Frequence echantillionage et saturation buffer

voici ma première question :
Saturation buffer

erreur 200279
Attempted to read samples that are no longer avaible; The request sample was previously avaible, but has since been overwritten.
Increasing the buffer size or reading the daten more frequently may correct the problem.
Voilà j'crois comprendre le contenu du message, mais j'n'arrive pas à modifier les valeurs des buffers
En vous remerciant

  • Increase counter frequency performance

    Hello,
I want to increase the frequency performance for my period counter. I'm using a USB-6210 board and I have the vi that is attached - period measurement.
The problem is that I want to measure the period for a 8MHz signal (I know that is a lot, I would be happy even with 4MHz). The source freq for the counter is 80Hz. If the frequency is high, the accuracy is not very critical for me.
    1. I get most of the time the error: "Buffer overwritten". I've seen that I can get rid of it if I decrease the frequency, but I don't want to do that . I think that another solution would be to increase the number of points that are read. I noticed that the maximum buffer size is around 9000 points (I've read it with DAQmxRead Property Node).
    2. Another fact that I've noticed is that in the While loop where I'm doing the Data Reading I should have no other operations or delay. Is this true, or just a coincidence?
    3. There is a strange behavior: if I start the acquisition and I have at the input high frequency, I get the error (Buffer overwritten) almost instant. If I start acquisition at low freq I can increase it even at high freq.
    4. There is another strange behavior: if the input frequency is high the frequency and the measured period increase and decrease togheter. I think that this is caused by alias. Where can I find some more information about the board limits?
If you can give me some other advice/hints/links/pdfs I would be very thanksful.
Maybe there are some small mistakes in the VI. I made it only to get a feeling of what I'm doing. I didn't chek it with the hardware.
    Regards,
    Paul

    Jochen,
thanks for this information. This was what I was looking for some while.
I still have a question related to this topic: I've read that the maximum size of FIFO is 1024 samples. What does it mean?
[JK:] The FIFO is the hardware buffer on the board. In general the PCI-bus or the USB should have enough bandwidth to transfer the data as fast as they are acquired by the device, but in fact there are sometimes some latencies that require some local memory on the board. That's what is called FIFO in this context.
This FIFO is the same with the: Available Samples Pro Channel from Read Property node?
[JK:]  No. This value refers to the buffer in the PC's memory that is allocated for the acquisition operation.
I've noticed that when the value for this property is passing 9000 I get the error with Overwritten Buffer. If it is like this why do I reach more than 9000 samples pro channel? Please take a look at the attachement (test1.png - screenshoot with the values / speed_test_x - the VI that I used for this measurement).
[JK:] The buffer size is not limited to 9000 values. NI-DAQmx allocates memory automatically by default. If you like you can increase the buffer size manually.
Which is the relation between maximum numbers of sample that can be read with the Counter 1D Read NSamples? In my VI there are N=250 samples. Can I increase it in order to avoid the error? If yes, which should be the maximum limit, 1024 ?
[JK:] You can increase the number of values to read up to the size of the buffer (not of the FIFO). A reasonable value is up to 50% of the buffer size, but this is not a strict rule. Anything between 10% and 90% could make sense, depending on the timing requirements of your application.
    Paul
PS: I've hope that I translated the LabView terms in the right way. I have my LabView in german (but I don't know german, so it is a nightmare for me )

  • Doing Buffered Event count by using Count Buffered Edges.vi, what is the max buffer size allowed?

I'm currently using Count Buffered Edges.vi to do Buffered Event count with the following settings,
Source : Internal timebase, 100Khz, 10usec for each count
gate : use the function generator to send in a 50Hz signal(for testing purpose only). Period of 0.02sec
the max internal buffer size that i can allocate is only about 100~300. Whenever i change both the internal buffer size and counts to read to a higher value, this vi don't seem to function well. I need to have a buffer size of at least 2000.
    1. is it possible to have a buffer size of 2000? what is the problem causing the wrong counter value?
    2. also note that the size of max internal buffer varies w
ith the frequency of signal sent to the gate, why is this so? eg: buffer size get smaller as frequency decrease.
    3. i'll get funny response and counter value when both the internal buffer size and counts to read are not set to the same. Why is this so? is it a must to set both value the same?
    thks and best regards
    lyn

    Hi,
I have tried the same example, and used a 100Hz signal on the gate. I increased the buffer size to 2000 and I did not get any errors. The buffer size does not get smaller when increasing the frequency of the gate signal; simply, the number of counts gets smaller when the gate frequency becomes larger. The buffer size must be able to contain the number of counts you want to read, otherwise, the VI might not function correctly.

  • Why I like Aperture

I need to preface this by saying that no application is perfect for everyone. Different people have different workflows, different post-processing needs, and different priorities. I'm not saying Aperture is perfect for everyone. Nor should anyone else say Aperture is useless. It may be useless to them, but not to everyone.
I shoot mostly fashion and advertising type work. I'm a pretty serious amateur, in that I have good gear, and I'm very serious about photography, but I have a day job doing something else (security architecture, which I also love). I shoot only RAW as it gives me way more latitude if I want to adjust the exposure after the fact to change or increase a look (i.e. I want to make things darker and moodier, or I want to blow things out a little). My post-processing requirements are usually the following (in order of frequency): Exposure, white point, saturation, sharpening, levels, blemish fixing. On very rare occasion I'll need to do something beyond that.
My pre-Aperture workflow looked a lot like this:
Copy files from CF card. Due to my camera putting them in different folders based on the sequence, I had to write an automator script to pull out just the image files from all the folders and put them in a new folder on my desktop. This works, but takes a little while, and is something I had to write myself.
Create a folder for my project "Sarah-DarkWear hoodie".
Create the following folders inside that: "raws", "all-jpeg", "best-psd", "best-jpeg". Move all the RAWs from my automator action's results folder into the raws folder.
Open up Adobe CS2 Bridge. View the files. Try to pick the best ones. I can't emphasize enough how laborious and time consuming this task is. Out of 200 shots, about 20 are really good, and about 5 are worth using (in a portfolio or ad or whatever). Bridge has no way to compare two pictures other than switching back and forth between them. You also can't see the pictures at 100% so figuring out sharpness or focus is pretty impossible unless you open them up in Photoshop. Which requires a multi-dialog process and a conversion time.
Once I get my 20 good ones, batch convert them all to PSDs using an action I wrote. This takes a while. The PSDs go into the "best-psds" folder. They each take up about 40-70 MB of space vs. 3-6 MB for each RAW file.
Make the levels, saturation, sharpness adjustments as needed with each file. Using another action I wrote, batch convert the best PSDs to full rez jpegs with my copyright notice on them. As this action involves opening a 70 MB file, creating a new layer for my copyright, setting it up, converting to srgb, converting to 8bit, saving as jpeg, this takes a while. Several seconds each file on my dual 2.5 with 2.5 GB ram.
Using another action I wrote, batch covert all the RAWs to small rez jpegs with my copyright notice on them. These are for the model if it's a tfcd shoot, or for my records, or whatever. This takes a good long while. Now my 1 GB of raws are about 2.3 GB of raws, jpegs, psds.
Open up iView Media pro and update it's index so that all my new files are in it.
    Done.
With Aperture, I put my card in the reader.
Aperture pops up and asks if I'd like to import these images. I pick a destination, specify the metadata and keywords for this shoot, and it loads them all in.
I turn on auto-stack. I make a few manual stacking adjustments. I start picking the best shoots. Aperture has excellent compare modes, including 2-up, 3-up, more-up, full rez zoom, a loupe tool for instantly checking focus at full resolution, a 0-5 star rating system, a quick-select key for picking an image as five star, a quick-reject key for an image I know is junk. Within in a stack I can promote, demote, and pick the stack "pick" very quickly and easily. I can do this with just the keyboard. I can easily compare any pictures next to each other. I can go full screen with drops off all the unneeded junk and keeps the various window and toolbar colors for interfering with my vision on my color calibrated display. Picking the best shots is amazingly faster and less frustrating due to the features mentioned above.
I can now make my adjustments (exposure, levels, brightness, saturation, shadows, highlights, spot and patch blemish fixing, red eye, etc...., and then can apply them to all the other similar condition pictures. (In Photoshop/Bridge you can batch apply things like white point and exposure changes, but you can't do saturation, sharpness, etc...). My adjustments go into a 24kb xml file, instead of a 70 MB psd. Each adjustment can be turned on or off, removed, modified, etc... I can instantly create different version of an image. I might want a crop to zoom in on the model's face, or I might want a black and white version, etc... The versions are just a tiny amount of data in the xml file. In photoshop I'd need a new 70 MB psd for each version I wanted.
Once I'm all done getting the images rated and adjusted the way I want them, I can at any time use the export function to generate the jpegs. Since the copyright is a watermark layer and is rendered by Core Image in my video card, the export is about 10X faster than the Photoshop batch action processing. I haven't timed the two side by side, but I will. It's about 10X or so faster though. For me.
    Done.
I just converted my 70 GB working library into Aperture over the weekend. I was able to duplicate my photoshop adjustments in Aperture and drop my psds. This took my 70 GB lib to 35.5 GB. That's about half the size.
So for me, and my workflow, and my post-processing requirements, Aperture is faster, uses less hard drive space, is easier to use, and does a great job. It will pay for itself during the first shoot's sorting and post-processing.
There have been reports of the RAW conversion not doing as good a job as Adobe's. It turns out many of those people bringing that up left the default sharpening turned on in Adobe. Since raw files, at least Canon raws, pretty much always need sharpening and a small saturation boots, comparing a converted raw to a converted raw with sharpening will clearly show the one with sharpening looks better. So most of them aren't valid tests. There may be some real issues with Apple's image handling vs. Adobe's. Hopefully if there are, Apple will fix them. My personal experience is that the raw conversion looks pretty much the same to me as Adobe's non-sharpened conversion. I've found that Apple's noise-reduction looks better than Adobe's or Fred Miranda's action. I've found that it takes me less time to get a look I like in Aperture than in Adobe. I've found that my workflow is vastly quicker. To me it is an amazing program that will only get better with each revision.

    2X2.5 GHz w/2.5 GB + 2X2.3 GHz w/4.5 GB + 17"pb   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I have used Aperture quite extensively over the weekend and I also see a lot of potential. I also see the typical amount of bugs for a first release of a software of this complexity and I also see a few software architecture problems.
What did I do with Aperture so far?
First I have imported a few 70MB Tiff scans. Probably less than hundred and played around with it. Rated them, defined some searches, added some keyword hierarchies, tried some image manipulations, created a light table, printed the light table to pdf, created a book and created some example web pages. I played also with the fullscreen mode.
There were a few user interface glitches: The light table sometimes has problems with selections. Creating a query takes too long since it tries to update live. I can't seem to create a book with a light table visible at the same time. While entering a query I clicked on a triangle to open a folder - Aperture didn't like that. And some more.
Lots of stuff worked fine. Some (like the book designer) didn't have enough features. Some features I did understand after some time.
Now I copied my Aperture library to an external firewire disk. The disk is a fast RAID 0 disk connected via firewire 800.
Next I loaded my iPhoto library into Aperture. Something like 17000 photos. This took a few (five?) hours and went without any problem. I got a few hundred projects - I would like to join some of them. I created a query to get the iPhoto edited photos (1900 photos) and removed them. This took about ten minutes. Next I created some queries. No problems with that. Speed is okay on the Powermac.
Next I did some film scans with Nikon Scan and imported them (hundred maybe) large TIFFs into Aperture in small batches.
Then I imported probably hundred RAW images from my Canon EOS 350d. I tried the raw import patch mentioned somewhere else to get Mac OS X 10.4.3 to recognize. This worked fine. (I later tried another method which I cannot mention here, but that worked also fine.)
So currently my Aperture library is about 55 GB.
I never like the rendering of iPhoto too much. Often I used Graphicconverter to view, scale, batch convert, ... Graphicconverter also has quite a good (IMHO) rendering of images. So I was a bit sceptical about Aperture's rendering, but actually I don't have a problem with its on-screen rendering. I kind of like it. I haven't tried to print yet, though.
I also have Photoshop Elements, though I don't use it very much. GraphicConverter is used though. I also have the Canon tools which I also don't use much. I use the scan application sometimes. For the Filmscanner I use Nikon Scan which is okay. For my taste the Aperture application looks & feels better than those - though I'm not a big fan of an all-grey interface (which may have some advantages with being more neutral).
So I had a few crashes (two maybe) and had to force Aperture to quit (three times maybe). But I didn't seem to have lost any data and Aperture started quickly again. Sometimes I restarted Aperture when it acted strangely (like didn't want to provide a working crop tool - maybe four times).
So, would I buy it again? Yes, without a doubt. It's lots of fun... Can't wait to show my friends Aperture loaded with some of the scans I did over the weekend.

  • Generated Pulse waveform is distorted when I deliver the signal to the output port in the DAQmx

Problem: Generated Pulse waveform is distorted when I deliver the signal to the output port in the DAQmx.
    Environment: Windows XP sp3 (32bit), Visual Studio 2010 sp1, NI-Measurement Studio 2010
Device: NI - DAQmx PCI 6251
     Analog Input: 1.00MS/s multi-channel (aggregate)
     Analog Output: 2 Channel 2.00MS/s
    Reference Example: AO_ContGenVoltageWfm_IntClk / AI_ContAcqVoltageSamples_IntClk
    Generated Pulse:
    1) AO0 = Square Waveform /0-5V / 8KHz / 0.5㎲/sample / sample 50% Duty
    2) AO1 = Square Waveform /0-5V / 8KHz / 0.5㎲/sample / (Reverse Image)
Description: I’d like to deliver the waveform stream satisfied with specified constraints to the 2 channel output port in the DAQmx. To verify accuracy of the generated waveform, I did an electrical wiring from the Analog output channel (2 channels) to the Analog Input channel (2 channels) in DAQmx. As a result of this experiment, I could get a result which has signal distortion. Since the waveform has to satisfy with both high frequency (8KHz) and very short moment interval time (△t = 0.5㎲/sample) between samples, I cannot handle some parameters of the function in the referenced VC++ example. Following formulas shows an approach to deliver the generate pulse waveform to output port satisfied with constraints.
    Analog Output Channel
     Frequency = 8,000 cycles/sec (constraint)
     Sample per Buffer = 2,000,000 = 2*106 samples/buffer
     Cycles per Buffer = 80,000 cycles/buffer
     Sample per Channel = 1,000,000 = 1*106 samples/channel
 Sample Rate  = Frequency * (Sample per Buffer / Cycle per Buffer)
                              = 8,000 * (2*106 / 80,000) = 2*106 samples / sec
     △t  = 1 sec / 2*106 samples / sec
               = 0.5 * 10-6 sec/sample (constraint)
 Buffer Cycle  = Sample Rate / Sample per Channel
                              = (2*106 samples / sec) / (1*106 samples/channel)
                              = 2 channel / sec
    Analog Input Channel
    Sample per Channel = 1,000,000 = 1*106 samples/channel
     Sample Rate  = 1 MS/s * (2 Channel) = 5 * 105 Samples / Sec
    Program Code
    AO_ContGenVoltageWfm_IntClk / AI_ContAcqVoltageSamples_IntClk (VC++ Example)
Result: The proposed approach was implemented in the experiment environment (VS2010, MStudio2010). As shown in Figure 1, we could get the unsatisfied result. Although I intended to make a ‘square’ pulse wave, the result looks like ‘trapezoid’ pulse wave (Figure.1). However, there is other result which was undertaken with different parameter condition. It looks like the square shape not the trapezoid shape.
Please let me know what the conditions make the problem of signal distortion. (AO0 = Green line / AO1 = Red line)
    [Figure. 1] Frequency 8000 Hz / Cycle per Buffer = 8000 Result
    [Figure. 2] Frequency 1000 Hz / Cycle per Buffer = 1000 Result
Questions: Please let me know following questions.
    1) Is it possible to deliver the generated pulse wave satisfied with constraints (f= 8KHz), △t = 0.5㎲/sample) to the output port without distortion using PXI 6251?
(Is it possible to solve the problem, if I use the LabView or MAX?)
    2) Are there some mistakes in the proposed approach? (H/W or S/W program)
    3) What is the meaning of the Cycle per Buffer?, It could effect to the result?

    Hi Brett Burger,
Thanks for your reply. For your information, I have set the sampling rate as 10000 as for the sound format, I have set the bits per sample as 16 bit, the rate as 11025 and the sound quality as mono. I tried using your method by changing the sampling rate as 8K but still my program encounter the same problem.
I wish to also create a button that is able to generate a preformatted report that contains VI documentation, data the VI returns, and report properties, such as the author, company, and number of pages only when I click on the button.  I have created this in my program, but I am not sure why is it not working. Can you help troubleshoot my program. Or do you have any samples to provide me. Hope to hear from you soon.
    Many thanks.

  • How to structure the DMA buffer for PXie 6341 DAQ card for analog output with different frequencies on each channel

I'm using the MHDDK for analog out/in with the PXIe 6341 DAQ card.
The examples, e.g. aoex5, show a single Timer  (outTimerHelper::loadUI method), but the example shows DMA data loaded with the same vector size.
There is a comment in the outTimerHelper:rogramUpdateCount call which implies that different buffer sizes per channel can be used.
(the comment is: Switching between different buffer sizes will not be used)
Does anyone know what the format of the DMA buffer should be for data for multiple channels with different frequencies ?
For example, say we want a0 with a 1Khz Sine wave and a1 with a 1.5Khz sine wave.  What does the DMA buffer look like ?
With the same frequency for each channel, the data is interleaved, e.g.  (ao0#0, ao1#0; ao0#1, ao1#1, ...), but when the frequencies for each channel is different, what does the buffer look like ?

    Hello Kenstern,
The data is always interleaved because each card only has a single timing engine for each subsystem.
For AO you must specify the number of samples that AO will output. You also specify the number of channels. Because there is only one timing engine for AO, each AO will channel will get updated at the same time tick of the update clock. The data will be arranged interleaved exactly as the example shows because each AO channel needs data to output at each tick of the update clock. The data itself can change based on the frequency you want to output.

In your example, you need to come up with an update rate that works for both waveforms (1 KHz and 1.5 KHz sine waves). To get a good representation of a sine wave, you need to update more than 10x as fast as your fastest frequency...I would recommend 100x if possible.
    Update Frequency: 150 KHz
    Channels: 2
Then you create buffers that include full cycles of each waveform you want to output based on the update frequency. These buffers must also be the same size.
Buffer 1: Contains data for the 1 KHz sine wave, 300 points, 2 sine wave cycles
Buffer 2: Contains data for the 1.5 KHz sine wave, 300 points, 3 sine wave cycles
You then interleave them as before. When the data is run through the ADC, they are outputting different sine waves even though the AO channels are updating at the same rate.

  • DAQmx period measurement- buffer is cut when frequency is too high

    Hello,
I'm using the DAQmx period measurement in order to measure a low frequency pulses. Even though the average frequency is low I still sometime get two pulses that arrive within a short time . When that happens I get  an error message and the buffer is cut. I'm wondering if there is any way to ignore one of the pulses (in the case that the pulse arrives at a time that is too short for the program to read) and for the measurement to keep running until the buffer is full??
    Thank you ,
    Shafran

Hi all, thanks for your help.
    I'll give more details:
    1. I'm using PCI-6602
    2. The error code number I'm getting is:  200141       Possible reason(s):
Data was overwritten before it could be read by the system.
    3. I'm measuring photon emission from biological samples where each photon is converted to a pulse of a 35.2 ns width. I can control the concentration of the sample and therefore the average frequency of the pulses. I have started with an average intensity of 100 kHz and I went down to 10kHz. My final goal is to run the period measurement program in loops where I decide the buffer size so each loop will take approximately 10 seconds. The problem is that even if one out of all the buffers is cut all my calculations after that are wrong. A filter sounds like the perfect solution for my problem (I need to find out more about that option).
    4. I have checked the limitations of the program and I know that it can't measure pulses that arrive at a higher frequency than a few MHz, therefore I assume that even at an average frequency of 10kHz I still get some pulses that arrive within a frequency of a few MHz.
Thanks again for all your help. I hope I didn't bore you with to many details...

  • [tuner card] cx88 alsa buffer under-run (on xc4000)

I'm having really weird bug and I don't know where should I look for help.
I own Leadtek WinFast DTV2000 H Plus card with Conexant CX2388x PCI bridge and Xcieve XC4000 tuner.
I'm using it with mplayer to watch analog cable tv. I'm suffering from buffer underrun caused by alsa driver (cx88_alsa). What's more interesting it's occurring more often when I'm watching channels only on specific frequencies (mostly high). The side effect of this is that mplayer (also mplayer2) has a memory leak which causes to drop frames after aprox. 10 minutes.
When I'm having underruns dmesg shows something like this:
    May 26 11:26:12 localhost kernel: [81922.660861] cx88[0]: irq aud [0x1101] dn_risci1* dnf_of dn_sync*
    May 26 11:26:14 localhost kernel: [81924.159913] cx88[0]: irq aud [0x1101] dn_risci1* dnf_of dn_sync*
    May 26 11:26:16 localhost kernel: [81926.855046] cx88[0]: irq aud [0x1101] dn_risci1* dnf_of dn_sync*
    May 26 11:26:19 localhost kernel: [81929.550115] cx88[0]: irq aud [0x1101] dn_risci1* dnf_of dn_sync*
    May 26 11:26:22 localhost kernel: [81932.245248] cx88[0]: irq aud [0x1101] dn_risci1* dnf_of dn_sync*
    May 26 11:26:25 localhost kernel: [81935.341748] cx88[0]: irq aud [0x1001] dn_risci1* dn_sync*
    May 26 11:26:25 localhost kernel: [81935.352431] cx88[0]: irq aud [0x1101] dn_risci1* dnf_of dn_sync*
    May 26 11:26:25 localhost kernel: [81935.352440] cx88[0]: irq aud [0x1001] dn_risci1* dn_sync*
I've figured a simple workaround but it's causing sound stuttering on high frequencies (because of more buffer underruns). Disable audio in mplayer and run:
    sox -t alsa hw:1,0 -t alsa hw:0,0
I've found similar problem but no one has found a soultion: http://www.digipedia.pl/usenet/thread/17087/5974/
I've tried also applying workaround from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/836062 post #5 but it doesn't work.
I really don't know where should I report this bug. Any help will be really appreciated.

    Hi mate,
Just to let you know you are not alone. I have the same issue with Leadtek WinFast DTV2000 H (rev. J) card. It's card=82 on the cx88 driver support list on v4l site.
I'm seeing the same messages on Mythbuntu Lucid 10.04 I just noticed it today troubleshooting some tunning issue. I found some other people having same issue dating from 2007 and 2009 with some other cards too, not sure if the same driver though.

Some of them solved their issue by unloading the cards ALSA driver cx88_alsa but not sure if that is a good idea since that module is used by snd_pcm and will probably have audio impact.

I'm using this card on MythTV setup for watching and recording DVB-T TV and can't say I've noticed any sound issues during playback. But what I've noticed is that the card can't tune some DVB channels here in Australia after I upgraded to MythTV 0.25 and Mythbuntu 10.04.
If you ask me this issue should go to the v4l list since I think is driver related.

  • Low frequency Voltage measurement

    Hi,
I am using PCI 6025E to control load bank and to measure voltage, current and frequency of a generator.
While current and frequency measurement  is not a problem, voltage measurement is toublesome.
Since on test bench already there are few PCI boards and huge number of sensors, I do not want to add NI 9205 or any other additional boards and clutter the area (other people are also working there).
The problem with voltage measurement is that out of three generators two run from 400 RPM to 1600 RPM i.e.. somewhat 15-55 Hz.
I had two solutions for this:
1, Putting a step down transformer (230 Vac / 5 Vac) and then measure the voltage. But when testing at somthing like 15 Hz I have to deal with magnetic saturation with commercially available transformer. I do not want to take pain to go on built my own transformer.
2, Using high precision voltage Divider. The problem is that what should be the galvanic isolation? Isolation transformer, but then again low frequency problem.
Hence could someone suggest me since there is a bit confusion in my head.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you have a sine generator (15Hz migth be hard for the soundcard ) you can do a calibration of your transformer.
(If only the voltage amplitude is of interest , use a isolated DMM as reference and run your generators)
Or you buy a isolation voltage sense amplifier. (weidmueller, phoenix, wago, ...)

  • High frequency bit pattern evaluation

I am trying to use a 6601 counter/timer to count the bits in a high speed serial output from a linear encoder.  I've successfully used the counter/timer card to clock and reset the encoder, but I'm having trouble using my third counter input to correctly tell me where the edges of the bit pattern are.  I realise I should probably have bought a serial card to do the job properly, but what the heck ;-).
I'm using Borland C++Builder, by the way.
I aimed to use the clock signal to latch the buffer and record a one or a zero in my edge count array to work out whether or not the data signal had changed state.
    The signal relationships are thus:
I generate a finite pulse train 24 pulses long at a frequency up to 2MHz on CTR0. This output has a retriggerable start trigger on its CTR0GATE, which is generated at CTR2 (which I have to use instead of CTR1 as CTR1 seems to be affected by what is happening on CTR0 in some way that I do not fully understand).
The CTR0 output is sent to the transducer, which returns a serial bit pattern starting with the most significant bit and ending with the least significant bit.  CTR0 is high at idle as this is what the transducer requires to reset to its first bit.  If there is no pause at the end of the clock train the encoder returns the same value irrespective of where it actually is (like a sort of sample/hold).
The data return from the transducer comes in on CTR3SOURCE, which uses the CTR0 clock coming in on CTR3GATE to latch the buffer and reload the counter.
CTR2 is a free running infinite pulse train that is usually low but goes high shortly after the end of the pulse train on CTR0 to retrigger CTR0 as described above.
There is some crosstalk on the transducer output from the clock signal, but since I am having trouble reading back the edge count array I can't really tell if it is causing any problems.  However, I do know that the linear encoder is behaving as expected.
Thanks for any ideas anyone might have!

    Hi,
Thanks for posting the problem on the NI forum.

Essentially when generating a finite pulse the counter channels are paired up i.e. it uses the gate to give the counter pulse out on CTR2. In other words it is internally routed in the maner you have describe hence its not an unexpected behaviour. CTR 1 is used internally to genetate the pulse at CTR 2.
I was wondering whether you could perhaps provide a timing diagram of the counter pulses recieved.
    Kind Regards,
    Kurt

  • FFT Frequency Resolution vs. Graph Update Rate of a Vibration Signal

    Hello,
    First, what I know:
The frequency resolution (Hz) of an fft is 1/acquisitionTime (e.g. if 2 seconds of data are acquired, the frequency resolution is 1/2s = 0.5Hz).
    What I'm Wondering:
Let's say I'm displaying an acquired signal on a graph and freq res = 0.5Hz.  The graph update rate is therefore approx 2sec.  This may appear to be an application with a problem from a user's perspective.
Can I increase the update rate?
It seems that with vibration data (i.e. mostly non-periodic) I could create a buffer that is 2sec long.  The first data acquisition sequence will fil the buffer with 2sec of data.  Then I could just acquire something shorter than 2sec of data (let's say 1/4sec).  If I am acquiring data continuously and I push the 1/4sec of data into the front of my buffer then perform the fft again, I have effectively increased my graph update rate to 1/4sec and my users think I'm great.
Can anyone shed any light on whether or not (why/why not) this will work?
    Thanks for your time,
    Chris

The best tool NI provides for your application is the Zoom FFT.  This allows you to specify the span (frequency range of the FFT) and the zoom (the delta f such as 0.5hz) in the FFT.  The Zoom FFT has a built in buffer, called overlap and allows you to set the overlap so that it updates at the appropriate rate, event though you may need many seconds of data to get the delta-f in the FFT you are looking for.  We package all this and manage units to display the correct units for power density, power, linear, magnitude, rms, 0 to peak, peak to peak, etc.  We even provide a express VI for the zoom FFT and it is also part of the Sound and Vibration Assistant, requiring no programming at all.

  • How to tell if you are saturating g5 bus

    Hi,
I went ahead and hooked up an OWC Enterprise RE SSD 50 gb drive on the board controller. I am still hoping the Delock Sata2 adapter will work but I thought i would try it with out to compare, After instal I xbenched it, and got a combined score of 152.53. Does this show the sata1 bus being saturated by the SSD or is this not the correct way to test for it.

  • Xorg either crashes, or faces an mi EQ buffer overflow with Nividia

Hello everyone, first post here. I come because I've had an ongoing problem with Xorg/Nvidia for almost as long as I've had Arch (I installed Arch roughly a few months ago) that has unfortunately worsened as time has gone on.
I have an EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 (NOT ti), and at this moment, I have the 304.43-1 driver, and Xorg-server 1.12.4-1.
    Problem 1
My problem first started with games that ran in Wine. Some, but not all games, after being played for a long enough time, would lock up Xorg; my screen would be frozen, and I coudln't move the mouse or switch to another tty, yet strangely, other programs like teamspeak would continue to function; I simply had no control, and was forced to either reboot using REISUB, or ssh into my computer and kill X remotely. Either way, it would mean losing any unsaved work.
It only happened in some games, for example: Skyrim, any Source game (Portal, Half-life, etc); yet others ran fine, for example: Sanctum. It was always the same symptoms when it happened, and the duration of time before the crash happened was always random. Sometimes it would happen after a few hours of gameplay, and other times it would happen after roughly a half hour.
I've read in a few scattered Linux forums of people with similar (but not quite the same) problems, and it having to do with keyboard input (though I doubt that's what's causing my issue).
    Problem 2
A short while ago, a new problem arose. My computer is a desktop, so I leave it on 24/7, but recently, after about 24 hours or so, (I noticed that it happens very often when I turn my monitor back on after waking up, having slept for some time) I'll return to my desktop to find that my monitor has white squares across the screen, a box around my mouse cursor, and sometimes an odd purple tint to the whole display. I still control over input for a while, as I can move the mouse and can type into a terminal or application, etc. but after a few seconds, all windows stop responding, and X will gradually use 100% of my CPU, again, forcing me to either SSH or reboot via REISUB.
Now, Problem 1 and Problem 2 return different things to my error logs, so that is why I labelled them separately.
Before I post the error logs, here is my xorg.conf:
