Chat in the French project?
I would have Chat in the French project for the Custom Button... the confusion would be if I open the French CHM while my Windows display language is English or change my Windows display language to French and open the English CHM.  In those scenarios, the interface buttons will be correct but the Custom Button text will match the content language rather than the interface language - that's when it will look wrong.
    Gotcha.
Personally, assuming I'm correctly understanding this setup, I would think you are somewhat asking for trouble if you allow a click within a topic to change the language. I would think it to be a better solution just to keep the user inside the same help file. Choose the language at the beginning if you like, but remain in that language until the file is closed.
Ah, but the end users want on-the-fly translation by topic without having to open the other CHM and find the topic all over again.  This is CSH, so the user may very well have gotten directly to a topic and would like to see the other language immediately.  Essentially, it should be as though the user closed the current CHM, opened the other CHM and located the exact same topic - instantaneously
I'm thinking that perhaps a possible answer would involve using an HTML Help Shortcut control to launch a new instance of the viewer. Open the CHM for the correct language and display the relevant topic. What I think you will have issues with here is that the CHM viewer adapts to the language of the operating system I believe. So I'm not sure the TOC will know how to dynamically interpret you want French or English. Maybe it will based on the language choice in RoboHelp. But I'd be surprised if it worked that way.
Hopefully Pete Lees will see this thread and pop in to offer some other insight.
Pffft Pffft tap tap tap... is this thing on? Earth to Pete. Calling Pete. Pete, are you there and monitoring this frequency?    ... - - -  .... ---.--

  • Manually select / deselect phone provider

I am living close to the border Germany France and since the Iphone 4s I have a problem with the iphone that neither the Apple support nor the change of the phone (to the Iphone 5) could solve:
I am manually switched to my german provider "Vodafone.de"
Without changing anything the phone sometimes connects to a french provider when close to the french border, in this case of the screenshot "SFR"
How can I prevent the phone of selecting a certain provider? I thought this is done by manuall selecting Vodafone.de but obviously this is not the case.

    Hi Vineet,
Please help me I am unable to solve it.

  • When I close the CHM how do I get the application it was launched from to regain focus?

I am developing a CHM for an application that runs on
Windows. When I launch the Help (CHM) from the application, then
close the Help, I want the application that I launched the Help
from to regain focus. (I would expect this is what most people
would want to happen, and this is what happens with Microsoft
generated Help files.) However with my RoboHelp CHMs this does not
    happen.
Does anyone know how I can fix this behaviour? Is there a
setting in RoboHelp that I need to change?
My R&D application developer has spoken with Microsoft
and they suggested the problem was with my RoboHelp CHM, they
suggested trying the following process with one of their CHMs and
then with one that I created using RoboHelp, and they are correct
in that my RoboHelp CHM is behaving differently. Here's the
procedure if you'd like to try it:
    - Open a Windows Explorer window.
    - Navigate to the c:\WINDOWS\Help folder (or equivalent on
    your PC).
    - Double-click on the iexplore.chm file. Note that the help
file opens up in a viewer window.
    - Dismiss the viewer by clicking on the close button (X).
    - Note that focus is returned to the Windows Explorer window.
Repeat the above experiment, but navigate to where you have a
RoboHelp CHM file. I find that when I dismiss the help viewer
window, focus is NOT returned to the Windows Explorer window. Do
you see the same thing with your RoboHelp CHMs? If not, what have
you set to cause the application that it was launched from to
    regain focus?
I really appreciate any help you can give me in resolving
    this issue.
    Best Regards, Sharon

    Hi Sharon
Hmmm, where exactly *IS* the focus in your tests after
closing the RoboHelp generated .CHM file? I just tested and saw the
same behavior regardless of whether it was a Microsoft .CHM or a
RoboHelp HTML created .CHM. Each time, the focus was returned to
    Windows Explorer.
I do know that the manner in which your developers open a
.CHM can vary. For example, your developer can specify that a
particular tab have focus, such as the Index or TOC, while simply
double-clicking will result in the last opened tab being the active
    tab.
Wish I had more to offer here, but I'm not seeing the same
behavior as you are. I do know there are some extended settings for
your window, but I'm doubtful that's the answer here.
Also, I'm not too sure how much stock I'd put in something a
Microsoft call center stated. Just the nature of call centers. Some
folks that staff them are good and skilled, some are a bit, shall
we say, lacking. This is truly "Luck of the draw".
    Sincerely... Rick

  • CHM buttons are not localized in a French project (shows English Contents, Index, Search, Print, Hide buttons)

I opened an old WinHelp project into my new RoboHelp 7. When
I generate the CHM, even with the Project Settings in RoboHelp set
to French and running in a French Windows operating system (MS
Windows XP Pro 2002 SP 2), the CHM output is still in English. The
buttons display in English (Contents, Index, Search, Print, Hide
buttons). The title bar of the CHM also says "HTML
Help" even though the project title in the Project
    Settings is "Aide en ligne...".
My Windows Regional Settings through the Control Panel -
Regional Options tab is set French (France). On the Languages tab I
under Text Services and Input Languages, Details button, I selected
French (France) French. On the Advanced tab I selected French. Then
    I rebooted.
On the language bar on my Task pane, I selected FR. The CHM
    still displays in English.
Please help! I have to produce 4 CHMS in languages other than
    English today.
    Thanks!

GinaL, would you be able to give us an update? Did the CHM
files look ok on a PC with a true French OS installed?
To avoid having to rewrite everything, I've written the
following info/instructions for my team -- though I'm not yet sure
    they're 100% correct:
After I reported this issue to Adobe, they worked on the
problem for several days. They even sent me a new
HtmSingleSourceHtmlHelp.dll file that was supposed to solve the
problem. But it didn't work correctly. No matter what contortions
we put ourselves through, we couldn't get both of these items
correct in the CHM file at the same time, namely:
Index compiled in correct alphabetical order accdg to the
    language of the help project.
Correctly translated help title showing in the caption,
regardless of the user's Windows regional settings. (For example,
we wanted "FORMS-Hilfe zu FORMS 5-3" to appear as the caption of
the German version of FORMS help, even if our regional settings
    were set to English.)
I think we'd all agree that the index has to be in
alphabetical order. So from what I've seen, this is what we have to
do when compiling a non-English version of help using RH7:
    1. Set up the project with the foreign name.
    2. Set the language in the project settings. And in the
Project Settings dialog, click Advanced and check out the LNG File
tab to make sure it's using a translated version.
    3. Ensure that the Window Caption setting is correct in each
window included in the project. (On RoboHelp's Project tab, open
the Windows folder, double-click each window in turn, and check the
    settings.)
    4. Set the Language setting in the HHP file to Language=[hex
value for that language]. I found a bunch of them listed on this
web page. Someone else might be able to find a better source:
    https://svn.origo.ethz.ch/scoop/es_scoop_60/library/i18n/locale/nls/i18n_nls_lcid_tools.e
    5. Change your Windows regional settings to the same language
as the help project. (Reboot if prompted.)
    6. Recommended, for safety's sake: Delete the CPD file.
    7. Open the project and compile using RH7.
    8. Check the index's sort order -- is it in alphabetical
order according to the language of the project?
    9. Check the help caption -- make sure it's not "HTML Help".
Note: Any customized buttons in your CHM should appear
correctly translated, but other buttons (Contents, Index, Search)
still appear in English -- at least they do on my PC, even though I
did step 2 above. We need to check whether those buttons appear
correctly when the PC is actually running a true foreign version of
Windows, and not just with temporarily adjusted Windows settings.
OR -- is anyone else able to get these to appear translated in the
    CHM file?
Does anyone have anything to add? Other solutions? Easier
    procedures? Better results to report?
    Thank you
    Eileen

  • Cannot Compile CHM -- Message says to close all HTML Help windows

Running TCS 1.3 with latest patches.
Single source project - output to HTML Help (.chm).
When I try to compile, I receive the following message:
"Cannot create compiled file. It may be open in another window. Please close all HTML Help windows and try again."
I don't have any HTML Help windows open. Shutting down RH and restarting does not resolve the problem. I have to shut down the computer, which is a serious hassle, before I can compile again. I do work from a network directory, which may be causing it, but I'd like to know if there is a process I can kill from the Windows Task Manager that would allow me to compile without having to restart my computer. I don't see any process that identifies itself as something I can kill to resolve this issue.
    Anyone?

    Hi there
That message normally indicates you have launched the .CHM file that you are trying to create. The first step of the process is to destroy the existing .CHM in preparation for building the new one. Just as you would need to destroy a house on a lot where you wish to build a new one.
If your .CHM is on a network drive, another user may have it open. (yet another good reason for working locally)
If your .CHM is on your local drive, RoboHelp believes you have it open. If you press Alt+Tab, you may see a blue up arrow. That will indicate the running CHM file.

  • Adobe RoboHelp 8 has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I am trying to generate a project as WebHelp and after about 10 minutes of generating, the following error message appears: "Adobe RoboHelp 8 has encountered a problem and needs to close."
I am able to generate all other projects, just not this project.
This project is not on the network. It used to be on the network, but I moved it to my local directory awhile ago.
I tried restarting the computer. I tried generating from another computer and that did not work either.
I tried repairing the CPD through Microsoft Access. (I am not able to rename the CPD, because when I do that, almost all of my topics appear as broken links, so I use Microsoft Access to repair the CPD instead).
Is there anything else I can check or try?
    Thanks,
    Debbie

Thanks. I didn't see anything in the .HHP.
However, I think I'm getting closer to finding the solution (at least I
    think I've found the problem).
I have various conditional tags. One is called "uni2" and one is called
    "Remove_in_uni2".
When I generate with "uni2" excluded and "Remove_in_uni2" included, the
    WebHelp generates.
When I switch them ("Remove_in_uni2" excluded and "uni2" included), then I
    get the error.
I tried removing the underscores - didn't work.
    I tried renaming it to RemoveIn18 - didn't work.
    Any suggestions, anyone?
    Thanks,
    Debbie

The CPD is created from RoboHelp's internal files so a repair will not
necessarily fix the issue as Access will not know what to look for. A
rebuild is what is needed and it should not result in the broken links you
are seeing. However, that can happen and I have seen it. After repairing
the links, I had no further problems. Try generating a CHM first as if that
will create, it may make changes to the HHP that prevent the broken links.
Also take a look in the HHP for any obvious path errors.
Do you have many folders in the project? If not, creating a new project
should not be too painful as you can import all the topics in a folder in
    one hit.

  • Hyperlinks to XLS, DOC, and PDF files that are included in a .chm file work intermittently.

    SUMMARY
Hyperlinks to XLS, DOC, and PDF files that are included in a
.chm file (and the Baggage Files) only work intermittently. The
only solution appears to be deleting the Temporary Internet Files.
    PROBLEM
    1. I place the XLS, DOC, or PDF file in the Windows
sub-directory that corresponds to the RoboHelp project sub-folder
where the topic in which I’ll place the hyperlink exists.
    2. I open the help project in RoboHelp HTML.
    3. I right-click on the project’s Baggage Files
sub-folder that corresponds to the Windows sub-directory in which I
placed the XLS, DOC, or PDF file (in step 1).
    4. I import the XLS, DOC, or PDF file.
    5. I open the topic in which I’m going to place the
    hyperlink in the WYSIWYG editor.
    6. I “drag and drop” the Baggage File into the
topic (in the WYSIWYG editor) to create a link to it.
    7. I save the changes and then generate HTML (.chm) help.
    8. I open the .chm file and click the hyperlink. The XLS,
DOC, or PDF file may or may not open.
    9. When the hyperlink works correctly, for DOC and XLS files,
a “File Download – Security Warning” dialog box
appears asking, “Do you want to open or save this
file?”. The buttons that are available are
    “Open”, “Save”, and “Cancel”.
These buttons work then as one would expect. (When the hyperlink
works correctly for a PDF file, it simply opens the PDF file in a
new window; there’s no prompt to save, open, or cancel.)
    10. When a hyperlink does NOT work, for DOC, XLS, and PDF
files, no dialog box or other visual message is displayed. Instead,
the sound that is associated with the “Exclamation”
program event is played (the “Windows XP
Exclamation.wav” file is the WinXP default).
    Other Notes:
    - The hyperlinks ALWAYS work when I view a topic using the
“View Selected Item” function (Ctrl+W) in the RoboHelp
    HTML project.
    - Once a hyperlink stops working, it will not start working
again until I delete all the Temporary Internet Files.
    - A hyperlink will stop working even if Internet Explorer
(iexplore.exe) is closed the entire time.
    WORKAROUND
Through trial and error, I have discovered that if a
hyperlink stops working, I can get it to work again using the
    following steps:
    1. Leave the .chm file open.
    2. Open Internet Explorer.
    3. Click Tools>Internet Options….
    4. From the “Internet Options” dialog box, select
    the “General” tab.
    5. Under the “Temporary Internet Files” section,
    click the “Delete Files…” button.
    6. From the “Delete Files” dialog box, select
“Delete all offline content” and then click
“OK”. The files are deleted and the “Delete
    Files” dialog box closes.
    7. Click “OK” to close the “Internet
    Options” dialog box.
    8. Without closing Internet Explorer and without re-starting
the .chm file, all the hyperlinks that didn’t work before
    will now work.

    REQUEST FOR HELP
I really want to include certain PDF, DOC, and XLS files in
their native format in a .chm file. However, I need a better
solution to my problem than the one I discovered. What I really

  • When I open Pages, it opens all previous documents. But I cannot close them:if I try, the program crashes

    Hello everyone.
Since middle february, Pages has not been working properly.
When I start the program, it opens by default a blank page. That was fine until recently. I would simply close it and open my desired document. But now I cannot close the blank document: if I do it, the program crashes.
I have bypassed the problem by simply minimizing the blank one and going along with my own documents... Unfortunately now the problem has increased, as it will not close any document.
Therefore when I start the program, it will re-open all the documents and it will crash all the time I try to close them.
Also, It will not let me save them or turn themm to PDF.
    What can I do ?
I have also removed the previous software and I bought (again) Pages on the App Store last week... results: NONE!! it still won't work.
    HEEEELLLPPPPP
    thank you
    jack

    Hello
I was warned of your problem by Jerrold.
As I'm really besy this evening, I didn't read carefully the available message.
What you get is a Lion's feature named "Resume".
If you dislike me (as I do but I don't feel useful to rant against it) there are several ways to get rid of it.
    (1) In theory, it's sufficient to uncheck a box in the General System PrefPane.
I wrote « in theory » because, at least in the French version this feature is broken.
    (2) Some third party tools are delivered to rule the feature's behavior for each application.
Here are two free ones :
    Lion Tweaks ( http://ifredrik.com/applications/ )
    TinkerTool ( http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerTool.html )
    (3) As none of them apply on my French System, I designed a home made brute force tool.
    --{code}
    --[SCRIPT don't resume]
    if my parle_Anglais() then
display dialog "What to do ?" buttons {"Cancel", "Restart", "Shutdown"} default button 3 cancel button 1
set |éteindre| to (button returned of result) is "Shutdown"
    else
display dialog "Que faire ?" buttons {"Annuler", "Redémarrer", "Éteindre"} default button 3 cancel button 1
set |éteindre| to (button returned of result) is "Éteindre"
    end if
(path to library folder from user domain as text)
    tell application "System Events"
delete every folder of folder (result & "Saved Application State")
              if |éteindre| then
      shut down
              else
      restart
              end if
    end tell
    --=====
    on parle_Anglais()
return (do shell script "defaults read 'Apple Global Domain' AppleLocale") does not start with "fr_"
    end parle_Anglais
    --=====
    --[/SCRIPT]
    --{code}
Save this script as as Script and store it in the folder :
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:
On my machine, thanks to FastScripts, I attached a shortcut to this script.
    So, when I press cmd +option + ctrl + Q I get this dialog :
On an English System, the buttons are :
    Cancel, Restart, Shutdown.
When we trigger the last two, the folder storing the dats required by the system to apply « Resume » is emptied so when we restart the machine no extraneous window is opened.
I didn't described the way to reach the folder named Scripts.
I'm sur that Jerrold will do that with a better English.

  • RH8 HTML suddently generating truncated CHMs

I typically compile a new.chm file for my project once or twice a week. Yesterday, the chm I generated  came in at 1975 kb. The previous one, created three days earlier for the same project, was 47,489 KB.
RH displays no error messages and does not crash. However, when I attempt to open the .chm from its network file location, IE tells me that "This program cannot display the webpage." The same message appears when I attempt to open the file from my desktop.
In studying the knowledge base, I thought that perhaps that the microsoft html help.ssl file might have been corrupted. So I used RoboServer 3 > History, to roll back that file to the date on which I last created chm successfully. I updated my version locally. But to no avail.
I created a new SSL layout and generated a chm with it. No luck there either.  I've rebooted multiple times in the process.
My version is fully updated. I tried generating a webhelp file. That worked out just fine. My file name standard has been consistent: JOH 1.13__numeric_date.chm.
My project has a couple of broken links, but I don't imagine that could cause this issue.
    Suggestions would be appreciated.

    Update to my preceding response...
After many additional hours spent reading forum posts, I took advantage of three suggestions that I found -- successfully. I was able to generate a new .chm without additional issues after implementing the following steps:
    1. I changed the output location to my desktop. The idea was to shorten the length of the path.
    2. I made sure the output name corresponded to the project name. I had previously used an abbreviated file name for the output.
    3. I cleared approximately 10 of 12 broken links.
I subsequently checked out everything in my project and checked it back in to RoboServer. This may have been pointless, but I wanted to be sure that all updated content was stored.
Parenthetically, after fixing the broken links and saving the project, RH crashed. This occurred many times before I figured out that there was a glitch involved, thanks to a post on Peter Grainge's website under RH > RH8. He identifies the issue and proposes a workaround that involves a fix from within the Index Editor. The only problem I see with this is that my broken links have nothing to do with indexed keywords. In fact, I haven't even built an index yet.
I have not previously had this sort of problem when fixing a broken link and I would welcome clarification of the issue and the fix.
Many thanks to all who have tackled these issues previously and posted their results.
    end of update
    Beginning of original post:
The chm is generated on my C drive. It won't open whether published to the a network file or to C:/...ssl. I am able to successfully open chms created on or prior to 1_15_10, from the network or my C:/ drive.
    My local path is C:/Documents and Settings\gmichaels\My Documents\RoboServer Projects\Javelina Online Help_13\!ssl!\Microsoft_HTML_Help.
Yesterday, the output view reported: Fatal Error: Unexpected error from Microsoft HTML compiler.  Finished compiling HTMLHELP in 482 sec(s)  Compilation complete.
I downloaded all pertinent MS updates last afternoon. However, that doesn't seem to have made a difference. Today, I find that RH closes itself without warning at the end of the compilation process.
I know about network related issues, but I don't believe that applies here. The truncated size of the chm file and the fact that it won't open seem to be related issues as they occur only in tandem and only since 1_19 (the first time).
    Thanks much

  • RH 7 - How can I get .swf movies to work inside CHM output on Windows 7

    Hi RHelpers,
I'm using RoboHelp Html (RH 7, latest patch) on my Win 7 64-bit machine to provide a HtmlHelp (CHM) output.
Now that we're close to releasing, I've been doing some testing, and I've noticed that my SWF movie files do not play inside of Windows 7 when viewing them inside of the CHM file. It keeps asking to install the Adobe Flash Player. But I've already clicked Yes several times to that message, and it still doesn't play the file. I've even manually downloaded and installed it as an administrator, restarted my system and still no go. It just shows a red X in the container where the movie should be playing.
However, viewing the same topic inside of RH's preview window (or inside a browser) seems to work fine. Also, I've copied and pasted the problem CHM onto a virtual machine running 32-bit Vista, and the movies display fine there. This tells me it's something to do with how how compiled files are handled in 64-bit environments.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions out there?

    I see the answer here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/781427?tstart=2
Also I verified that our software does use the 32-bit hh.exe so I'm only seeing this when running the help by itself, outside of our software. That's good news.

  • How can I specify the default tab in a CHM Output?

My company uses CHM-based help for some of its products. We build the CHM files from RoboHelp 9, and while these CHM files don't really have a full Index attached to them, the Index tab shows up in the output anyway. Unfortunately, we are suddenly seeing that when the CHM file is launched from our program, the Index tab is displayed by default. We'd rather have the Contents tab be the default look, especially considering that the Index does not exist.
I have poked around into how you can specify a default tab for a CHM file, and the only information I have found suggests that using a CHM file creates a file (HH.dat) that specifies which tab should be displayed on a user-by-user basis, and that the last tab displayed when you close the CHM should be the first one displayed when you re-open it. While this is true if you open the CHM independent from the product, when you launch it from our program, it's all Index, all the time.
So, my question is: How can I specify the default tab for a CHM file? Or, failing that, how can I excise the Index tab from my CHM output.

    Hi there
This will be something up to your application developer to resolve. When s/he issues the call to open the CHM, there are parameters that may be used to always open with the desired tab "in front".
Point your developer to the link below and advise that s/he is most likely interested in the section titled: Programming Tips.
