Frequent MSTP topology changes on SF-300-08 and SG-300-10

Hi,
I am trying to configure MSTP on Layer-2 network at work. We have multiple switches connected on Wireless point-to-point links with redundent links.
MSTP is configured with multiple regions. All the servers are located in RegionA and other regions are connected to RegionA via multiple links.
There are 3 SG-300-10 switches in RegionA  --- SwitchA_1, SwitchA_2 and SwitchA_3.
One of the simple regions (RegionB) has a single SF-300-08 switch (SwitchB) connected to SwitchA_2 via port e7 and SwitchA_3 via port e8. Hello Time, Forward Delay and Max Age are at their default values of 2, 15 and 20 respectively. The link between SwitchB (port e7) ---- SwitchA_2 is the primary link with cost 200,000 and the link between SwitchB (port e8) ---- SwitchA_3 is the backup link with cost 500,000.
The log on SwitchB is shows in the table below. As it is seen from the table there are frequent topology changes for very short duration (1-4 seconds) before the topology settles back to the configured one. (Primary link forwarding and secondary link blocking). During this time there have been no link failures reported.
Same thing is also observed within RegionA (SwitchA_1, SwitchA_2 and SwitchA_3 are connected to each other).
How to stop these frequent topology changes? The topology changes within RegionA causes a lot of PPPoE sessions to reset and re-establish.
Is there any way to find out what triggers these topology changes? Has anyone experienced similar behaviour?

The best way to get this resolved is to open a case with the Support Center and reference this thread. We would need to have a look at your configs to determine the issue. One thing that would likely work is for you to assign a different STP priority on each switch for each STP group. You can open a case by calling the following:

  • MSTP Topology Change not in Logging

    Hello,
we are trying to get rid ofsome MSTP problems at our campus, for any reason we get 10-15 topology changes per day.
With spanning-tree portfast enabled on all ports, we are still getting 5-10 changes per day.
Now i am trying to get a trap whenever a topology change appears to our cpi, but this event didn't even appears in the logging of the switch.
    Configured Trap:
snmp-server enable traps bridge newroot topologychange
    Any suggestions?
    Greetings

    We found it:
Trap ist called "The value of vlanTrunkPortDynamicStatus"

  • Differences between SF 300-24P and SF 300-24MP??

    Hello all,
    First post here, very excited!
On to my question as I cannot seem to find specifics on this.
Besides the MP having support for PoE+, does the 24P have a full 24-port PoE budget or only 12 ports at a time?
What other differences between the two.
I currently have 10 APs plugged into a SF 300-24P and want to add 10 more. PoE consumption is around 3500mW for each AP.
    Thanks,
    Pasquale

Hi and welcome to the forum.
According to the data sheet, all 24 ports support POE.
have a look at table-1 in this link (under power over Ethernet) section:

  • Topology change not propagated to interface

    Hi all,
Had a requirement that called for a topology change (adding a physical schema to existing data server and updating the logical schema to point to this new physical schema). In the end, this change is meant to eliminate the use of LKM. This affects, say 10 interfaces, which are being executed through a package scenario. Now when I regenerate the scenario after making the topology change and re-execute, I see the interfaces still using the LKM. BUT if I go and open the interfaces, make a minor change (e.g. move a datastore around), save and close them back, regenerate the package scenario and execute it, I can see the changes are there and it's not using the LKM. This is obviously tedious if we have to do it for hundreds of interfaces. Given this, is there anyway to propagate the topology change from the back end to all the interfaces? Maybe an update or something on the repository tables? It's bizarre since when I query the interfaces in the SNP_POP table, I see that I_TRT_KLM column is NULL which presumably means it's not using an LKM so I'm not sure why from the front end, we have to open and close the interfaces to see the change come through.
    Any ideas why?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I believe what each Interface needs is to have the sourceset "recomputed". This is what happens when you open the Interface, click on the mapping tab, then over to the flow tab - which is why, after you save, it works. You should be able to write a Groovy script or Java code using the ODI SDK to handle this in a batch.
Take a look at the InteractiveInterfaceHelperWithActions class. There is a method to check for dirty sourcesets and another to compute the sourcesets.

  • Spanning Tree Topology Changes notifications

    Hello All,
I've configured RSTP in one of our branch divisions because we decided to add a backup wireless bridge in case one of our fibers gets cut out. Everything is working great , i am getting the desired result, however, i wanted to also syslog the trap msg when a topology change occurs and send it by email. The problem is, i cannot get the root switch to log such an event.
The root switch is a Catalyst 6509, i have tried every level of logging possible, to no avail. I know the trap msg is a notice so i have set my logging to informational, but no change.
I know on c3560's and 3750 i can define to log spanning-tree events, and on my lab setup i do get the trap msgs to my syslog server and email.
What am i missing?! How can i have my Root switch send me that syslog msg?
    I do appreciate your help
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Sarbjit-2014
Thank you for your response, i dont get any traps msg's at all, doing a sh log on the catalyst will not show me those events.
Below is the output of my sh log ,for obvious reasons i have masked the logging host
Syslog logging: enabled (0 messages dropped, 2 messages rate-limited, 0 flushes,
     0 overruns)
Console logging: level debugging, 608 messages logged
Monitor logging: level debugging, 23 messages logged
Buffer logging: level debugging, 608 messages logged
        Exception Logging: size (4096 bytes)
Count and timestamp logging messages: disabled
Trap logging: level notifications, 649 message lines logged
Logging to x.x.x.x, 560 message lines logged
I also tried to enter the command spanning-tree logging, but it doesnt seem to be available
    Thanks

  • How Root bridge notifies it Topology change ?

    Hi Friends ..
when there is any topology change in non-root bridge , it will generate the TCN bpdu and it will send to all bridges , once root bridge sends the TC bpdu it will flush out the mac table in 15 seconds. What happens when there is a topology change in the root bridge itself ? Will it directly starts the TC bpdu or it will also start the TCN bpdu ?

My personal guess is that there will be a STP recalculation and not simple TCN frame exchange. If a link on a designated port fails, then that port will no longer be in a forwarding state. And given the fact that a root bridge has Designated Ports which are in a forwarding state, then logically an election might take place.

  • Upstream switch RSTP Topology changes and AP1210 APs

We have AP1210's trunked to 3550/3560 access switches which are inturn trunked to two wireless core 4006 switches.
RSPT is configured on all switches. When a topology change occurs, RPST is very fast in moving the root port (~1 sec) but the designated edge ports (trunk ports) go through the 30 sec 2 x FD STP cycle before going back to forwarding designated ports.
We do not having spanning tree running on the AP1210s, so no bpdus are sent from the AP and we can't use portfast on the access switch to go straight to forwarding.
A colleague felt there was a reason you don't turn on STP on the AP. We have 2 VLANs/Bridges on each AP.
We're looking to speed up spanning tree convergence. Failover testing shows that the 3550 access switch desginated port does not go into forwarding quickly and WL clients lose pings/streaming audio etc during the convergence delay.
    Any inputs welcomed.

  • STP Topology Changes

    All,
I'm experiencing some oddities with STP on my network. I run the sh spanning-tree detail | inc from|exec|changes on my STP Root Bridge and I'm seeing A LOT of topology changes on a couple of my VLAN's. Here is an example...
VLAN0160 is executing the rstp compatible Spanning Tree protocol
Number of topology changes 14411 last change occurred 00:11:38 ago
              from GigabitEthernet2/13
First, I want to make sure I'm interpreting this output correctly. The output is stating there was 14411 changes 11 minutes ago? Is this value reset after an interval of time? How often is this polled?
Second, the VLAN's that are seeing this kind of activity are geographically dispersed but connect to same VPLS, Metro-E WAN. Could that cause anything? I know this type of WAN is viewed as one broadcast domain but I have everything segemented real well and nothing "bleeds" over to another location.
Lastly, What would cause this amount of topology changes? What would be "normal" in a stable network? What would be the best way to approach this to find the root cause?
    Thanks!

This is telling you who caused it last and it g2/13 .  Whats on that port ?  If its just user on the port do you have portfast turned on ?  If it's not then that will cause a topology change everytime the user goes on and off the network.  In a normal stable network you should see very few . Make sure all the user ports  are configured correctly across your switches.

  • TS3276 I have installed OS X Mavericks on macbook pro, macbook air & iMac but I am having terrible trouble with apple Mail. I need to take all accounts online frequently OR worse I have to quit mail and restart computer. Is anyone else having problems?

I have installed OS X Mavericks on macbook pro, macbook air & iMac but I am having terrible trouble with apple Mail. I need to take all accounts online frequently OR worse I have to quit mail and restart computer. Is anyone else having problems?

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

  • My options and tools have changed.  Unable to extract and delete pages in my PDF document.

My options and tools have changed.  Unable to extract and delete pages in my PDF document.  How can I get them back?

Well could it be another Adobe I had before?  I bought software and in that under tools on the far right had all kinds of options.  Also under view and window.  Then I bought another adobe product to try and convert a PDF into a word doc and now under tools that is all it wants to do and my view and window options have changed.  Not to mention the new software i bought isn't converting it just spins.  So I am bummed that neither is working for me.  It is more important for me to be able to extract pages then it is to convert.  Which adobe product allows this?  Maybe I can unistall and reinstall the Adobe software I spent 300 dollars on vs the 19.99 product.

  • Change an image to 300ppi and reformat to 1024

    Hi.
I cannot seem to do this correctly.  I shoot with a Canon T3i and the images are 72ppi.  I am entering a photo contest and the rules say the following:
The images should be formatted of 1024 on the longest side at a resolution of 300 ppi.
I saw a video online on how to change it from 72 ppi to 300 ppi by unchecking resample image, changing it to 300 ppi and then recheck the resample box.  I think I have done this part correctly as there seems to be no loss of image quality.  The problem I am having is to then change the width (the longest side) to 1024 at that 300 ppi without losing image quality.  I have been using the resample box checked and then Bicubic sharpener.   My image is very pixalated.  I may be doing this all wrong, but just want to let you know I have tried to figure this out without having to ask.
Please, can someone give me STEP by STEP how to do this whole process, to do what the contest requirements are above and get that sized image at 300 ppi without losing image quality?  Please and thank you so much!
    At a loss.

Thank you so much, but I tried that.  They don't specify the height for the picture, so I don't know what height to use.
I clicked on the rect. marquee tool as you said, the toolbar gives me the following:
    MODE
    Normal
    Fixed Ratio
    Fixed Size
When I click on them and try to change the width to 1024 it automatically puts in 64 on the height which is long and narrow. So I guessed at 768 height.  The box won't adjust and is very, very small.   I want to maintain the photo ratio and just have the number 1024 as a guide.  Please help.

My Itunes account was hacked and 300$ stolen and I cannot get itunes to respond. Any advice?

The money was stolen off of gift cards stored on my itunes account, and I did close the card on the account. I have changed my infortiona security wide but kept the rest of the changes they made to my account as proof. It has indeed been 48 hours since I conta cted them, and still no response. Also on this forum others have reported the same thing happening. Very sad I cannot even call Itunes about this. Thanks for your response.
