Frequent freezes after MobileMe update... any cure?

Since the MobileMe update yesterday, my 2.66GHz Dual Core Intel Mac Pro (running Leopard 10.5.4) has been freezing for up to 60 seconds at a time. It has happened across all applications, including the Finder. It does not crash the OS or applications... it's just like a long brain freeze. Sometimes I get the beach ball, sometimes not. I've tried:
• Disk Repair
• permissions repair
• disconnecting external FireWire drive
• turning off MobileMe syncing
• trashing Finder prefs
• zapping PRAM
Anybody else experiencing this? Could the MobileMe update be a coincidence or is that the likely suspect? Fixes, anyone?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Usually new updates are like this, some times users like it, some times they have problems with it. Happens with all kinds of updates.

    ps. IE works as usual

Problem solved from prior post. Firefox had become blocked somehow by McAfee firewall. Set to full access. Now works perfectly.

  • NBA2K12 freezing after IOS6 update

My nba2k12 freezing after I update to IOS6

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

  • Can't Mail Contents of this Page after MobileMe update!

In Safari, you used to be able to do a "cmd I" or go to the File Menu and go down to "Mail Contents of this Page" select it and it would paste in to Mail a screen shot of the Safari page you were on.
Now when you do this, after the MobileMe update has been run and installed. Safari no longer can find the Mail app. Here is a copy of the text of the error message that you get now.
"Safari couldn’t create an email message because it couldn’t locate an email application.
You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages. To do so, you need to install Mail using the Mac OS X installation CDs."
I'm on a MacBook 2 Ghz INtel Core 2 Duo, with MAC OS X (10.5.2), Mail version 3.4 (last modified 7/11/08) Safari version 3.1.2 (last modified 6/30/08), MobileMe version 5.1 in the Preference Pane.
The suggested solution of reinstalling mail would not seem to work as it would reinstall older versions of mail that would not have the functionality of being use MobileMe. It would seem to be that a Safari path is what is required to have the code know that the Mail app has been renamed(?).

Hi, I'm on 10.5.4 I must have mistyped my OS version number. I took the version number for MobileMe from the About This Mac information. I was surprised like you see a version number of 5.1 I have run Software update as well just now to see if any newer versions of my software are there. None I'm up to date.
I do know that when I ran the MobileMe updater it said that it fixes problems in Mail, right now some things in various software applications still refer to .Mac. I still think that somewhere in the Mail app that the name was changed, so that Safari is looking for the old name in a string of code that executes the placing a copy of the current page in Mail as an outgoing mail message.
As for that activity bar in Safari, I guess I have never noticed it until now, on a laptop the bottom of the page is some times obscured by the dock which I have at the bottom. I truly noticed it more when I ran the MobileMe page.

  • Unable to boot after MobileMe update

I just yesterday activated my .Mac (MobileMe) account. In the process, System Update wanted to install a recent update, as well as the .Mac --> MobileMe update. After letting it install, my system would no longer boot, even with the left-shift (safe mode) boot. I tried numerous times, including using the command-V key to see the text. Unfortunately, I was not able to read the boot text because the system would auto-power off shortly after the CPU halted. Booting from the CD, and running Disk Utility showed no problems with the disk. I had to do a complete OS reinstall to get running again. After that, I reapplied all the updates, except the final MobileMe one (which I'm scared to apply now!), and I'm back up and running.
My question is, do you think that was just a fluke, and I should go ahead and install the MobileMe update anyway? Or keep avoiding the update? Anyone have a similar experience?

Yeah, it was a fluke, something about your system wasn't right (had you ever repaired your permissions?).
Since you already bypassed any method of repair that might have been able to help salvage your OS, there's really no reason that you shouldn't go ahead and install every update offered by System Update.
Push it to the Max with a fresh install. Just make sure to repair your permissions after the big system updates. With a fresh install you've got nothing to lose. Find out there are problems with an installation before you invest a lot of time with it.
You might consider a full Time Machine backup so that you can restore without having to do all of the updates again.
Your other option would be to ignore the MobileMe service entirely as your only chance of getting it to work properly will be if you do get the fixes for this very buggy service.

  • HTC M8 lagging and freezing after Lollipop update

I've had this phone for about a year now with no problems. Ever since the update about 3 weeks ago, it is literally to the point where I hate using my phone. These are the problems I've been having:
    - Takes several minutes to turn on.
    - Some apps, eg. BBC News and ColorNote will take over 10 - 15 minutes to boot after my phone is turned on. The icons come up grey and when I press it, it will say the app is not installed.
    - The phone runs SLOW. When I press the messages icon, it will take about 30 seconds for the text messages to even appear. After that I'll need to wait another 10 - 15 seconds when I press the name of the person to read their text message.
    - Any kind of typing produces a very long lag. Text messages, internet, Google maps. Any time I type the phone freezes for several seconds, sometimes 10 or longer and then it will catch up with what I'm saying.
    - The battery drains very quickly, even when I'm not using it and have closed all of my apps. The phone can be fully charged and an hour later it's at 60 - 70% even if I'm not using it. This has never happened. I used to be able to use it for a day at least before it needed charging. Now I'm carrying my charger everywhere and constantly plugging it in or else it'll be dead within hours.
These are the biggest problems I can think of. When I call Verizon I'm told I should try uninstalling apps and logging out of ones I'm not using like gmail etc. This has not helped. I've tried resetting but from what I'm seeing that isn't helping either. Is anyone else with the HTC M8 having any of these problems after the update??? Is there a way to go back to the previous version?

About all you can do once you take the update is to either run a System Cache Clear followed by another or Run back to back factory resets to make sure there isn't much left of the Last OS but I will add in doing a Factory reset it may or may not work but for now it's about the only thing that might work that is until something of a new update replaces the one that was just released..
I've told members before and it goes like this with anything if what your using is not broke or running oddly don't go out and change or try and fixit at least till you find some evidence that what your about Download or have Downloaded is fully functional I have not update my one M8 and until I know all issues have been minimized I won't
    Good Luck.!

  • The iPod Freezes after Firmware Update 1.2

I just updated my ipod to the firmware version 1.2 and instantly after the update the ipod started to mal-function.
I hope to god this isnt going to become one of those issues that is overlooked by Apple.
If anyone has any suggestions, or ways to fix this or a similar problem, please do not hesitate to post.

I too had this happen to me. Ipod works great before update. I install itunes7 and update firmware and then it starts freezing during song/podcast or video playback. It has to be reset by holding Menu and center button. I tried a restore on it thinking it didn't update correctly. I re-synced by entire library (which takes a while). That didn't help. So I went back to 1.1.2 update
All I did was uninstall Itunes7 and then got the 06-28 update from the another site and installed and restored my ipod. Reinstalled intunes7 and unchecked update automatically. And re-sync all my library.
3 hours I will never get back. But my ipod works again.
I posted a story to digg about this in the hopes of get Apple to respond that there are major problems with 1.2 update.
    Please digg my story

  • Finder Crash loop after mobileMe update, other apps crash too

    Hi,
after the mobileMe update 1.1 the Finder keeps crashing in a loop. iCal crashes on launch. iTunes crashes on launch. Some more third party apps are crashing with the same stack back trace as the Finder (CUnicodeTextension::CUnicodeTextension() in the main thread). All crashes occur reproducibly with the same stack back trace .
This happens in every account on the computer.
Is there any way to un- or reinstall the mobileMe update? There doesn't seem to be a download link...

Nobody gives an answer. Apple Care hasn't got a clue (as usual) but Apple has the time to censor messages on this forum.
I've lost about 8 hours work by now.
Maybe the subject of this question should be changed?
I've tried: pram-boot, secure boot (doesn't work), removing the battery, boot with install disk 1 and checking the HD and volume repair and privileges check....
    nothing helps.
last updates that caused the problem:
    AOS and MobileMe yesterday!

  • Why does my system freeze after ever update from Firefox...and has gotten very slow

My computer freezes during or after every update that come in automatically recently. It has also gotten extremely slow at the same time.

Your setup looks like it should really fly.
Often when people have serious slowdowns like you mention, it comes down to one of two things:
    a) Some problem with the user's account. One way to test if this is the case is to create a new admin user and try running FCP X from this new account. If the same projects that were slow behave well in this account you'll know that some setting, or cache, or login item, or whatnot in your own account is responsible.
    b) Some problem with a plugin. If there is a plugin that you use all the time, and maybe was not updated for the current version, and can cause slowdowns, then maybe you think it is the machine. See what plugins you are using, and run a test project without them. Does it run as fast as it should?

  • Why frequent crashes after iso5 update on ipad1 and iphone3gs

After I updated to iso5 my ipad1 and iphone3gs are experiencing frequent crashes. I find that my wife's iphone4 and my daughter's 4s are working flawlessly.

I just purchased a brand new MacBook Air
I would recommend walking it directly in to the nearest Apple Store and logging your issue with staff there...don't wait.

  • Anyone else having to re-do Mail Rules after MobileMe updates?

Hi, everyone. After making the MobileMe updates, my mail wasn't being filtered to the right folders. I saw that I had to reset the rules and was wondering if anyone else experienced the same issues? There was a 2nd update that happened yesterday, and I had to go through the same process of re-directing my Mail Rules again this morning. I was able to fix things manually, but does anyone know of a way where we don't have to keep resetting our Mail Rules after future MobileMe updates? Thanks!

which LTE app do you use?  does this work for you and your connectivity issues?
i have the LTE OnOff app and it only allows switching between 3G and 4G which doesnt help with when the phone is stuck on 1x and im on a 'CDMA auto' setting, for example...  switching to allow LTE doesn't change the connectivity to 4G, let alone 3G for that matter, when im only getting 1x in a 3G or 4G area...  only a manual restart works...  oh well
    EDIT
actually, i can switch between all 3 options!  sorry!  will try this instead of a manual restart
I was using LTE on off but I have switched to Network both do the same thing and take you to the Phone Info menu that where you to change your preferred network type. I just like that Network has a cleaner looking icon and doesn't pop up instructions.
The CDMA auto setting is 1X so if that's what you have it set to you are only going to get 1X. The setting I use when I don't want to worry about losing connection is CDMA auto (PRL) and that will keep it on 3G unless 3G is unavailable. Sometime when I'm set to CDMA +LTE/EvDo auto I have problems with my phone hanging up on a poor or none existent 4G signal and wont switch to 3G that's when I will switch to CDMA auto (PRL) to get off the failing 4G signal. It usually takes a 10 seconds for the 3G to pop up. This is my experience with the Thunderbolt I know a lot of people are having different experiences and have their different trick but I find this works most of the time. Good luck

  • My macbook freezes after last update.. any idea how to fix that?

I did last update on App store and now my macbook get slow and also freezes any idea how to fix it?

Try reconnecting with App Store to see if there is yet another update available, if yes, update your mac to the latest Apple is offering at the moment.
As for slow downs and freezes, try these steps:
    1.  Run Disk Utility and Repair Permissions then verify / repair disk if needed.
    2.  Next Follow these steps:
    Shut down your Mac.
Turn on the computer and immediately hold down Command (⌘), Option, P, and R keys simultaneously.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
    3.  If all else fails download and run "Onyx" for Mountain Lion.

  • Dynamically linked After Effects comps causing Premiere to freeze (after latest updates)

Normally in a dynamic link, any changes made in After Effects would be displayed in Premiere within a few seconds. However, after the latest software updates... it now takes 1-2 minutes and the Premiere interface is completely frozen during that time.
    Anybody else having similar issues?
    -Pete

Hi, thanks for the link but I'm having a different issue. My Premiere interface actually freezes and I'm unable to use Premiere for 1-2 minutes.
App Nap is disabled for all Adobe apps and I do frequenly empty my Adobe Media Cache and After Effects disk cache and it doesn't prevent the freezing.
Or sometimes just having a dynamically linked After Effects comp on the timeline slows Premiere down to the point where even scrolling through assets in my project panel is very jerky.
