Frequent Hangs

Hi
I'm using an MBP with OSX 10.5.4 and get frequent hangs when closing all kind of different programms. "Mail" always hangs when I try to close it, sometimes also "System preferences", "Activity Monitor", "Addressbook" and a couple of 3rd-party-programs.
How can I figure out, where the problem comes from? I found the Log "Hang reporter", but it doesn't say too much.

    Hi Experts

I suspect my OS is not loaded 100% correctly.
    My device is information
    OS version: 8.0.10328.78

    HW revision number: 1.0.0.0
    Radio Sw version: 1.0.202132.3
    Chip SoC version: 8960.
another interesting thing is after this GDR2 update my 4G version is no more available.
please suggest what should be my setps to make this device stable.it was stable with the old FW but after GDR2 it is not stabel. i love Lumia/WP8. it is 100% fit with my life style.
i dont want to take this device to local nokia care agina. i dont trust them. please advice how i can improve my device without taking it to Nokia care.
    thanks for every expert comments.
    regards

You can try resettng it but if it doesnt resolve, I suggest you bring it back to the care point so they can reflash it. I suspect they may have used the wrong version.

  • Firefox 18 on Mountain Lion frequently hangs with spinning ball for 1 min while a page is loading, or while opening a new tab. No tabs useable

Firefox 18 on Mountain Lion. Frequently hangs for minutes with spinning ball, usually while a page is loading (status bar says "loading..." "waiting..."), but sometimes just while on the same page. Other tabs and windows are not useable, even though only one tab is waiting. I usually have 2-4 windows open with several tabs each. Behavior is no different in safe mode. This is making the browser unusable.
In the past this happened and I've reinstalled or created a new clean profile, but it always recurs.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

I have one iPad 3. But it is frequently hanging. More over the sound disappears. I have to restart the device to bring back the sound. Today I can't even restart as none of the icons are responding to touch. Why this is happening?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • Photoshop CC Frequently Hangs

I'm having an issue with Photoshop CC where it will frequently hang (rotating set of dots instead of a cursor), and I can't save, quit, or perform any other function, and have to use Force Quit in order to regain my session.  This happens even when it's the only application running.
I've never had this issue before - I'm just doing some simple paintings on a small canvas (<1024x1024), and can't work for longer than 10min without Photoshop hanging on me.  It's at the point where I have autosave set to every 2min, that's how frequently it can happen.
    I'm using a Macbook Retina running OS X 10.8.4

Before creating the new user account, I wanted to make sure I could duplicate the error in my default user account first - I could not.
What's different from today and yesterday are the peripherals I'm using.  Yesterday I was connected to a Thunderbolt Display, and using a Wacom Intuos5 as input.
Today I am not connected to the display, and am using a bluetooth mouse, and haven't had any problems with Photoshop at all.
I am not at home to test this (but will update once I get the chance), but I'm wondering if the problem is a result of rendering on an external monitor, or the Tablet drivers, or a combination of both?

  • Frequent Hangs & beeps on restart

My laptop has ATi Radeon HD 4500 series. I have xf86-video-ati installed.
The laptop hangs frequently, by freeze I mean Everything hangs. I cant boot switch to console using Ctrl+Alt+F{1..6}.
After I do a hard reset, I get beeps 2-3-4-3 which means "Display non-disposable segments" for my Phoenix motherboard.
There are times when I dont get a freezed system but I get kernel panic like this -> http://i.imgur.com/OKZdx.jpg
Sometimes, it also happens that I get the above screen at startup too.
I have tried searching google but I couldnt do anything much with that beep-code. (I am also not able to understand what that actually means).
I also had catalyst-hook installed earlier, in that also I had the same issue of hangs but I never got kernel panic.
    Summary:
With xf86-video-ati: Kernel panic + frequent hangs + 2-3-4-3 beeps on startup.
With catalyst-hook: frequent hangs + 2-3-4-3 beeps on startup.

lagagnon wrote:Beep codes mean you have a hardware fault - nothing to do with the OS. Those beep codes and kernel panics to me suggest faulty RAM. You can run memtest from the Arch CD or any other Live Linux CD or the UltimateBootCD to test your RAM - but I suspect that is your problem.
Windows7 runs on the same laptop without any issues so its sure to be some problem with faulty device drivers..

This happened a long time ago when I was still using XP. There were a few possibilities, but unfortunately unable to help much as we cannot see your screen, setup, programs etc.
Suggestion, in order of what I think is possible reasons
    1) If you have 2xRam, swap their locations and run ram diagnostic, faulty memory?
    2) Plug out your network cable and turn off wifi and do the shutdown, sympton remains?
    3) Check your firefox addson for anything that syncs, eg bookmark syncing, backup etc
    4) Download ccleaner, clean the registry and empty all the trash etc
    5) Download and use a free tool call ProcessTamer, this one works for XP, it sometimes helps regulate those CPU usuage, "idling process" or something
    6) Uninstall your java, download the latest and reinstall it. There was an add on that fouls up IE that casue all the slowness, unsure if your installation of firefox has it.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 10.7.5 frequently hanging programs and freezing.

For over a week my system has frequently been hanging all its programs and then spinning the beach ball of death when you try and click around or repeat actions. It happens always after it’s been woken up and then later too.
-It sorts itself out but after about 5-10 minutes.
-A couple of times I've woken it from sleep mode but the screen never wakes up, the light isn't snoozing anymore but it's all black. That never recovers and I have to force shut down.
-Occasionally while it's hanging, the sound from a browser carries on even though the screen has frozen- within a few minutes that stops too.
-I haven't made any significant changes recently and it's not associated with any particular program; it can happen through anything.
-Here are the specs and more information:
I'm usually running several programs but none with a really high activity usage. My activity monitor usually looks like this, it fluctuates, but never anything above 12-15%:
I use a 1TB external hard drive to back up Time Machine, never had any problems with it.
    What I've tried:
-I've run Disk Utility (Verify Disk and Verify Disk Permissions) on everything listed and it's found no problems (except on a disk I've ejected and still had problems since, see Changes below)
    e.g.
-Checked Activity Monitor to check nothing's running like crazy.
-I've run Sophos Anti-Virus software over everything and it's found nothing
-Cleared the cache and emptied the trash
-Restarted numerous times after applying any changes.
-Look for MacKeeper or MacProtector but haven't got such malware.
-Got rid of any Damaged Files from Devices: Macintosh HD and emptied trash
-Deleted The Sims 2.app and all related folders (see below) and restarted (which never actually started so I had to force shutdown again and restart.
    - Installed and ran Memory Cleaner app, which freed up some memory. But problem still occuring.
    Any recent changes:
Nothing major; racking my brains I can think of:
-I've had iPhoto open more freqently than usual, but even when it's closed and after restarting I'm still getting the hanging programs
-I had The Sims 2 disk in, and started the program once, it worked fine. When I was running Disk Utility it found an issue regarding an 'unused node', but it couldn't repair it. So I ejected the disk (which took a minute to respond), and have still had the problems after rebooting.
-A month or so ago I had a significant problem on Disk Utility so I had to reinstall Mac OS X, Lion 10.7.5. But it has still worked fine since then until a few days ago.
    Please help!

  • Itunes + Windows 7 64 bit - very frequently hangs

Have latest update of Itunes installed (the one from the other day) - but all varients of 9 have been doing same thing for me
bascially randomly, sometimes on start of Itunes, sometimes 1 min in, and especially if downloading any Podcasts etc Itunes completely hangs, and hangs the whole computer/Windows - have to do a hard restart
if I set to "compatability mode XP SP3" - I don't get anywhere near as many hangs - in fact mostly is stable, but is slower, and I can't do drag and drop and all sorts of other things
unselect compatability mode and very very frequent crashes/hangs. Itunes hangs whether Ipod Touch is attached or not
no other program whatsoever on my computer completely hangs the OS
have performed complete reinstalls of Windows 7 in meantime, and always have the same problem
PC is a Q6600, an Asus P5B Deluxe mobo, 6 gig RAM, 4890 graphics
    any ideas please ?
    thanks, Mark.

I had tried some links I found on internet.
What worked finally was to disable all add-ons using Help --> Restart with add-ons Disabled. With this way I verified with all the add-ons disabled there was on performance problem (like my second machine with Windows 7 32 bit).
After that, I started to enable the add-ons starting from the more important for me. It still worked with no problem. I left disabled some non-important for me.
I am not sure whether the problem was from those that I left out or whether the whole process "corrected or reset" something. The result is the same. Firefox 4 in Win7 64 works like in Win7 32.

If a reboot is clearing some of the problem, you ought to check the capacity and use of your hard disk. How full is this? Anything less than about 20% space may begin to slow things down.
As for the Flash plugin, these do tend to slow Macs down with some sites. You might want to try Click to Flash to restrict the use. And as for CPU use, I saw 120% on a friend's MacBook Pro a couple of days back: too many Facebook games running at the same time.

  • Firefox frequently hangs when loading websites with Flash video.

Firefox frequently completely freezes when viewing Flash video and the only way to release it is to manually kill the plugin-container process.
This have been verified with several Firefox versions, upto and including 3.6.10 and upto the lastest Flash release on systems running Windows 7 64-bit. This have been tested on multiple installations, different systems and on clean installations. However only tested on 64-bit HP systems so far.
Running Firefox with "Run as Administrator" enabled or with compatibility mode set to "Windows XP SP2" seems to solve the problem, but that solution is not good considering the security and performance problems following with that.

I have done some more testing and the problem seems to have been found:
Windows 7 64-bit with Firefox and Flash works fine until HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite is installed. That combination makes Flash video playback hang frequently. Uninstallation of HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite fixes the problem.
Flash video playback works fine with Windows 7 64-bit and HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite using the browsers Internet Explorer and Chrome instead of Firefox.
At the moment I can not tell if the error is with Firefox, Flash or HP Protect Tools.
I am using the latest versions of Firefox, Flash and HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite at the time of writing, including latest Windows security patches.
HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite installation file name used for this is sp48447.exe.

Ever since I installed Firefox 3.6.6, "hanging", which hardly happened before, has become so frequent that it is very annoying. My use habit and pattern has not changed. Should I just re-install the earlier version?

Without knowing what's causing it, and therefore what options you have, I can't advise whether it's your 'best' option.
Have you investigated whether it's an add-on or a plug-in - particularly Flash? Have you tried safe-mode? Have you tried anything?
