French-English Language/Dictionary apps

I will be studying in France from January to April and I will have limited access to the internet where I will be staying. Since I will not have access to internet dictionaries and conjugators, can anyone recommend a French-English and English-French dictionary application? Is anyone aware of one that can conjugate French verbs as well? (definitely not necessary, but would be helpful...)
Thank you,
Adam

This are the best option's you have:
Ultralingua French-English Dictionary OSX/Universal Binary
Accio English-French Dictionary
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem.

  • Italian to English language dictionary

I use Snow Leopard with the standard English dictionary installed.
I'm learning Italian at present, and it would be very useful if I could add an additional dictionary (Italian to English), which can allow me to highlight a word in Safari, right-click on it and look up its meaning in English.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
    Thanks.

Thanks for that info!  Not Italian - English but still valuable.  I was able to download it by clicking on the alternative 2 download site.

  • Needs dictionary app.

I don't have a problem, but I am buying my wife a new ipod touch and she's going to follow some French-Arabic classes and she needs an electronic dictionary, I suggested her to use an ipod touch and get a multi-language dictionary app.
Any idea what would be a good app to purchase?

You should try the free versions of the application on the app store for electronic dictionary, before you buy them. If you find a particular application you might be interested in, search the web for reviews on that app which you could find hundreds of that appplication(you are looking at).

  • Invalid server response PONS French-English dictionary

    Hi!

Can anyone put me straight on this problem.
I have downloaded and installed PONS Compact Dictionary French-English-French v7.1 on my BB Curve 9300 Software v6.
When I try to load the application I get a white screen which reads * Empty * then a box which reads ' ! Invalid server response '
I have paid the full price for this through BlackBerry App World but I cannot use the app. What should I do?
Looking forward to a helpful response.

    Hello Neal,
A very long, very entertaining and very interesting debate already took place at least once in these forums (fora),
    about this question,
and more specifically because one has to take an American accent in Speech Recognition.
I think the issue here is one for Enhancements Requests, really. No imperialism, no insulting intelligences...
Apple is an American brand, that's how, in my opinion, everything comes from a US English basis.
Like Terminal and programmers default keyboard layout (US), etc.
Then some GUI options and programs may be implemented, and we can already enjoy plenty of them, although there's not enough of course.
    Your example, Dictionary:
Of course it would be nice to be able to choose between different online services (also in other languages, like in French between Le Robert and Le Larousse, and perhaps a third one from Québec), as even within the only British English, there must be several equally interesting options...
    Same for accents (Speech):
It would be such an achievement, to be able to speak other languages,
but also to be able to speak, say, French, in a User Account that's set in English,
    and of course,
to be able to choose between several different accents too, within each language!
    Dreaming, dreaming...
Seriously, your enhancement idea would be so welcome!
Please send it to: Mac OS X Feedback
    Until then,
    enjoy your US Mac!
    Axl

  • Chinese English dictionary.app

    Hi guys,
Is there a way for me to have the builtin Chinese dictionary display definitions in English in addition to Chinese? It doesn't really make sense from language leaning perspective that an unfamiliar word is defined using the same language with other unfamiliar words, I wish apple allows us to choose the builtin dictionaries. Is there a way to edit the dictionary.app so that the Chinese dictionary carries English definitions as well?

You can ask Apple to add new features via

  • How do I get a French- English dictionary on the ios7 dictionary widget?

I have the French dictionary loaded, but I would like a French-English one to quickly define the words I'm looking for. Anyone know how to do this?

Spell Check is controlled by the language that is assigned to the text at the character level, not by your choice of dictionary in the prefs -- that simply tells ID which dictionary to use when more than one is installed for an assigned language.

  • Has FM 9 or 10 a better working dictionary for non-english languages?

I am using FM 7 (latest update) on Windows Vista.
As it is now, there's a limit of how many characters a word can have for it to be entered into the dictionary. We here in Sweden have 3 letters that are not present in the English language, å, ä and ö. In the dictionary these letters are replaced with 4 (!) characters each:
    å is replaced by \x8c
    ä is replaced by \x8a
    ö is replaced by \x9a
If I have a long word containing a couple of those letters, it wont be added into the dictionary. That means that it doesn't alert me of misspellings and it hyphenates totally crazy. The only way to get around the crazy hyphenation is to add the - manually, and that is just not good at all. If I then add or remove words before there's a 100 % chance that I will miss removing the -.
We are thinking about upgrading to version 9 or 10. Is there a solution for this there? Is there still a limit? Don't they understand that other dictionaries are used and that some languages have longer words than the English language?

    Lena,
The workaround is a bit ugly because you don’t get any useful feedback in the marker dialog, but it works. The following images (made with FrameMaker 7.2) show the marker dialog before and after clicking "Edit Marker"
and the appearance in a List Of Markers document with visible special characters in a wide and in a narrow column.
In the wide column you can see the special symbol which is the placeholder for the discretionary hyphen. If this does not appear, try to reenter \x04 in the dialog.

  • How to switch sqlplus language output e.g. french- english ?

When I enter a command in SQL@plus then result comments (e.g

are displayed. However on some installations they are
written in another language like french or german.
The "main" installation menues and labels (e.g. GUI in http//127.0.0.1) are in english.
I am talking only about the comments from SQL*Plus.
Is there a way to switch to english language comments ?

    SQL> exec null

    SQL> alter session set nls_language=american;
    Session altered.
    SQL> exec null
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.NLS_LANG can also be defined at the OS level to american_america
