Fresh Install for Mail, iCal and MobileMe

After several rounds with MobileMe support with what I thought were iCal syncing issues, I think I want to do a fresh install for all things Mail, iCal, and MobileMe (sync services).
Syncing stopped working on iPhone and turns out I may have had a corrupt Calendar file, which may have been caused by my tinkering with Mail when I had some issues...etc etc. Anyway, suggestions for what to do to start all over?

Read the Apple document Mac OS X v10.5, v10.6: Resetting the SyncServices folder and see if that helps.
Plus to reset any program in OS X just go to the folder /Users/YourUserAccount/Library/Preferences/ and find the preferences for the program you want to reset to default and throw that preferences file away. This will reset a program in OS X on your account back to default (in most cases).

  • Simple question; Mac Server Setup for Mail, iCal and Address Book Services.

    Hi Guys;
I'm new to the Mac Server world and need a few questions answered.
I have purchased a new Mac mini Server for hosting File, Web, Mail, iCal and Address Book Services.
I’m comfortable setting up File and Web Services however I’m a bit uneasy setting up Mail, iCal and Address Book services to be access locally and remotely(via the internet).
    My current setup is;
Internet connection (Dynamic IP) -> Router -> Mac mini Server.
I have purchased a domain name (Thornton-net.com) from DynDns.com + a custom DNS service as I can setup my router to update my domain’s IP address automatically.
I can access File and Web Services remotely (thortnon-net.com) perfectly without any issues via the Port Forwarding feature of the Router.
If I setup Mail, iCal and Address Book Services -> will Mail, iCal and Address Book clients be able to access these services hosted by the server via Thornton-net.com?

    Welcome to the forums.
For mail services (and specifically for your outbound mail to be accepted by other mail servers) your mail server needs to have a static IP address and matching forward and reverse and MX records, or a tunnel to a static IP (with matching DNS), or you need another mail server where you have an authorized relay. Without that, your mail will be considered a spam engine, and dropped.
Additionally, your particular tier of service with your ISP (with a static IP) will generally allow server-oriented access and server-oriented network traffic, where a residential or other tier of service (with a dynamic IP addresses) can be firewalled.
The ISP controls the "high ground" of the network connections here, so you pretty much get to play by their rules and requirements. If they don't offer static IP, then (presuming their T&Cs permit it) you get to tunnel (via IPv6, for instance) to a tunnel broker, and receive your network traffic via that (and with matching DNS) point of presence. That could well be a tunnel for your mail at whichever your DNS provider is here, because you'll have issues with your dynamic address. (You get to sort out if they offer that.)
Far and away the easiest approach (if you want to host this stuff yourself) is to work with the ISP. They're inherently involved in your network, and they and they alone have full control over your reverse DNS configuration.

  • MacBook Pro 2011- Allowed updates to install for iTunes software and Microsoft office (I think).  After rebooting, computer wouldn't progress past grey apple screen with loading circle.

I have a MacBook Pro 2011.  I allowed updates to install for iTunes software and Microsoft office (I think).  After rebooting, computer wouldn't progress past grey apple screen with loading circle.  No progression bar ever appeared.  It just sits and spins.  I tried rebooting with Command + Option + R + P and hearing the chime twice....this did not work.
I also tried Command +Option+R which took me to internet recovery.  From there, I chose reinstall Mac OS X Lion 10.7 but it says my hard drive is locked so I wasnt able to select it.  What do I do???? Help!  I don't want to lose my files and it doesnt appear that I've used Time Machine Back Up.

I you upgraded to OS X 10.8, then use RecoveryHD by holding Command R at boot time (no option) and reinstall OS X over itself that way so your installing  Mountain Lion.
Also Disk Uility can be used to Repair the Macintosh HD parttion.
Also you can use that RecoveryHD to format and install OS X onto a external drive, then option/alt key boot from it and access your files on the non-booting internal drive before erasing, reformatting and reinstalling OS X fresh.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive

  • Fiddling with Syncing Resulted in Mail, iCal, and Quicksilver all freezing

    Hello,
I've been fiddling around with syncing services for quite some time. Today, though, I think I did something fundamentally problematic, because Mail, iCal, and Quicksilver will all simultaneously freeze and become non-responsive. Address Book freezes as well. I think Mail, though, is the application that freezes the most.
Is there a way to permanently fix this?
Possible culprits, though there may be others:
    Plaxo (though I doubt it)
    Mail Act-On
GCALDaemon (very possible because I stopped the terminal manipulations half-way through, realizing that it wouldn't work on Leoopard, which I'm getting in less than three weeks. Deleted all the files that showed up in Spotlight as related to GCALDaemon)
    Thank you!

  • How are the .7z files used and installed for photoshop elements and premier elements?

How are the .7z files used and installed for photoshop elements and premier elements?

    Hi,
You can try to extract them to a folder and then try to install using the setup file.
Or you can try to download the .exe file ( Small File ) for the software you have and then run the .exe file and it will start the installation. Both .exe and .7z file for the application should be in same location.
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 9, 8, 7
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 11, 10
    Download Premiere Elements products | 11, 10
Download Premiere Elements products | 9
*** You can either download the .exe file from the above download links or you can also download both .exe (File 2 of 2) and .7z (File 1 of 2) from the above links.

  • Fresh Install: Gnome Shell segfault and bgrt invalid status (Nvidia)

Hi everyone! I have Arch freshly installed, and after some modprobing last night I was finally able to get the Arch repository Nvidia drivers working. That being said, I am still getting a "bgrt invalid status" message on boot up (and, for what it is worth I do not have an Arch splash screen). I have googled the issue which took me to a thread here on the Arch forums, but that was dealing with the Noveau driver and not Nvidia.
Below is my entire dmesg output, and would appreciate if someone might help me look through it and diagnose the Gnome segfault and any other issues that may be present. I am also looking for some advice as to the proprietary Nvidia drivers. I have a GTX 980, and while currently I don't need any advanced rendering, here when an upcoming game gets released on Steam, I very well may need that.

Hey, I ran into a similar error (not bgrt invalid status, but a gnome shell segfault) after updating recently and I'm using the proprietary drivers. I think I may have had multiple issues. I'm not sure if any of this advice will prove useful, but some combination of these worked for me:
    * Stop gdm with systemctl (use ctrl alt f2 or another tty), uncomment WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm/custom.conf and try restarting gdm
    * If that doesn't work, disable gdm and install another login manager (I used sddm)
    * If that still doesn't work and you have the infinality font packages for freetype, fontconfig, and cairo, replace them with the default packages and try starting your login manager again

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail, iCal and Address Book

    Hi
I am currently trying to figure out a smart/safe way to move from Entourage to Apple Mail.
    iCal
I successfully imported all my Entourage Calendar items into iCal. This created a "folder" under the "Home" and "Work" folders already in iCal called "Entourage".
However, I would imagine that if I delete anything in Entourage's Calendar, this will also be deleted in the iCal "Entourage" folder.
    *_iCal question_*
How can I move all of the items in iCal, so that they remain there permanently, even if I delete Entourage and its content?
    *_Address Book_*
All address book items in Entourage were synched with Address Book.
    *_Address Book question_*
If I unselect the option to synch Entourage with Address Book, will everything remain in Address Book, or will they be deleted, when I trash the data in Entourage?
    Mail
I have no idea how to import my email accounts and folders (I only have 3 emails in my Inbox - the rest is stored in folders located under the Inbox) currently located in Entourage into Mail.
    *_Mail question_*
Any clues as to how to do that?
Many thanks for your thoughts and responses.
    Dominique =)
PS: sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I was not sure where I could put it.

sorry - wrong place to ask.

    =================================
    A couple of important points.
First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is to receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
Additional notes on the listener: One listener is capable of listening on multiple ports. But please notice that it is the listener using these ports, not the database instance. You can't bind a specific listener port to a specific db instance. Similarly, one listener is capable of listnening on multiple IP addresses (in the case of a server with multiple NICs) But just like the port, you can't bind a specific ip address to a specific db instance.
Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
    larry =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
)Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    What can go wrong?
First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"
Third: If the client is on the same machine as the db instance, it is possible to connect without referencing tnsnames and without going through the listener.
Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tigertns will attempt to establish an IPC connection to the db instance. How does it know the name of the instance? It uses the current value of the enviornment variable ORACLE_SID. So...
    $> export ORACLE_SID=fred
$> sqlplus scott/tigerIt will attempt to connect to the instance known as "fred". If there is no such instance, it will, of course, fail. Also, if there is no value set for ORACLE_SID, the connect will fail.
check executing instances to get the SID

    ERROR:
ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specifiedOk, that is how we get from the client connection request to the listener. What about the listener's part of all this?
The listener is very simple. It's job is to listen for connection requests and make the connection (server process) between the client and the database instance. Once that connection is made, the listener is out of the picture. If you were to kill the listener, all existing connections would continue. The listener is configured with the listener.ora file, but if that file doesn't exist, the listener is quite capable of starting up with all default values. One common mistake with the listner configuration is to specify "HOST=localhost" or "HOST=127.0.01". This is a NONROUTABLE ip address. LOCALHOST and ip address 127.0.0.1 always mean "this machine on which I am sitting". So, all computers are known as "localhost" or "127.0.0.1". If you specify this address, the listener will only be capable of receiving requests from the machine on which it is running. If you specified that address in your tnsnames file - on a remote client machine - the request would be routed to the machine on which the requesting client resides. Probably not what you want.

  • Push for both Exchange and MobileMe accounts

I have 2 accounts set up on my iPhone 3G:
    1. MobileMe
    2. Exchange via VPN
Exchange is my main account that is syncing mail/calendar/accounts
MobileMe is syncing only mail and bookmarks
When I got the iPhone i had the impression that push for both accounts worked perfectly.
But yesterday I noticed that mail does not arrive to either of them until I actually open Mail app on the iPhone and it starts checking it manually.
I checked push settings on the iPhone.
Out of 3 options for Push under Advanced Tab in the Push settings for Exchange server I have Push selected.
MobileMe tab in Advanced Tab in Push settings has only Fetch and Manually options (no Push option there). So I have Fetch selected.
    General Push setting is on.
My default account is MobileMe (in Mail settings)
Any ideas why Push is not working? I would think it could be Apple's problem but my Exchange push is not working either.

I have the same set up as you and i am getting both accounts mail almost instantly after i send a test message to each of them...Although i'm not using a VPN -- my Exchange supports direct connection via the ActiveSync connection.
Mobile me was a bit sketchy at times, but over the last few days it's been great -- it good to see Apple worked things out.
As for the Exchange Push mail:
There is a small tweak you may need to do while at work and on an internal wi-fi network to get your Exchange mail faster:
    This worked for me....

  • Did a fresh install of Windows Vista and Premiere CS5 and now Premiere is buggy!

Hi everyone. I was using Premiere Pro CS5 on my quad core system editing AVCHD clips just fine and then I had to do a fresh install of Windows Vista Home Premium. I then did a fresh install of Premiere Pro CS5 on a separate hard drive and opened up one of my AVCHD projects. Now, for some reason, the same AVCHD projects that played fine before are now jittery and also show blocky artifacts. The jitter seems to be a constant jitter every second and the blocky artifacts seem to happen mostly when the subject in the clip is moving. I know the problem isn't in the original clip from my GH-1 camera because if I play the original clip that is on my hard drive, it plays just fine so, it has to be Premiere CS5 that is causing the clips to play all jerky on the timeline. Can someone please help me solve this problem? One more thing, when I reinstalled Premiere CS5, I installed the latest update from Adobe. I didn't have that update installed before when the clips played fine. Could that update be the culprit? Thanks.
My clips were recorded using a Panasonic GH1 HDSLR camera and are 1080/24p (progressive).
