Frequent Apache crashes on win nt 4.0 server

Hi,
In our production environment we use Portal 3.0.9.8.0 and the 9iAS is on a win nt 4.0 server and the 8.1.7.0.0 rdbms is on another
win nt server (3-tier). Other products on the 9iAS are Discoverer and Web Forms and Reports.
The apache webserver is crashing frequently. First we received a WSADuplicateSocket error.
After seraching on metalink we found a workaround that described to exclude mod__ose.conf in the oracle%.conf file. (e.g [#] include mod__ose.conf ). After implementing this workaround, the errors concerning the WSADuplicateSocket disappeared.
But now after browsing a few minutes apache still crashes. Now we receive another error message:
[Fri Sep 07 04:30:30 2001] [error] [client 172.16.2.117] File does not exist: d:/data/opauren/icons/afsright.gif
[Fri Sep 07 20:20:24 2001] [notice] FastCGI: process manager initialized

[Fri Sep 07 20:20:40 2001] [warn] OPM: EW: Process soas1:0 (pid:342) died, restarting.
[Fri Sep 07 20:20:43 2001] [warn] OPM: EW: Process soas1:0 (pid:286) died, restarting.
[Fri Sep 07 20:20:46 2001] [warn] OPM: EW: Process soas1:0 (pid:174) died, restarting.
[Fri Sep 07 20:20:49 2001] [warn] OPM: EW: Process soas1:0 (pid:346) died, restarting.
[Fri Sep 07 20:20:52 2001] [warn] OPM: EW: Process soas1:0 (pid:270) died, restarting.
[Fri Sep 07 20:20:55 2001] [warn] OPM: EW: Process soas1:0 (pid:387) died, restarting.
[Fri Sep 07 20:20:58 2001] [warn] OPM: EW: Process soas1:0 (pid:403) died, restarting.
Apache tries to create a new child process but fails.
My question is if there is a patch or a workaround for this that works for 99.9%
or should I change the 9iAS environment to Linux or Unix ? Also, what are the future developments with the 9iAS ? Is Oracle planning a stable version of apache for win nt / 2000, or are that advertisement lines ?
No offence, but it is quite irritating to solve one bug and to find another waiting for you.
Best regards,
Jerome

Hi Jerome,
We were experiencing the same issue but we eventually traced the problem.
Apache crashed when using a Windows 2000 client and Internet Explorer 5.0. Upgrading to IE 5.01 or 5.5 sorted out our problem... Or using NT 4 as the client...
Could this be your problem?

  • Apache crashes frequently

    Hi All,
    I have the following configuration:
    Database : 8.1.7 EE
    9iAS : 1.0.2.0 EE
While I am testing new applications on Portal, Apache crashes frequently. May be twice or thrice daily. Does any patch have to be applied for this problem.
Secondly, since last few days, suddenly the TNSListener stops working and the only solution to bring it up it to restart the machine. Does this happens because of the DBLinks that I am using in Portal applications or because of something else. Does anybody else have face this error? Whats the solution for this.???
    Thanks in advance..

I cannot find this bug number on Metalink or the patch! What is the patch number for the 8.1.7.1.1 Client library patch?

  • TNSLSNR crashes on Win NT 4.0 SP 6a

I am trying to install 8i Enterprise Edition v 8.1.6 on a Win NT 4 server SP 6a machine. The Listener service starts but after a few minutes or upon trying to access the database it crashes due to an access violation. The log reports packet writer failure, protocol adapter error and listener failed to start a dedicated server process.
I am using tcp protocol on my network.
    Appreciate any pointers.

  • Frequent safari crash

Back in July, I posted some Safari crash logs hoping someone could figure out why I am unable to use Safari anymore on my MacBook. (See Help! Frequent Safari Crashes. Crash logs included. Posted: Jul 1, 2008 8:37 PM)
Some helpful suggestions were made. I have moved Safari, updated Flash, and repaired permissions on the Admin account.
Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem. Still can't use Safari because it crashes after a few minutes use, often related to typing text into a data field.
I am posting another crash log here in hopes someone may have further ideas.
    Thanks.

    paradocs --
I'm glad to see you moved your Safari out of the "Communincations" folder you had established
and put in free-standing under the Application header.
At this point, maybe the best and easiest things you could do,
would be to apply the 10.4.11 COMBO update.
It will bring your Safari up to date (3.1.2) and fix anything else you might have
accidently put out of position. Here's the link to the update for Intel Macs:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
I'm hoping that will fix it. If not, the next thing we could look at after that
are very easy -- caches and perhaps font duplicates.
IMHO, I think we can wait til we do the easy stuff before we think about an A&I.

  • Frequent FF crashes when clicking on a bookmark in the sidebar

Running Win7 64bit, Firefox 3.6, but this problem existed for me in earlier versions of FF also.
When I click on a bookmark in sidebar view, I will experience frequent FF crashes. When I re-open FF, the sidebar view is gone. I don't experience these crashes when I disable the sidebar view. Anyone have an idea about this? TIA

Sorry for the delay, testing takes awhile...
Tried using FF in safe mode as suggested, which worked for about a week but then today it crashed while in safe mode. Same symptom, which is that when I restart FF the sidebar is closed.
Trying the next step, which is deletion of any instances of "places.sqlite.*" from the profile folder.
I'll report back in a few days. It takes that long to know whether the problem still exists because it doesn't happen everyday.

  • Firefox keeps crashing in Win 8.1

I have a new system from HP. I installed firefox two days ago. It works for a while and then keeps crashing in Win 8.1. This usually happens together with a pop up saying something like a script is running, do I want to stop it or continue
Can someone help? What should I do?

  • WRT350N + WMP300N = BSOD Crash on Win XP Pro SP2?

Yes, the problem I am having is that with WRT350N + Wireless + WMP300N = BSOD Crash on Win XP Pro SP2.   Really, from what I can tell, WRT350N + Wireless = BSOD Crash on Win XP Pro SP2.   Yes, I know, a router shouldn't be able to crash a computer, PC drivers, PC misconfigurations do.
However, my crashes didn't start happening until I switched to my WRT350N wireless router.  Actually, at that time I didn't even have the linksys WMP300N ... it was another wireless card.  Now I have the linksys WMP300N, and the crashes still happen.
I updated my driver on my NIC to the latest version two days ago, and at the same time upgraded the firmware on the router to the latest and greatest.  You know what that did?  Instead of crashing my PC once every day or so I get crashes about 5 mins after I start my PC.
I've tried using the linksys wireless configuration utility, and the Windows zero configuration, still crashes.  I've tried Wireless Mixed bode, BG mixed, G only, still crashes.   Different channels, still crashes.   I disabled Symantec Client Security firewall, still crashes.  Uninstalled SCS and used windows firewall, still crashes.   Disabled netbios and dynamic DNS registration on my adapter, still crashes.   Disabled wireless QoS on PC and router, still crashes.  Tried disabling and enabling (individually) Wireless AP isolation, frame burst, CTS Protection mode,  forced 54mbps rate ... still crashes.  I have no HD attached to the router.  I've disabled UPnP on the router, still crashes.
You know what does fix the crashes?  Disabling my wireless adapter.  You know what else fixes the crashes?   Connecting to a different wireless router.
I'm completely baffled.  Any ideas what I can try?  I'm an IT Consultant by trade, and have been working with PCs and networking in a professional capacity for over 8 years, so I have a decent amount of troubleshooting experience.   The BSOD doesn't say much, just equates to a hardware/driver fault ... but no indication what.   My crash dump analysis (full, not just minidump) also provides no data as to what driver).
Thoughts?  As much as I hated my former Netgear, I'm about ready to even go back to that....
Edit:  My PC is using DHCP, configured as a reserved address.
Message Edited by TroyL on 02-20-2008 07:08 AM

Hello, hopefully I can help you. Some things that resolved my issue were disabling some options in the advanced properties of my NIC (WMP300N) Even if you don't have the same NIC, you should probably have some similar options:
-Manage Wireless Settings = Disabled (note: I disabled this since I'm using Windows to manage the settings)
    -Mixed Cell Support = Disabled
    -Minimum Power Consumption = Disabled
    -Power Save Mode = Disabled
    -Wake Up Capabilities = None
    -Bluetooth Collaboration = Disabled
    -40MHz Intolerant = Disabled
Try disabling those things, and go from there ... good luck . With those settings, I haven't crashed in several months now. I don't know which setting it was fixed it, I haven't been brave enough to go playing with it again ... if it ain't broke, don't fix it, lol.

  • Jinstall 1.3.1 crash on Win NT 4.0 with

I created html file using converter from jdk1.3.1 .
When jinstall starts downloading the JRE it crashes on
    Win NT 4.0 SP6
    Thanks
    Leo Perlov

You're not alone, experienced the same Problem. Looks to me like a reincarnation of bug no 4393067, which has closed/fixed status for 1.3.0_03. Workaround for me was manual download and installation of JRE 1.3.1 - which is fine for development, but unfeasible for Applet deployment...

  • Video choppy and causes frequent hard crashes - flash player issue?

Hi there I recently upgraded to 10.6.8 as my old Mac was running slowly.  Since the upgrade video playback has been significantly worse - videos freeze, jump and the sound gets out of sync.  This also seems to cause frequent hard crashes of the Mac (also occured during a Skype call).  I've tried to uninstall and reload an older version of Flash Player but it doesn't seem to have any effect, neither did installing the click to flash extension.  Any ideas on how to resolve this?  I'll try and run a youtube video to get an eror report from the next crash.  Hope you can help!

    Hi Don
Chrome was just the same unfortunately.  I've put the question in the software folder here, including the error report:

  • Frequent VM Crashes

The JVM on my computer crashes alot. (Meaning, I almost never get to keep my programs running for more than an hour unless I'm not using them while they run. Frequently the crash will occur while my programs, Eclipse/NetBeans are starting up.) Originally I noticed the problem using Eclipse, but as the problem seemed to get worse and worse, I switched to NetBeans IDE 5.0. (Reinstalling Eclipse always seemed to help, but the crashing would always get unbearable.) NetBeans ran great for a while, but exactly the same problem has been croping up again, and this time it's also crashing a significant amount of the time while running the programs I'm developing. I've never had this problem on any other machine, so I expect there's something curious about my computer, but I've run memory tests repeatedly and they've come up clean and I don't really have a problem running anything but the JVM. Here's a sample error dump:

Unfortunately that stack trace shows it to be a crash during garbage collection. The decoded stack trace is:
    V [jvm.dll+0xce102] MarkSweep::mark_object
    V [jvm.dll+0x70ad1] GenCollectedHeap::process_strong_roots
    V [jvm.dll+0x7084d] GenMarkSweep::mark_sweep_phase1
    V [jvm.dll+0x73ebb] GenMarkSweep::invoke_at_safepoint

    V [jvm.dll+0x128a8b] VM_Operation::evaluate
    V [jvm.dll+0x128559] ...
It's unfortunate because a failure in the routine in question is not very specific. The heap is corrupted and this code is simply the innocent victim . The actual source of the corruption can be many things and usually has happened quite a bit in the past. It
would interesting to see if all your crashes have this same stack trace or if they are different. As long as you run the same version of the jvm 5.0u8b03 and -client) the stack trace would be stable. Once thing you could try is to use the server vm. Which you might not have installed since windows installs usually omit it. Once you have the server vm you need to use -server as the option to the java command which might take some doing for NetBeans or Eclipse. If that vm is more stable then we know the issue is with the client compiler. If it fails then stack trace might look different and would need to be decoded to see if the stack trace is really the same. Unfortunately the type of crash you are seeing is difficult to debug in the best of circumstances and without a test case could be nearly impossible. In any case seeing more examples of stack traces at a crash might give us a clue.
Certainly the fact that only a particular machine is troublesome for you is suspicious. The jvm is pretty highly multi-threaded and as such is much more susceptible to hardware flakes than your average program.

  • Calendar Server crashes in Yosemite 10.10 with Server App 4.0

I am running an OS X Server (4.0) in Yosemite 10.10 locally on my iMac to provide calendars in our house. Since the combined update of OS and the "Server App" the calendar server crashes frequently. It restarts when I run the server app but crashes again a couple of minutes later.
Error log is below, I hope someone has an idea.
    Thanks,

Looks like a corrupt database. I suggest you export all calendars on the clients, then delete /Library/Server/Wiki/Data and reinitialize the server.
    Back up all data.
Quit the Server application and drag it to the Trash, but don't empty. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to stop all services. You won't lose any data.
If you're using the server for DNS, temporarily change the primary DNS setting in the Network preference pane to your ISP's DNS.
Put the app back where it was and launch it. Test.
Revert the DNS setting, if applicable.

  • Error while starting Tomcat Apache and Jaguar services in AW webview server

    hi,
I am facing a problem with AW webview server. I am not able to restart the Tomcat Apache and Jaguar Service after a planned server reboot activity.I am getting the below error.
"Could not start Apache Tomcat service on Local Computer. Error 1069. The service could not start due to log on failure"
The below account has been verified in the Domain controller and confirmed that the account is not Locked out or disabled.
I have AW , HDS and Webview running on the same server.
    Can someone advice ...

What OS version?  This might be a windows problem and not a Apache/Jaguar problem.

  • I frequently get the "Firefox can't find the server" error message.

I frequently get the "Firefox can't find the server" error message. Refreshing the page normally causes the page to load, although sometimes it takes more than one try.
I have checked my connection settings. IPv6 and DNS prefetching are disabled, as recommended by this article: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20cannot%20load%20websites%20but%20other%20programs%20can?s=Firefox+can%27t+find+the+server+at&r=1&as=s

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

    Hello Romain,
Thanks for getting back to us.  When I tried to create a new SIA, I get the same error
"Server Host_Name:6400 not found or server may be down (FWM 01003) null".
I did notice in the Event Viewer a message like,
"SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Error creating a new session)."
Also, in the MS SQL server log file I see the following message,
"2011-10-31 11:05:31 - ! [298] SQLServer Error: 15247, User does not have permission to perform this action. [SQLSTATE 42000] (DisableAgentXPs)

    2011-10-31 11:05:31 - ? [098] SQLServerAgent terminated (normally)"
I read some where that I should use "SQL Server Management Studio" and change the security roles of the user that runs the agent service.
But, I don't see the "SQL Server Management Studio" application anywhere.
    Thanks for all your help.
    Regards,
    Arvind
