  • Instalation and upgrade questions.

My daughter has photoshop cs4 via one of the suites (design premium).
It was originally installed on her old computer as a 32 bit version.
She now has a 64 bit machine. I drive imaged the old drive to the new machine and did all the hardware drivers, and it is working perfectly.
    It is vista home premium.
How can she upgrade to the 64 bit version of photoshop without breaking her installation or loosing any of her work?
If I upgrade her OS to windows 7 Pro (x64), will that be a problem?
I have downloaded the master suite trial instalation files onto my drive. My goal is to create an installation dvd set and use it to install trial versions of the various products on a couple of different machines. The entire folder structure is over 8 gig, So i need two DVDs.
How do i split the resulting un compressed master suite installation folders to two dvds so that it functions as an install dvd?
If my son ends up buying just one product (say dreamweaver), Can he unlock the copy of dreamweaver that was installed via the master suite install dvd? or does he have to uninstall the master suite copy and re-install the dreamweaver cs4 download?
If the trial expires, can he unlock it at some point later if he purchases a key?
Does each product within the master suite have its own trial expiration date based on when that particular product was installed? or once you install one product from the master suite install dvd, the date is set for all products?
    Thanks
    Jerry C

How can she upgrade to the 64 bit version of photoshop without breaking her installation or loosing any of her work?
You can't. This can only be done wit ha proper install after the old stuff has been uninstalled. You won't lose any work, the installers only care for their own files, not user-generated data.
If I upgrade her OS to windows 7 Pro (x64), will that be a problem?
Just to be on the safe side, always deactivate, then re-activate after the update.
How do i split the resulting un compressed master suite installation folders to two dvds so that it functions as an install dvd?
You cannot. Installer spanning only works if you downloaded or bought the proper DVD version that is already pre-configured into two separate packages. Use an external hard drive or memory stick to transport the files instead.
Can he unlock the copy of dreamweaver that was installed via the master suite install dvd?
No. Suites ands standalone products have completely different serials and since the DW will be tied to the suite install, a standalone serial won't work.
If the trial expires, can he unlock it at some point later if he purchases a key?
    Yes, that's the plan.
Does each product within the master suite have its own trial expiration date based on when that particular product was installed?
No, the suite is timebombed as a whole, which again relates to how it is supposed to handle serialization with only one number.

  • Preparing for Snow Leopard - fresh install or upgrade?

I have two Mac's at home currently running 10.5.8 that I will be upgrading to Snow Leopard. My question is, do I need to do a fresh install or upgrade over the existing OS and is there a preferred approach?
Mac 1: Macbook Pro (late 2007)
    Key Applications in use:
    - VM Ware Fusion
    - Bootcamp (Vista)
    - Logic Express 8
    - MS Office 2008
    Mac 2: Mac Mini (2009)
    Key applications in use:
    - Plex
    - MacTheRipper
    Thanks in advance!

Since no one yet has SL to determine what options are available you will have to wait until Friday.
But in the most general terms a fresh install is always preferable. You can prepare by doing the following:
    1. Repair your hard drive and permissions.
    2. Make and test a bootable clone to another internal or external drive.
Because you have two Macs you will need to purchase the Family Pack. You cannot install a single-user license on more than one CPU at a time.

  • Fresh install and Im missing the /etc/ folder

    Basically my situation is simple.
I have just done a fresh install and i am missing the /etc/ folder completely. this is not good as need to alter some things in one of the boot files.
I have tried 2 clean installs and had the problem both times.
Has anyone else had this problem? Or know how to rectify it?
    Thanks in advance!

Photoshop CC 2014 (fresh installed and updated) does not recognize my graphic processor (NVIDIA GTX 840) but instead only a Intel HD 4600. How do I ensure that PS is using the full phardware power of my notebook. My OS is WIN 8.1 Thanks for your help, Meik

In the end it was the NVIDIA software - excluding PS as application for support by high performance graphic processor to save energy - activated NVIDIA card use for PS & LR all fine now.

  • Over the years I have installed and upgraded Photoshop and Lightroom

Over the years I have installed and upgraded Photoshop and Lightroom, but unfortunately my hard drive crashed and I was wondering how I could reinstall them without the apps?

Are you saying you visited the My Account link at Adobe.com, per Curt's suggestion, and they don't have your serial number info on file, and you don't have your original media or serial number info?
If that's truly the case, get out your credit card because you're basically out of luck.  It's really no one's responsibility but yours to manage your purchase information.
If your software loss was substantial, monetarily, you might call your insurance company.  I have no idea whether they pay under those kinds of circumstances, but it's worth a check.  But most folks have pretty high deductables on their homeowners' policies.
If you DO have your serial number, there are ways to get most older versions of Adobe Creative Suite software from Adobe's web site.

  • Fresh Install or Upgrade

    I currently have Windows 2003, IIS6 and CF7 and CF8
successfully running side by side on my development server. CF7 is
loaded in stand alone mode while CF8 is loaded in multi-server
mode. I have 15 CF8 instances running on that server in a
pre-development environment. Next week I will be switching over our
Development side to CF8 and just connecting it to one of the
instances on that server. As it stands right now, we are not
thinking of running multiple instances in our test and production
environments but I was thinking of installing the multiple server
configuration and with just 1 instance just in case someone changes
their mind down the road.. So,
My question is this: What is the best approach to installing
CF8 in those environments, just upgrading or fresh install? Does an
upgrade remove the previous version? If not, do I have to do a
manual uninstall? I have always done fresh installs on major
version changes as I have not wanted any previous version file
hanging around to cause problems. But upgrading seems the painless
way to go especially when it just ports all of your settings,
datasources and k2 verity collections over.
    What is the best practice?

    hi
I recently purchased the latest mountain Lion.
i was wondering what was the best thing to do.
    A complete fresh install
or just upgrading from the previous OSX Lion.
    I have 3 macs :
    - iMac 27" (2009)
    - Mac Mini (2010)
    - MacBook Pro 13" (2011)
The 3 of them came with with Snow Leopard.
And I did an upgrade to Lion, shortly after it was relased.
    If we upgrade :
    - does leave unnecessary files
    - is there a difference in speed and hard-disk space
or does it manage it all very well
    Thanks for the info
maybe some links would be welcome that give an in-depth explanation about that
There is some house-keeping that you need to do before/after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
For installed, third-party applications (and device drivers where indicated), does the vendor offer latest OS X Mountain Lion support. Drivers that worked in Snow Leopard or Lion, may not work well in Mountain Lion without upgrades.
You may have to re-install some third-party applications that have system dependencies that have changed in Mountain Lion.
You may have to update your Printer preferences if printers do not work after the upgrade.
You should count on a minimum of 4GB of memory (8GB is better) in each Mac.
Although the upgrade process will not touch /Users, it is sound due diligence to backup user data on all these Macs beforehand.
Upgrading is simpler, multiple Mountain Lion downloads not withstanding. If these Macs have been through prior OS X updates, they may not operate as fast as a full, clean install would deliver. If you want to do a full, clean install, download the free Lion Diskmaker. It will automatically build a bootable, USB installer for Mountain Lion from your first ML purchase and download. I used it to make a clean install on my SSD. Works perfectly.

  • Fresh install and update patch problems 119060-17 , 122213-10 , 122912-02

Just yesterday, i installed a fresh Solaris 10 x86 onto some pc hardware. After getting solaris installed and issues with my network card, i downloaded and installed the free version of the update manager 1.0.x. Next, i proceeded to update all the general patches for the solaris 10 system. I started with the command 'pprosvc -i' from a terminal. It then proceeded to download and validate a bunch of patches successfully until it hit the following 3 patches:
    119060-17 ---- X11 6.6.2_x86: Xsun patch
    122213-10 ---- GNOME 2.6.0_x86: GNOME Desktop Patch
    122912-02 ---- SunOS 5.10_x86: Apache 1.3 Patch
All 3 failed some kind of validation and then crashed the pprosvc program, at which point it exited with the following error:
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    119060-17 cannot be validated
    122912-02 cannot be validated
Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digital signature(s).
I also tried to use the GUI Update Manager to update, hoping the problem was isolated to pprosvc, but that problem was also in the GUI with a similar error message:
Error occurred...The detailed error message is: Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digitial signature(s)
Anyone know why Sun's update patch process is so troublesome?
    Getting Tired of Solaris Updates...
I should mention that this is the free solaris 10 x86 install and i don't have a service contract with Sun. If this problem persists, i don't think i'll get one, as i see only further problems after buying one.
    tired and confused

    Hi,
    There is an issue with this that is currently being investigated. There is another thread that may shed some light on what is happening here;
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=316
Thread title is : Sun UC, Digitally Signed Patches Using New Verisign Certificates
In the short-term please ensure that the patch mentioned in it is installed.
To quote part of mentioned thread above:
"Once the Sun Update Connection client software is upgraded with patch 121118-06 (SPARC) or 121119-06 (x86/x64) or later revisions normal behavior will resume. "
    If this fails to resolve your problem, would you be kind enough to post the output of the following command for analysis please;
    # showrev -p | egrep -e '121454|121119|120336|121082|121564|122232|119789'

  • Fresh install and preserve boot camp drive?

I have an older 2007 MacPro (2 dual core CPUs @ 3Ghz) that has the following...
    MacPro Internals:
    Mac HD drive = 500GB (Bay 1)
    Mac RAID drive = 500GB (Bay 2) + 500GB (Bay 3)
Windows drive = 320GB (Bay 4) - boot camp drive with Vista 64
    ATI 3870 HD Video
    BlackMagic Designs Intensity Pro
    2nd Firewire card
    External devices:
    Motu Ultralite FW Audio interface
    Mackie Control Surface
    M-Audio AXIOM 25 MIDI keyboard
    LG Blu-Ray eSATA Burner
    30" Mac HD monitor
    24" Dell Monitor
    42" HD TV
    15" SD TV
    Oki C5800L color laser printer
    Software on my MacPro:
    iWorks and iLife 09
    Final Cut Studio 3
    Logic Pro 9
    Adobe CS4 Extended
    FX Factory
    Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD
    QuickTime Pro (purchased version)
I'd like to do a clean install of SL. The reason I want to do a fresh install is that when I went from Tiger to Leopard (2007 MacPro) vs. Leopard pre-installed new (on my 2008 iMac), there are indeed some difference -- specifically different Leopard driver support that appeared on a fresh install iMac, but not when "upgrading" on my MacPro (printer drivers for example).
My hunch is that SL will detect existing drivers and NOT upgrade them to the SL version -- which may or may not be a good thing especially if the SL version drivers are 64bit while my L version drivers are 32bit. So the end result with going the "upgrade" route will be a mixed bag of 32bit and 64bit drivers. I'm pretty sure this is NOT gonna be a good situation if I ran the "upgrade" rather than a fresh install.
However, it's CRITICAL that I not lose my Windows Drive (Boot camp) with Vista 64 on it. This is a separate physical drive (Bay 4) but if I do a fresh install of SL, will the installer recognize I have a Boot camp drive and will it still allow dual boot using option key at startup (showing my the Mac or Windows drive to boot to)?
    Rob.

    Hi Rob,
Sorry been out of the country
Yes you are correct the EFI Looks after the booting of OS's from any hard drive.
if you hold down the alt key while booting it will give you a list of drives it thinks it can boot from.
In theory any windows volume with XP SP2 or newer should boot (+though if not installed on the same hardware originally is will complain about divers & if more than 15% of the hardware has change windows sometimes needs to be reactivated+)
I run multiple systems at my office using the same multi hard drive setup you have and have never had any problems changing / updating the Mac HD while leaving the Windows HD fully intact.

  • Help with Adobe Photoshop 5.0 install and upgrade to 7.0

    hello
I have a photoshop 5.0 (purchased to work with win xp) which i have not installed and used for a long time
I also have a Photoshop 7.0 win upgrade
    My question is this:
I want to install my adobe photoshop 5.0 on a windows 7 machine,
i want to than upgrade to photo shop 7.0
    for photoshop 5.0,
the cd runs and i get the SETUP MENU, WHERE I AM OFFERED OPTIONS TO INSTALL ADOBE PHOTOSHOP 5.0 AND ADOBE ACROBAT READER V3.01 ETC....
when i click on the install adobe photoshop 5.0 icon, it doesn't seem to do anything/
i have also tried to see if anything is happening in task manager - task says running - but nothing seems to be happening
    any ideas why?
    Thank you for your help.

Are you trying to install 5.0 just so you can install the upgrade to 7.0?
If that's the case, you need not install 5.0.  Just install 7.0 and when it asks you about what you're upgrading from, insert the disc for 5.0 per its instructions.
And, you're kind of living in the past...   Even Photoshop 7.0 has very limited capabilities compared to what's shipping today (which is 5 full version releases newer).
It might be about time to buy a modern version of Photoshop.

  • How to get iPhoto back on a fresh install (not upgrade) of Mavericks?

I have a mid 2010 white unibody Macbook which came with Snow Leopard pre-installed and hence iPhoto. I recently upgraded to an SSD with a fresh install of Mavericks which does not come with iPhoto. As I originally had iPhoto, can I get a (free) copy of it for Mabericks?

Great.  If Time Machine, then enter Time Machine and Restore iPhoto, otherwise, copy Applications/iPhoto to your Mac

  • Fresh install and save time machine files

Is it possible to do a fresh install of the os (i have a new SSD on the way) and get the OS to somehow recognize the time machine files - ie. not delete them and start anew?
I have 2TB drive of backups for the last 5 months.
I'm thinking the best way would be to just clone the last 2 months sans OS files (or whatever fits) to another drive (via my eSata drive dock).
    Any thoughts?

If you're going to install OSX on the SSD, and leave everything on the internal HD, Time Machine will just back up the SSD, and continue to do "incremental" backups of both the SSD and the internal HD.
But if you also move your data to the SSD, TM will back it up completely, since it's a different drive.
If there isn't enough space on your TM drive, it will start deleting old backups trying to make room; if it gets to the last remaining one and still hasn't enough room, it will fail (leaving the last backup).
You can delete all backups of things from the internal HD, if you want, per #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • Fresh Install of Lion - Questions

I plan to format my MBP and install Slow Leopord from the disk, then install Lion.  I want to start over fresh in order to eliminate some annoying problems I've been having.  However, before doing this I have a few questions I hope some of you can help with.
    1.  iPhone - how do I back up all my iphone content so when I connect it to iTunes on the fresh Lion install that it won't want to erase everything on my iPhone.  I want to make sure that when I connect the first time it won't do the whole "You've never connected to this computer before...."  Is there a way to back up my iphone content on bot the iPhone and iTunes and somehow put it on the fresh installed computer?  (I sure hope that makes sense).
    2.  iTunes - Can I back up my iTunes media and import it back into the fresh install of itunes?  If so, how?
    Much Thanks for any help.

    Hi PsychTech,
Sounds like you have an Xserve Cluster Node which doesn't come with a CD/DVD drive. How many drive bays does it have?
If it is then you'd be stuck to running 10.5 on it. Mountain Lion will only install on the 2009 Xserve which does have a DVD drive in the top right corner.
To be able to get into the servers you could do the following.. Find a copy of Tiger or Leopard on CD/DVD.. Either create a bootable image of it and start from a USB/Firewire Hard disk. When you boot up DO NOT go to install OS X but instead go to the Utilities menu and you'll find an option to reset the password which will at least get you in. You can do this with the client version or server version of OS X.
    Hope that helps
