Frequent SNR drops and high error rates

Heya all,
As of the past few days, I've been having issues with my BT Infinity 2 connection suffering from long periods where the SNR drops, and error rates increase. I've contacted support on the phone, but sadly unless I'm using a Home hub, they won't help me, and I don't have one to use. I've offered to provide them with any information they require by email, but they say it's not possible to send them anything. They've tried several line tests and they insist that everything is fine with the line, and that I must have faulty hardware on my end.
For a bit of history; I've had this connection since March 2012. When it was first set up, I was getting no interleaving down or up, and I was getting over the 40/10 I was quoted. A few months later, I was given an upgrade to 80/20. The interleaving remained at 0 both directions, and latency was around 12ms to bbc.co.uk (as an example). As time went on, errors began to show in my modem logs, the speed began to drop, interleaving kicked in, and the latency has increased. I called them about it originally, and an engineer came out. They replace the face plate, gave us a new modem, and issues an line reset. This solved the problem completely for a few months. Around 2 months later, the same things began to happen again. I called support again, but this time, I was outside of my contract period, so they effectively refused to help unless I was using their Home Hub thing, and blamed my equipment. Since this last call, things have steadilly got worse, until recently when the SNR drops began to occurr...
All I want is my connection how it was when I first changed to 80/20, with no interleaving. Nothing has changed in my flat since the connection was installed. There have been issues with street lighting and roadworks in the past, but I believe these were resolved. I suspect that there is a fault with either our line down to the distribution box downstairs (BT's responsibility) or the wire from there to the cabinet (Ashton-under-Lyne, Cabinet 6) (also BT's responsibility). I would ask for an engineer to come out, but I know they won't find a problem (even though there is clearly one there) and I'll get charged for a call-out, and still have my problem! What can I do to try and get it back to how it was?
Asn additional note, there's a neighbor of mine around the corner who's got the same product, going to the same cabinet, and they don't have any of these problems.
This is the current state of my connection as of 2014/07/17 09:47:35:

If there's any other information, at all, which will help diagnose my problem, please let me know and I'll do my best to provide it.
Please help!

Can you try the above mentioned program in order to monitor the errors on your line ? You should be able to tell as and when the errors start to increase dramatically which in tirn, can make it easier to narrow down any problems.....

  • Intermittent speed issues and high errors after ma...

I had BT broadband installed 3rd August and was only getting 3.5 - 4.5 mbps (stable and consistent) despite having been quoted 6 to 14 mbps when I ordered.
After the standard call center checks BT eventually agreed to send out an engineer (4 days ago) who replaced the master socket with a new style one and the speed reported by my HH3 went from 4.5 to 8.5mbps... all looked good however since then the actual download speed has varied from 1.5 to 8.5 mbps and the error counts seem very high.
Latency has also switched from interleaved to fast and now back to interleave.
Any advice on how to get this stable would be much appreciated - thanks in advance!

  • BT Infinity 2 and high ping rate

I am having a problem with my BT Infinity2.  I am getting high ping rates some as high as 181 ms.  I have download speeds of 15 meg and 8-9 meg upload.  This is through the router wired to my computer.  I was told that I should be able to get somewhere in the region of 77 meg.  This is nowhere near and needs to be sorted out.
It doesn't matter what time of day I do the speed test it is always the same.  If I try and play my Football Manager 2012 game online I can't as my connection just kicks me back off the steam server.  If I try and watch a programme on Iplayer or ITV player ther programmes are fuzzy, blocking and unwatchable, also with the buffering is beyond a joke.

micksea173 not good and you have my sympathy
Try rebooting both the hub and the modem. Run the BT Speedtester to get your IP Profiles and  http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ to get an accurate speed test. Pings are very dependant on the site you are measuring a ping of 181 for a server in LA could be quite good! If you know how also run a tracert to bbc.co.uk. Post agin with the results and somebody can make an educated guess as to where the problem lies.

  • Cannot play Adobe Access Protected Content in Chrome (version 30 and higher); Error 3321/3322?

    Symptom:
An end-user cannot play Adobe Access protected content.  The client application returns a persistent 3321 (Individualization Error) or 3322 (Device Binding Failure) error code.
    Root Cause in Chrome Browser:
Adobe Access DRM must create a unique machine identifier (I.e. "token") to identify the the device.  This token is provided to the Adobe Access license server during a license request to view DRM protected content.  If Chrome Browser disables the ability for Adobe Access DRM to create a unique machine identifier, playback of Protected Content will fail with a 3321 or 3322 error code.  By default, this setting is enabled and available to toggle in Chrome Browser version 30 and higher.  Unchecking this option will prevent Adobe Access DRM from properly functioning. A 3321 or 3322 error that persists after a call to resetDRMVouchers is an indicator that this setting may need to be changed.
    Resolution:
    In your Chrome settings:
    •             Click on "Show advanced settings…"
    •             In the subsequent "Privacy" section, click on "Content settings…"
    •             In the subsequent "Protected Content" section, make sure that the following box is checked "Allow identifiers for protected content (computer restart may be required)".
We are working with Google to allow better detection of this condition, so that the client will return a 3368 (User cancelled or user settings disallow operation) error code when the box is unchecked.

  • Apple Watch and High Heart rates

The Watch's heart rate sensor is generally receiving positive reviews. However, I haven't seen anyone test it at high heart rates which is a common fall down area of most optical sensors.
Now that the Watch is out there, I was wondering if any of you have worked out at say 150 - 180bpm and how the watch's on board sensor responded?

    Hi
Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone, keep them coming. I still have until May/June for my watch so it'd be nice to get a good idea. It's going to arrive after my next pay day so I was trying to gauge if I need a chest HRM. I'm not an athlete or anything but I'm about half way through losing a fair amount of weight so I need a fairly accurate reading.
I've seen the consumer reports report but that wasn't in depth enough for me.
I've seen that one of the things it can have trouble with is interval training but I think that's more of a software issue - if I understand it right, Apple have made it so that the watch takes a note of your heart rate every 5 seconds or so. I also imagine the watch's fitness app will be tweaked now it's out in the real world.
As I said, keep the answers coming!

  • Line dropping and high Noise margin follwing Excha...

    Hi guys.
Back again for my biannual problem solving session. So heres my story. Our internet went off last Thursday for 10 minutes or so followed by an email letting us know that our local exchange had been upgraded, then began the problems. Incidentally, inicially I wa over the moon, my speed had increased to a blistering 10.8 Mbps.
From then on, whenever we mad eor received a phone call our broadband would drop out. I made the usual call to India, mive the hub etc etc but to no avail. eventually I decided to buy and change the micro filters. This worked, great, but why did I have to do this? Why did my filters no longer work?
I had hoped that would be the end of it, still at regular intervals, the BB is dropping out and reconnecting, each time it reconnects, the HH2 is syncing at a lower speed and the Noise margin is increasing. Only slowly but it is very irritating. We have gone down from 10.8 to just over 9Mbps. Where will it end? Anyhoo, I have spoke to India again and they are looking into it.
Any ideas/comments? Here are my stats.

Just leave it alone, it will sort itself out after a few days, its best not to get the helpdesk involved, as there is nothing wrong with your connection, its just the normal period of settling in when the tline is upgraded.
Its best not to restart or disconnect it for at least 10 days, otherwise you will end up with a much slower speed.
ADSL2+ is uses more bandwidth, so its important to keep the distance from the point where your line comes in, to the home hub, as short as possible, and have a filter at the point it enters the house, so that the broadband signal does not go down the extension wiring.
The ideal solution is a filtered faceplate at the master socket, that will ensure that you get the fastest connection speed.

Some of the older microfilters are not as effective at stopping the higher frequency ADSL2+ signals from getting into your phone circuit, which is most likely why you were asked to change them.

  • Server connection: drops and disk errors

Currently, I'm the only workstation using a Mac Pro (the rest are G5s), and my connection to our art server (running Win 2003) constantly drops, whereas the G5s stay connected just fine. Also, today this same server started giving me code -41 disk error messages; I can't save or re-write anything onto the server, even though there's a good 20GB of storage available.

    John,
We lost the connection earlier this evening, and even though the lights were all still on on the Router, the only way to regain our connection seemed to be turning the router off and on (we did this at the plug, i'm not sure this is what we're meant to do!).
Are the events in my event log worrying at all? I'm scared by them!

I understand that there is always going to be some errors because of my high attenuation on the line but is this many a usual amount?
Also, my Error Seconds (Local/Remote). does the 8823 for local mean errors on my local network? And if so I assume this means that my problem is locally and not outside my home?
Thank you in advance for your help

Ok I just tried a new filter plugged directly into the Test Socket. Below is what it says now.
I also just did a quite line test. I can't hear any crackles or anything of that nature. Just a quite line.

  • Frequent speed drops and router resetting itself.

    Hello,
Over the past month I have been having two problems.
One of which is my broadband speed will randomly drop from 30mbps to as low as 2mbps, this problem will stay until I restart the hub and sometimes even that will not fix it.
The second problem is randomly throughout the day, usually around 4 times per day at random intervals, my hubs lights will all turn off except the power light which stays orange. Then it goes through the usual start up but takes around 5minutes to fully reconnect.
Obviously this is unacceptable, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    M. Obbard.

Do you have a separate Openreach modem? What homehub do you have?
Are you connected by wireless of Ethernet?

  • WPA2 Security and Recv Errors.

Copy of a post I posted a couple of hours ago in the Airport Extreme 802.11n forum. As the issue could be MBP related I thought I'd post here too. Any (relevant) suggestions most welcome. Thanks.
In the ongoing quest to try and find out as much as I can about what was causing my AEBS to crash I noticed while looking at the Network Utility Info tab (Utilities/Network Utility/Network Interface (en1) that there were a large number of recv errors and they were increasing as I watched. It was rather like watching a ticker.
I did a bit of research and noticed that some people related the issue to WPA so I did a test.
I stopped the AEBS. Network Utility Reported
    Sent Packets 5617335
    Send Errors 4
    Recv Packets 32254109
    Recv Errors 46323
    Collisions 0
I'd been watching the recv errors creep up.
I turned off security on the AEBS
    An hour later I had
    Sent Packets 5821527
    Send Errors 4
    Recv Packets 32860781
    Recv Errors 46323
    Collisions 0
So in an hour of hard use, no errors - they just stopped.
I then stopped the AEBS and turned WPA2 back on.
I got this about a minute or perhaps two after re-starting the router.
    Sent Packets 5823694
    Send Errors 4
    Recv Packets 32864168
    Recv Errors 46377
    Collisions 0
That was about 20 mins ago. Errors are now at 46728 sorry 46729, sorrry 46754, Sorry 46784
    You get the idea.
I wonder if anyone has any ideas? My concern is that it could be that the high error rate could be related to the AEBS crashes.
    Thanks for reading.
    Cheers.
    POST -http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1134458&tstart=0

    Thanks Ned.
I just tried on a new Core 2 2.4 which I happened to have lying around
Same thing. Errors when WPA 2 enabled, none when WPA 2 turned off. This is running n at 5ghz. Mind you, the errors on the new machine were in the hundreds and the errors on mine are in the thousands.
    At 10.18 I had 73820 errors
    At 10.44 I had 78662 errors
    At 10.55 I had 79263 errors - I turned off WPA2
    At 11.05 I have 79263 errors - ie none since I turned off WPA2
With the Santa rosa machine, I moved a 7gb file from my Airport Disk and got 300 errors with WPA2
Moved the same file again without WPA2 and got none.
I haven't tried 11g yet - only have so much time, but to be honest - and I understand you mean for diagnostic purposes - if they stop at 11g it doesn't help much as I need 11n or I would have stuck with the 54g Belkin I bought 3 years ago for $10. I'll try it a little later though out of deference.
If you get a chance, if you could take a look at your recv errors (assuming you use WPA2) I'd be very grateful.
    Cheers.

  • Gx620 HDMI higher refresh rates

    Hello,
I've bought a Samsung SyncMaster 2233rz to get a lower inputlag and higher refresh rates. GeForce 9600m GT doesn't have a DVI-D port, thus I'm using the HDMI port with a DVI-D adapter as the monitor only has a DVI-D port. I've read you couldn't get a higher than 60hz signal from the graphics card through HDMI for some reason (..it being a mobile card). I'd imagine it has something to do with the bandwidth, but so far I've managed to get atleast 1680x1050 @ 75hz. It stutters sometimes, but quite rarely.
The refresh rate options are very limited as I use Windows 7, which reads the EDID-information from the display. Nvidia control panel registers the connectors as HDMI - HDTV. I've tried editing the EDID-informations and use powerstrip and such programs to get a higher refresh rate, but so far I'm stuck at 75hz. I wouldn't mind lowering the resolution to get atleast 100hz refresh rate, but so far I've had no luck with it. Have any of you managed to get a 100hz refresh rate from gx620 (through the vga-port perhaps)?

Refresh rate is actually a term for analog CRT monitors, not digital monitors.
    Hello,
I know how it works on LCD's. That wasn't the question, thanks though.

EDIT: I posted about the issue in Nvidias forum, here's the url incase it gets answers

  • MARS - inbound packet error rate high for unrouted VLAN

After upgrade to 4.2.2, we are getting lots of inbound packet error rate high for some unrouted vlan in Cisco 6509. I did some sniff and find that MARS try to get ifInErrors of those unrouted vlan. But the unrouted vlan only support ifOutUcastPkts and ifInUcastPkts.
I just wondering is there some bug in the MARS or there are some kind of database corruption.

Any reason you wouldn't just create a drop rule or modify the inspection rule that is firing?
btw, have a look here to make sure it isn't the same issue:

  • Too High Bit rate error no matter how much reduce it

After Exporting an HDV 1080i 16:9 3 sequences from FCP via
compressor at Best SD DVD 90 minutes, 16:9, and burning two DVD-Rs that work, now DVDSP keeps giving me Video Bit Rate too high error and stops building shortly after starts. And no matter how much I lower bit rate won't do it! HELP

I think - and see if you agree - that I exported using a compressor bit rate setting of 6.0 and max of 7.5 on the first 56 min sucessful sequence build/burn, and then thought I could go higher on the second export so goosed the max bit rate to 9.0 since there were occassional big bits of motion. So now on the other two sequences DVD SP won't adjust that previous compression rate, and instead I will have to sacrifice the audio quality (use Dolby only)
to get it to build. I certainly DON't want to wait 26 to 28 hours again for each sequence to export!! Does that sound right?
