Hi All,
I have HP HDX16t-1200 CTO Premium laptop purchased in OCT 2009. Within Warranty period had some issues with heat sink and got it replaced as cooling fan stopped working and was hibernating system frqently, even at start ups too. Sent my system tyo service center and got it repaired, It was working fine till now. 2-3 weeks before cooling fan started making louder noises and then stopped working. Since then I boought heatsink part from HP parts store, and fixed myself, but then it started the old problem of hibernation any time during startup, or withing 5-10 mins after windows completely launched.
I checked BIOS version, I have F.32 llatest version. Not sure why this problem is happening. IS there any way out now??
I contacts HP chat support, and asked for solution, they said heatsink need to be replaced. so I did. but no solution.
I cant even contact HP Support by cchat?
PLease HELP me.

I have the same issue with my laptop. Bought it about 4 years, now it gets really hot near the fan area. I took a part the laptop and cleaned up the dust near the fan's area. Still the laptop gets very hot. I got the latest drivers + BIOS for everything under Windows 7. I think HP has some overheat issue with it but they don't want to admit it and they don't care anymore since it's an old product...

Go to System Preferences / Accounts - Login Items.
In order to make changes, click the lock icon bottom left corner of the pane. You may be prompted for your admin password.
Select the apps you don't want to launch on startup then click - (minus).

MATE keeps hibernating whenever my laptop starts discharging!

MATE keeps hibernating whenever my laptop charger discharges. It's annoying and I messed around in the mate-power-manager settings yet that still didn't fix anything.
My laptop charger is a little loose so this is more than annoying for me, because it happens constantly.

Are you sure the battery is holding a charge? Sounds like it might be on its way out. Try exiting MATE and see if it stays running on battery for awhile.
You might also take a look at systemd's power settings in /etc/systemd/logind.conf. I had a problem with systemd hibernating my laptop shortly after bootup and it was because the laptop lid was closed. I had to set HandleLidSwitch=ignore in that file to prevent it from happening.

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Authorizing a computer does not cause media to magically appear.
Media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

Stolen Laptop a problem - Anti-Theft Software???

So, I may or may not live in a ghetto-adjacent neighborhood ... some call it "transitional." Yesterday, a friend's house was broken into and they stole a two week old MBP and a broken iPod Mini. Bummer!
Now I am super paranoid. I have a good backup regimen, but want to take another step to foil or possibly recover my laptop.
Is there any software that can be installed to disable or report my laptop after it has been stolen or wipe the account information, stored keychains?

You may be externalizing you own latent racism buy assuming that words like "transitional" and "ghetto" have racial implications.
All the crime associated with such a neighbor is a legitimate concern of mine. For starters: my neighbor was held up at gun point, two friends were kidnapped at gunpoint and stuffed in the trunk of a car - robbed - and left tied up in an abandoned crack house, another had 16 yo kids with guns enter their home and fired 14 rounds - everyone escaped (albeit with broken legs, ankles and wrists from jumping off the back deck), all my other friends have simply been burgled. Personally, I have had a ladder stolen off my work van and fought a guy off my porch trying to steal my porch furniture - in my blue briefs.
It's all a day in the life. I wouldn't trade diversity (racial and economic) for bland, safe, suburban life any day. Either way, this is not the appropriate forum for a discussion like this so keep you comments, judgements and assumptions about my character to yourself. Either answer the question or pass.

Why Portage R700-15P starts automatically after hibernation

Why TOSHIBA Portage R700-15P starts automatically after I hibernate it (or put on sleep) and close the lid?
As soon as I take hibernated laptop with closed lid in my hands to put it into bag - it starts by itself with closed lid...
Had anybody similar issue and solution for this?

First of all its not matter if the lid is closed or not one fact is important: notebook is set in hibernation mode and wakes up if USB mouse would be moved
Fact is that BIOS contains some Wake Up options you should check the BIOS settings like Wake Up on LAN, Wake up on keyboard etc disable these options, save the changes and check how it works

I know you can backup to the I cloud, which I am. But is there a way to also automate the process of going from the I cloud to my laptop automatically on a regularly scheduled time.

Photoshop and Bridge rotating images automatically, unwanted behavior

We have a large batch of identically sized images (although obviously some are portrait and some landscape) and when previewed in bridge or opened in photoshop, the images that are portrait are being automatically rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise. In bridge, the extracted preview displays correctly but when the higher-res image preview is generated, it rotates the images counter-clockwise.
This is happening on more than one of our machines, which makes me think it has something to do with the images themselves. The only thing I've found so far is that maybe the images contain meta-data that is telling the two programs to rotate the images, but this is unwanted behavior and if this is indeed what's going on, then I'd like to either tell photoshop/bridge to ignore this data or clear it out of the image files altogether.
Any thoughts/ideas/solutions?

Right, which is what I thought. If by "a conflict to the way you want it see it" you mean there are people are now standing on the wall, then yes, it is a conflict.
So any help on how to clear this particular bit of meta data on a few thousand photos? Or do we just have to work around it?

Unwanted image compression on laptop with E61

Hi, I'm using a Nokia E61 with Tmobile Web 'n' Walk Plus to connect my laptop to the internet. No real issues except automatic compression of all images, so that they appear grainy. Mousing over tells me that pressing Shift + R will improve the image quality, and Ctrl + F5 will reload the whole page. But I want quality graphics all the time, and not to have to reload all the time, which of course has the opposite effect of increasing bandwidth, not reducing it! Can anyone tell me how to turn off this compression? There is no obvious way in PC Suite settings that I can see. Cheers.

What/who is doing image compression for you, exactly?
How do you transfer your pictures from the phone to your PC?
Are you using the PC Suite "Store images" feature, or something else (such as the "File manager")? Neither of those does any kind of automatic image compression on my PC, as far as I can tell.

Why has my iphone 4S stopped automatically uploading photos to my laptop when I plug it in?

My iphone 4S has always automatically uploaded photos when I plug it into my laptop, but now it wont do that and I cannot find it when I look on 'my computer' to manually do it myself. Please help!

X220 screen automatically reorients when I carry laptop around

Hi, I pressed some strange keys on my keyboard (something like a shift+alt+function) the other day when I was in Excel and I unintentionally turned on some feature that causes my Thinkpad X220's display to automatically reorient when I physically change the orientation of my screen. For example, if I flip my laptop sideways, the screen orientation changes as well. As cool as this is, it's driving me crazy. Any idea how to turn this feature off?

Ctrl-Alt-R toggles the Lenovo Screen Reading Optimizer on and off. Handy for reading documents and tall pages, mouse buttons for backwards and forwards.

Frequent Shutdown of Lenovo n100 3000 laptop

Hi,
I have had a lenovo 3000 N100 for the last 3 years. For the first year it worked pretty well, but since the last year it seems to shutdown frequently on its own. Just before it shuts down I can hear the fan whirring furiously. It seems its a heating problem but I could be wrong. I was wondering if others also faced something similar and if there is a solution to this?

Turn your laptop over.
Remove the battery.
Remove the cover over the CPU heatsink/fan. (upper right)
Blow out any dust/debris with compressed air.
Dust builds up in the fins of the heatsink, and may cause overheating.

as your mean if i set JOB_QUEUE_PROCESSES to a bigger value,then my question will be resolved?
I only have 5 jobs and three of them run at the same time ,the interval is 10 minutes

I frequently have to re-setup my laptop for Firefox Sync - what am I doing that removes the registration?

I periodically run CCleaner and I am guessing it is removing something that is required for Firefox Sync. If I knew what it was, I would stop doing it.
