Frequent gmail Application Specific Password reset
Hello all!
Over the last couple weeks, my gmail login which I use through all my iOS devices and mail on my MBP with 10.8.2 has been having issues on the computer. Almost on a daily basis, I am having to reset my password for the gmail servers. I dutifully use the two step protection, and only recently have I needed to change the app specific password for mac mail on an almost daily routine. None of my other devices have issues. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Josh
Hello cwang and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Sorry to hear you're having an issue with your Gmail account.
To clarify, you added your Gmail account as outlined in KB33504 successfully, but daily you are being asked to re-validate your account?
Under Settings>About>Category OS what is your software version?
Thanks!

GMail (application specific password) on Mac Mail Keeps prompting for password
i keep entering an "application specific password" on my MAC PRO computer running Lion (10.7.5) and it keeps getting lost somehow every so often. sometimes after a month and sometimes after a couple of days. this means i have to go back to the Google Application Specific Password site and generate a new login and put it back in the prompt for my gmail account.
any ideas on how to fix this or what is going on? works fine on my mac book pro.

Turned on application specific password and now Mail won't connect with Gmail to send - SMTP
Worried about email security, I turned on and received an application specific password for my Mac Mail program. It works to receive email but the SMTP is offline and does not send mail. What shall I do?

Google application specific password issues
I have been using TBird both at home and work for couple of weeks. Last week I had to update the google calendar provider to version 1.02. Since then, I have been having problems with passwords on my work machine since then. I do use Google App Specific passwords. TBird keeps asking for a different password for IMAP (incoming) and SMTP (Outgoing). I have generated and entered passwords multiple times and also uninstalled and reinstalled TBird. I'm not having this problem on my home machine. Both machines are Win 8 64-Bit ultimate. I only have a single password on my home machine. I have tried both a single and dual password for work. Suggestions?
https://support.google.com/mail/answer/1173270?hl=en
You should only need one app specific password for both incoming and smtp. When applying a new password, remove the old stored password for mailbox and smtp and then when you get mail or send it would ask for the password. Enter password and select the option for password manager to remember the passwords.
Please note that you only need an Application Specific Password if you use a device such as a phone to access gmail and therefore set up the 2 step verification process.
If you never use anything other than your computer to access emails then you do not need 2 step verification and therefore do not need Application Specific password. But you may need to specify that you use a less secure apps. See info:

Outlook for iPad application-specific password
I am testing out Microsoft Outlook for iPad and also Outlook for iPhone. I have downloaded the latest versions of the apps on both devices. I have iOS 8.1.3 installed on both devices. The behavior question, however, is with two-step verification, and application-specific passwords. I initially setup MS Outlook for iPad, and generated an app-specific password for it, entered it, and I was then able to access my iCloud email via Outlook for iPad (I have an iPad Air). I then setup MS Outlook on my iPhone 6 Plus, generated an app-specific password for it, entered it, and I was then able to access my iCloud email via Outlook on the iPhone. I later went back to my iPad Air, and it rejected my password for iCloud. I generated another app-specific password, entered it, and I could then access my iCloud email on the iPad Air. Later, I attempted to access iCloud email on my iPhone, and it rejected the password. I had to then repeat the process, but then the same cycle occurred again. I then revoked all previously created app-specific passwords, closed both MS Outlook programs on the iPad Air and iPhone 6 Plus, and generated a new app-specific password. I opened MS Outlook for iPad, entered the newly generated password on it, and then opened MS Outlook for iPhone, and entered the SAME password on it. Both are now operating using the same password. Is this normal? I ask because gmail app-specific passwords allows me to generate a separate password for each device used, which I check using the same the same program -- MS Outlook. Further, I have Parallels installed on my MacBook Pro 15, along with Microsoft Outlook for Windows 2013, generated an app-specific password for this, and it is unaffected by the app-specific password generated for the iPad and iPhone. All work fine. I am just throwing this out there to the community to see if this is normal for the Apple app-specific password generator when using two-step verification.
If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website. You must change the password for both the incoming and the outgoing mail server. You'll need another password for contacts.

How do I get gmail's application specific password to work on iPod mail?
I have an iPod touch 3 generation and I just signed up for gmail's 2 step verification and it said I need a special password for the mail system on my iPod. They gave me a 16 letter password and I think I plugged it into the right spot but it doesn't work and even when I put my actual password in it doesn't update my mail. It hasn't updated my mail on my iPod since I started the 2 step verification on gmail. What should I do?
Look at this Google search page for how others solved the problem.

all my account (GMail and otherwise) are constantly having problems in mail and i would like to resolve this single issue before i move on to troubleshooting other problems.

Using Google 2FA and app-specific password--can receive but not send
I'm using Mail to check my Gmail account. I use 2FA on my Google account and therefore use an app-specific password for Apple Mail. I receive mail fine (although sometimes the message doesn't get pushed to Mail, it seems...maybe this is a different issue) but I can't send a message. I get this error:
...but I've already entered my app-specific password and there's nowhere to enter it. The link in the error message is dead.If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website.

GMail. Changed password on PC email account, and did same on IPhone 4 Settings for Gmail. App opens but tells me username or password for Gmail is incorrect. Have ensured both are correct...still no access
If you have 2-step verification set up for your gmail account, you will need to generate an application-specific password for your iphone applications (because those apps apparently don't support 2-step verification).
Go into your google account, look in accounts/security/2-step verification, there is a link called "Manage your application specific passwords" Use that to generate a special password for your iphone apps and use that instead of your usual gmail password on your phone. -
Won't configure my Gmail account says password or login wrong
I'm trying to install Thunderbird. It keeps telling me "Configuration Cannot Be Verified" My email and password are correct. I am using POP
On the Blog and News Feed, it shows it has contacted my account but nothing is happening.
I tried this yesterday and got the same thing. I did go to Gmail and change my account to POP but that made no difference.
What is the problem? I'm using Mavericks 10.9.4Why do people give answers that lead nowhere and waste other peoples effort and time??? Here we are supposed to help each other, with solutions that we have tried and seen that they WORK.
The problem here is that google needs a '''new''' password in order to allow various clients apps to operate. So, if you get an application specific password from here,
https://support.google.com/mail/answer/1173270?hl=en
and use it instead of your gmail pwd in the client app, it will sync straight away -
Portal Password Reset Application In webdynpro for ABAP
Hello Friends,
I am new to WDA . I want to create a Password Reset application in WDA like this
[http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f0c09b9d-52e0-2d10-3981-86bfa8e19dc3?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true]
Can someone pls give the solution , how to start??
Thanks in advance
HimaniI am afraid that this is not going to be possible for you. From WebDynpro for ABAP, you do not have portal API's to do that.
May be an idea ,If you have SSO in place you could try to call some FM's in r3 side to change the password in r3 system and this would synchronize the UME in portal. -
Good Evening TechNet Experts,
I found a ton of out-dated material on this but was looking for something more updated, thorough, and well instructed. Need instructions/guide on setting up a Password Reset Portal for end-users on the SCSM portal
WITHOUT Orchestrator.
1. This will need to work with SharePoint 2010, SCSM 2012, and ADFS.
2. Users need to be able to enter their email / username and click reset to send the password reset link / temporary password to the users email.
3. Users need this function BEFORE logging in.... I will link to the web part right on my login page. I have seen many "Request Offering" reset pages... this doesn't make sense to me
as the user must be able to login before resetting... defeating the purpose and rendering this useless.
Thanks in advance, look forward to reading your thoughts on this.Thomas! Hello again :)
What country do you live in? If I ever visit I promise to buy you dinner :D
Thanks for your reply. I see what your saying, I spoke to management and we made a decision to ditch the approach of giving the customer complete control over a reset - the only easy solution is FIM and this costs too much.
We decided to use a web-part that would require the user to login with a temporary password provided by our helpdesk analysts, then click on the password reset web-part to undergo the reset. I looked at the tool you provided but am not 100% sure how to deploy
it - I am not yet too familiar with this stuff. I also looked at a web-part provided by ITaCS (http://changepassword.codeplex.com/) but this didn't work and ran into a bug. Currently in contact with the developer
to see if they can get it fixed but meanwhile, how would I go about deploying the solution you posted?
To test it anyways, I extracted the files to my IIS directory and added the site as a .Net 4.0 Integrated Pipeline App Pool. I also configured the site to connect as a domain admin user. However, when I launch I kept running to an authentication/permissions
error.
Description: An error occurred while accessing the resources required to serve this request. You might not have permission to view the requested resources.
Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\PassCore'.
I added permissions on that folder for the domain account running the web app but still same error.
I disabled authentication completely under system.web/authentication and still solved the permissions issue but I got this compilation error:
Server Error in '/' Application.

Finally, I switched to connect as an Application user (pass-through authentication) but now the site just keeps loading forever and nothing happens. I checked event log for issues but it seems I'm not generating any errors after this final configuration
attempt... Not sure where to go from here.
Thanks a million for your help Thomas! -

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
The application team wants to know if they can reset the DB link password for all their applications(dev, test & prod) at the same time.
Since lots of apps have these exact kind of DBlinks that need a password reset....can anyone suggest what would be a good approach to tackle this?I'm not completely sure that I understand the problem...
Assuming that a database link uses a fixed username & password to access a remote database rather than, say, using the current user, you can change the password that is associated with the database link. You'd need to change the password in every database where the link exists (though dev, test, and production databases normally have database links to other dev, test, and production databases rather than all having database links to the same database). You can obviously log on to each database in succession to change the password (i.e. log in to prod, change the password, log in to test, change the password, etc.). That's not literally simultaneously but it can happen in a short time window. Is there really a problem if it takes a couple minutes before the database link in dev is working again? It is, after all, a development environment.
Normally, if you're going to use fixed usernames & passwords in database links, those accounts are created specifically for the database link and the passwords for those accounts never change precisely to avoid coordinating password changes on dozens of databases.

Password resetting by itself...
My Dad recently bought a 17 inch iMac (intel) and account passwords randomly frequently (4 times in the last 2 months) reset. He is unable to log in to his account, or do anything that requires administrative access.
After it first happened (I reset the password with the Tiger disc) then I enabled remote login and set up ssh authentication keys to log in automatically (with no password). This allowed me to reset his password when it mysteriously resets by itself.
What is causing these random password resets? How can I fix his system so passwords cannot be mysteriously reset? Has anyone ever heard of this happening. Any insight into this problem would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Mike.
iMac 17" (intel) Mac OS X (10.4.7)Ed,
This information is stored in the Netinfo Database. There are many instances when I have recommended someone delete and restore their Netinfo Database, but usually because the cannot lo in, and they cannot reset their password successfully. With the NIDB, it's usually all or nothing; it is either working, or it's not.
If yours is a problem with the NIDB, it will be the first that I have seen that is "intermittent" like this. Something like this would lead me to believe that some data (in this case a password) is being written to a specific location on the HD that is losing data. There is a name for this: Disk Error.
So, I'm going to first recommend tat you boot to your OS X install disk, choose a language, then open Disk Utility from the "Utilities" menu. Select the startup disk, and click on "Repair Disk" in the First Aid pane.
Let's see what, if anything, this reports. If Disk Utility gives your HD a clean bill of health, yet the problem persists, I can have you replace your NIDB. This process is pretty easy, as long as you can follow clear instructions, but I see no benefit to doing it unless and until we are certain your HD is OK.
